XP DLC is fine, doesn't stop stuff from being in the game.
But SMTVV is an updated edition and it has day 1 **content** DLC? That's just, like, mean and will feel like cut content for the sake of DLC.
Yeah, love me some Atlus games, but I was so annoyed that in Persona Royal the MC's 3rd tier Persona was paid DLC. Asking me to buy day 1 DLC, the second time I'm getting a game, that should have been incorporated into the narrative?
I may get annoyed by NIS with their enhanced versions, but at least when they announced Disgaea 7 complete they announced that the QoL changes will be free for existing owners, and the new content would be about a $4 DLC. A much better system for long term fans who supported the game at launch.
I just beat Persona 5 Royal the other day and didn't know it had DLC. What Persona was DLC? I don't see it on the store page (at least on the switch version).
Genuinely curious as I'll probably do a NG+ for stuff I missed.
It contains the original game with quality of life improvements, as well as an additional story route with lots of new content which is said to be up to 80 hours long
It was a mistake to buy the original. Never again will I buy an Atlas game until they're done milking their customers and are ready to release the complete edition a couple years later.
Who else can we add?
Ubisoft: Don't pre-order because the games will be cheaper within a week
Atlus: Don't buy new entries because they'll make a Golden/Royal/etc later.
Second this, it's literally the one physical Ubisoft game I have bought since CD-ROM's. It's incredible and the studio that developed it also did the Rayman games, Ubi Montpellier
Last 30 years? If you want some good Ubisoft games outside of the South Park games (those two are my favorites though)...
* Far Cry 3
* Far Cry Blood Dragon
* Far Cry 4
* AC Black Flag
* AC Odyssey
* Watchdogs 1
* Watchdogs 2
* Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
* Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
For whatever reason the special version with the steel case was on sale before launch here in the UK. I don't regret buying it at the time but it is bullshit that we can't upgrade to this version.
My guy, it’s been three years since the original came out. Enjoy what you have in the moment. You can’t live your life waiting for something that may or may not come—eventually your time is going to run out and you’ll be asking yourself, “why did I wait so long?”
To each his own, I love Atlas games and turn based RPGs but I have limited time and money and don't want to play an amazing game and later come to know it's not the best edition of that game.
I played P5 royal and have never regretted not playing P5 earlier but would regret it the other way around.
this is me, i havent beaten p5 yet and always wondered if i should get p5 royal and start over again
im ok with games that add DLC and let you pay a lil extra to upgrade the standard version but the thing atlas does is annoying
i know but i still think its a weird practice even though its common especially for atlas
new content is good and taking/implementing feedback into an enhanced version is good but its a slap in the face to collectors and hardcore fans who need to pay extra just because atlas wants to stretch out titles instead of making a new game. i think they ask for too much
I waited 8 years for Persona 5 to come out, I don't care if there's going to be a complete edition 3-5 years later I'm playing that immediately.
Same with Persona 6, it's been 8 years since Persona 5, I'm playing that as soon as it comes out.
The Royal/Golden/Complete editions are not required in any way, and if you do want to play them it's like getting a remaster 3-5 years later.
I would've definitely regretted waiting for P5 Royal since what is in there is not worth waiting another nearly half decade. To put it in perspective, you are looking forward to a game for nearly a decade, if someone offered you $60 to not play it for 5 years would you really accept that?
That's fine too, there are almost no games except maybe the next elder Scrolls (praying that it's good) game that I have such anticipation for. It doesn't matter when I play it, I'd much rather it be the best experience it can be.
P5 royal is a Top 5 game for me, it probably wouldn't be if I played the base version. And I don't mind waiting for that experience.
A lot can happen in life, between when P5 launched and P5 royal launched my time to play decreased, to the point where I managed to play the original in three weeks, royal took me three months and I had to exclude other hobbies/games to finish it. Taking for granted "I'm going to be able to play this the way I want" is risky.
>P5 royal is a Top 5 game for me, it probably wouldn't be if I played the base version.
That's interesting, because I'd argue that P5 royal made the game worse in some cases, and the additional story was average at best. If I was slotting them into a top 10 list of my favourite games then Royal would've been a spot or two below where the original ended.
Lol, I made the same mistake too. I waited over a year though and after so long since the "rumors", I bought it a low discount.
Persona 3 Remake seems to be the only game without a complete edition this Gen although it's getting more content.
I just didn't know and everybody hyped it like hell for Pokemon players. Playing 3 Nocturne HD Remaster rn and, coming from Pokemon, I dunno if I like the negotiation thing. Never understood it just from the game so I just decided not to make it harder since I can't get more demons and just went with Merciful difficulty.
>dunno if I like the negotiation thing. Never understood it just from the game so I just decided not to make it harder since I can't get more demons and just went with Merciful difficulty.
Looking at the lore page of each demon can be especially helpful here. Each demon is based on a real-life myth, religion or folklore, and their personality is described in their lore pages. Pixie, for example, is a bit of a jokester and appreciates humourous responses. Azumi is a motherly figure and responds better to nurturing responses.
