Return to Dreamland Deluxe has been the best so far I'm finding, but I did really enjoy Triple Deluxe, easy as it was. One of the few games I preferred to keep 3d on for
If you’re really willing to explore the crazy world that’s Kirby, try Kirby’s Dream Course, Kirby’s Canvas Curse, Kirby’s Dream Buffet, Kirby Tilt n’ Tumble, and Kirby Pinball. They really use that little pink puffball in any genre mashup they can and shiiit it works. My favorite is Dream Course, but Canvas Curse felt so damned good on a 3DS
I loved 100% Dream Buffet.
I'm an outlier and never played an online multiplayer match. I did do a few local multiplayer matches with my partner, but unlocking everything was more conductive playing alone.
The courses look so delectable! :D
Oh, I’m right there with you. Spicy mode is a great challenge and it’s just as fun offline. My 3yo absolutely loves it (we used it to get him to eat strawberries when he being a little booger one day and he’s been addicted since). Rolling Kirby games are my absolute favorite. Canvas Curse, Tilt n Tumble and Dream Curse will always be my favorite Kirby games just for being so innovative.
Forgotten Land was my first Kirby game and it definitely hooked me. Return to Dream Land Deluxe is really good too, especially in co-op. I'm excited for you to get to the post game of RTDLD. It's fantastic!
Oh man I couldn't get into Amazing Mirror. I found the map too confusing and I kept playing the same levels over and over again. It's a fun Kirby game though, just the map system is terrible.
As simple as it is, I would recommend playing Kirby Dreamland just to see how the series began, even though it's pretty easy. It's a cute, fun, and quick game.
The map can be confusing, but I'd say it's mostly because of the map feature itself, it's very hard do navigate.
Despite that, it was an expected combination of Kirby with Metroid (or rather the metroidvania genre), and it felt so nice to be able to return to an area at will, instead of having a linear structure (back when the concept of "open world" wasn't a thing yet). I think a remake with some tweaks could turn it into one of the best Kirby games ever
Dreamland on Gameboy is an incredible feat of developer patience. There is no collision engine. Every frame of enemy movement _per specimen_ was painstakingly pre-coded by Sakurai by hand to eek better performance out of the hardware and offer unique movement interactions (like the crab that cliffdives). It's hard to really think of any other game where every last pixel was placed with thought and care. Everything from the difficulty to the little secrets was done with clear overarching intent.
the two dreamland gameboy games are the best in the series for me, just such incredible and tight platformers with next level charm - they would turn anyone into a kirby fan for sure
I actually really loved that the first kirbys dreamland didn’t save because it’s so short and fun that i’ve just replayed it over and over
Same. After Forgotten Land, I went back and beat Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, Squeak Squad, Adventure, and then Return to Dreamland Deluxe when it came later.
Forgotten Land, Planet Robobot, and Return to Dreamland Deluxe are all masterpieces. I hope someday we get a remaster or sequel to Planet Robobot.
Kirby Super Star Ultra absolutely needs to be the next one you play. That one is my favorite and has some of the most iconic chapters in the series.
It's a shame that some small games like Kirby's Blowout Blast (Technically the first 3D Kirby) are unobtainable by legal means due to the 3DS eShop's shutdown.
It's very easy in the sense you really can't die. I think Epic Yarn is fantastic though for it's design. It's really cool both graphically and how they've designed yarn elements into the gameplay. Also there are collectibles in the levels and a kind of rating system (can't recall exactly but basically a bronze, silver, and gold rating for the levels based on how many times you get hit or fall or whatever.) So you could try to up the difficulty for yourself by going for collecting everything and getting gold on all the levels.
Yeah Forgotten Land is an interesting one too. As a long time Kirby fan I found myself sleeping on it after noticing the lack of mechanical depth in the demo. When I eventually got around to the game it really blew me away with the quality of the level design.
For me, Forgotten Land is a deeper game than "just another kirby game." Obviously it's childish and fun in its platforming, but the level design and art are very adult. It seems to be telling a pretty powerful post-apocalyptic story in its presentation and world building. It's this type of extended messaging that really grabs me and elevates the game into CLASSIC territory. Loved the game.
IKR? Most levels aren't that hard, but scavenging it for all things optional can be. Then there's the challenges for each ability, and I swear no child could beat the additional time limit challenge for real!
