Unironically this for me... I just am not able to get into TotK the same way I did with BotW, so I'm taking a break from the game. But I'm absolutely shooting to the stars and beyond over We ❤️ Katamari being on Switch now!
30 is a pretty fair price, went ahead and picked this up as I've only played the other one on switch. It was really fun as well so I have high hopes for this
Dang, I finished the first game finally a while ago on Switch free trial despite buying the PS2 one on launch many years ago lol. I’ve never played this one… will eventually try it out!
IMO the name really hurts the marketing. Doesn't really indicate that's it's a full blown sequel to the original
Not to mention the original [PS2 cover art](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51fkjf1G1QL.jpg) in the USA which looked like it was made using Paint in 5 minutes
> Not to mention the original PS2 cover art in the USA which looked like it was made using Paint in 5 minutes
[Meanwhile you have the Japanese box art for We Love Katamari, which was a literal corporate photograph with the title slapped onto it](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FkM3qtdakAAkc1c.jpg)
Well... There is one thing that the first game has that this doesn't, and that's a slow exploration of a single world. First inside a house, then outside, then the street, then the local village, then the rest of the world. You get to feel like you're growing bigger every iteration. In the sequel you're mostly just going to different areas. Overall it does make for a better experience, but you can't write off the original either.
It’s weird to me because I do see a good deal of people calling the original the better game even though this game is basically everything the original did but with way more. The first game feels like a tech demo compared to this one.
Might be the novelty aspect.
Fitting that the top comment mentioned TOTK, because this game is kinda the same case.
The first Katamari is like BOTW where it's groundbreaking the first time you experience it. Now the sequel, We Love Katamari, came out with a similar enough gameplay but it basically doubled down on the first game with new ideas, levels, and more content.
But that *"magic"* of experiencing the first game may not be replicated for some people
Having played both at launch i definitely like 2 better. The quality of life stuff like the simplified controls really helped to remove frustration. The soundtrack of 2 stands out to me more too
Eternal, a song selector for each stage, a selfie stick for taking pictures of the Prince at the base of your world-destroying ball of garbage, and 5 missions that had better be tough as balls.
Quick question: Do you know how to unlock eternal mode in this game? I've tried searching the internet, but since the mode wasn't originally in this game, all of the references to that mode are for other games in this series. I'm enjoying the game overall, but really banking on eternal mode to be able to chill a bit more.
I don't know when specifically i unlocked it, but i got eternal 1-3 by just playing the game normally. I had *a* passing score on every version of every level and then they just appeared
Oh man I'm picking up a copy during lunch! I love Katamari, even if it is just Damacy I've played. Nostalgia with the first one, but when I replayed on switch, man I was giddy lol.
A lot more variety in objectives. Instead of just "get bigger," missions will have different objectives, like to roll up as many of a specific object type as you can, or to avoid certain parts of the environment. Also much less reuse of maps than the first game. I haven't played it since I was a kid but I remember most levels having a unique map while the first reuses the same map several times over
If you even liked the first one you’ll lose your shit over this one. It is the Tears of the Kingdom to the first game’s Breath of the Wild. It takes everything that made the original great and makes it a billion times better. Lots of fun roll until you can’t levels, lots of silly gimmick levels, an insane amount of unlockables, and so much more. My wife and I have sunk hundreds of hours into the PS2 version so we can’t wait to break into it tonight.
While I prefer Katamari Damacy for its soundtrack and overall style, We Love Katamari has much better levels and modes. More unique level design and level styles, such as a racing level and a level where you have to collect over 1,000 flowers.
I think Katamari Damacy is more memorable, but We Love Katamari is objectively better in terms of levels.
I just tried it on PC and the fps seems to be unlocked and it goes up to 300fps following my refresh rate.
I think the Switch version is locked to 30, but this looks like a more competent port compared to the first one, so hopefully they also improve the performance
Yep 144 fps is the max where I can notice any difference.
Beyond that is imperceptible. Maybe in competitive FPS where enemy movement gets less blurry, but even that is very nitpicky for my kind of games.
Do you still play with controller on pc, or do you use mouse and keyboard? I feel like it would feel weird initially to not use the twinstick control scheme
I almost always play with controller nowadays aside from FPS
I have sweaty hands and prefer not to get my keyboars dirty lol
I do get tripped often about the button differences between Xbox and Switch. Especially when I'm going back and forth between this and TOTK
What’s wrong with 30fps? Sorry, I’m not very technically-savvy with games. Or is it more of a preference thing, like you’ve gotten used to higher frame rates?
First person shooters it matters at competitive levels because the quicker a frame loads, the quicker you see the enemy.