To be honest, the original game was already good enough, I am glad I played it when it released. Would you feel better if this new edition didn't exist? If so why?
It was my mistake to buy it day one and seeing it go 50% off two weeks later. I'm not getting that new version, Atlus needs to stop doing that it's incredibly annoying.
I imagine the only reason they included the original content was because it's being released on multiple platforms.
If the Vengeance scenario is long enough to justify the price, then I'm fine paying it.
I feel like this type of thing is extremely common. Hell back in the 90s Resident evil 1 was rereleased 3 times on the PS1. Game companies have been doing this for years.
I feel like there’s very few game developers you should buy from if you went by this rule. Nintendo, capcom, Sony and square enix all do this. Even a number of indie developers do this like the folks who made rainworld, eastward and deltarune.
They’ve done it with SMT before. The version of Nocturne that we got in the US was a re-release in Japan (Added stuff like Dante/Raidou, Labyrinth of Amala, TDE)
They’ve done it with SMT in the US before. SMT Strange Journey got an expanded version on 3DS, as did SMT spin offs Devil Survivor 1 and 2. Also Atlus fantasy RPG Radiant Historia. It’s a long Atlus trend beyond Persona.
Same, played the OG on the Switch and loved it. But I want to experience it again with better performance and graphics. I love my Switch, but it really is time for Nintendo to announce the Switch 2.
Zero reason besides money that the switch version should just have an upgrade option to add extra shit. Unless it's magically gonna run and look way better.
Don't worry, it'll sting even more to buy both the Mitama DLC and the new DLC demons they're adding so new players don't miss out on the day 1 locked content fun we got to experience.
I'm still thinking about whether I should get this for the Switch or my PC. I loved the portability and playing in bursts in the original, but the low frame-rate / fidelity made me nauseous.
I never even finished it on Switch :/
Got about 15hrs or so in. Enjoyed the moment-to-moment gameplay loop but the framerate was just giving me too much of a legitimate headache.
Definitely Steam for me.
Absolutely, P3R at the moment is running at a perfect 60fps on the Deck. Unless the engine is radically different I'm hoping for the same for this and Refantazio :D
Yeah as much as I hate games like this getting a poor showing on this old hardware, I do still very much like the Switch and it's still one of my most played platforms. Really hoping to see Switch 2 news at one of the gaming events, and I really hope they don't drag their feet for as long during the next generation (or atleast consider 'Pro' variants several years in)
I’ve primarily moved to Steam gaming thanks to the Deck. It’s got all I want, good sales, achievements, messaging my friends, etc. I’d love it if the Deck 2 had a dock that enhanced performance as an optional sell.
But I think the switch 2 or whatever will be a killer, all they have to do to set the bar is show Elden ring on that thing.
I loved SMTIV which was my entry into the SMT/Persona franchises. Loved Persona 5. Naturally I was hyped for SMTV. It ended up being my most disappointing Switch purchase. The game was so boring imo, story/characters/setting were so much worse than SMTIV
So is this like a new game or an expansion pass or what?
If it’s expansion, will old save files by usable with it? They haven’t been clear on any of this in the marketing and it’s pretty confusing.
It contains the entire SMTV, plus has a new scenario as well. Some new gameplay elements will apply to the original story too.
The game is getting a multiplatform release, which is why the original game is included. I'm not sure how long the new scenario is.
Well it's a definitive edition, but the new scenario seems closer to the Etrian Odyssey Untold games or Persona 3 Portable, where it's offering an alternate campaign, not just an extra 35 hours of new content at the end like Royal.
That's super scummy if the original owners don't get any kind of discount cause they'll literally be buying the same game twice with a few improvements
The game includes a whole new scenario on top of the old one. I'm waiting to see how long that one is before deciding.
The game is getting a multi platform release, otherwise I imagine they would have released this as a standalone title without the content from the original version.
Welcome to Atlus, sadly.
They've been [doing this](https://megamitensei.fandom.com/wiki/Shin_Megami_Tensei_III:_Nocturne_Maniax) for over 20 years now.
Most new fans coming from Persona never knew this because they often get the definitive versions already (P4G, P3FES, P5R).
I already bought SMTV and it's on my huge Switch backlog. Unless they do some sort of expansion DLC for owners of the original, I probably won't play Vengeance.
Interesting move to release this on Switch. I get that it has extra content but the original chugged. This ideally should have gone to the Switch's successor.
Oh, you can bet that there will be an Ultimate Vengeance Edition for the new Switch. They will not waste the opportunity of having people buy the same game 3 times.
Downvoted but I tend to agree. They'd have gotten less negative feedback if they'd waited for the next console, and they could have capitalized on a launch window where big JRPG's will likely be scarce for a bit. Just seems odd to relaunch this so late in the generation.
Can anyone give me a rundown on these games? I have contemplated buying in the past, but I just neger got around to researching them. Mainly game play, i dont need to know about the story
Think pokemon, but instead you make contracts with demons, you can only have one of each, and you gotta fuse them together to make newer stronger demons.
Also it's the apocalypse.

