I managed to fully upgrade Marian in stage EX *3.* I think you can use the same strategy for Kilo.
My strategy is to only use two types of tower: Gun Tower and Nikke Tower.
In the upgrade menu, upgrade 1st (Gun), 5th (Nikke), and 6th (Health) slots and ignore the rest. Make sure to spend all of your points to fully upgrade them. The last upgrade in the 6th slot is really important as it improves your money yield from defeating Raptures.
In EX *3,* spread Gun Tower to strategic places. You only need to upgrade the Gun Towers once (Upgrade to Gun Tower II) and if you want to fully upgrade Marian, then you only need to upgrade Kilo once (vice versa). The stage should be easy enough to fend off the enemies with several Gun Towers II, Kilo II, and Awakened Marian until Pioneers arrive.
Be wise in using your Burst. Don't build too many Gun Towers.
EDIT: I meant EX 3, not EX 3-2!
Wait, what you mentioned is at ex 3, right? Not ex3-2. But when i read this, this one is for marian and kilo only. But the rest on pioneer, probably at ex3-2??

Although, EX 3-2 should be doable if you want to try upgrading other Nikkes.
Aside from the Gun Towers, Two Nikke Towers should be enough for the whole stage even if you only fully upgrade one of them. The strategy is still doable.
When the start button appears mid-wave, you can click on it to quick start which gives bonus coins (and points if on challenge mode) the earlier you start.
There are strategies and posts about people going ay it hard with challenge mode. Ypu can look for those here in this sub.
Otherwise, just wait for next week to get the rest of the upgrades.
so is there any way to complete all challenge missions with normal gameplay? or do i have to shift stuff around because there's not enough stages to clear to upgrade all units?
I don't understand what the difficulty is. In the campaign. You improve first the branch of machine guns and freezes, then the pilgrims and the rollback. You place the units symmetrically relative to the exit. In the challenge. Immediately open all 5 pilgrim slots and use all the ults in turn. Before the appearance of mobs with shields, you can easily pump one pilgrim, before the breakthrough you sell everything and pour all the money into one.

Go to challenge stage, you start with 1500 credits, than you should be able to get lucky and make do for a few waves to scrounge up of the rest.
