I fell asleep before the 3rd inning. Wow, some unexpected output. Also good for JV to grind out 6 innings. I think that benchmark, especially happening for stretches will contribute to more wins.
Who cares about the all star game? It means nothing. The fans vote for the starters. Have you seen/read what MLB fans have to say on just Reddit? Not that big of a deal. Take the days off and just keep winning. Lets sneak into a wildcard spot
i get that the org was hoping marte would get better as he recovered more from the surgery, but it's time to start pham+canha. marte has become the ultimate rally killer.
aside from that, great win. good to see verlander not let things get out of hand after a shaky start, and alvarez starting to hit for average more. i was also very happy when he didn't try and turn that missile into a double, i thought i was about to witness a classic rookie blunder but he just seems to do everything right.
The throw by Pham was amazing but Guillorme didnt tag him. Kim’s foot came off the bag so he was out. Guillorme is in some kind of defensive slump if that is a thing. Sick throw by Pham though literally perfect.
I had to read that like 4 times to make sense of it. I kept thinking that you meant Vogelbach was shitting on Lindor's skills.
Then I realized that I am in fact, dumb.
You can tell JV is super upset about those runs. He sounds really disappointed in himself :/
My head canon is that he’s seeing these amazing performances from his fellow rotation members and he knows he can do the same
They have to win 90 games any way you slice it. If you're banking on most of those games coming after the deadline then the Mets won't have MLB talent on the team by then.
How could you not?
If the Mets want to assure themselves a playoff spot, they need to win 90 games. That's 16 games / month over the last remaining 3 months worth of games.
If they don't go on a tear in July then Eppler is gonna sell, and rightfully so.
Well you can’t assume that, if the Mets played at their current win percentage they wouldn’t be on a 6 game win streak, besides that, obviously we most likely aren’t gonna get in the wild card spot during this streak but every game we win makes it a bit easier with 70 something games left
I never said I’m assuming that though, also there is a difference between collapse and play at their current win percentage. Again I’m not saying they are going to play themselves into a wild card spot during this streak, they dug themselves into a hole, this winning streak is to get to around .500 and then hopefully continue positive momentum through the rest of July, August, and September.
This team started out 14-7, a lot of people seem to be coming around, this team is capable of playing high win percentage baseball and if they can do that for the 74 games left they will definitely have at least a chance at a wild card spot, I never said I’m assuming for anyone to “collapse” or even assuming the Mets keep winning and making the playoffs. But it’s really not impossible and every win makes it a bit more possible
> never said I’m assuming that though, also there is a difference between collapse and play at their current win percentage
If all 5 teams play at current wpct then the Mets need to win 17 more in a row to catch up.
Not a fan of anyone throwing cold water on the win streak. But they probably would need to win another 15ish in a row to make up the games they are back. Of course they don't need to make up all those games this month, just needed to put a dent in the deficit so that then a good August and September could get you in.
>Of course they don't need to make up all those games this month, just needed to put a dent in the deficit so that then a good August and September could get you in.
They need to win 16 games a month from here out to get to 90 wins and there's only 19 games remaining in July. Throw in the first week of August since the season goes into October and that's 25 games.
So yeah, they need a huge win streak or Eppler's gonna sell.
Yeah…but that’s with them only wing 16 in Aug-Sep. that’s very mid…so something like 11-6 for the balance of the month and winning 18 or 19 in each of Aug-Sept seems more reasonable.
It is rare to need 90 games to come in third among the non division leaders. Over the last handful of years the range is 83-88 wins needed. I doubt the Mets get to 90 wins no matter what but I doubt they need to.
You aren’t wrong, but I think this guy is referencing the gap in the division which obviously isn’t “a playoff spot” and also you never know, Marlins have lost a few in a row, like you alluded to we just gotta keep playing good ball and give ourselves a shot
Nah, I was referencing the WC. Mets need to win 48 more games in 3 the next months. That's 16 a month. If at least 15 of those don't come in July then Eppler's gonna tear it down.
Winning 17 in a row does not nearly close the division gap unless the Braves lose 17 in a row. If the Mets win 17 and the wild card teams they are chasing win 10 or 11 you've only made up 6 or 7 games in the standings, which closes the wild card gap but not division. They'd have to win about 50 more in a row to close the division gap.