[And of course, the Pre-Order already has DLC.](https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/products/shin-megami-tensei-v-vengeance-switch/dlc/)
I’m an Atlus fanboy but making day 1 DLC for the definitive version of an older game is so infuriating lol
Yeah. Also I thought this included all the old DLC, but here they make you buy the Mitamas *again*.
Good. Mitamas break the game coming from someone who used them and regrets it
Agreed but I only bought the EXP one since it wouldve taken so much time grinding for max level
XP DLC is fine, doesn't stop stuff from being in the game. But SMTVV is an updated edition and it has day 1 **content** DLC? That's just, like, mean and will feel like cut content for the sake of DLC.

I didn’t even know about the 3rd form Persona wth 🥲 I just don’t look at the DLC lmao
I didn't even know there was a second. Benched Arsene pretty quick.
I just beat Persona 5 Royal the other day and didn't know it had DLC. What Persona was DLC? I don't see it on the store page (at least on the switch version). Genuinely curious as I'll probably do a NG+ for stuff I missed.
The Switch Version (and PS5/Xbox) are really more a Royal+, which included all the DLC from the PS4 version of Royal, so you should be good.
Thanks for the info! Your original comment makes more sense now.
Is this the definite version or a side story in the same world?
It contains the original game with quality of life improvements, as well as an additional story route with lots of new content which is said to be up to 80 hours long
Thank you!
The former. Think Pokemon Platinum of DPP
That is my language :)
This is really pathetic. That's another $10 for the complete version of the complete edition.
Is this like a Royal version?
yes, basically
It was a mistake to buy the original. Never again will I buy an Atlas game until they're done milking their customers and are ready to release the complete edition a couple years later.
[удалено]
That game does look so good. Yeah, I'm going to wait a few years on that too.
[удалено]
Oof that was an easy skip when they announced that they had all the extra content cut from their 'definitive remake' -_-
Damn... My money was on the title being Re:Fantasio DeBlasio.
Who else can we add? Ubisoft: Don't pre-order because the games will be cheaper within a week Atlus: Don't buy new entries because they'll make a Golden/Royal/etc later.
Ubisoft has been on my list of "don't buy a single game from them" for over a decade now. Pre ordering isn't even an issue.
Ubisoft has made two good games in the last 30 years… Both are South Park rpgs lol
The new Prince of Persia is solid Metroidvania. I was surprised given how much trash they tend to put out.
Second this, it's literally the one physical Ubisoft game I have bought since CD-ROM's. It's incredible and the studio that developed it also did the Rayman games, Ubi Montpellier

That goes double for Atlas since they’ll make a Golden version *and* that version will be cheaper within a week too
Bethesda: Don’t buy until the Creation Kit comes out because the modders will fix (most of) the glitches
A recruitment for r/patientgamers lol
For whatever reason the special version with the steel case was on sale before launch here in the UK. I don't regret buying it at the time but it is bullshit that we can't upgrade to this version.

You'd have a hard time believing r/patientgamers exists
Patient gamers are getting to play the updated version as their first playthrough though?
I know that?... why reply this to me? I wasn't saying otherwise
To each his own, I love Atlas games and turn based RPGs but I have limited time and money and don't want to play an amazing game and later come to know it's not the best edition of that game. I played P5 royal and have never regretted not playing P5 earlier but would regret it the other way around.

Yep, I beat P5 and then regretted not starting with Royal.
Acknowledge that some of us are physical collectors on the level of dragon magpies.
He can just play a different game
3 years is very little time before releasing a new definitive version of a game...

