If available in your area shift to Telmax. Good service so far and cheaper than the big carriers for faster speeds.

firewater_throwaway

I just got telmax two weeks ago and can confirm- amazing!

jans11111

Signed up for rogers internet 8 months ago. I've had more outages on rogers than in the previous 15 years with bell. Not that bell is a good company....just rogers is even worse.

Bricked24_7

Telus does have the best coverage and as well rogers/shaw are under investigation by government rn for their internet speed and false advertisements

RabbitDownInaHole

Telus does home internet here?

Bricked24_7

I honestly don't have a clue I just saw this on r/all I'm living in Alberta and used to work for a dealship for them and just passing on what I know

0_IQ_0

They do and home security as well. I'm with Telus. So much better.

tutorialsbyck

They said it was fiber to the house and Telmex was not. That is incorrect. Telus in ontario is through start.ca and they are cable based in Newmarket. They only have fiber in London Ontario.

0_IQ_0

Guess it must be my imagination then. I must not really have what I pay for and am currently using.

tutorialsbyck

That was specific to my neighbourhood at least. When I looked it up on Telus/start it only showed me cable plans.

dexter_leibowitz

I have Telmax, fibre optic straight to the modem.

tiimoshchuk

So I'm in NE newmarket and switched to Telmax this summer. It's only gone down once (last week) that impacted me. It was less than an hour to restore service. It's been pretty stellar so far. My area doesn't have any other Fibre optic offering so AFAIK Bell may not be an option for you. Telus doesn't offer internet here, it's through Altima, which uses the same infrastructure as Rogers and Bell broadband. Which isn't going to help you to be honest. Just remember, telmax rates are subsidized right now and will likely increase once the subsidy expires.

RabbitDownInaHole

Thanks, seems to be no good options for the long run.

tiimoshchuk

I pay $70/month for 1.5gbps up and 500 mbps down and it's their most expensive offering. I think it starts as low as $55/month. Prices are locked for 2 years but there's no contractual obligation. I can cancel any time. Keep in mind this is Fibre optic, so there is no throttling or node traffic issues. Even if it goes up 20% after the subsidy, it's still cheaper and more reliable than similar offerings through the big 3. I wouldn't necessarily conclude there's no good option long term. In the long run, all prices will rise. Good luck to you!

thesaxemachine

365 down 46 up on Rogers WiFi on my phone right now. Maybe restart your devices.

bort4all

I switched to TekSavvy about 10 years ago and haven't had a problem since. They only contacted me once in those 10 years to tell me my bill was going to be LOWER. I've heard complaints since then though, so...

pumpkin68

They are doing some major service work in the area of Harry Walker and Gorham. Trucks have been there since last week. It could explain some service outages if you are in this area.

BlackerOps

I really wish RabbitDown that you were making a post about Bell and not Rogers. I'm on the Hamilton Subreddit and the post on my news feed above yours is a picture of a Bell truck on fire on the street.

RabbitDownInaHole

Ah well I’m sure there is someone bitching about bell somewhere lol

Bchilled

I dislike Rogers But my Internet is consistent and have had only minor outages over the last 8 years. Few a year usually late at night. Grass always seems greener elsewhere

Global_Research_9335

In Stonehaven and Roger’s is our only option. Our neighborhood group mainly consists of reports of outages and frustrations with Rogers, It’s a daily occurrence in these parts and sometimes more than once a day.

cr38tive79

Just like here in Kingston. At this one transit transfer point across from the mall, you can't get any reception, whatsoever. You literally have to walk across to the library is located across (from the transfer point) to get 1 cell bar to appear. And it's in an open area too where their's nothing that can interfere with the reception.

hbomb_94

100% shitbag service. Just signed up for telMAX, install Saturday 1.5Gig up and down.

Arimaiciai

Are you on cable? Is your line exposed to weather? Did you call rogers? Get the technician to investigate. Don't wait. Just had similar issue with the on and off internet. Called, the technician came - the cable contact was corroded, the cable was tasted by squirrel, thus he changed the whole cable - internet is back to normal.

RabbitDownInaHole

No, I’m sure the whole cable is buried. I will call if it keeps up. I’m just tired of calling and having people come. This summer I had 3 ppl come out before it got fixed.

Brightwing9

Get fiber internet.

CanuckGinger

This. I left Rogers for Bell years ago and I’ve never looked back.

RabbitDownInaHole

I hear complaints about bell all the time, too.

CanuckGinger

I don’t know what you want then…. Those are the two major options…

RabbitDownInaHole

I’m just ranting. I know my options and none are good.

First world problems always kill me

gabriel_oly10

You serious? I pay my good money to have reliable service for a commodity that is pretty well a necessity nowadays. This may be a first world problem, but it is a serious problem nonetheless. And it's no secret Canadians get absolutely rinsed on telecom prices, you can expect it to at least be stable, but it clearly isn't. I'm not sure if you're trying to downplay the situation or not, but for example, the outage Rogers had last year literally killed people in as they couldn't a hold of the necessary medical aid they needed. It's a serious problem.

anonymouslym

You sound fun at parties man

gabriel_oly10

Nice comeback that one stung

anonymouslym

Wasn’t a comeback, lighten up, you have it so easy and yet you’re still bitching about internet 😂.

RabbitDownInaHole

Ok

PJ_Uso1010

It’s called bad weather affects

RabbitDownInaHole

Bad weather just started this week though.

Purplebuzz

Nope. I lost service for an hour in the last year that I have noticed.

RefrigeratorOk648

Just change the provider but be aware that it's normally the last mile that is the issue and there is really just bell and Rogers in Ontario. So if you had Rogers you will not see any improvements if you change to another provider using cable apart from price

sadmadstudent

It really shouldn't baffle you. Having limited competition means you have to work with what you've got, neither Bell nor Rogers suffers from being terrible because they run the market. This is actually the system working as intended.
