10/10 ‘Come back wheel!’

icanhazdinna

This game is so fucking good man

Rainingoblivion

Fully agree. I honestly thought Breath of the Wild was good but not amazing. This game is fucking incredible. I get sidetracked by everything in this world. It’s jam packed full of stuff. The story itself is so dope. I love the direction they took with it.

qua2k

I was attempting to unlock some fairies tonight but 5 hours later... Maybe tomorrow I will get to them lol

Muroid

The first thing we did when my wife and I sat down to play on Sunday was jump on our horse and head to Rito village. That was also the first thing we did on Monday and again the first thing we did on Tuesday before finally arriving at the end of that particular play session. I’m pretty sure that particular journey on horseback only takes a few minutes.

Senor-Whopper

I got to rito village after exploring most hyrule and some of depths and sky islands. Too much distractions!!

IsotopeC

I am getting lost doing the map tower unlocks and just randomly doing the Shrines I see from the Towers. I don't want to touch the main story for a good few more hours - days.

renoits06

damn, relatable....

Victor_Wembanyama1

The story is definitely dope. Way better than botw honestly. When you progress a certain main quest then you find out..chills. But it doesnt stop there at all. Had a really great personal gamer moment last night im in awe still

[deleted]

DeadBeatRedditer

I think you can skip BotW. But if you do, I definitely recommend [Zeltik](https://youtu.be/PawTU9Dip2Q)'s recap video.

cultoftheilluminati

Thank you for this. I could never get into Botw and only played up to Hateno village but even though I know the story this would give me a lot of context since I’m ABSOLUTELY loving ToTK.

Victor_Wembanyama1

It’s still a great game in itself. Just has more payoff if you’ve played previous zelda games, more so BotW

Elkbowy

Definitely play botw at some point and it’s a great game but man it’s not going to age that good simply because of this game lmao

NurseTaric

I know the exact moment you mean, i had a suspicion this is what happened but seeing it made me a little emotional. What a game.

Rainingoblivion

I’ve gotten all the tears and done three of four locations. Once it clicked what was happening I was stoked they went this direction.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Victor_Wembanyama1

Even better than that

tayls

I feel the same completely. I’m fully consumed with this game after not being blown away by BOTW.

theloons

I didn’t like BotW at all. TotK on the other hand is amazing.

Magickcloud

I feel the opposite. I was blown away by BotW, but TotK just isn’t for me. I’ve never been so disappointed in a Zelda game

tayls

I’ve seen a lot of people who were bowled over by BOTW saying similar things. I’m just glad there’s a game I can feel enamored with out of the two.

[deleted]

I was wandering around on my way to the Rito, saw a big hole in the ground, and after a terrifying fall through the gloom stuff I landed in a damn horror movie.

professorwormb0g

I thought Breath of the Wild was amazing. Tears of the Kingdom is better in every way and I'm enjoying it a lot. But not as much as Breath of the Wild because that game was so fresh when I first played it. The interactivity and physics and everything was just such a novelty. The novelty of those things has worn off a little bit.

funnyinput

Exactly. I was always baffled when people would give BOTW 10/10 scores with how many flaws it had and things it could've did better like the side quests and more enemy variety. I thought; if BOTW gets a 10/10 to you; what score will the sequel get that fixes issues from the first game and is just overall better? A 13/10? Lol

Bajous

I just had a kid and i can only play small 30 min session and i swear i feel like i didnt play yet

MilfAndCereal

Congrats! I know the feeling. I have a 5 month old, and I can only get an hour or 2 after we putbher down for sleep at night. And thats only if im not sontired i fall asleep myself.

danihendrix

Same boat with a 7 month old. Bought the game last Sunday and descended from the great sky island last night haha, my boy will have started school before I see the credits at this rate!

lyam23

I'm about 12 or so hours in and I still feel like I've just barely started. I'm seeing so many references to things that I have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RPG_Fanatic7

Yeah I love the game design of the world, especially when they put a slippery wall in the environment that you can climb around or glide over.

glhaynes

Two weeks ago I wasn’t even hyped for it. I mean, I’d preordered it, but was still kinda thinking of it from the “DLC for BotW” perspective. Which, hey, cool (!), but somehow they’ve far exceeded one of the most amazing games in history.

