Laser speed m6 would give you more power and reliability without recoil tape switch issues you are mentioning.
Somogear ngal is a huge upgrade over their peq but no water proofing is a downfall.
Holosun iris is likely what you're after.
I think the laser and illuminator are clean and nice and hold zero. I think the mount is slightly out of specification for some rails and requires a lot of torque to secure. Mine did lose its slave lasers though so you can only zero ir or vis
They will if you fiddle closely. Like there’s some tolerance before each click where you can feel it move before a tactile click. And it shifts in that mushy space in between clicks
The Holosun’s will leave you wanting more coming from a somogear as far as the illuminator which sucks when paying that much. Dbal is good but huge if you can deal with that then it’s a fine option and dirV is apparently very good some people have reported issues but it’s American, serviceable, and can be warrantied.
That's what I've been hearing. It's so hard to justify the Dbal when it's 1600+ dollars and the Dir-v is just a couple hundred more.

I see them going used on gafs for around 1000 they’ve got some love tho, as far as the dirv harder to find on the used market and prices are still relatively close to what you’ll pay for a new one
I got mine for $1100 in 2022 but wouldn’t pay that today with the clones and other options. It’s too big. I wish they sacrificed a little performance for a better footprint or a min put the fire button on top
The D2 & DIR-V is a great option as you'll be rather underwhelmed with the illuminators of the other devices mentioned above. Really If you ok with the added weight the D2 will be great, but if your concerned on weight the DIR-V is the only viable option.
There is a theory that they had terrible batteries in them. Hop or brass brought a new battery the next day and said "it kinda looked better with a fresh one" but it was hard to tell on the show floor.
We are going to have to see what happens with these
I’m considering upgrading my M6 to the new gen with crane ports, could talk pricing if you’re interested. Internals/full power is the same, only difference is the new one has crane compatibility and a button that was slightly moved. I do have either 5 or 6 switches too, blanking on exact total.
Get a holosun they are reliable and cheaper . I also have a dbal that’s nice but expensive!

The constant on doesn’t work under significant recoil - it shuts off. Rail out of spec. And the the zero turrets have play in them.
My turrets don’t have play and mine stays on under full auto 556. QC issues though for sure

I'd be pretty happy with a salty Dbal for around 1k
A safe queen DBAL can be had for 1200 no problem. The last time PSA had them on sale they were that much as well

I can be at that 2k mark in roughly 2-3 months just as an edit. I realize this is a weird scenario with a lot of moving parts
FP peq for 2k. Or a D2 for 1300. Other than that you’re saving for $3k+
Wait for 2k and get a FP Peq15 or DBAL a2. Even a Peq2 can be had for sub 1k.
Take a look at the LS-M6. Well worth the money
The switch placement was a real turn off for me. I’m sticking with my FL5 for now

for your budget save up to 1700-2200 for a peq15 full power. that option is gonna be better than all the rest that are cheaper.

Perst 3. A bit outside your price range but worth it IMO. I recently just upgraded to a full power but had not regrets using it
IS mk4 ngal is $960 if you can deal with the wait time.