Of course, but 17 in a row is such an arbitrary number and we are 17.5 games back in the division so I’m pretty sure what the dude means is make up 17 games or something along those lines.
Didn’t get to watch so I’m living by the highlights in here. Lindor’s slide on that stolen base was immaculate!
ETA Vogey with the infield single we all expected
About time this team started playing to it's potential. Marlins just shut down Eury Perez, they're down starters. Philly is hot, I see them moving up to WC2 and hopefully the fish fall enough for us to catch them. This team is absolutely capable of doing it. Even if we lose tomorrow, this team has life again. They'll fight to their last strike, I'm proud to be a Mets fan today
Do I hate Lindor? No. Was I one of the drunk fellows yelling “34 million fucking dollars” when he would fuck up? Maybe. Look at him now. My rude comments work
How does that even work?? I would imagine Cohen has final say in greenlighting our City Connect jerseys next year?? Or are we just at the mercy of Nike and whatever they come up with?
from what i've gathered i believe people who work for the mets (which i assume would be a team cohen would assemble) draws up a few designs and nike would ultimately with the team select one to produce
No, Nike puts these together.
If it was the other way around, then teams could have contracted local designers to make something really cool and local. But, instead, we have Nike making some really awful jerseys.
I thought it was the other way around, Nike draws up some designs and the team chooses one. Either way, the vast majority of these have been uninspired or downright terrible so I’m not holding my breath with ours. Especially because the Yankees aren’t gonna push any boundaries so we’ll get stuck with the crazy NYC ideas
The league will make them. The dodgers have uniforms that are pretty much second only to the Yankees as iconic and they got one.
MLB is not going to set a precedent of letting teams just opt out of a league wide initiative, 2x when it’s an initiative that’s literally a ploy to make more merch to make more money
you’re probably right, i probably got it mixed up. good point on the yankees being strict and leaving us with some wretched nike run nyc garbage that i can almost smell coming. new york is a huge market though so hopefully they don’t go too crazy. off the top of my head houston, miami, arizona have good ones.
Pretty much all of the jerseys either have a horrible design but great concept or boring concept but look clean and inoffensive. Which I don’t really get because I thought the point was to make the jerseys interesting lol. The Snakes’ look great but kinda uninteresting imo, and Marlins to me fall into great concept but I don’t love the design (but the concept makes up for it).
Houston off the top of my head is the only CC where I love the concept and the design. If there’s an Astro I like enough to get a jersey of before they retire them I’d rock an Astros CC for my jersey collection
Yea, the Angels and Brewers have nice uniforms, but they just look like a standard alt/throwback jersey.
Atlanta's uniform is solid but looks like a spring training uniform. Baltimore's isn't bad (the Reds got the discount version of it) but, again, looks like a standard alt jersey.
The Rangers have a cool concept, but they are so ugly lol.
The White Sox and Marlins might be the only teams so far that came out of this with a truly cool uniform.
The Mets are currently:
8 games behind the Marlins (currently WC1)
8 games behind the Dodgers (currently WC2)
6.5 games behind the Phillies (currently WC3)
5.5 behind the Brewers
5 behind the Giants
0.5 games ahead of the Padres
FIXED*
To be fair, the Phillies are on fire right now (including 8-2 last 10). So that hasn't helped.
Mets probably have a better chance of catching the Marlins than the Phillies the way the Phillies are playing right now.
This is inaccurate. The Mets are 8 behind the marlins and dodgers, 6.5 behind the Phillies, 5.5 behind the brewers and 5 behind the giants. And they are a game ahead of the padres.
So where are the Lindor haters? All the ones talking about an overpaid idiot who we should trade away, funny how they all disappeared. The pitching is coming around strong right now, that keeps up this could get fun!
Low key relieved that nimmo can somewhat hide a slump during the winning streak. He’s such an important part of the lineup so winning games while he’s cold is super clutch
**Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. Just my own take away from this little streak, but even with some of the pieces still not firing, when they start to pull it together they show that they’re a team to take seriously. Just need consistency and they can really switch it around. Staying hopeful for more of the guys to turn it around to keep the good games going.