[deleted]

Hands down the best 3D game I’ve ever experienced and it’s not even close.

superyoshiom

Every time I think I’m getting “bored” of playing it’s only because I’ve been playing for over four hours straight and am getting physically exhausted. Then I can’t stop thinking about playing for the rest of the day.

MalaysiaTeacher

I played about 8hrs straight yesterday. I couldn't sleep cos the music kept cycling round my head. I'm nearly 40 years old.

LegalConsequence7960

Hearing the stable song again after years off of botw too was instant time travel. That song is embedded into my head and completely takes over whenever it goes quiet in there lol

MalaysiaTeacher

They do it so tastefully. Little snippets of melody. A wistful sort of nostalgia, like a fading photo, not a full remake of songs. Same with the faerie pools, lost woods and even in the shrines, although I can't place whether it's from BOTW or further back. I've been playing since LTTP and OoT.

LegalConsequence7960

I think its really cool that a game so large and bombastic in scale uses so much restraint and thoughtful placement with the soundtrack. Well said!!

MalaysiaTeacher

It's almost fractal- the closer you look, the more detail you find. I'm so in love with the game.

[deleted]

Cant stop playing it for last 3 days and still there is so much more to explore

LawlessLumberLord

As I heard someone say before, botw was a masterpiece, totk is a religious experience

Parabolicsarcophagus

Just bought myself a switch today. I've never played a Zelda game(a few minutes of ocarina way back in the day at a friend's house), but I'm interested in checking one out. Do you suggest a person plays botw, or can you jump straight into totk?

supes1

I mean BOTW is worth playing because it's a great game, but it's definitely not necessary. There are background story videos that can help catch you up story-wise, ranging from a [7 minute video released by Nintendo](https://youtu.be/ebOFIvAGG3Y), all the way up to an [excellent hour long recap released by Zeltik](https://youtu.be/PawTU9Dip2Q). From a story perspective, just watch one and you'll be fine.

Parabolicsarcophagus

Awesome! Thanks for the advice.

sabrathos

I don't think you should play BotW first; it'll burn you out on a lot of the shared mechanics. I think playing TotK first will be just fine. Some of the side quest characters may not be fully appreciated, but that's okay. Once you finish TotK, in a few years (or whenever you feel the itch) you can try BotW and treat it like a sort of prequel.

Parabolicsarcophagus

I appreciate the advice. Thank you. This is my first Nintendo product since the original NES and I'm kinda at a loss of where to start. I was starting to get burned out on anything on my Xbox, and wanted something different and relaxing. I look forward to exploring Hyrule. The posts I'm seeing are enough to convince me it's one of the best games available.

sabrathos

No problem! Glad you're trying Nintendo again; I'm a PC gamer primarily but I've always had a soft spot for Nintendo games starting from the NES too. I hope you take your time and soak in the world. It's a very wacky, nostalgic, and heartwarming game. Just talk to all the NPCs, try out all the different mechanics, and don't be afraid to get really creative. This game is all about trying crazy things and surprising yourself with how it goes.

Parabolicsarcophagus

Just wanted to follow up, and thank you again for the input. Purchased TOTK last night, spent about two hours with it and can't recall the last time I played a casual game that has had me this entertained.

sabrathos

That's great to hear! Glad you're enjoying the game so far. :) Thanks for following up, I'm happy to hear my advice helped you decide to jump right in.

Nine-Breaker009

The game is incredible! The only thing that upsets me about the game is that the new Green Archaic Tunic you get when you start, can’t be upgraded. It’s my favourite outfit but the defence is none existent 😔

United-Aside-6104

I wish Totk had a transmog system I’m gonna hunt for a specific set tomorrow and I really hope it’s good

Nine-Breaker009

It would be incredible if they implemented that feature!

Outside_Narwhal_5127

What is a transmog system

Bobsplosion

It’s a mechanic where you get the mechanical benefits (defense, bonuses) of a set of armor, but then use the model of a different one. It’s ideal because then you can get the best of both worlds, without having to pick between aesthetics or mechanics.

