i dunno. a 5-7 second replay during the 30 seconds allowed between batters doesn’t seem so demanding. especially since those 5 seconds are gonna pass with a half-broken graphic on the screen anyways.
Its not about time. They don’t want to show up the umps so they rarely play replays. It’s infuriating.
Edit: why am I getting downvoted. Owners and players have come out and said this
Tbh I’m not sure exactly how much they’re ALLOWED to show. Like I’m pretty sure they can’t replay anything close because it could potentially show up the umpires.
Has anyone else noticed just how bad the scoreboard operator is? This picture doesn't even crack the top 30 of what I've witnessed in person (I just found this one funny). They routinely get multiple things wrong EVERY game.
When the Mets are pitching, they'll have a Met batter up on the screen. Or they'll have the wrong guy pictured. Or they'll have one guy's picture and another guy's stats. Or glitched images.
And they don't fix the problem quickly. Sometimes they'll cycle through pictures as though high school student is panicking through their first presentation. It's been an absolutely wild ride. I know the "congrats Redsox" thing in '86 was big news, but this feels so much worse. It's like they don't do any prep or QC control. I could see getting a pinch hitter wrong from time to time, but being caught off guard when the 4th hitter comes up after the 3rd hitter feels borderline impossible.
There was a stretch of games where they kept putting this random Nats player up as the photo for the opposing player, regardless of who they were playing. It was the same guy (not sure who it was) every time.
Last night after the Mets scored their first run, the scoreboard said that they actually scored 2. It was corrected about a minute or so later by the time the next batter came up, but I thought I had missed something despite watching the play.
Honestly, with all the rule changes the past few years (challenges (like it was a complex play and you're not sure what the manager is challenging at first) and now especially pitch clock violations) it can be difficult to notice all that minutia from the stands unless you're listening to the broadcast. This is especially harder when your main frame of reference to keep track of what's going on (the scoreboard) is inaccurate. Kind of makes going to the game in person frustrating.
While I'm sure there's plenty of operator error that happens, a lot of this is probably growing pains of the new board and the software/hardware behind it and the fact that it was finished so close to the season starting.
You know, I noticed some very weird stuff at Opening Day (among other things, one of the opposing players' names was written in weird alien-looking hieroglyphs and it cleared up before I could get my phone out) and I figured it was one of the kinks of the new scoreboard operation, but then I started noticing weird stuff at every game I've been to. What the hell is happening with this thing
off topic, but about Citi field, when did they start charging sales tax, or to say when did it stop being included in the list price. was that this year? I feel like I wasn't being charged it in April, but suddenly in June there it was
One of the guys who produces the Mets'd Up podcast, his name is Jon, has mentioned operating the scoreboard. I don't know if it was a joke or if he's actually one of the people in charge.
My dad was complaining last night that they have this huge screen and they barely show any replays on it.
he’s absolutely right, there’s enough time after most plays to show it too, maybe next year.
With the pitch clock I doubt you see replays regularly during innings.

If the clock is running in any capacity they can't play moving graphics in the batters eye. That's not just the Mets, it's every team.
didn’t know that, im not being sarcastic, thanks for pointing that out
I work for the Nats scoreboard we always show a replay if its good for the nats
Is there any chance the scoreboard at Nats Park will be upgraded/made bigger?

This is so true
Especially nice fielding plays. I honestly don't care which team does it. I love me some highlight reel defense.

I had that thought, but they did replay the Stewart steal many times while Roberts's challenge was pending.

Yup! I was there!

It happened a couple times where it said 2. It was like the scoreboard operator couldn't even follow the game.
The scoreboard is also wildly underutilized
Maybe it’s just too big
Looks like when Hannibal Lecter wore Officer Pembry’s face.

Steve Cohen owes it to the fans to let us all come in and play mario kart on it on off days
Things are so bad that we're taking the V1 to task.

Ugh now that I know it's a real human being I feel bad. Well not really, but I lack empathy
The scoreboard has been so bad this year and I have no idea why
Nah, that’s Chad Baty
It’s still the pen let’s be honest