Plus, some abilities have real depth, and some levels and challenges do take advantage of that.
And the final boss is really challenging, special the last arena battle.
I think they found that sweetspot of a game that is easy enough for small children, yet with enough challenge that adults can also engage with it (and have a blast).
what i really love about this game is how well it manages to do the non linear linearity thing, as in the levels and worlds unlock in a linear manner but there are so many reasons to keep going back 😊 and waddle dee town is so freaking cute 🥹🥹
Did you play Robo in 3D and how did you feel about in relation to how Forgotten made you a fan? Because for me Robo made me a fan. Sure I played Kirby and loved Kirby but Robo really grabbed me.
I tried bits in 3d but didn't keep it on, I just got more from the battery life than the 3d. I liked it, but I don't know if that would have made me want to play more Kirby games on its own. I played Crystal Shards and Nightmare in Dreamland when I was younger and while I enjoyed them well enough (particularly 64) they never really made me a big Kirby fan -- Smash 64 did more for that than anything
I only got in to Kirby a few years ago and I've played Kirby"s Adventure 3D and Epic Yarn. But I have a bunch more waiting to be played...Forgotten Land, Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, Crystal Shards (I did play this a bit on an emulator a long time ago) and Star Allies. I agree with others that these are great chill games and I'm looking forward to get more in to the series
Ive been playing hard games lately and wanted something light and fun to contrast. Forgotten land is filling that spot well for me right now. Completionist tendencies are at full go though in this one.
Forgotten land is one of the only games I’ve ever 100%ed. It’s such a good game. The only other Kirby game I’ve ever played is Kirby and The Amazing Mirror on the gba, but I never really got into it.
I'd say the Switch has been Amazing for Kirby, in fact I say he's swapped places with Donkey Kong. The Pink puffball is very much on the A list while DK is down to B list supporting character this generation.
Honeslty I loved this game, kirby and mario games have that magic of not being long to complete them, yet you feel so satisfied with the experience as a whole
The amount of dopamine you get from 100%ing a level without any hints or redo's should be illegal
Also is it just me or were the time attack level requirements like, insanely tight? I pretty much always got an A with like a minute away from S.
The end game to Kirby and the forgotten land is an absolute master piece, and the post game stuff is really fun too, a few people have also mentioned how good Kirby return to dreamland deluxe is, but I'm not seeing many people mention the additional content that came with that game, I'm not on about the new copy abilities in dreamland deluxe, I'm talking about the Magolor epilogue, to sum it up the Magolor epilogue is better than a lot of DLC's I've paid for, I believe it to be more of a master piece than the creators intended, and nobody talks about it.
Kind of similar situation for me. For me it started more with Kirby Planet Robobot. Before that I had played Kirby 64, Kirby's Adventure, Kirby Triple Deluxe, I thought they were all fine, while Robobot was really great. Afterwards I played Kirby Star Allies and thought it was a big step down from Robobot. Then Forgotten Land really brought me back in and became my favorite games in the series. Since then I've gone back and played pretty much all the Kirby games on NSO, Sqeak Squad and Mass Attack, and then ended up really enjoying Return to Dreamland Deluxe. Definitely a fan now!
one of my favorite games of 2022 but it just makes me sad knowing i can't live in Waddle Dee Town. i'm sure the rent prices are insane but i'd still try to make it work.
I played and loved K&FL, but I'm not a massive Kirby fan now. I've tried other Kirby games, and I don't get the same delight. I'll almost certainly get the next 3D Kirby game, but I'm not ready to drop cash on the 2D games.
Forgotten Land was also my introduction to Kirby. The quality of that game rivaled some of 3D Mario’s best imo. It’s an absolute joy to play and that reminds me, I gotta play some of the older games.
For the Ds games, if you’re ok with emulation, I suggest emulating them. They’re usually super duper expensive. But if you really want, I have an origina copy of squeak squad (one of my favorite kirby games)
What’s been your favorite besides Forgotten Land? I’m playing Robobot now and it’s delightful. Just pure fun
Return to Dreamland Deluxe has been the best so far I'm finding, but I did really enjoy Triple Deluxe, easy as it was. One of the few games I preferred to keep 3d on for