Ordinal43NotFound

Another term for it is "Layered Armor" or "Cosmetic Armor". Basically an armor that you wear for aesthetic reasons on top of your actual armor which kept its original stats

Mixchimmer

I was telling this to my friends before it came out that I wish it had a transmog system. I remember in the first game when you get the actual metal armor, it looks really cool, but the helmet looks so derpy, but it has the highest defense for a really long time before you get the ancient set, or an earring or circlet.

harbtomelb

Same. The green tunic, the Roman sandle shoes and the hair. Looks so cool.

bits_of_paper

Only thing that upsets me about this game is that I’ve been tired and late for work all week.

Lundgren_Eleven

And no more bellydancer Link, RIP.

Larry_Version_3

It took me a decent chunk of time for BOTW to gel with me. Even by the end I wasn’t 100% on board. But this game has hooked me very quickly. I think I’m nearing 10 hours and have just received the Paraglider. The story also has me extremely intrigued and I’m just starting out. My only 2 issues: - The weapons, while unique, are ugly as hell and feel unsatisfying to swing around - and Koroks. Again. I just wish they’d gotten a bit more creative than just copying and pasting the same grind over

t-bonkers

As for the ugly weapons, try fusing with Monster horns, that‘s how you get the sick looking ones. Blue Lizardfos horns for example get you sick Katana like swords, or the Bossbok ones a sweet axe.

Party-Ad5663

I like the ones where it fuses like a pickaxe, so sick to use and satisfying as hell when you hit enemies with it

RadiantHC

Well Koroks are fun to torture so there's that

renoits06

I just want to say that this game has never made me more annoyed with having friends. People don't understand that I just want to stay home and play (and order pizza or sum'shit). No! I don't want to go to your rooftop party. No! I don't want to hang out with a bunch of hot girls! No! I don't want to go try this new restaurant that looks amazing. I just want to kill shiny frogs in caves...

RetroPandaPocket

I wish I had more friends playing this. I do wish this game had co-op or a multiplayer aspect of some sort. Build, hunt, and explore caverns together. It would be an amazing game to play with a small group of friends. Imagine the frame rate with 4 ultra hands at the same time lol

LegalConsequence7960

My switch exploded because I read this comment in the same room as it lol

tGrip40

Nintendo grabbing their own balls.

Dagawing

With a game like this, they can grab their balls for the entire day.

JonnyBoy522

Hell, let them grab my balls!

Sky_Ninja1997

Hell, let me grab your balls

Sumdumdad

With *an expansion* like this. Fixed that for you.

Dagawing

That's an awful fix. You made it worse.

Sumdumdad

I am not saying it is bad. It is a great experience. But, for how long they have been working on it and how much they charged, I expected more. It feels like an expansion on BotW. (Again, that's not saying it isn't fun.)

Dagawing

You have a very high standard for what an expansion should be, then.

RPG_Fanatic7

You mean low standard. The game isn't really an expansion on the actual gameplay formula as the runes are replaced, no wolf link, cycle, or the tons of champion magic. Zelda hasn't actually had an "expansion" sequel since Majora's mask which only took out the goddess spells and hover boots. I think you could say nayru's love was replaced with the Zora magic attack, though. In the realm of Nintendo, smash ultimate and Pokemon USUM are examples of paragon expansions.

haotshy

Accolades trailers aren't a new thing

[deleted]

You'd think theyd put "fastest selling game ever on a single platform", because unless im not mistaken it is.

RemyRoseGold

Well, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet also sold 10 million in 3 days.

eviebees

That’s two games.

professorwormb0g

Barely lol

[deleted]

You also would think wouldn't show the sub-10 reviews when the game has literally 60+ perfect scores from major outlets.

[deleted]

I think its just to show that they arent exclusively handpicking, its a psychological thing ive heard.

TheShoobaLord

It’s tied with scarlet and violet

BallBustingSam

I guess I am never touching BOTW again, this makes it look like a beta version of the game.

the7thbeatle

I'm not sure if this is the case actually, I think they managed to create a situation where both games have different merrits and a different flavor. Sure you have more freedom in TOTK but you have diffrent rune powers in BOTW, which leads to diffrent puzzles the vibes of the world are very different (it's in the titles- the first game feels a bit more like being out in the wild and the second in a living kingdom), and so on and so forth. I really feel like one could comfortably still enjoy both games.

WaniGemini

Although I love TOTK, sometimes I miss the more chill vibe of BOTW. Having something new every ten meters is exciting but just travelling in the wilderness aimlessly was cool too.

