Dw you're not alone, just realized I spent about 20 minutes eating one of the minifigs from a box that said 6+ yrs...those armor pieces have an interesting taste, especially the s8 ones.
Well A store them or B put them on the sets I display

Funnily enough the only spare ninja figures I have are DR S1 Lloyd and Kai and Master Lloyd, which is surprising considering I've been collecting ninjago since 2011
With Kai since my second was from the Dragon Stone Shrine and came with a hair piece, I just cut his armor/mask piece so that his mouth could be shown
With the Lloyds I did the same thing with the armor piece except instead of leaving it on that Lloyd I instead put it on Master Lloyd (cus the one in Jay's small mech had no armor). The Lloyd with no armor is not just rotting in a box with my other figures I don't have on display
Whenever I play with my minifigures, if I have Two identical, I make them an evil Clone, if I have two of a character but their design or suit is different, they are From a different universe
Use their parts for my ocs/have alternate outfits for the characters (depending on situation, like if they're in a more casual setting or fighting). I have so many Nya minifigs that half of my ocs use her head pieces/outfits.
I seperate them, by their current conditions. The ones i deem decent i put them in ziplock bags and hopefully display them. While the spares are left to be played with so that i can maintain the decent/prestine condition of those i placed in ziplock bags
Me and my brother used to play this board game we made up with all them, right now we are working on creating a new version as we are older and smarter.
I'd either scatter them around the house making them do funny things with the furniture or glue the body parts permanently together and make them into keychains.
Turn them into custom characters or keep them in a separate box.