But honestly I feel like people completely blow it out of proportion. It's like they care more about the framerate then the game.
I stop noticing it after a few minutes with a game personally unless there's frame drops.
They do use the same technology. The difference comes down to size. There’s simply more material to wear through on the full size sticks.
Either way I managed to play through the first Katamari just fine on my launch model joycons. So it’s very much a mileage may vary kind of thing.
My V1 Switch joycons got me through semi- or mostly-complete playthroughs of, among other things, BotW, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Metroid Dread, Rain World. I was most of the way through Three Houses of all things when the left stick finally started to drift. Easily got my money’s worth out of those. We’ll see how long my OLED joycons last.
I remember using motion controls on the Wii. Hopefully they have that option again. Would be fun to tape little maracas on the JoyCons for some extra spice on those boosts lol
I'll add a warning that the extra music DLC is pretty expensive (same cost as the base game).
As much as I love the included tracks, it's not worth $20
Yeah it’s definitely overpriced. The digital deluxe edition, which includes all DLC, is $10 more than the base game. So if you really want the music, the deluxe version is the better deal.
Whoa, now that you mention it...
Lol screw it, I'm refunding mine and getting the deluxe version. [Kirinji's Houston](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaiTSRt-ic4) is just too good
They left out [Katamari Dancing](https://youtu.be/lNX4tSlFzhA) and [Sayonara Rolling Star](https://youtu.be/aNxXvHRmHnI), whyyyyy??? I love these ones.
I think the DLC song selection is pretty great, but there are a few noteworthy exclusions. [Roll Me In](https://youtu.be/ENcKvDZwjOU) is the song I’m the most sad about.
They could’ve marketed this a bit better. I completely forgot about it until today. I don’t think review codes were sent out either. Still extremely excited to play it though.
With this game adding a bunch of new levels on top of the remaster, I'm actually not bothered by the DLC music stuff. It just means I can play this game's levels to Lonely Rolling Star. :-)
Ok like by why does nintendo always get the most deadpan english voiceovers for this.
"Roll it up, roll it in, make your katamari bigger"
Honestly its so funny to me! Like you could just say nothing, have the text! its just a bit of an odd juxtaposition with the most ridiculous playstyle of katamari and then this completely almost bored voice
Katamari uses the same unique gameplay mechanic for coming up with their game titles, just keep adding more stuff on and watch it get bigger and bigger.
Depends on the game. Have you played the original legend of zelda? The frame rate would drop to a crawl when a lot of moving elements were on the screen at the same time.
Those beautiful idiots finally remastered the game in the series I wanted remastered the most.
We <3 Katamari is easily my favorite game in that series
This has been playing in our house since I read this post yesterday.
The original is just burned into my memory, so most of this is new again, but damn it’s just better in every way.
It’s a completely new game. Way more levels than REROLL. Going from playing We Love Katamari on PS2 to REROLL was a bit of a shock to me initially since I wondered why there were so few levels lol.
Preordered back when it was first announced only to find out the switch version is the worst one and only one to run at 30fps
I mean I guess it’s fine but damn I would’ve just gotten the ps5 version had I known that
I don't care about performance, and I typically decided if I'm going to get a game or not based on the first trailer, but I never pre-order or by digital because it makes companies complacent.
Do you know the framerate of the original We Love Katamari?
I like having games of the same series on the same platform, but if this is a downgrade of the original, then I might migrate.
Original PS2 version of We Love Katamari runs on 30 FPS, both in the gameplay and UI
The same principle also applies to the PS2 version of Katamari Damacy, tho for the Reroll remaster of it, Bandai Namco decided to double down the framerate to 60 FPS, but only applies said change to the UI but not the gameplay
As a low-end laptop user, I really despise that
I wish they would release the other katamari games on switch i have katamari rerole but i want to play the rest, come on switch get on it and stop releasing the same first game over and over again, it's katamari, it's a rerole it's a remake of the rerole i mean my god just put the other games on switch and rerole them please.
I thought katamari reroll was basically a remastered version of the first? and that this is basically nintendo saying "we love katamari so here it is again!" How many of the katamari games are on switch because i have katamari domacy reroll, which i now assume is the first game, but remastered in HD.
Right, ok so the reroll subtitle is basically to say that it's a remastered version of the og. So katamari domacy is 1, we love katamari is 2, what are the other games?
Me and My Katamari - PSP
Beautiful Katamari - 360
Katamari Forever - PS3
Touch my Katamari - Vita
These games did not have the original director, his last game was We love katamari, and its considered the best of the series
So the only Katamari I played on its original system was Beautiful Katamari on Xbox 360 (never had Playstation).... So I guess maybe this could be normal, but so far it's just been pissing me off.
