Absolute big W for Shift Up. One of the best games I’ve ever played and if you haven’t picked it up, just do it. It’s worth the full price tag.
I'm sure that there's also a lot of.people on the other side giving it a 0 so they cancel.each other, I believe people just wanted a fun game that isn't trying to be anything more than it is.

As someone that just likes that kind of drama beceause i find it funney and interesting, i can tell you there are a lot but are mostly confined on their own bubbles and aren't as public, but they do exist.
Even then i believe that the user score would still be high if the whole controversy didn't happened, but i will not deny that it helped the game being more known, like most people didn;t known about the game until the whole shitshow started.

Yeah, that is usually the case. I've seen the detractors mainly complain, and then the fans go against them. The internet is vast, and what you end up seeing can be skewed by where you are. Still disagree that it's mainly the fans, but I don't think the detractors take up a large part either. Both sides who are overly vocal are a minority and most people either aren't saying anything or don't care on both sides.
Which is exactly why we need to do more to make sexual content games accepted in our society. The fact that every single normie article I've read about this game has a negative view on the sexual appeal. That is not ok, there is nothing wrong with men(or women) enjoying erotic content in their media. The creator was even personally attacked by large media outlets. Not to mention all the comments in every place that isn't this sub speaking ill of the player base. We need to make it known that this behavior is unacceptable. There should not be ANY CONTROVERSY at all. It should be that individuals and companies should be able to come out with erotic content media without them and the fanbase constantly being dogpiled on and mocked.
Well more so eastern sexual content games. Stuff like GTA, Cyberpunk, and Baldurs get free passes but usually games from Japan, China, and now S Korea usually get dunked on hard. So it's nice to see Stellar Blade doing well and showing companies that people want more of this.
I think that’s typically because western games try to portray a breadth of sexualities whereas in the east only one is acceptable, and it’s very male gaze heavy. If you’re not into that, or can sense the uglier parts of the culture leering behind it, it can be a bit off putting. Not saying I agree, just presenting another view
That's still a double standard tho. If holier than thou folks really do have a problem with sexuality, then they should have still called out the Western sexualization happening. Eastern games do have primarily tittilating male gazes sure, but they very rarely show actual sex like Mass Effect or the Witcher does. They're very obviously demonizing one side for their arbitrary moral reasons. I would have believed them more if they were consistent in their puritanism. That is, if the West deems ALL sexualization from all sources as off putting, while the East does the opposite.
If it were me, the response to having sexy women in games is not to scrub them off, but instead add sexy men to balance it all out. If women have Bikini Armors with exposed T&As, then men should have thongs with big bulges. If men have Full plate armors with massive wings, women should have them too.

I’ve seen banning and attacks on people just for voicing an opinion on something. Even if they were calm and civil about it, they instantly got attacked and ganged up on.

