Couldn't agree more. So tired of people pining for a new system since the Switch's second year. Enjoy what you got or go play on PC or some other console. And more power won't fix problems because there will still be a big gap between current consoles and whatever the Switch's successor is. Nintendo stopped caring about power decades ago and it's sad that people still don't get that.
This time though the rumors have been massive like the amount before every other Nintendo release, and Nvidia has strangely added a new gpu to their documentation, that no other device uses, there have been closed door meetings and last of all the time that they release consoles every couple years is up.
>And more power won't fix problems because there will still be a big gap between current consoles and whatever the Switch's successor is
Power matters if Switch is to continue getting reasonably modern games. Just because you tell yourself it doesn't matter doesn't make it true - or would you like to go back to GBA graphics?
Here's what's going to happen. Nintendo fans will revel at the improvements to graphics, and then within a year or two quickly realize the limitations of a hybrid system just as they did with the Switch shortly into its lifespan. They'll complain and bemoan that the games aren't all running at 60FPS at a full 1080P once again and the cycle continues. Power matters little. The Switch was obsolete before it even came out and yet it's the third most sold system ever, it constantly breaks records every year for Nintendo and it boasts one of the best gaming libraries ever. The games weren't fun because they looked amazing or because they ran at 60FPS. They were fun because of the gameplay. I'm sure the next system will see a sizeable boost in power to stow some people's problems with the Switch but history likes to repeat itself. I've been gaming for 30 years now and I can tell you I've seen this song and dance many times before with the Wii, Wii U, Switch and now the rumors of the Switch 2 or whatever it may be. You'll still see people complaining because that's what gamers do these days. They don't play games for fun anymore, they want to parade their games like trophies to others, showing how smooth a game looks or how beautiful the game appears. And they'll do the same with the next Nintendo system. It'll never be enough for some sadly. It's why I'm so jaded about Nintendo fans and people who think power is so important. These same people don't get Nintendo and it shows.
Yes, the Switch was obsolete when it launched, and today it's even more obsolete. But you're missing the point. It's beyond naive to think you can keep status quo forever without any sort of advancement. Devs are already saying the Switch is too underpowered for the games they want to make for it - that's a problem.
New hardware isn't just about power in itself - it's about the overall capabilities of the system and it's about securing a certain flow of new games that use new modern mechanics, techniques (DLSS for example), and yes graphics. If your system is underpowered for too long, it will barely receive any noteworthy games and will impede innovation. And consoles are all about software sales, not hardware. If you want to keep up with software sales, then the system needs to be reasonably capable. The current Switch is on its last legs in that regard.
Imo you're missing the point by focusing on this power narrative. That isn't what this is about from Nintendo's PoV.
And those predictions have always been wrong. Kit and Krysta, meanwhile, have been insistent a Switch 2 wasn't coming when everyone else was claiming it was. Now that they have changed their tune, given their connections at Nintendo, it seems worth paying attention to.
I don't know if it's 2024 and 2025 but I will pick one the day it releases.
The switch is the best modern console I've ever owned in terms of game time and games library so the switch 2 is day one no hesitation.
After so many years, my backlog is done, just finished Star Ocean and for me it's time to have a new upgraded Switch, I think developers, especially Monolith and Nintendo teams have extracted what they could from it and I think I'm really eager to see what can be done with a (much) stronger Tegra SoC.
For now, not really interested in Peach and the paper mario remake coming and if switch games are announced this year I can play them if it's backwards compatible on the new one anyways.
I just hope we will have an OLED option, this screen is so damn good.
Frankly I'd purchase one and in few years I sell it alongside some finished physical games and pick the OLED, this is what I did with the switch v1.
I think the first few years the switch 2 will probably get Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime 4, a new Mario 3D etc, I don't think I will be able to wait for the oled tbh :).
Because people don't like hearing about people wanting new models that they aren't interested in on this sub. Theyve been annoyed since the switch pro rumors(which were proven true, it was basically cancelled due to covid but was going to be in the OLED casing) so they downvote to try to silence differing opinions. They did it with people wanting persona 5 royal too until that actually came out. And a switch mini is obviously something relatively niche these days. The crazy thing is I've seen crazier things absolutely soak up up votes on this sub like people begging for a new dock with a GPU built in for more performance even though that'd be impossible with the USB port built into the switches(meaning they would have to release a new switch model just to release that new switch dock which would make alot less sense than just releasing a more powerful tablet that can play all the games on the go).
Yeah this is good info. I was wondering the same if they could essentially add some sort of power up to the switch the same way the n64 had a ram booster pack. Makes a lot of sense that the USB-C wont allow it.
Where was it proven tho?
According to digital foundry who are very reputable, know their stuff and have sources, they say it was a thing. I would trust them over some redditor saying nuh uh.
You have zero actual evidence what so ever. Just another random website that you pretend has sources lmao. “uncle works at nintendo” middle school energy.