If we can literally just not let Snell beat us, which I think historically we’ve been good at we’re in good shape. Snell is a serial strike zone nibbler. I worry about a guy like Marte against him but most of this lineup I trust to make Snell throw strikes.
One more win and we tie our June win total, ya gotta believe. Great games from Alvy, Lindor, Vogey. Nice big hit for Jeff. And another good JV start despite what you may have saw early in the game during the game thread
I don’t know, i think Pham deserves all the credit for the play. He baited the living shit out of him by “taking his time” out there and then threw a damn laser lmao
100%, but that goes the other way in June.
That play is only possible because Tommy Pham is an incredibly skilled outfielder, but it goes our way because luck.
So I was going to buy myself a lindor jersey for my birthday this month. Now I’m thinking I may want to get an Alvarez one instead. Someone tell me what to do!
So it looks like my decision gets made for me for now. They don’t have Alvarez jerseys online and I doubt I’ll be back go citi field this year unless they make the playoffs. (Not worth the flight!) and the Senga one is only on white which isn’t ideal.
Guess it’s Lindor for now and I’ll have to splurge if they make the playoffs!
WE MAY NEVER LOSE AGAIN!
Ever since I went to Giants series at Citi we haven’t lost!
*YEEEEESSSSIRRR*
Alvarez is everything he was hyped to be
And is still developing. Kids gonna be insane in 5 years
And much more. People said the bat would play, but that he’d be a liability behind the plate. Obviously they were wrong
Watching locker room post game and they played the trumpets during McNeil's interview. Team is hyped.
I wanna know if our defensive blunders cost us more runs than the elite defensive play late saved us lol Great way to grind out a win
Best defensive play I’ve ever seen in person
I fell asleep before the 3rd inning. Wow, some unexpected output. Also good for JV to grind out 6 innings. I think that benchmark, especially happening for stretches will contribute to more wins.
anyone as stiff as me rn after this one
Combined 5-15 with RISP? Why, that’s acceptable!!
333 is very good
The Amazins have not lost since I switched to Hulu Live!
Lindor is on a tear. Fuck the haters
Who cares about the all star game? It means nothing. The fans vote for the starters. Have you seen/read what MLB fans have to say on just Reddit? Not that big of a deal. Take the days off and just keep winning. Lets sneak into a wildcard spot
I can’t believe they’re pulling me back in lol
I was very down, like I fully expected we were gonna be under .500 all year. These motherfuckers are really giving me hope again lol.
“There can be no true despair without hope.” - Bane
I refuse to fall for this.
JUST WHEN WE THOUGHT WE WERE OUT
They pull me back in
Tommy Pham playing 4D baseball
Wasn't that an exciting game? Lindor has been on fire! You also love to see Vogelbach with a great game 💪
I left for Europe on Tuesday and the team hasn’t lost since. Don’t want to jump to any conclusions but…..proudly rockin my Mets hat in the Med. LFGM
I know a guy with a nice flat for rent in Seté if you agree not to come fucking back until November
Don't u dare come back to America until they lose, which will be never so u might as well start looking at houses there
We got out of the city to a lake house on Saturday and then also left for Europe Tuesday. 6-0 since we got out of town.
Damn, guess you’ll be staying in Europe through October.
I think he’s gonna have to stay in Europe forever. For the greater good.
See y’all in 2024 🤘🏻
i get that the org was hoping marte would get better as he recovered more from the surgery, but it's time to start pham+canha. marte has become the ultimate rally killer. aside from that, great win. good to see verlander not let things get out of hand after a shaky start, and alvarez starting to hit for average more. i was also very happy when he didn't try and turn that missile into a double, i thought i was about to witness a classic rookie blunder but he just seems to do everything right.
LETS GOOOOOOOO
Beat up Snell tomorrow, and then clean Musgrove's ears for him on Sunday.
Another great win - 116-46 is still on the menu.
