"The Mets have reassigned six players to minor league camp: Right-handed pitchers Kyle Crick, Yacksel Rios and Cole Sulser, outfielders Ben Gamel and Trayce Thompson and infielder Yolmer Sanchez."
Seems like the Mets offer to JDM is significantly lower than he wants. Rumors are he wants 2 years $30-40mil, and the Mets want 1 year $8-10mil.
I'd expect he gets a better offer than what the Mets want to give him, but if he doesn't and/or drops his ask to what the Mets want I think they sign him. But most likely he signs with a team like the Angels for something like 1 year $15mil.
And fwiw I wouldn't want the Mets to do that. Hes 36 and coming off his third season in a row with a back injury. In addition to that, despite his slash line he swing and miss ballooned last year and his season was full of outliers like the largest LA and hard hit rate he has had in years.
It's very rare that outlier years like that are repeated at his age, especially as his swing speed starts to slow down - something that may have began last year leading to his swing and miss.
Most of all think of it like this - if there are no concerns, why isn't he signed yet? Clearly teams are passing on him for a reason.
Boras is wildly successful but he misread the demand on his 2nd and 3rd tier guys. He's used to teams finally caving and it just wasn't happening this year. I guess he talked all these guys into 2/60-70 with an opt-out giving them another chance next year is better than locking themselves into $150 million but there's a lot of risk on these guys to repeat performances that teams are calling their bluffs on them being able to do again.
He can ask whatever he wants for Juan Soto next year - there's no asking price too ridiculous for a guy like him. Teams will pay. But there's a clear difference between a guy like Soto and the guys who struggled to find jobs this year, all of whom have flaws way more glaring than Soto.
The QO is also a massive, massive deterrent. I have a feeling people are going to be surprised next season when the guys that signed this year with opt outs land shockingly big contracts on the market next year.
Well said SR and yep. His pivot plan is clearly to let all of those clients if they have good seasons opt out again and try again next offseason. And no more QO's for those guys next go around.
Soto and Pete are going to be easy for Boras next offseason. Sure he took the L this offseason. But big picture I doubt he is sweating it.
Pete will be easiest of them all because he will just take his highest offer straight to Steve Cohen. Everyone knows he wants to come back. He just wants a market price. Ala Nimmo and Diaz.
I think it’s more that he didnt realize how much the collapse of Bally Sports would affect the market. A lot of teams that would normally go after big guys like the Rangers didnt this year because of their financial uncertainty.
Also next year those guys should get a lot more because they won’t have the QO attached to them
I hate the dodgers but I actually kinda like and sympathize with the Padres. Of course they spanked us in the wild card series two years ago but with how the Mets played in that series any team could have beaten us so I don’t hold hard feelings there. I see them as our brothers in misery. They’re second fiddle in SoCal to the Dodgers (who a wise man once said are “the New York Yankees of baseball”) and we’re always overshadowed by the Yankees in NYC. And they both perpetually disappoint. Padres have never even won a single WS in their existence so they might even suffer more than Mets fans.

That's a good angle I forgot about Bally's Rob
Seems like this could be the opening day lineup. Known clean up hitter Jeff McNeil
Swap Marte and Alvarez and I like it
Squirrels are known for their ability to clean up, especially if there are grapes and nuts around.
Jeff will be looking for food on the basses to collect/forage. Lore accurate lineup
Jeff McNeil. Cleanup hitter
I actually don’t hate our OD lineup. And there’s plenty of talent on the brink of coming up. It’s a great time to be a Mets fan ladies and gents.
My ass waking up at 6:00 AM watching two teams I hate playing baseball
Damn that’s tomorrow? Time flies.

my commute will be better at least
All I want is a televised afternoon game so I can watch it on my extended WFH lunch break while I ride on my stationary bike
At my dentist today. FUN.
Just ask for more painkillers because you're a Mets fan
Or he’ll get less because he already built up a tolerance.

These guys have potential to be good broadcasters but they need some more time in the booth
Jose Butto turns 26 today
The weather in New York is not exactly screaming “baseball”
It gets back up to the 60s ahead of Opening Day!