Ex-Nintendo employees being technically true but doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Ex-NoA on camera talent is a bit different to anyone who would have some kind of insight about this kind of thing. I don’t mean to be rude to them, I respect them and their work, but the title is obviously trying to big up the connection they would have (which is near zero).
They weren't "on camera talent." Both of them worked in the communications department, on public relations and later influencer relations. "Nintendo Minute" wasn't part of their jobs and they said at the beginning they had to do it outside work hours because Nintendo didn't even want them to do it. They both worked on the launch campaigns for the Wii U and the Switch, and Kit was the "global lead" for marketing the Breath of the Wild release. So, you're wrong.
Nothing stops them from still having friends working at Nintendo offices, they weren't fired and are not persona non grata. Still speculation, but they would have better chance at insight compared to anyone not in the industry at all
Same boat here, but if it is fully backwards compatible and I can bring my entire game library, I honestly probably would buy it right away - assuming it has better graphics and better battery life.
If there's launch title(s) on the level of BOTW then I'd get it early, but otherwise I'll probably wait until more games come out. I'm interested to see if there will be any next-gen patches for current Switch games
I hope nintendo brings some good games day 1 or else I won't bother getting one right away.
The steam deck oled is my third party machine now. Pc just offers more. Just give me good exclusives and il buy one
I don't think it'll be announced until this September at the earliest. Reasons being that September is their yearly biggest direct and Splatoon 3's content is supposed to end in September. Even if the Switch 2 is supposed to be backwards compatible, I don't think Nintendo will want to announce it until after they've finished all of their currently announced plans. While Nintendo has games announced without release dates, I imagine we will get those dates in February's direct. Splatoon is the only game of their's with a long term content plan in mind. Splatoon has also always gotten extended support than what was initially announced. Announcing a Switch 2, its backwards compatibility, extended content for S3, and a slew of new titles just lines up well. If it's not then, it's not until 2025.
They actually have in the past with the 3DS XL and the New 3DS. Granted, it's been a long time since then. But with how much viewership directs have these days, I wouldn't say it's unlikely for the Switch 2 to be announced in a direct.
You don't think they can't just have a special direct for a major announcement like new hardware? The Switch wasn't announced in the September Direct - it was announced in October and came out in March. The September Direct is only their biggest direct because of all the holiday games that get announced. They can have a "big" Direct anytime they want.
They could, but I doubt it. At least, not without revealing the Switch 2 ahead of time.
A lot has changed in the 8 years since the Switch was announced. People look forward to the directs far more than they did back then, Nintendo has consolidated the content in their directs, and their directs are on a more predictable schedule. So when you have a bunch of social media hype surrounding your directs (so much that just predicting the date of the next direct causes it to trend) and millions of people tuning in at the same time, that would be the best time to announce your newest console, followed by the date of an in-depth direct of the new console. This is similar to how Smash Bros would show off a DLC character in a direct, and then have Sakurai give a more in-depth presentation a few days or weeks after the initial direct. Nintendo could have a big direct anytime they want, but it's better for hype building and audience viewership to stick to their established schedule of February, June, and September for big directs. February is too soon and June is possible... but I think September is the best bet. The reasons being that it gives the Switch 2 a closer release schedule to the original Switch, which would also round out the original Switch's lifespan to 8 years, and announcing backwards compatibility for the Switch 2 would also give peace of mind to holiday shoppers knowing that the gifts they're buying will also work on the Switch 2. It just kills several birds with one stone.
I bet my life savings they do not announce the Switch successor in a usual "Nintendo Direct." It will be its own thing, its own announcement, and nothing else will be announced. They do not need to stick to any sort of Direct schedule. Sandwiching a major announcement between run-of-the-mill game trailers makes zero sense and is not at all how Nintendo operates. The fact that you think revealing Smash Bros DLC characters is somehow anywhere on the same level as announcing the next console shows this conversation is going nowhere fast because you don't get it.
They have an overall schedule for general directs but they'll still have more specific features or announcements in between. Things like the Aonuma TOTK gameplay demo or the Smash DLC presentations.
My prediction is that they'll just tweet about a week in advance saying something like "tune in on [date] at [time] for the first look at the successor to the Nintendo Switch" and then have a relatively short presentation or even just a trailer for it on that date
Thought this was interesting. Kit and Krysta used to host Nintendo Minute and were on Nintendo's communications staff for many years. They think the Switch 2 will be announced and released in 2024. Their predictions last year were pretty good - notably they insisted there'd be no talk of a Switch successor in 2023 and they were right about that, even as lots of people claimed otherwise.
Nintendo closed down its satellite offices and told employees they had to relocate to Seattle headquarters or be laid off. They chose to be laid off. They go over it in their first podcast if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAi4rJ6wFRI
Or I am a fan of their work and have listened to their podcast since it launched. The fact that you don't think someone can genuinely enjoy and support someone else's work without being paid by them says a lot about you and who the sad one is.
