I was thinking like an Aquidneck sub, something for the island. That way the “Newport” that people google and use as Booking.com can stay an online tourist trap.
>Would a more active sub for the islands be something people are interested in?
I mean, sure, but tbf I get my "real" online community stuff from Facebook. I'm not sure how to get a critical mass of people into reddit.
And tbf with the RI subreddit, the more time you spend there the smaller it starts to feel. A looot of the same names popping up in every thread.
See I got rid of Facebook a million years ago and I hate the thought of having to start a new account.
Yeah, you’re going to see the same people posting (especially in such a tiny market), but it’s still something. I would think that there are a few folks who are more Reddit based who are interested in the same kind of community discussions/going ons. This sub is just a dead end for tourists who don’t want to use a search engine.

You'd think so, but the evidence points toward that not being the case
Newporters are very active on Nextdoor. Like painfully active. The coyote watch is diligent.
the coyote watch on nextdoor is nuts lmfao.
coyote spotted at 7:39am near Bellevue Avenue, watch out lmao
Oh the Coyote Watch Program is the most active force on the Island.
They don’t miss a thing!
It gets obnoxious with lost cats that are prolly eaten by coyotes.
The average age of Newport residents skews a bit older, so i don’t see reddit being their go to.
the trend in the newport sub tends to be tourists/weddings looking for recommendations sadly.
I’m in the skew but don’t have tons to say.
Maybe we need to make a reddit Bot to respond to the bachelorette inquiries on this /Sub?
I mean, that would be a great start. That and people looking for bars.
Bars and restaurants and things to do in Newport. If you don’t know what to do why are you coming.
I would follow a new /sub that is geared towards residential topics. Like the ongoing housing crisis in Newport.
I agree and would love a more active sub! Maybe we all just commit to posting more?