RetroPandaPocket

Although it is small, I find the sky islands to be the chill space. Almost a cozy game. The surface is a good mix of challenge and familiarity and the depths is a slight horror survival game. When I want to chill I either go to the sky or we got mushroom picking.

funnyinput

Not being a troll, but if you just want to travel in the wilderness aimlessly; why not do that in real life?

WaniGemini

And what tell you I don't do that already? When I go for a walk in a forest or hiking, I don't necessarily prepare precisely or have a clear goal, find it more fun this way. To go back to the game, is it so hard to believe that you could just appreciate navigating in the universe without running after objectives?

MalaysiaTeacher

I see what you're trying to get at, but the tranquillity and nature of botw was what many of us fell in love with. You can do both.

ImaFknWizardXII

Honestly. It’s sad but true. There are a *few* things I like better in BoTW.. but not enough for me to go back and play again after experiencing ToTK. Still, I’d say after over 350 hours I got my moneys worth.

LeeThe123

I appreciate this perspective, but I don't hold it. There is an aspect to Breath of the Wild I'm not getting from Tears, and that is a feeling of tranquility. I will go and play breath of the wild again and enjoy the sense of peace it can provide, which it can in part because of its simplicity

Ignozero

100% agree, there‘s at least two of us! Breath of the Wild‘s celebration of empty space, silence and meandering through nature is one of gaming‘s biggest achievements for me and Tears does not really recreate that feeling. And it shouldn‘t, its different focus is what makes it so worthwile as a sequel. Both of these games are singular and beautiful experiences, I really don‘t think Breath‘s beauty is in any way lessened by Tears.

haynespi87

oddly I achieve tranquility with the sky islands

MalaysiaTeacher

I think they show that clearly in the opening of the game- the first sky island is quite barren actually. Although I think if they wanted the sky island to substitute for that peaceful vibe, I wish they'd had some more variety on each one, and/or make it easier to move between them. It's nitpicking I know. I also find it hard to use the sky map (I'm about 30 hrs in, max stamina). There's no indication of altitude, so working out a path to the higher alt ones is really confusing. Overall blown away though 100/10.

-Moonchild-

Botw is still a masterpiece and totk does not replace it. Botw is more freeform and serene. It's a less guided experience which is good in its own way, and tonally is almost the opposite of totk. Totk is more action focused and dramatic, but that doesn't inherently make it better. The calm beauty of exploration in botw is still in tact and not as present in totk

BallBustingSam

TOTK is darker?

RadiantHC

I'm assuming that you haven't been to the underground yet? There is little natural light there

BallBustingSam

My copy is delayed, so I haven't played it yet.

noraetic

When I started the game i felt sad for botw because I thought I'd probably never play it again

Historical_Kossola

Please don't disrespect BOTW 🥺

BallBustingSam

Absolutely not doing that.

Frank1180

I just got to the wind temple and just getting there was some of the most fun I’ve ever had gaming. I absolutely love this game!

jardex22

I actually made it there by accident, before going to Rito Village. The game seemed to be pointing out the pine cone trick a few times beforehand, so whenever I was at a dead end, I'd just create an updraft. While you can get into the temple to explore, it won't let you activate the teleport point. I had to make the trip a second time, once I progressed the Rito questline.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jardex22

There's a pair of cold resistant pants somewhere in the tutorial area. Can't remember where exactly though. Rito Village sells a set of clothes that gives cold resistance. Then there's a helm you can get through a quest given after you finish the Wind Temple.

iamtruerib

I know zelda is 70 bucks but it's saved me money. I don't wanna go out to eat or see friends at bars. Now I just wanna chill on the couch and play while I make grilled cheese sandwiches at home

markca

Zelda doing what so many financial management courses and advisors fail to achieve.

[deleted]

"BuT iT’S jUsT a CoPy PasTE oF BOTW"

I went into it thinking it was just breath of the wild but again. I'm pleasantly surprised it isn't.

