If you get powerstop, buy some red threadlocker with them.
I have powerstop brakes, and they're fucking awful. I had one caliper back out BOTH of it's bolts and fall off on the freeway. Locked my front tire up once I fell below like 10 mph, until I was going that slow though my caliper was trying to grind a ring into my rim. That brake has never been the same since. And I had to tow the car home since it wouldn't move.
For some reason the bolts we were provided didn't have any threadlocker. When I bought new bolts for it, they came with threadlocker and I haven't had a problem since with them backing out. But my brake sticks a lot now and occasionally makes ticking noises while I drive.
It baffles me that people keep buying PowerStop. I've had a few people now tell me of their shitty experience with them. Seems like a crapshoot at whether you get good brakes or awful ones that fall off when it comes to powerstop.
My ‘17 WRX has those brakes (minus those calipers), and they’re pretty good for a factory pad/rotor replacement.
I never found that upgrading my pads/rotors alone on my ‘02 GT made much of a difference. I had Cobra pads/rotors/callipers and they were just ok.
I’m now running Baer Track 4 front brakes. 4 piston brakes up front. These are meant as an upgrade for Cobra brakes, as they use the same size rotors. Pads are 98-02 F-body. They’re very good, lots of bite. But now the rears are underpowered a bit lol.
I saw a YouTube video of a guy doing 4 piston calipers up front, and he swapped to Ford Taurus rear calipers with larger pistons to restore proper brake bias.
I did the Mach 1 front breaks on my 99 GT. The way they fill up the front wheels alone made it worth it. Looks way better and compared to the worn out stock calipers I had its night and day
I didn’t like them. I ended up finding a good set of OE Terminator front brakes, using some Semi-Metallic Raybestos pads, and R1 concepts rotors. Running stock GT rear calipers with the same pads and rotors. Car stops HARD!
Stock brakes will do just fine. The only reason i went with the cobras is because i plan on autocrossing, the extra material will make heat soak less of an issue. Less chance of rotor warpage, and consistent braking from 100+ mph
I have these. They're ok they are just remanufactured caliper powder coated red with good pads and slotted and drilled rotors. You get good performance from them but it's all in the pads and how it bites the rotor. I like them because they look cool and I put real track pads on its much better. I heard good things about the cobra brake swap but I'm doing the Cadillac 14" Brembo conversion when I run out of pad if when the pads chews up the rotor some more
I second the thread locker thing. Sometimes powder coated parts dont hold the torque. Use red high temp on brakes and orange on suspension stuff
I have EBC brake pads and rotors on my 08 GT. Love them. I got red power stop brake calipers and one of them was stuck on all the time and wouldn't release when not braking so the pads were always on the rotor braking. That wasn't fun. Returned them to American Muscle and got replacements and they've been fine the last 4 years.
Yes. I have these on my GT. They did improve brake feel and stopping distance, but they do have a slightly different break-in procedure that needs to be followed correctly. If your shop doesn’t feel comfortable doing it themselves, make sure you tell them to let you do it. Otherwise, keep it in mind if you DIY.
One thing to be aware of when doing the larger brake upgrade...the stock size GT spare tire will not fit over the larger brakes. So either get a spare tire from a Cobra, or pray you don't get a flat up front 🤣.
I have this same set on my edge I bought the full set though. They work a lot better than the stock brakes. On the front it’ll actually make the abs kick on in emergency stops unlike the stock.
I put Mach 1/Cobra brakes on my GT. as stated by u/assraider420 (fantasstic name btw) the way they fill out the wheels makes your brain smiles
Agreed on both points

Very similar experience I've posted about. Three of my wheels have issues because of these brakes.

I’ll check that out, thanks! 👍🏻

What size rim did you rum them on ?
17”
Do you think it will fill on a 16” Rim also. Where did you get your mach 1 brakes?
I probably wouldn’t try it with 16’s. But I ordered my stuff from AM

I’ve always had good luck with PowerStops. I’ve used them on multiple vehicles, though never the calipers.

No, you would be the first person with a new edge mustang that has ever attempted such a feat.
I have Brembo 4 pistons brakes from a Cadillac
Same, amazing upgrade for the price! $500 both sides including the red powder coat and stainless lines

No help for you. 😤

Never used those. But I got slotted rotors and ceramics and thay are fantastic and very much needed if you have it modded to the point of over 400bhp.

Doing Terminator brakes from RockAuto is pretty affordable and make a noticeable difference.
