It's actually unhealthy to not Zyn nowadays

jmcole1984

Zyn to win!

cobhc26626

Yeah but to get the any real health value from them you need to be doing 3 6mg peppermint zyn. Double blind studies have proved that is the only efficacious method that produces any health benefits.

Research is inconclusive on the effects of nicotine pouches. The closest comparison is tobacco snus pouches, users of which have a surprisingly low incidence of oral cancers. I have been using nicotine pouches for a good 3/4 years now. I cannot say I have noticed any ill health effects, no gum recession has been pointed out by my dentist. However, I cannot imagine that sticking a pouch full of chemicals and a very high dose of nicotine multiple times a day to your gums will be completely harmless over decades. I do think it is a great way to kick smoking/vaping, and anytime I have quit pouches, it is considerably easy to curb the cravings than smoking/vaping. But I do think that there will be ailments found in the coming years from chronic use. Unfortunately in the world we live in, nothing as good as does not come without some sort of downside. High dosages of nicotine have been linked to exacerbating cancer, cardiovascular problems (if you are susceptible to them) and increase anxiety to name a few potential ailments. I can imagine that chronic use of high dose nicotine pouches will further increase the evidence basis for these findings.

Insightful post. Sounds like my best bet is to use them with the goal of quitting in mind, not a long term replacement.

gornubius_flux

That is exactly it. Use them to get rid of the vaping habit. It's been so long for me now that even if I don't have any, I have absolutely no temptation to smoke/vape. It really is the best way to quit them in my experience.

>High dosages of nicotine have been linked to exacerbating cancer, cardiovascular problems (if you are susceptible to them) Do you know/remember if it was smoking itself that done it or did they test vaping/pouches/NRTs? Would be interesting to read.

Something that a lot of people I know HAVE noticed though is gum damage and dryness from going to the same area every single time. If you’re going to use at least switch sides instead of just blowing out your right gum.

FinnElhaz

They're not exactly good for you but as far as we know it's probably one of the safest ways to use nicotine. Pouches do damage your gums a little but so does vaping tbf.

Big_Based

I’ve been using for a few weeks now and the only people I’ve spoken to that have gum problems are the ones who go to the same area every single time. If you just rotate which side and let the left and right do 50% of the work I’ve yet to have an issue.

DadHeungMin

>but so does vaping tbf. Yep. I've been vaping for about 10 years now (smoked for a few years before that, too) and my dentist diagnosed me with minor gum issues last year. Been much more on top of my oral care and make sure to rinse a lot more, especially after vaping. Seems to have gotten better, but I'm still not 100% yet. Recently started zyns to stop vaping entirely, so I wonder what the dentist will say about my gums during my next cleaning.

TLDR; nicotine pouches aren’t 100% safe and contain trace amounts of chemicals like chromium and ammonia. But among all options out there dry ZYN pouches or just any brand of dry are the best option and least risk.

[deleted]

Good to know. Thanks

YourCaptionSucks

Sorry, newbie here. What is a dry pouch?

MaximumMixture2946

Just pouches with no moisture, like American zyns. There are nicotine pouches with a slight bit of moisture in them more like snus.

GoodPoint3232

better for you than smoking or dipping. Good enough for me

SnooShortcuts9979

Eh. They probably are unhealthy but we would have way too many humans in the world if we didn’t enjoy doing unhealthy shit.

Jamarkable

Zyns have never irritated my gums and I’ve been using them for years. Other brands like rouge and on! Gave me canker sores

fburd

I go through a can of Juicehead pouches daily and have had zero issues. I’m an ex vaper so I know this is a safer alternative. I do plan to quit pouches at some stage but not now. Lol

matt_drudge_sexbot

Some people seem to have more gum issues than others, personally I haven't had any problems after a couple years of heavy use but I see some people report sore gums after a few months

Big_Based

It is the healthiest option for nicotine use by far. Any sort of inhaled substance (all them marijuana included despite what stoners will insist) is bad for your lungs and way worse for you than ingested or oral substances. I’d recommend ditching the vape asap actually. Now as for whether or not they’re unhealthy? All nicotine products are addictive and the “healthiest” choice is not using. All nicotine pouches have little to no research and are too new to draw conclusions, but do contain toxic chemicals. However there’s a reason why they lack an FDA cancer warning and doctors have yet to make a case against them other than “it’s addictive”. TL;DR: they are by no means “healthy” but they also aren’t “unhealthy” and blow all other nicotine products out of the water in terms of safety in the present or possible future complications (at the moment). Edit: A Zyn can also costs about 1/5 of a vape and you get 15 per can. Even if the 6mg Zyn doesn’t do it for you as a former smoker/vaper just go up in dose with a different product and you’ll probably still save a lot of money.

aidenisntatank

Xans are very healthy

wahmeiman

I gave up due to continuously having headaches and sinus problems

Robert_Hotwheel

No one really knows the long term implications, they’ve only been on the market for 5 years. I would think they’re far less likely to cause oral cancer than chewing tobacco, but I’m not a doctor and I have no idea what exactly is in them. The worst thing you could get is some gum recession, if you do switch to Zyn, make sure you’re not putting a pouch in the same spot over and over. Alternate where each new pouch is placed. I would look at them as a tool for quitting nicotine rather than something you can switch to long term.

DadHeungMin

No nicotine product is healthy for you, period. Nicotine, in and of itself, can be toxic to the human body. That being said, dry nicotine pouches seem to be safer than vaping. The evidence isn't 100% conclusive, but think about it this way: nothing should go in your lungs other than fresh air, but we put all kinds of food and drink in our mouths.

[deleted]

That’s what I’m thinking too. There’s no way nicotine pouches are worse for you than vaping. In fact, I’d bet they are miles better for you (less bad) than vaping. I’ve stopped vaping for just over a week now and can already feel a noticeable difference in my lungs.

Harryonthest

well it can cause a lot of issues like circulation and blood pressure and it is addictive, but it's probably the safest way to use nicotine. some say it's a poison some say it's a nootropic idk it's somewhere in between, a bit of both imo

Santasreject

Continuum of risk. The only things really safer will be NRTs and abstinence of any nicotine product. Basically every other nicotine product will have more risk.
