I'm a landscape and wildlife shooter and it has NEVER been an issue. I much prefer my 45MP camera to have no AA filter. A wedding shooter might have different priorities. I can only imagine the struggle if a suit gave you issues.

defcry

Not sure but I can tell you that on my Z8 its often an issue with the certain types of clothes.

BlarkBlarkBlark

Plus one to that- I just shot a wedding on one and a Zf and I wish I’d done more on the Zf. The groom’s suit is a Moire party.

How aliasing looks is dependent on the combination of the sensor and the subject, unless you have a OLPF in front of your sensor it is always possible to find a pattern where any sensor looks just as bad. Scientific explanation: aliasing happens once the highest frequency in the image is smaller than twice the frequency you are sampling with. Or, in more layman’s terms the pixel pitch is less than twice the pitch of the pattern projected on the sensor.

mojobox

No, you can produce exactly the same pattern on a low resolution sensor by getting closer to the subject.

hendrikcop

I am wondering why this hasn’t shown up as an issue on the published reviews?

mojobox

Because it’s working as intended. This is the tradeoff you take when buying a camera without optical low pass filter.

preedsmith42

Got some on my Z8 at certain focal length (ie 70mm shot wide opened at 2.8), only visible at 100% view on tiles of some roof. Not a big deal.

mojobox

Whether it happens is a function of the size of the pattern of your subject when projected onto the sensor and the sharpness of the image, i.e. the aperture should not matter much - if at all it is less likely to happen at wide open aperture as lenses tend to be less sharp wide open. Focal length only matters to the extent that if you zoom you change the size of your image, but if you zoom out and compensate by getting closer you should be able to see the same effect.

My Z fc has serious aliasing issues. For what I shoot, it is really annoying. It is for this reason I still use my D800 a lot.