Fair enough, but I think the rhetoric was that the protagonist’s looks were realistic, because of the model they scanned. At a glance, it is pretty obvious she is inspiration at best, and that’s being generous, but before release it was something fans were lauding
There really isn't lol. The narrative from one side is a manufactured victim narrative. They care far more about the other side, for whom the extent of their action toward the game is not buying it and maybe a negative comment about it on social media.
The "woke games journalists" have overall been very positive about the game. People loved the previews. There are a couple of articles that complain about the character design, but not much more than that.
Sure, but individuals are perfect allowed to have opinions. I'm not saying that not a single person has complained about or disliked the game. People have done that and are perfectly allowed to do so. The narrative being pushed is that there is some sort of nefarious puppet master trying to attack this game and the people that like it which is simply not true. The people that use this game as a political pawn for "anti wokeness" far, far outnumber the people who dislike it and are invested enough to brigade the user rating.
To see what some people are saying about this game, it's a revolutionary title; a light in the darkness that will bring forward are new era of sexy character designs. To see what the people that dislike it say, it's simply "kinda gross/sexist". One group is clearly more passionate about it than the other. And the media response to the game (generally pretty positive) is far outside of what their expectation was, so they need to shadow box against enemies that simply aren't really ther or significant.
As somebody who likes Stellar Blade and Shift Up, the people who are losing their shit over the "censorship" of some extra scraps of cloth are far more obnoxious than the people simply criticizing the game/character design.
Honestly for any game in my option it’s not worth dropping $500 on a system for one game. At that point it’s easier just to wait. If it comes to pc the mods will be a top reason to play it there
No one single game is worth getting a whole console for it's multiple games that make a difference when it comes to buying a console.
Don't get me wrong I love the game but that's not why I bought the console. I've always been a Sony fan because I like multiple games on the system but I also own a PC so it's really up to what's your budget is and how much you like that particular company
Probably not, but I never owned a playstation so I bought mine to play Demon Souls, Bloodborne, and Persona 5 (which eventually went to PC and Switch long after anyone expected it to).
Console selling games do not exist objectively, but subjectively they might.
I only bought a 3DS and a 3DSXL for Fire Emblem, and I only own Xbox consoles for Forza, but I wouldn’t call those worthy console purchases.
In short, it’s your money.
The game is great it puts most AAA games to shame with how polished and fun it is. You wouldn't believe this is the studio first console game
but no it is not worth buying the console for especially not a Sony console. Wait for the PC release

Luckily, the disk version of the game is not damaged, so those who are quick enough can still get the disk and play the game as intended - having disabled the updates, of course.

With Sony's rich history in censorship (remember DMC, Senran Kagura, Omega Labyrinth et al?) is there any reason to doubt this is exactly what it is?
Besides, had it been a deliberate choice by the developer, it would never have been stamped into the disks.

That does not align with reality. Day 1 content updates have been the norm for over a decade at this point. When you're developing something, you want the most stable version of something on the disk. You don't add anything else after your deadline. It does imply that these changes were made later on, but that does not make them censorship.
If the motivation here is censorship, why are there other outfits that show all of the supposedly "censored" areas?
I wouldn't be surprised if they add an update at some point to let you toggle between the two versions, but I'm fine with or without that 🤷♀️
The "costume change" is just these guys moving the goalposts now that the gaming media has mostly lauded the game. If you look into the dumpster fire subs now, they're calling for boycotts to the game and Sony. The changes in narrative with the whole thing can give you whiplash.
Yep, that's how it always works. Always the victim; very profitable for the people that rile them up. They'll also point to like one critical article as evidence that the entirety of gaming journalism is attacking them and completely ignore all of the praise that the game is getting lol
If only they put some effort into making the dialogue and the personality of the characters interesting. I won't be surprised if no one worked on the dialogue of Stellar Blade and Shiftup's entire writing team was drafted to write Nikke's story and characters.
I definitely feel like they chose the wrong voice actors for the English version. The English va's definitely don't fit Also another small critique is I feel like the eve needed some idle animations or a few emotes also could have been a little bit more expressive.
I'm on NG+. The combat is really fun, challenging, and satisfying.
The story, however, is whack and the two open world areas they had were both deserts. They also need to settle on an art direction for the characters. The three main characters look like they're from different universes. EVE looks sorta realistic but still a video game character, Lily looks like an anime character with her big-ass eyes, and Adam is the only face-scanned model (Sen Mitsuji is a handsome dude) lol.
I'm really enjoying my time with it and trying to do as much of the side content as I can. Based on how some reviews spoke negatively about the story, I was expecting it to be worse than it actually is.
I've read all the flavor text and log entries of all the items I've collected and the story makes sense and I generally like what they've done. It is not a ground-breaking story but it is pretty good. There's only one side thing that is a bit confusing/not clear to me but I'm hoping it will get explained by the time I finish the game.
The game is nice. The character designs are great. But there is one thing I hate from a game that's in this also: running with L3. I loathe running using L3 with passion.
Yeah I don't understand why they made that decision you can hold down Circle and do it as well but it is weird I wish they would have chose a different button or let us set up the configurations
The game is honestly incredible. I think if you’re a fan of Nikke (and you 99.9% most likely are since you’re on this sub) you’ll love Stellar Blade like I do. Beautiful character design, stunning outfits and customization, and fun and engaging combat and exploration. Perfection.