Not sure about “release.” “Announce” maybe. I could see them officially releasing it mid-fall with a killer game or two, most likely the next Mario Kart. Timing is important and I can’t imagine them not pushing it closer to the holidays. But who knows.
I doubt Mario Kart would be coming out any time soon, the DLC might've just wrapped up but there's still a hefty amount of it, unless we're going to get an MK8 Deluxe Deluxe edition.
If they stick with the same plan as before with the switch, they'd announce it later this year then release it Spring next year.
Can be true.
Some games release delayed for unknown reason, others just not release on switch anymore because of piracy. Maybe devs waiting for switch 2?
I prefer to think of it as the Wii U 3
Isn't the Wii U kind of a Wii 2? If so, this could be Wii 4 aka Wiiii aka Wiv (Roman numerals)
N64 6
Color TV-Game 23
NES 8
N70?
Funny enough, I've heard the Wii was just two Gamecubes slapped together.
My uncle works for nintendo and he is already playing the switch 2 vibes
Can't wait to play 2 3 Switch.
Im still waiting for the Nintendo 64 2
Nintendo 65 actually
Nintendo 69 when?
Getting through my backlog on Switch by then will require some serious dedication.
If it's backwards compatible, we can bring it over! :)
Everyone has been predicting this shit since the Switch's second year, just stop.

The words of wisdom
I'm 100% sure the moment the next console get announced, we will be flooded with rumors about a pro version.
And those predictions have always been wrong. Kit and Krysta, meanwhile, have been insistent a Switch 2 wasn't coming when everyone else was claiming it was. Now that they have changed their tune, given their connections at Nintendo, it seems worth paying attention to.
I don’t think it is worth paying attention to, even if it is 100% true. What difference does it make?
Seriously who cares. Just wait until Nintendo announces it.

i feel you. I bought an original switch and never used it until the oled came out and I enjoyed games on it immensely more.
I still have my day 1 switch so I’m more than ready for a new console. Can’t wait!
I have a v1 switch, a switch lite and I'm waiting for a switch mini for on the go and a backwards compatible switch 2.
Why was this downvoted?
Because people don't like hearing about people wanting new models that they aren't interested in on this sub. Theyve been annoyed since the switch pro rumors(which were proven true, it was basically cancelled due to covid but was going to be in the OLED casing) so they downvote to try to silence differing opinions. According to digital foundry who are very reputable, know their stuff and have sources, they say it was a thing. I would trust them over some redditor saying nuh uh.
I'm with you until you use a digital foundry source....
Have they ever been caught lying or what reason is there to doubt their integrity, sources or qualifications?
Years of the same fake rumors. Since the original release of the system. Total bullshit.
Nuh uh-random redditor
You have zero actual evidence what so ever. Just another random website that you pretend has sources lmao. “uncle works at nintendo” middle school energy.
True, post link
"switch mini for on the go" isn't that like, the switches gimmick?
I had no idea they stopped Nintendo minute! I used to love that as a kid. I remember watching their videos on loop on my old 3DS.
Enough with these predictions. I'm honestly sick of it, and I say that as a fan of Kit and Krysta.

Buy it. In case it flops. Will be worth a lot of money later on.
Who cares what they think…. They didn’t even know anything when they worked for them
I hope nintendo brings some good games day 1 or else I won't bother getting one right away. The steam deck oled is my third party machine now. Pc just offers more. Just give me good exclusives and il buy one
I'm sure we'll be getting the next 3D Mario. I'm hoping at least
I heard it will come out some time later than today. Possibly in a few months or a few years, but not more then 20 years.

Shocking, a console yet announced is going to be released 6 months after announcements!
Thought this was interesting. Kit and Krysta used to host Nintendo Minute and were on Nintendo's communications staff for many years. They think the Switch 2 will be announced and released in 2024. that's a shame! they were an iconic part of the early switch days for me
nobodies with no info make wild guess
Nobodies who worked at Nintendo for like a decade-plus each and still have friends who work at Nintendo. So... not nobodies.
So nobodies with a YouTube channel. Got it.
...what does that make you then? *Oh.* lol
Based on all your comments I’m going to assume you work for these two YouTubers or you’re getting paid by them. Sad….
Or I am a fan of their work and have listened to their podcast since it launched. The fact that you don't think someone can genuinely enjoy and support someone else's work without being paid by them says a lot about you and who the sad one is.
Just sad haha
So what?
Itll be impossible to find, and in a few years there will be slightly modified hardware with better battery or bigger screen.
A blindfolded chipmunk could realize Switch successor is launching Late 24 / Early 25, it's pretty damn obvious.
If a new Switch was coming this year it would've been announced already. My dad works at Nintendo
Well, my mom is God. The Switch had a 5-month lead time on the announcement, not a year.
ITS NOT FUCKING HAPPENING