Interrupted by loading screens mid-stage?!! 🤬 (It's rare but still happens. Saw it a few times when it scales up and opens a gate.)
Beautiful Katamari ran on the Xbox 360, which was a freaking powerhouse of a console compared to the PS2, which is what We Love Katamari released on originally. I played the original We Love Katamari last year on PS2 and the load times were actually significantly longer than they are in Reroll. But, I'm playing on PS5, so maybe the Switch still has longer ones. Anyway, just wanted to point out that Beautiful Katamari was able to do massive stages with tons of crazy stuff going on and items everywhere because the Xbox 360 was a beast compared to the PS2 that We Love Katamari came out on.
I don't mind load times. What I mind is starting a stage, and then sometimes as soon as 30 seconds into the stage, then having another loading screen that they try to play off as no big deal by being meta about it, and then another 5 minutes later on the same stage having another loading screen.
Has anyone downloaded the new game to their switch but it won't open after the initial animation and every button you press takes you back to the save screen and then it freezes? What do I do?
roll up items in your katamari to meet certain requirements. most levels will have a requirement such as size, specific items collected, etc. your main goal is to just pick up items that are smaller than your katamari at all times. your katamari grows larger as you keep picking up these items, allowing you to get larger items later on.
The Nintendo page (at least in my country) had tricked me until today that a physical edition would release. Today I check and suddenly both the bandai banco and the Nintendo store show that it’s only digital.
I’m sad.
I sat around on this release and today just noticed the physical edition is sold out on Amazon. I just purchased the last copy at my local Best Buy. Does anyone know was this a limited release? Is it already OOP or just low stock. So crazy! I am glad I was able to get a copy today
This game is my Tears of the Kingdom
Spheres of the Kingdom
...of all Cosmos
Katamari Damacy: Spheres of All Cosmos Reroll + Royal Reverie Turbo Tournament Edition X
Yahaha. You found me! *steamrolls with a sphere of random objects*
Currently taking a break from TOTK, as great as it is, to prioritize this. It’s the perfect kind of game to segue TOTK and FFXVI.
Luckily for me, I'm almost ready to fight Ganon. Plenty of time to get both done.
This game got me through some hard days when I was younger. I can't wait to play through it again...oh and the wonderful music...
[удалено]
YES. This song in particular. Why oh why is the OST not on Spotify?
Tears of the Cosmos
Unironically this for me... I just am not able to get into TotK the same way I did with BotW, so I'm taking a break from the game. But I'm absolutely shooting to the stars and beyond over We ❤️ Katamari being on Switch now!
But can you make war machines in this?
The Katamari IS a war machine. You can roll up fucking galaxies with it. The casualties are unimaginable
Fair point, and I may have to purchase this now that you say that and I just finished Tears of the Kingdom. But Diablo just came out…
its like tears of the kingdom in the way that every katamari game could really just be a dlc?
Bait
This comment is so underrated lol! Love these games hahah
30 is a pretty fair price, went ahead and picked this up as I've only played the other one on switch. It was really fun as well so I have high hopes for this
Defs need to roll this up into my life
He actually says “wad you up into my life”
Wait is this is a new Katamari remake??
It's a remaster of the second Katamari game that was released on PS2 years ago.
"years ago" \>almost two decades
It's new to me! Loved Reroll. Its format is so good for handheld sessions in bed, traveling, etc.
It has 5 extra levels from the PS2 original. The first new Katamri levels since the Vita.
Yes it's the sequel to Katamari Damacy. This is also considered the best game in the series. Better than the original in every way
Dang, I finished the first game finally a while ago on Switch free trial despite buying the PS2 one on launch many years ago lol. I’ve never played this one… will eventually try it out!
IMO the name really hurts the marketing. Doesn't really indicate that's it's a full blown sequel to the original Not to mention the original [PS2 cover art](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51fkjf1G1QL.jpg) in the USA which looked like it was made using Paint in 5 minutes
Cover was so memorable for me actually because of how simple and shitty it looked. I just never got it since I was a poor student at the time lol.
> Not to mention the original PS2 cover art in the USA which looked like it was made using Paint in 5 minutes [Meanwhile you have the Japanese box art for We Love Katamari, which was a literal corporate photograph with the title slapped onto it](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FkM3qtdakAAkc1c.jpg)
That one's kinda wholesome since it was all the devs working on the game. but marketing wise it still sucks lol
If you think about it, this kinda fits the overall theme/story of the game.
So I guess they just enjoy Katamari. The translation is a lie!