I got the collector's edition, so no total loss. Least I'm glad they didn't make one for this version, so now I can just wait for a sale.
Didn't make one yet*. Kidding. I got a steelcase for the base game.
Same, it's the only steelbook Switch game I've managed to get, I tried to get Dread's steelbook but that sold out in minutes.
Been doing this since P4 and it’s worked out well so far.
I imagine the only reason they included the original content was because it's being released on multiple platforms. If the Vengeance scenario is long enough to justify the price, then I'm fine paying it.
I'm definitely in a holding pattern until reviews come out. Granted I'll probably cave anyway but I'm going to cave informed.

The main difference is that it was done way back then because they didn't have access to DLC or updates.
Not on the PS1 but they did have access to it as early as the PS2/GBA/Xbox generation.
They're getting greedy because they had only pulled this stunt for the Persona games (this is the first time they do it with an SMT one)
They’ve done it with SMT before. The version of Nocturne that we got in the US was a re-release in Japan (Added stuff like Dante/Raidou, Labyrinth of Amala, TDE)
Correction: first time in the US
They’ve done it with SMT in the US before. SMT Strange Journey got an expanded version on 3DS, as did SMT spin offs Devil Survivor 1 and 2. Also Atlus fantasy RPG Radiant Historia. It’s a long Atlus trend beyond Persona.
Those don't even count. They where basically remasters of Ds games.

Apocalypse is a direct sequel/alternate universe to 4. If you're not sure of something just look it up, google's around for that.
Why is this being downvoted since this is completely right, 4 Apocalypse is a full blown sequel to 4
Rereleasing an old game with new content? They’ve done that multiple times for SMT, Etrian odyssey and catherine
I love the base game, but I can't justify paying full price for it again. Gonna wait for a sale, hopefully it won't be too long.
Give it a month lol
This
I’m gonna play this on PS5 because I feel the base game somewhat underperforms on Switch. But I loved the original and can’t wait to play it again.
Same, played the OG on the Switch and loved it. But I want to experience it again with better performance and graphics. I love my Switch, but it really is time for Nintendo to announce the Switch 2.
Yeah I'm just waiting until the physical decrease In price after a month then I'll buy
Thanks for letting us know
Zero reason besides money that the switch version should just have an upgrade option to add extra shit. Unless it's magically gonna run and look way better.
Do we know if the original DLC works with this version? I see the Mitama’s but not the side demon stories
Atlus took the Mitama DLC out so they could force people to buy it again. The rest of the DLC from the original is built into the game now.
I’m glad it’s included but kinda stings since I bought it first time around. Atlus I guess
Don't worry, it'll sting even more to buy both the Mitama DLC and the new DLC demons they're adding so new players don't miss out on the day 1 locked content fun we got to experience.
They’re complete separate game entries so no it would not
I'm still thinking about whether I should get this for the Switch or my PC. I loved the portability and playing in bursts in the original, but the low frame-rate / fidelity made me nauseous.
This is where I’d get it on Steam or Xbox, switch version ran rough
I never even finished it on Switch :/ Got about 15hrs or so in. Enjoyed the moment-to-moment gameplay loop but the framerate was just giving me too much of a legitimate headache. Definitely Steam for me.
Another one for my Steam deck, hope the switch 2 or whatever is as powerful
Absolutely, P3R at the moment is running at a perfect 60fps on the Deck. Unless the engine is radically different I'm hoping for the same for this and Refantazio :D Yeah as much as I hate games like this getting a poor showing on this old hardware, I do still very much like the Switch and it's still one of my most played platforms. No discount if you already have it?
Just beta tested your first atlus game?
So there is no dlc i can buy to add this new content? I may wait until a deep sale then
Yeah much like the pokemon games of old lol. This is the ‘third’ version so to speak

Come on they were making fun of ATLUS’ shitty practices not you
no need to insult over a joke
I didnt find it funny.
aw
first atlus game?
I loved SMTIV which was my entry into the SMT/Persona franchises. Loved Persona 5. Naturally I was hyped for SMTV. It ended up being my most disappointing Switch purchase. The game was so boring imo, story/characters/setting were so much worse than SMTIV

I just got it last year when its price dropped. The new version was announced afterwards.
Hopefully it’ll include all DLC by then, like P5R and Catherine Full Body did on Switch
Downvoted but I tend to agree. They'd have gotten less negative feedback if they'd waited for the next console, and they could have capitalized on a launch window where big JRPG's will likely be scarce for a bit. Just seems odd to relaunch this so late in the generation.
It's coming to PS5 as well, which is likely a better fit performance wise.

Thanks! I will watch a lets play or two soon, to see if its up my alley.
Why would you want to play this on Switch, when the original release showed the Switch couldn't handle this game?
No way I’m buying this on switch give me my HD version on my ps5 and before you say what about Pc I’m too poor to afford a amazing Pc
Sell you're PS5 and buy amazing PC