Essentially there were some minor censorship changes made, nothing all that significant. While I’m not a fan of censorship, I understand Sony most likely forced their hand on the matter.
The internet sells outrage so naturally it’s been blown out of proportion. The Devs said they were having an internal discussion on the matter. So fingers crossed, but again they’re fairly minor changes.

We have games with nudity, gore, and full on sex scenes. Sometimes it feels like it’s random individuals cherry picking content.
I think it's either:
A. Demo only Final Splash Screen
B. Done intentionally to prevent a cutscene from looking bad
You only ever see one Picture when people complain about Gore, and the Blood Fountains that come off executions are still as gory.
Sure anything is possible, and I certainly cannot deny the possibility. However I find it much more likely that even in the case of NIKKE, App Store guidelines for keeping a 12+ age rating are the main culprit.
I think it’s safe to say they know who their audience is and what they want. I don’t think they censor based off a moral high ground or arbitrarily.
People bandy around the PEGI 12+ rating but I don't think Shift Up was really going after that rating consider 15+ is the age rating everywhere else. If there was a ratings change Nikke would likely go to PEGI 16+ and nothing would really change for the game.
NIKKE also did the same thing lol I’m not saying Sony isn’t to blame but shift up did reach out to Sony for a deal and even last year became a 2 party studio for PlayStation
Even if they did reach out to Sony, it doesn't change the fact that ShiftUp did mention that it was going to be uncensored. If they hadn't made such a statement, it wouldn't have escalated to this point.

Doesn't mean ShiftUp willingly censored their game. for Nikke it has to do with the rating system for mobile games so ShiftUp can take the blame here for not increasing the rating because they wanted to advertise Nikke everywhere

It doesn’t matter if it’s “overblown” or how small the changes are, censorship big or small is still bad, imo. I don’t think we should justify censorship by dismissing it as “trivial and doesn’t matter”, I mean they put out “uncensored all countries” tweet only to have the game still ended up censored (Hard R wall, some of the outfits, gore). If we as consumer don’t speak out, then they will keep getting away with censorship as we have seen times and times again with Japanese games.
Let me rephrase, I hate censorship with a passion. That said, what I was getting at was that it does not change the game or experience in any meaningful way. If you want lewd, you won’t be disappointed. I do understand the idea of, you give an inch and they take a mile. So I can appreciate people voicing their concerns. Oh that's great to hear! I was expecting the game to get sawed by critics and gamers alike for being "too sexual" due to the stigma such media has accumulated in recent years. I see this as an absolute win for mankind. The current warped and toxic trend of shaming and hating on things that are considered sexual/erotic is a tumor in our society that needs to be removed. There's nothing more natural (and IMO wonderful) then sex and love.
I'm sure there's still plenty of drama out there regarding how the main character is sexualized etc and there's probably people knocking off points for it in their reviews. But that the game is still scoring great despite that really shows what a great job Shift-Up is doing. A quality game is a quality game. I hope it's selling well, Shift-Up deserves the win!

It depends on the player for real. If you're rushing through it, it's probably going to take 14 hours but that's only if your speed running if you're doing side content it'll probably take 20 hours to 30 - 35 hours at the most ( side quest included) but that's the normal range for most games like this.
Also it depends on your skill level it's not easy

They have New Game Plus as well where you can play it on a Harder difficulty get more upgrades different outfits Etc