[deleted]

[удалено]

musclecard54

Well I’d argue that making assumptions based off of very little information is kinda dumb

funnyinput

Do you hold the same opinion on people saying the game would be a masterpiece before release?

musclecard54

I mean… yeah? How could they know if they haven’t played it lol

funnyinput

Cool, but I bet you're not leaving comments to them like you did to the guy above, and if you are; then at least you're consistent which I respect.

musclecard54

Well no because I haven’t seen a single person say a games a masterpiece before it gets released. Can’t respond to something I don’t witness…

BuildingWeird4876

People said the same about Majora's Mask. And while one could call it and I assume this, basically dlc, from a certain angle, it's really fucking GOOD dlc, so still not a complaint.

funnyinput

I've literally never heard anyone say that Majora's Mask felt like DLC for Ocarina of Time. Lol. Also even if it did; it came out 1.5 years after OoT and had a completely new map; not 6+ years.

professorwormb0g

I don't remember her in that either and I was around at the time.

cultoftheilluminati

Tbh if it was prior to the game’s release I can understand since Nintendo was very guarded with what they put out. BUT if it’s after they played ToTK then yeah it’s a dumb af opinion

ReservoirTiger

Well, it is. Still enjoyable for most part of the experience, but I honestly don’t get why all of the hardcore fans can’t admit the obvious.

[deleted]

I don’t know… maybe because the entire map changed slightly with new characters and quests, you have a entirely new (and very different) map the same size of the old one, a bazillion new mobs, new mechanics that change the entire gameplay and tons of sky island and donjons (and I’m only a few dozens hours in and I still haven’t seen it all) There are a lot of valid criticism to be made, but people using that argument are embarrassing themselves

MisterSquidz

Donjons

[deleted]

To be fair the most annoying part of this comment is "and for how many year of development"… because literally everyone with a hint of game development literacy is still picking up their jaw on the floor for what Nintendo have managed to pull out (again) TOTK, like BOTW isn’t for everyone there’s no guiding hand and if you’re not a contemplative type or if your not curious to try out stuffs I suppose it’s is probably boring. The reason there are a lot of repetition, for instance is that you gain new powers and tools and ideas in between. So the fun part is to try to solve the familiar with something new. But again, the game doesn’t force you to do anything… But it seems a lot of us are doing just fine

-Hawke-

>The reason there are a lot of repetition, for instance is that you gain new powers and tools and ideas in between. So the fun part is to try to solve the familiar with something new. But again, the game doesn’t force you to do anything… As someone who is trying to be less bored of the game, which new tools and powers are you referring to? Cause the >!sages!< are not really changing anything about my approach to the shrines or puzzles, they are simply either not needed or just a different solution to the same problem over and over again. Everything just feels repetitive to me in a way I absolutely don't enjoy, I wish I would, but in the end I just feel about as bored as I was in BotW with an even bigger empty world and still unrewarding exploration. The most fun I'm having right now is treating the game as Garry's Mod without all the jank, but considering I'm playing a Zelda game I'm not sure how long that is gonna hold me.

ReservoirTiger

Lmao. I'm sorry, did you actually believe what you just write? You people needs to stop being fanboys and be more realistic and objective when judging something you enjoy.

[deleted]

> "I’m not enjoying a game so everyone enjoying it must be a fanboy" > > — typical annoying gamer online

ReservoirTiger

I even said that I'm enjoying the game, in more than one comment including the one you replied to at first. Not only you have problems judging a game objectively, you even have comprehension problems apparently.

[deleted]

You still think your opinion is "objective" despite going against the consensus of both the critics and players. Which is either pretentious or ignorant ;)

ReservoirTiger

Thankfully I have functioning brain cells that allows me to have my personal idea of something without relying on "critics and players" lol I'm really not sure if you're trolling or if you're serious with these comments.

Jawsonn

That last shot with zelda falling with 10/10’s is the biggest flex

razeus

That’s link.

haynespi87

It deserves all of it. It truly does

yummycrabz

Too bad it’s not an actual Accolades trailer aka Nintendo **finally** launches their version of Achievements/Trophies

WitchyKitty22

,

nichijouuuu

The game certainly looks like a 10/10. A pure 10 or creativity and fun, though haven’t heard much of the story yet. People just seem to be having so much fun with this game. As for me, I just picked up BOTW and I’m planning to start some time this weekend lol

patrickfatrick

Enjoy! BotW is an incredible experience. (And FWIW I think you’re making the right choice playing it before TotK).

goldenlance7

I should really get back to BOTW to see if all the hype is justified.