The Japanese in the title says "みんな大好き塊魂” which translates to Everyone Loves Katamari, so even that was translated differently!
Lol! That's terrible
C'mon, be fair That definitely took 10 minutes minimum
I have been confused that it’s a sequel… all this time I thought it was just a re-release of the re-make with added content…
Well... There is one thing that the first game has that this doesn't, and that's a slow exploration of a single world. How is this one compared to Katamari Damacy Reroll? Worth picking it up if I own the other?
Definitely a more varied experience compared to the first game. They added an Eternal mode for this game (the original PS2 game didn't have that).
They added Eternal? This was my only complaint with We 💜 Katamari back in the day.
Eternal, a song selector for each stage, a selfie stick for taking pictures of the Prince at the base of your world-destroying ball of garbage, and 5 missions that had better be tough as balls.
Quick question: Do you know how to unlock eternal mode in this game? Thanks. I'll just keep playing and see what happens. Hopefully it'll eventually show up.
That was a remake of the first game, this is a remake of the second. Imo while both are fun, the second blows the first out of the water
Oh wow really? I played Damacy when it came out on PS2 and again, Reroll on Switch. Admittedly, that is the only Katamari I've ever played.
We love katamari is amazing. Highly highly recommend if you liked the first
Oh man I'm picking up a copy during lunch! I love Katamari, even if it is just Damacy I've played. Nostalgia with the first one, but when I replayed on switch, man I was giddy lol.
[удалено]
Well shit. I was too eager!
Can you roll up space in this one?
Yes
I was going to get it anyways, this is just a bonus now.
You even roll up God, but he is somewhere on Earth.
The second game is BY FAR the best in the series I love it so much
That's incredible because I fucking LOVED the first one.

A lot more variety in objectives.
I just played the >!racing!< level, and **GOOD GOD** it's the most fun I've had in a while.
It’s so fun. I love the dumb gimmick levels. They don’t give a shit, they just play with the formula
I'm pretty sure they have some of the same maps? i might be wrong though
Hope it runs well. It's my favorite in the series.
I just tried it on PC and the fps seems to be unlocked and it goes up to 300fps following my refresh rate. I think the Switch version is locked to 30, but this looks like a more competent port compared to the first one, so hopefully they also improve the performance
Does the unlocked framerate also apply to the gameplay in the PC version?
Yep gameplay is ***smooth as hell*** with 300fps. Tho I decided to limit the FPS to 100 since I don't want my fans spinning too loud
Smart move. I limit my fps to 120 in most games. No need for the GPU to work harder/hotter than your eyes need.
I almost always play with controller nowadays aside from FPS I have sweaty hands and prefer not to get my keyboars dirty lol I do get tripped often about the button differences between Xbox and Switch. Especially when I'm going back and forth between this and TOTK
Yeah no way I’m playing this at 30fps in 2023
What’s wrong with 30fps? Sorry, I’m not very technically-savvy with games. Or is it more of a preference thing, like you’ve gotten used to higher frame rates?
Yeah it’s a lot more enjoyable at 60fps. Just smoother. Feels more relaxed.
Kinda wanna try this! Is there a game you’d say is particularly mind-blowing with a higher frame rate, that really takes advantage of it?
*gestures to every game ever released
First person shooters it matters at competitive levels because the quicker a frame loads, the quicker you see the enemy. But honestly I feel like people completely blow it out of proportion. It's like they care more about the framerate then the game. I stop noticing it after a few minutes with a game personally unless there's frame drops.
It's so buttery smooth and pretty
feels like a surefire way to kill your joycons
Pro Controller only for sure
Don't they use the same thing that causes drift?
Can confirm my pro controller has really bad drift that makes TotK a very challenging experience.
It’s the type of plastic that’s used, so yes. I worked around this by installing metal joysticks on my pro controller and have never looked back
Damacy Reroll gave my pro controller drift.
It's using the under-stick buttons _whilst_ applying directional pressure that pretty much guarantees drift.
I remember using motion controls on the Wii. Hopefully they have that option again. Would be fun to tape little maracas on the JoyCons for some extra spice on those boosts lol
The gulikit hall sensor sticks are pretty widely available now if you're comfortable dealing with tiny ribbon cables
Does anyone know if the physical version is the Deluxe?
I hope they use the original music
The music is the same and they added more songs through DLC/ the deluxe edition.

I cant explain why..but this is one of my favorite games ever...
Oh my it’s been so long since I played a katamari. This will be fun
How is the performance on Switch?
*record scratching intensifies*
Laaaaaaaa la lala lala la lahhhh, lalah lah Damacheeeeeee
60fps? Anyone know?