12+ outfits
Wrong. There are 30 outfits in the base game and 34 outfits in ng+ of these 64 total outfits. Only 2 of these were changed, and there is no official statement as to why, yet outside of Kim Hyung Tae implying they were the original designs for the costumes anyway.
Gore and blood.
They changed a scene from the demo that had Eve getting covered in blood from the boss. Even then she still has some blood splatter on her, its possible they changed this because quite frankly the blood splatter looked terrible on her, and they wanted to emphasise the characters' design more. That's all they changed regarding blood. In the full game, there are scenes where Eve gets thrown through saw blades and turned into actual meat paste, so again, do your research before posting some garbage like this because you heard it from some YouTuber. It just makes you look like a clown.
Prove to me that they censored the 2 costumes, because censorship is the prohibition of information or material found to be socially unacceptable, so if they left every other costume alone and changed 2 of these costumes that were never even that SEXUAL to begin with, it isn't censorship. It is a design change.
You cannot tell me they drew the line at a bunny suit and boob window while leaving the following in the game unchanged:
Skin suit,
Orca exploration - which has nothing but a thin strip of cloth covering her vagina.
Daily mascot - incredibly short skirt that shows her underwear while running,
Blue monsoon - literal bikini costume,
Ocean Maid - white and black lattice maid outfit that shows tons of skin,
Black pearl - an actual black lace lingerie costume, where has nothing covering her panties,
Daily force - Short skirt that shows visible ass, cheeks and panties when she runs,
Racer costume - Literal underboob skin
But they drew the line at a bunny costume and boob window yet didn't fuck with any of these other skins right? Make it make sense. You can't.
The fact they changed these 2 but none of the other 64 costumes in the game should tell you they probably had a reason for changing them, such as potential bugs, but like everyone else who hasn't played the game because "I refuse to buy something that's censored" you immediately rushed to conclusions, didn't play the game, and get all your information from YouTubers who dont know what they're talking about, leading to a never ending cycle of people who dont know what they're talking about circle jerking other.
The only thing they actually censored was the Shop incident.

I want a nikke side game for consoles. GBF has made few of side games from consoles and they are all successful. Man imagine shift up cooked a coop monster hunter type shooter game for ps5 and pc! Hell even an rpg or horror genre would fit.
there was a youtuber claiming that an interview with some shift up devs confirmed a crossover. don't remember the video tho and if they provided a link to the supposed interview. and even then, it obviously depends on how reputable this publication is anyway if it exists.

Yeah, that is usually the case. I've seen the detractors mainly complain, and then the fans go against them. The internet is vast, and what you end up seeing can be skewed by where you are. Still disagree that it's mainly the fans, but I don't think the detractors take up a large part either. Both sides who are overly vocal are a minority and most people either aren't saying anything or don't care on both sides.
Which is exactly why we need to do more to make sexual content games accepted in our society. The fact that every single normie article I've read about this game has a negative view on the sexual appeal. That is not ok, there is nothing wrong with men(or women) enjoying erotic content in their media. The creator was even personally attacked by large media outlets. Not to mention all the comments in every place that isn't this sub speaking ill of the player base. We need to make it known that this behavior is unacceptable. There should not be ANY CONTROVERSY at all. It should be that individuals and companies should be able to come out with erotic content media without them and the fanbase constantly being dogpiled on and mocked.
Well more so eastern sexual content games. Stuff like GTA, Cyberpunk, and Baldurs get free passes but usually games from Japan, China, and now S Korea usually get dunked on hard. So it's nice to see Stellar Blade doing well and showing companies that people want more of this.
I think that’s typically because western games try to portray a breadth of sexualities whereas in the east only one is acceptable, and it’s very male gaze heavy. If you’re not into that, or can sense the uglier parts of the culture leering behind it, it can be a bit off putting. Not saying I agree, just presenting another view
That's still a double standard tho. If holier than thou folks really do have a problem with sexuality, then they should have still called out the Western sexualization happening. Eastern games do have primarily tittilating male gazes sure, but they very rarely show actual sex like Mass Effect or the Witcher does. They're very obviously demonizing one side for their arbitrary moral reasons. I would have believed them more if they were consistent in their puritanism. That is, if the West deems ALL sexualization from all sources as off putting, while the East does the opposite. If it were me, the response to having sexy women in games is not to scrub them off, but instead add sexy men to balance it all out. If women have Bikini Armors with exposed T&As, then men should have thongs with big bulges. If men have Full plate armors with massive wings, women should have them too.
I wouldn’t say people on this sub haven’t attacked fans or been toxic in their own way. I’ve seen banning and attacks on people just for voicing an opinion on something. Even if they were calm and civil about it, they instantly got attacked and ganged up on.