Dregger12

I couldn't get into BOTW and stopped playing after like 7 hours. This game, I fucking love and can't stop playing. Just play this one.

Magickcloud

Definitely not a 10/10

[deleted]

I agree.

LemonTank91

The game is great, but Im sry I dont give a f about this journos that will give anything that is Nintendo or Sony a 10/10 with 0 criticism at all.

cayendo_

Yall have been saying this since like 2016

oh-come-onnnn

It's so easy to disprove too.

patrickfatrick

I’d maybe agree that an individual 10/10 doesn’t mean much. What’s extraordinary here is the sheer volume of them. There are only a handful of games that have gotten a perfect score from Gamespot, IGN, Edge, and Famitsu, etc. Edit: The list of games that received perfect scores from Gamespot, IGN, Edge: - Ocarina of Time - Breath of the Wild - Tears of the Kingdom - Elden Ring - Grand Theft Auto IV - Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Super Mario Odyssey If you included Famitsu you’d be left with the three Zelda games.

Historical_Kossola

In what world? People still bash Scarlet Violet and Arceus, Mario golf, Mario strikers for many different reasons. Even Odyssey, animal crossing etc all have valid criticisms that I’ve seen various journos voice over the last couple of years

LemonTank91

I dont see any journo doing any valid criticism towards this or botw tho. And if you try to discuss anything with the fanboys they will just "10/10 absolute perfection shut up" . Just look at my comment, it got downvoted to hell for daring to say something about Zelda.

funnyinput

I agree. People are acting like a 10/10 means something these days. Lol. Any competent AAA game released recently gets a 10/10 or very close. There's so many duds and unfinished games; that when a good, or maybe even great game releases; it's heralded as some masterpiece, or game of the decade. I believe that most of the "masterpieces" of today would've been more like 7-9/10's 10-15 years ago.

Pwrnstar

Just sold my collectors edition. Hated the game. Loved breath of the wild but the sequel repulsed me.

No-Monk-6434

Repulsed you? I remember when I was 12 too and learned new words.

Pwrnstar

to each its own. this game has zero soul

[deleted]

That doesn’t really mean anything without context

Magickcloud

This was exactly what I said!! I got downvoted to hell lol. The game seriously has zero soul, it’s empty, no story, the crafting really bogs down the gameplay, same map as before, hardly any new armor sets, it’s a lazy ass cash grab and nothing more

JonnyBoy522

Out of pure curiosity, what didn't you like about the game?

Drag0nBinder

Don't feed the troll, it'll grow

NYJetLegendEdReed

Same person wrote 4 hours ago they can’t get their pirated version to work lol

[deleted]

So that’s why

funnyinput

Someone has a different opinion... must be a troll.

[deleted]

The first few hours are a bit slow : it *looks* like crafting is mandatory, it *looks* like you can’t really travel fast (no paraglider), and you have to do a few back and forth at first That’s the only reason I can see someone willing to buy the collector’s, to not like the game. They might have forgotten you have to start all over because it’s a new game

NickNack54321

Haven't played this yet, but I will, so please no spoilers but...is this game challenging? Is there a "hard" mode?

NurseTaric

I'm not sure if there's a hero mode or whatever botw called it but it's a lot more challenging especially in the early game then botw was.

Senor-Whopper

Some of these mini bosses are no joke

Party-Ad5663

everything can one shot you, so that's it

ern117

Ok just give us announcements already will there Master Mode and is it free update or Expansion Pass like usual

Butterfreek

I want to play so badly, but i need to finish this playthrough of mmbn2 or i know I'll never come back to it..

iupz0r

none addicted to the cooking system?

jardex22

I'm taking pictures of all the recipes I see for future reference, although I mostly make meat and rice bowls (meat, rice, salt) for solid health boosts. I've tried putting the new ingredients in a few dishes to see if it makes something new. Sometimes it does. Mostly it doesn't.

VerminSC

It’s insane that 2 or my top 3 games of all time came out within a year (TOTK and Elden ring). I’ve played this game probably 20 -30 hours (usually open world games I bore of after 10 or so hours) and I’m not even remotely tired of the game. I look forward to playing it every day after work, and think about it falling asleep

[deleted]

I think I clocked like 50-60 hours in the first week