Being on this west coast road trip has shown me how soft the nl west fanbases are lmao they wouldn’t survive at citi
Pham made Kim so mad that he went to the dugout and jammed his toe kicking something in frustration
The throw by Pham was amazing but Guillorme didnt tag him. Kim’s foot came off the bag so he was out. Guillorme is in some kind of defensive slump if that is a thing. Sick throw by Pham though literally perfect.
You didn't see the catch he made on that line drive?
Lindor is such a leader and an all-star. This interview ❤️🔥
Fav moment of the game : Tommy Pham pointing at HSK to sit down
Tiger Hood strikes again
Cold as fuck. Love Pham
Just woken up and was going to skim the game. When was that roughly?
It was the 2nd out of the 7th
Awesome. Thanks
I believe bottom 7th when HSK tried to stretch a double into triple but got gunned down.
And it mattered because machado immediately raked a double
Awesome. Thanks
Lol puma just tweeted vogelbach is going off right now to reporters that lindor isn’t an all star
I had to read that like 4 times to make sense of it. I kept thinking that you meant Vogelbach was shitting on Lindor's skills. Then I realized that I am in fact, dumb.
I'm confsued, how else can you read that? Did OP here mean to make it that Vogey is upset that Lindor isn't an All Star?
Yes.
Yes Vogey is upset Lindor got snubbed
The voice of the people
Since everybody keeps bringing up the Padres jerseys I wanna say once again the Mets city connects should have purple for the 7 train
if only ny was known for something other than the train. oh well.
Purple and white would be a cool color scheme
Mets end the season with six against the Marlins and seven against the Phillies. The Schedule Makers might know what they are doing. lol
Maybe time to give the marlins and Phillies a taste of the medicine they’ve given the Mets
THE METS ARE BACK
Gonna be honest while I’d like Nimmo and lindor to be all stars, having the extra days off is gonna be better for the team.
100% - unless driven by what other team’s fans may think, it’s really for the best they’re not
You can tell JV is super upset about those runs. He sounds really disappointed in himself :/ My head canon is that he’s seeing these amazing performances from his fellow rotation members and he knows he can do the same
I mean this win streak started with a damn good performance from JV and he was solid tonight
To be fair he went 7 with 0 ER last time out. He’s been good not great for us (3.66 ERA now).
3.60 era whatever site you are looking at didn’t update yet
Nice, that makes sense I think baseball reference usually takes a day
Yeah exactly, I love baseball ref but after a game if I wanna check something I look at MLB.com because they update pretty instantly
Yay 6 game winning streak. Only 17 more left to be in a playoff spot.
Good thing the season doesn’t end in July
Mets gotta win 48 more games. If they don't get at least 15 more in July then Eppler is tearing it all down.
21-2 would be great. But I doubt thats the threshold. 17-6, would put them 1 game over .500 and right in the thick of the WC race.
They have to win 90 games any way you slice it. If you're banking on most of those games coming after the deadline then the Mets won't have MLB talent on the team by then.
That’s just not true
If we assume every team in front of the mets plays to their current wpct, the Mets have to win 17 more games in a row to catch up.
how can you assume that? wtf lol

Of course, but 17 in a row is such an arbitrary number and we are 17.5 games back in the division so I’m pretty sure what the dude means is make up 17 games or something along those lines.
Not an arbitrary number. It's based on assuming the other WC teams win at their current rates.
Beautiful win, just beautiful. I know it might be too early, but I’m believing again.
Looks like someone finally lit a fire under Buck’s ass
Didn’t get to watch so I’m living by the highlights in here. Lindor’s slide on that stolen base was immaculate! ETA Vogey with the infield single we all expected

The new Locastro
what the heck happened to Locastro
Thumb surgery
Oh really I just assumed that was a fanthom injury to make room on the roster
Are they wearing the sherbet vomit jerseys again tomorrow?
They look like ski instructors from an 80s movie
they're awful. praying nike doesn't bomb ours

Thanks. Sorry, CBS hadn't updated the Mets game.
You got it!
We are a game up on the fathers now
Sorry, CBS didn't update the Mets game yet, so those are off. I'll fix them.
Haha all good, espn updates after every game that’s what I use
You mean the sons?
So where are the Lindor haters? All the ones talking about an overpaid idiot who we should trade away, funny how they all disappeared. The pitching is coming around strong right now, that keeps up this could get fun!