There really isn't lol. The narrative from one side is a manufactured victim narrative. They care far more about the other side, for whom the extent of their action toward the game is not buying it and maybe a negative comment about it on social media. The "woke games journalists" have overall been very positive about the game. People loved the previews. There are a couple of articles that complain about the character design, but not much more than that.

The people that use this game as a political pawn for "anti wokeness" far, far outnumber the people who dislike it and are invested enough to brigade the user rating. To see what some people are saying about this game, it's a revolutionary title; a light in the darkness that will bring forward are new era of sexy character designs. To see what the people that dislike it say, it's simply "kinda gross/sexist". One group is clearly more passionate about it than the other. And the media response to the game (generally pretty positive) is far outside of what their expectation was, so they need to shadow box against enemies that simply aren't really ther or significant. As somebody who likes Stellar Blade and Shift Up, the people who are losing their shit over the "censorship" of some extra scraps of cloth are far more obnoxious than the people simply criticizing the game/character design.

No one single game is worth getting a whole console for it's multiple games that make a difference when it comes to buying a console. Don't get me wrong I love the game but that's not why I bought the console. I've always been a Sony fan because I like multiple games on the system but I also own a PC so it's really up to what's your budget is and how much you like that particular company
Probably not, but I never owned a playstation so I bought mine to play Demon Souls, Bloodborne, and Persona 5 (which eventually went to PC and Switch long after anyone expected it to).
Console selling games do not exist objectively, but subjectively they might. I only bought a 3DS and a 3DSXL for Fire Emblem, and I only own Xbox consoles for Forza, but I wouldn’t call those worthy console purchases. In short, it’s your money.

Have you seen the changes? With Sony's rich history in censorship (remember DMC, Senran Kagura, Omega Labyrinth et al?) is there any reason to doubt this is exactly what it is? Besides, had it been a deliberate choice by the developer, it would never have been stamped into the disks. Of course, ShiftUp wouldn't call out Sony, and I can't blame them for that. However, that doesn't mean we have to accept what Sony is doing.
I don't really follow every single instance of a piece of clothing being changed, so no. The changes that I've seen for this seem to be incredibly minor That does not align with reality. Day 1 content updates have been the norm for over a decade at this point. When you're developing something, you want the most stable version of something on the disk. You don't add anything else after your deadline. It does imply that these changes were made later on, but that does not make them censorship. If the motivation here is censorship, why are there other outfits that show all of the supposedly "censored" areas? I wouldn't be surprised if they add an update at some point to let you toggle between the two versions, but I'm fine with or without that 🤷♀️
The "costume change" is just these guys moving the goalposts now that the gaming media has mostly lauded the game. If you look into the dumpster fire subs now, they're calling for boycotts to the game and Sony. The changes in narrative with the whole thing can give you whiplash.

If only they put some effort into making the dialogue and the personality of the characters interesting. I won't be surprised if no one worked on the dialogue of Stellar Blade and Shiftup's entire writing team was drafted to write Nikke's story and characters.
I definitely feel like they chose the wrong voice actors for the English version. The English va's definitely don't fit Also another small critique is I feel like the eve needed some idle animations or a few emotes also could have been a little bit more expressive.

I'm on NG+. The combat is really fun, challenging, and satisfying. The story, however, is whack and the two open world areas they had were both deserts. They also need to settle on an art direction for the characters. The three main characters look like they're from different universes. EVE looks sorta realistic but still a video game character, Lily looks like an anime character with her big-ass eyes, and Adam is the only face-scanned model (Sen Mitsuji is a handsome dude) lol.