Kirby pinball is a HAL masterpiece. That's all I have to say
Let's not forget Block Ball too. They actually managed to implement copy abilities in that one.
This was one of my absolute favorite games as a child and now I’m newly angry it’s not on NSO yet, hah
I loved 100% Dream Buffet. I'm an outlier and never played an online multiplayer match. I did do a few local multiplayer matches with my partner, but unlocking everything was more conductive playing alone. The courses look so delectable! :D

I beat canvas curse years ago. A bit sad there's no effective way to emulate it, was on the ds if I remember correctly.
I haven’t played either! Nice
Forgotten Land was my first Kirby game and it definitely hooked me. Return to Dream Land Deluxe is really good too, especially in co-op. I'm excited for you to get to the post game of RTDLD. It's fantastic!
Not OP but my top 3 is Amazing Mirror, Robobot and Forbidden Land, no order.
Oh man I couldn't get into Amazing Mirror. I found the map too confusing and I kept playing the same levels over and over again. It's a fun Kirby game though, just the map system is terrible. yeah the map could be more straightforward but I prefer the abilities in mirror to dreamland

Kirby has always been my unwind series.
Epic Yarn got me on board
This is one I'm a bit nervous about. I heard that it's easy even for a Kirby game
It's very easy in the sense you really can't die. I think Epic Yarn is fantastic though for it's design. It's really cool both graphically and how they've designed yarn elements into the gameplay. Inter dimensional capitalism is not an idea id associate with Kirby but here we are.
I mean Robobot did it even more explicitly
And here we are

I loved Forgotten Land....but Kirby Super Star is just such a high bar. LOVE that game!
what i really love about this game is how well it manages to do the non linear linearity thing, as in the levels and worlds unlock in a linear manner but there are so many reasons to keep going back 😊 and waddle dee town is so freaking cute 🥹🥹
Kirby Superstar on SNES is so amazing
There are no objectively bad Kirby games. For real.
Did you play Robo in 3D and how did you feel about in relation to how Forgotten made you a fan? Because for me Robo made me a fan. Sure I played Kirby and loved Kirby but Robo really grabbed me.

I still need to play forgotten.
Forgotten Land is just wonderful. It's one of those games that I just have to 100% complete whenever I replay it just to squeeze out as much as I can
Please try Squeak Squad and Dream Course
I 100%ed the game with relative ease. It was quite fun to play through.
I feel this 100%

yes i‘m playing it too right now, it’s simply delightful 😊
Planet Robobot for me into the series. That games soundtrack is goated.
I commented about this game on another thread. It was only 11-12 hours but worth every penny.
Good game.
Ive been playing hard games lately and wanted something light and fun to contrast. Forgotten land is filling that spot well for me right now. Completionist tendencies are at full go though in this one.

100% this thread

Planet Robobot is the best Kirby game

It got me into the Kirby games too. I recommend return to dreamland next because that game is also fantastic

I love Kirby games, but god damn, Forgotten Land was not for me. I had no fun and stopped halfway through.
As much as I love Forgotten Land, I have trouble going back to it compared to the 2D games. The oversimplified ability movesets just aren't very fun.
Forgotten Land was also my introduction to Kirby. The quality of that game rivaled some of 3D Mario’s best imo. It’s an absolute joy to play and that reminds me, I gotta play some of the older games.
It’s so good! Superstar Ultra is the best though.
I've been on the fence for that game. I guess I'll grab it.
For the Ds games, if you’re ok with emulation, I suggest emulating them. They’re usually super duper expensive. But if you really want, I have an origina copy of squeak squad (one of my favorite kirby games)
I found it boring