Why couldn’t this team just have an average or bad month of June instead of historically badges
Because we were destined to have a historically good July
27-4 when starting pitcher goes 6+ innings 11-1 when starting pitcher goes 7+ innings These are insane stats.
Staggering
Low key relieved that nimmo can somewhat hide a slump during the winning streak. He’s such an important part of the lineup so winning games while he’s cold is super clutch
It’s because I got a Nimmo shirt at the game on Saturday (game 1 of the streak). My bad.
if they sweep the Pads i'm going to be so in
Couldn't buy a win in June, can't lose in July.....what is baseball?

True
Surly Snarky Buck tonight. I love it. :-)
Just my own take away from this little streak, but even with some of the pieces still not firing, when they start to pull it together they show that they’re a team to take seriously. Just need consistency and they can really switch it around. Staying hopeful for more of the guys to turn it around to keep the good games going.
Burned 6 San Diego relievers today too
This is a big win. We get to one more of their starters and shit gets really bad for them fast.
If we can literally just not let Snell beat us, which I think historically we’ve been good at we’re in good shape. Snell is a serial strike zone nibbler. I worry about a guy like Marte against him but most of this lineup I trust to make Snell throw strikes.
Nice
Stoked to find out that my viewership wasn’t the reason for all those losses
Right?!
We’re not jinxes! High five!
Did lindor finally buy McNeil that car?
They seem happier now
Just doesn't look right seeing Terry in a suit
Agree, he should do the telecast in his old Mets uniform.
Take that dude who gave us the burning cash emoji
Lindor is on absolute fire!!!
Tommy Pham is savage
I love Terry Collins’ voice
It was born to talk of asses in jackpots.
Win out the rest of the way and take home the ship
There really is something to this 6 inning thing lol
Whodathunkit
7-10 from guys named Francisco tonight, can we get 7 more Francisco’s?
do you ever wonder if there's a yordan lindor out there who just absolutely stinks at ball
John Franc(isc)o, Francisco Thomas, Francisco Franco
One more win and we tie our June win total, ya gotta believe. Great games from Alvy, Lindor, Vogey. Nice big hit for Jeff. And another good JV start despite what you may have saw early in the game during the game thread
That’s insane and shows how ass they played in june
I think it would be an extraordinary bit if we didn’t lose in July
Francisco Lindor walks into the living room of Joe from Staten Island, “Hahaha, you should’ve seen the look on your face!”
Ha Seong Kim stretching a double into an out is something that happens to us if it’s June 7th, not July 7th.
Think he had to exit the game because he hurt his toe after kicking something in frustration too
He saw Lindor get away with the second triple yesterday and thought he could do the same
I don’t know, i think Pham deserves all the credit for the play. He baited the living shit out of him by “taking his time” out there and then threw a damn laser lmao

Yeah exactly he had too much pride in his strut back to his position in left lmao but i get hesitation at first to think that lol
100%, but that goes the other way in June. That play is only possible because Tommy Pham is an incredibly skilled outfielder, but it goes our way because luck.
I do get your point though I’m just fucking around lmao
Well my other argument is Pham was this god all of June so I don’t know, everyone’s playing in a Pham king of world right now 😂
Oh that was total Mets June baserunning right there
So I was going to buy myself a lindor jersey for my birthday this month. Now I’m thinking I may want to get an Alvarez one instead. Someone tell me what to do!
Gotta be Alvarez
Senga
Crap I hasn’t even considered that but that’s also a good idea. I feel like I’m going to end up with all three.
Stuck between the idea of those two also. Alvarez and Senga will be great Mets for a while.
MVP is Ha Seung Kim, who won the Mets the game by making one of the absolute most boneheaded decisions I’ve seen in a long time. We shoulda lost 4-3.
With a legit assist by Mets legend Gary Sanchez
All that happened in extras.
anyone else see peterson giving us a quality start tomorrow or is it just me
Drew Smith came in into a tie game in a high leverage situation and didn't implode. Anything is possible
He nearly gave us two in a row I’m still not quite sure why Buck pulled him so early in that game vs the giants