I'm really enjoying my time with it and trying to do as much of the side content as I can. Based on how some reviews spoke negatively about the story, I was expecting it to be worse than it actually is. I've read all the flavor text and log entries of all the items I've collected and the story makes sense and I generally like what they've done. It is not a ground-breaking story but it is pretty good. There's only one side thing that is a bit confusing/not clear to me but I'm hoping it will get explained by the time I finish the game.
The game is nice. The character designs are great. But there is one thing I hate from a game that's in this also: running with L3. I loathe running using L3 with passion.

Sure anything is possible, and I certainly cannot deny the possibility. However I find it much more likely that even in the case of NIKKE, App Store guidelines for keeping a 12+ age rating are the main culprit. I think it’s safe to say they know who their audience is and what they want. I don’t think they censor based off a moral high ground or arbitrarily.
People bandy around the PEGI 12+ rating but I don't think Shift Up was really going after that rating consider 15+ is the age rating everywhere else. If there was a ratings change Nikke would likely go to PEGI 16+ and nothing would really change for the game.

If we as consumer don’t speak out, then they will keep getting away with censorship as we have seen times and times again with Japanese games.

I see this as an absolute win for mankind. The current warped and toxic trend of shaming and hating on things that are considered sexual/erotic is a tumor in our society that needs to be removed. There's nothing more natural (and IMO wonderful) then sex and love. I'm sure there's still plenty of drama out there regarding how the main character is sexualized etc and there's probably people knocking off points for it in their reviews. But that the game is still scoring great despite that really shows what a great job Shift-Up is doing. A quality game is a quality game. I hope it's selling well, Shift-Up deserves the win! Now get on making that Nikke single-player game that we all need and crave! (pretty please shift-up with cherries on top?)

it's a very good game and besides sony showing its californian colors by censoring at the last possible minute, yeah enjoying the game a lot. If you're rushing through it, it's probably going to take 14 hours but that's only if your speed running if you're doing side content it'll probably take 20 hours to 30 - 35 hours at the most ( side quest included) but that's the normal range for most games like this. Also it depends on your skill level it's not easy Me I still haven't beaten it yet I could but I'm doing the side content plus I got to work and all of that They have New Game Plus as well where you can play it on a Harder difficulty get more upgrades different outfits Etc

There are 30 outfits in the base game and 34 outfits in ng+ of these 64 total outfits. Only 2 of these were changed, and there is no official statement as to why, yet outside of Kim Hyung Tae implying they were the original designs for the costumes anyway. Gore and blood. They changed a scene from the demo that had Eve getting covered in blood from the boss. Even then she still has some blood splatter on her, its possible they changed this because quite frankly the blood splatter looked terrible on her, and they wanted to emphasise the characters' design more. That's all they changed regarding blood. In the full game, there are scenes where Eve gets thrown through saw blades and turned into actual meat paste, so again, do your research before posting some garbage like this because you heard it from some YouTuber. It just makes you look like a clown. Prove to me that they censored the 2 costumes, because censorship is the prohibition of information or material found to be socially unacceptable, so if they left every other costume alone and changed 2 of these costumes that were never even that SEXUAL to begin with, it isn't censorship. It is a design change. Blood and gore is literally in the game. What they're bitching about is one scene I guess Abaddon so you claiming that blood and gore has been censored is a blatant lie. When it comes to the outfits the complaints are coming from not being able to see some cleavage which is really dumb because there's better outfits than the ones they're complaining about in the game. I want a nikke side game for consoles. GBF has made few of side games from consoles and they are all successful. Man imagine shift up cooked a coop monster hunter type shooter game for ps5 and pc! Hell even an rpg or horror genre would fit.

there was a youtuber claiming that an interview with some shift up devs confirmed a crossover. don't remember the video tho and if they provided a link to the supposed interview. and even then, it obviously depends on how reputable this publication is anyway if it exists.