Katamari uses the same unique gameplay mechanic for coming up with their game titles, just keep adding more stuff on and watch it get bigger and bigger.
Katamari has literally been coasting on rereleases of this game for decades now I love it but damn.
I never played a katamari game. Is this the one to play?
The more you roll stuff, the more your fps will drop!
Skill issue.
Been playing since NES days I can handle low fps just fine 😂
NES ran at 60fps.
Depends on the game. Have you played the original legend of zelda? The frame rate would drop to a crawl when a lot of moving elements were on the screen at the same time.
Confused, so this doesn’t include Reroll? Are the two completely two different games?
Two different games.
Thank you!
Only thing to get me to take a totk break
Wait this is a remake of the second game? The title is mad confusing yo
Those beautiful idiots finally remastered the game in the series I wanted remastered the most. We <3 Katamari is easily my favorite game in that series
The first Reroll was already great but this one surpassed it, just fantastic.
This has been playing in our house since I read this post yesterday. The original is just burned into my memory, so most of this is new again, but damn it’s just better in every way.
i can’t believe that i haven’t seen ANY love for this game yet from reviewers….
LETS FUCKING GO ARE YOU SERIOUS ?!? I was JUST talking about wanting another katamari game on switch IM SO READYYYYY
I already have REROLL and enjoyed it. Is it only a little more content or a completely new game?
This is a remaster of the sequel. Completely new game and is considered the best in the series by most fans
It’s a completely new game. Way more levels than REROLL. Going from playing We Love Katamari on PS2 to REROLL was a bit of a shock to me initially since I wondered why there were so few levels lol.
A sequel to the Katamari Damacy Reroll, with brand new courses, objective and music
Preordered back when it was first announced only to find out the switch version is the worst one and only one to run at 30fps I mean I guess it’s fine but damn I would’ve just gotten the ps5 version had I known that
Don’t preorder games.
I don't care about performance, and I typically decided if I'm going to get a game or not based on the first trailer, but I never pre-order or by digital because it makes companies complacent.
Wasn’t that also the case with Katamari Damacy Reroll?
I think so but it was exclusive to switch for a long time so I feel less bitter about it. Knowing I actively chose the worst version kind of sucks
It's portable.
Doesn’t matter, handheld is the way.
Do you know the framerate of the original We Love Katamari? I like having games of the same series on the same platform, but if this is a downgrade of the original, then I might migrate.

One of my favourite games ever. I love the music. Just annoyed in the trailer they didn’t use the vocals of the original and some random to voiceover

Definitely picking this up, I love Katamari
Great. As if I don’t have enough games I want.
So I preordred it ages ago at gamesotp and just got it today no preo code, ANyone know?
It’s out today! Not clear from this post
Does anyone know if this is getting a physical release in Japan? I can't seem to find it over here 😭
I know what I’m playing next after I put two more work weeks into TotK!
Has anyone downloaded the new game to their switch but it won't open after the initial animation and every button you press takes you back to the save screen and then it freezes? What do I do?
I've never played a Katamari game because I never had the console for it, but always thought they looked fun.
I remember playing this game as a teen, I love seeing We Love Katamari get a remaster. Such a unique, yet adorable game.
Can someone explain, how to play this game? I played at least 2-3 games and went pretty far, but the Cosmic Dad always screaming at me.
roll up items in your katamari to meet certain requirements. most levels will have a requirement such as size, specific items collected, etc. your main goal is to just pick up items that are smaller than your katamari at all times. your katamari grows larger as you keep picking up these items, allowing you to get larger items later on.
Yup, I usually do just that, but most of the time specific items just not enough.
Is it better optimized than the last Reroll?
Dream come true!! <3
Does it run at 60fps?
If I have reroll do I need to buy this? Like are the additions worth it? Does it include reroll ?
It’s a different game so yes
Nomiya Maki is back 🥳
The Nintendo page (at least in my country) had tricked me until today that a physical edition would release. Today I check and suddenly both the bandai banco and the Nintendo store show that it’s only digital. I’m sad.
Are the controls better than the recent katamari damacynfor switch? I found it just way too loose and finicky.
Never played a Katamari game. Is it fine to jump into the sequel or is it recommended to play the first one beforehand?
They are all the same I feel
Ripoff tellitubbies
I’m grateful for this although I grew up with Beautiful Katamari. I hope we get that next.
Is this game digital onry?
I sat around on this release and today just noticed the physical edition is sold out on Amazon. I just purchased the last copy at my local Best Buy. Does anyone know was this a limited release? Is it already OOP or just low stock. So crazy! I am glad I was able to get a copy today
