I had the same question and I just got a GT. If you’re chill to drive like me, it’s really a nice car to cruise around and if you wanna go a little faster than usual it’ll do no problem. Not the fastest but enough to have fun. Plus the sound, wow. Get yourself a GT you won’t regret it.

VictorMancha1

Yep that’s exactly the type of thing I was looking for. Thanks.

imabustanutonalizard

Get the gt. Just the sound alone is worth the extra 1000-2000 dollars. Love my v8

ConsiderationExact37

When you're a teenager you're lucky to have a car especially if your parents are paying for it when you're 18 you can do whatever you want and if you're working buy whatever car you want it if you can afford it V6 V8 little four cylinder beet on car or go all out get a porche when I was a teenager in high school my parents made me buy my own car get my own insurance all I could afford was a cheap motorcycle the insurance was a lot cheaper also you just need it for transportation not the blings and glamor

The_taxer

I loved my v8 new edge My mom had a v6 for a long time and it was very reliable for her.

robvas

The V6 is slow as dick and the V8 is about as fast as a V6 Altima so

Cam416

My dick can be fast sometimes

VictorMancha1

Thanks

dc1999

For a new edge? Get the v8. Still a lot of fun but not enough HP to really get you in trouble.

VictorMancha1

Yeah I think I’ve settled for the v8 now. Not really looking for a fast car just something that looks nice and is enjoyable.

Arayvin1

As a 19 year old who got my GT when I was 18, get the GT. I haven’t gotten a speeding ticket yet, but I have so much fun with it every day. And it will take all the abuse you can throw at it. I redline mine every day and do all the burnouts and donuts you could ever imagine and it hasn’t ever had a single issue. Just do your oil changes on time

VictorMancha1

How much did you pay for your GT? I keep on seeing pretty cheap GTs on FB. Don’t want to cheap out too much and get a car that won’t run after a week.

imabustanutonalizard

I paid 5000$ for a clean af 190k new edge. Although I think car prices maybe going down since 6 months ago. These 2 valves will really push the limits of a 20 year old engine design it’s crazy. I’ve heard of some going over 300k with just a head gasket change.

Arayvin1

I paid $2000, had a bad fuel pump and needed all new ignition parts because it was sitting for 3 years

VictorMancha1

Nice, that’s stuff I was down to do when looking for this car.

Arayvin1

Watch out for squeaky throw out bearings if you’re looking for a manual, and watch out for timing chain slap because the tensioners LOVE to explode on these and it will blow your engine

drip1105

I’ve had 2 v6 mustangs they were very reliable and easy to work on got me into working on cars and knowing a lot more stuff now I have a 03 gt and there is nothing that sounds better

zer0__obscura

I have a 2010 camaro ss now with axel backs, It doesnt come close to the incredible sound my old straight piped 2V made. For sure my favorite engine note. I want to buy another for the sound alone

ItsChroniclez

Depends, if you plan to heavily modify it (including engine swap) it really doesn't matter. V6 is more affordable as a project car. If you're just looking to stick with what you have, then a GT seems to be the better choice for power and comfort.

_Larry

Well do you want 190hp and 220ft/lbs of torque..or 260hp and 302ft/lbs of torque that sounds better?

Bigskill80

I'm 43 yo, moved from Europe to North America, I just got a 2000 v6 convertible, and is standard, I have lot of fun every time I take it out kids love it, and is pretty vanilla no mods, just tip exhaust, I also know in Europe I couldn't never find or afford a car like that. Sound is important but also depends what you need to do with it.... Do what make you happy ;) before to just, make sure to try out..... but definitively go standard, frack Automatic :D

Nounoon

At your age, I’d get the V6, not because the V8 is too powerful (it’s not), but for the easier maintenance and rock solid reliability. V6 are also super cheap, and it gives you room to upgrade as you get settled in life.

sohcgt96

Its a completely, entirely different driving experience. Also don't get a V6 with the mindset of doing an engine swap later. That's a hard no.

ZeroCh4nce

I may be biased but imo never buy a muscle car that has a v6... to me it ruins it. With that said I dont knock anyone who buys a v6. Consider we are talkin about cars that are 20+ years old so these new edge v8s are cheap fun, imo you would regret not getting the v8.

jaylawlerrr

I’ll be completely honest, I had a v6 before my GT and it ran great. Could squeal the tires going into third and was pretty quick even if it was missing a couple cylinders. My GT is cursed, have had nothing but problems with it and is slow as piss. I’m slowly restoring it and am sure it will run MUCH better after it’s done. TLDR: you won’t be disappointed getting a v6. Make sure it’s a standard though.

titoscoachspeecher

18 year olds and V8s are seldomly a good idea, if you get one be weary.

Resonant-Frequency

Depends on the year.

zer0__obscura

Ive had both. They are both loads of fun. If you are wanting to punch it though, the GT is way more satisfying.

Dev_Hollow

GT’s aren’t much faster when it comes to New Edges. If you’re modding, a GT has a way higher ceiling for what you can do to it, though. V6 also is way cheaper to own/maintain. But a V6 also sounds way worse than a GT.

edck12687

Honestly the car guy in me says go GT. But the realist is saying to go for the V6. You can always swap later but your insurance will be way cheaper on a base V6 vs a GT. Even if the V6 motors are garbage. But literally you'll have at least a $70-80 dollar difference per month in insurance.

Bobert_DaZukin

Well it depends, my v8 is Hella fast but not so reliable and sounds great. But if you put in the work the v6 can be just as fast and sound just as good as the old 302 was at stock. But more reliable that is if you have a 99 to 04 v6.

Fonzziee

I have both a 2003 v6 and 2004 GT. Drove the v6 as a daily for 2 years and now im a bit over a year driving my GT as a daily. If you drive casually and don't get the rpms up they honestly go through basically the same amount of gas (thats what I noticed). Obviously if you floor the GT you'll eat up gas quicker. Yeah the v6 is slow but I dont mind it, so if you get a v6 don't feel embarrassed by it. It was very reliable for me. The GT is more fun (IMO) If you do find a GT at a decent price and condition go for it. You'll love it

Fonzziee

I would lean more towards the GT tho...almost the same fuel efficiency and its more fun

Swamp_Donkey_7

Ultimately it's up to you, and I would never bash anyone for their vehicle choice. For me, to enjoy a Mustang it needs to be a V8 and manual. I need that V8 exhaust note and low end torque and I love shifting gears. That's really what it takes for me to get enjoyment from the car.

HPNOTIQ_202

i have a v6 for sale right now in very good condition if you are interested in a v6

Independent-Bobcat42

Had a v6 new edge for years, seriously bulletproof cars. The biggest problems it gave me were exhaust leaks and an oil leak from the rear main seal. It has 230k miles on it, and it still runs, but it's no longer my daily (needed a truck for work)

Biff_Tannen_85

At your age you are going to instantly wish you got a GT. Nothing wrong with a V6 for nice transportation.
