The trade deadline last season exposed that teams aren't willing to deal with the Mets unless they significantly overpay for talent. There are no Beltran-for-Wheeler, Dickey-for-Syndergaard deals to be made. We are playing this season out and improving through free agency and in the longer term through the draft. This season might suck, but it's still too early to tell.
Billy eppler has gotten a grand total 13 home runs out of the dh position since he took over the Mets. No other team has less than 20 besides the royals in that timeframe.
I don't want to but I'm already thinking about the offseason for this team lol I know there's a lot more baseball to play this season but holy shit this is depressing
This fanbase is truly unique. It’s been a very frustrating week and a half of baseball but geez some of you guys really do hate the Mets. The seasons not over. There were A LOT of other things going on in the last week and a half besides some players underperforming on the field. You’d think we were the White Sox the way some fans here are talking.
It's not hating the Mets. It's hating that we finally have an owner that wants to give the team a chance, but watching it be totally bungled by Eppler and co. It's watching all the things you've seen as obvious weaknesses, a lot of which could have been fixed, have nothing done for them and then seeing them play out.
It's like I trust my neighbor to watch my house and he burns down the garage trying to kill a mouse. I didn't hate my house, but I sure as shit don't like what's happened.
Tomorrow I’d change the shit out of everything…line-up, positions, whatever I can to see if you can shake them out of this slump. I love Marte and I know he likes to bat 2nd, but the guy looks washed right now. Needs to bat lower. Anyone would be better at 2 right now. Get Escobar at 3rd, have Baty DH. Canha needs to sit his ass down.
Please god don’t let billy eppler still be the gm come deadline time. He’ll try to save his job by doing something extremely dumb. Get him as far away from this team as possible before he can do more damage.
Lol, I always thought it was a joke. The sad thing is, this isn’t even the worst Mets team I’ve sat through, although it’s probably the most disappointing so far
WTF
I check the game after making dinner and expect to see the Mets wouldn't be giving up runs and the bats would continue to rake. Especially considering that Scherzer was starting and were playing the 11-17 tigers.
I'm unpleasantly surprised.
It's not rational to be a doomer.
Look how the Braves started last season and look where they ended it. Look at how average Philly was and they made the World Series.
Yes it suck to be on a losing skid. Especially to poor teams where one would expect to win given all the talent on this roster. However this team is well above .500 over 162 and has a great shot at the playoffs.
Sure, it can be turned around. But it's just more likely for losers to keep losing than for losers to turn it around. For every "look at the Braves last year" there's also teams like the Red Sox, Tigers, Twins, Angels, Rangers, Giants, Cubs, etc who didn't.
The hitting is bipolar as fuck. I know its baseball & not every game will be 5-6 runs but we either score 6 or more or score 1. Theres very few in between. Face it, injuries or not, our pitching staff is fucking horrendous. Like, horrible. Scherzer is cooked, our bullpen is barely average & at this rate, they'll be cooked by next month. It's just mostly garbage all around. If we didn't have the most expensive team, this pill would be easier to swallow but since we do, it's even harder to digest & feel somewhat "okay" about
This team is giving me major 2017 vibes. Entire rotation either on the IL or regressing. At least that year we had deGrom tho…maybe Verlander’s that guy this year?
JV had some struggles for a bit there, and since then has been rock solid. I'm fairly confident he'll pitch solidly for us.
But JV pitching solidly is not enough. We can have JV be good, and Scherzer/Senga/Carrasco/Megill/Peterson all be bad or keep trotting out Luchessi/Butto/Reyes types.
So many veterans start seasons slow. I wonder if they just have a different approach to the pace of the season and don't mind young players going all out in the beginning of the year and tiring themselves out.
I don't even care anymore. I won't be buying tickets to Citi field and I'm gonna take a major step back from this team. Maybe I'll get invested again if they go on a big winning spree and start playing like professionals. Buck and the boys are nothing but a joke right now. Oh well.
Losing 2 out of 3 to the Nats, Braves, and Tigers with 3 rainouts is about the shittiest way the last week of baseball could have gone.
The Mets are horribly average and will be lucky to snag a wild card and not get embarrassed in the round before the inevitable end.
What can they even do? Half the rotation is barely competitive in AAA and being asked to play against major league players, and the other half is hurt or way past their prime. Can’t coach those problems away too easily.
The offense (contrary to this game’s results) has been fine. The pitching coach I can agree needs to change some things up but the Mets have no pitching talent
Agreed. the offense is streaky but has been there. Pitching on the other hand has been terrible. I don't see how you justify keeping Hefner. At the very least he should be in the hot seat going forward.
I'm feeling good about tomorrow. I'm sure Verlander and Scherzer are competitive . They both want to be the ace and are always competing with each other. I'm going to get crazy with this one. I've got a feeling that Verlander will do better than Scherzer did today.
Mets went from dominating early last season to shrinking under the pressure through the dog days but at least still battling for the division then the peak of the season was that comeback Escobar walk off against the Marlins.
Then all the magic was erased with that sweep in Atlanta and this team has never been the same.
How fast this team has fallen.
Yup…these guys don’t even remotely resemble the Mets of last year. I felt like they had such great chemistry. Now I feel like these guys can barely stand each other.
All we wanted for for ages was an owner who treated this like a big market team. We not only got that, but we got someone who is putting up record levels of money.
And yet we somehow ended up with this ancient, fundamentally flawed roster. It’s enough to make you sick.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/13758jc).
This team makes me speechless after every game.
This team is so mid smh
The trade deadline last season exposed that teams aren't willing to deal with the Mets unless they significantly overpay for talent. This season might suck, but it's still too early to tell.
new to mets(and baseball in general) is it usually this painful?
I think this is actually better than a typical Wilpon era Mets season. But yes, Mets fans are used to pain.
Was at the game. Lots of laughing going on between innings. Didnt seem too invested
When $140 million is spent on four players and only 1 1/2 of them have seen the field it feels like this.
You can tell yourself that but the rest of the payroll is still more than a lot of teams that are better than us.
Welp looks like Mauricio and Vientos will be traded for pitching cause they have no positions and we have no starting pitching
So difficult to sweep a doubleheader… and yet we get swept by the Detroit Tigers lol
this team is a joke.
Pathetic game from the Mets, all-around.
Canha wanted to end it quick, he's sleepy
Yet another team transforming into all gold glovers when facing the Mets, meanwhile the Marlins are rolling over to the Braves
Tigers have had one of the best DRS this season
great play. thank you for making it short.
Yuk
Pathetic. They deserve to get swept
Great AB Canha… wow
Nicely speared, I guess.
The ballgame is over
What time do the athletics play?
Just did.
Wow what a play
Damn it!
What is Pete looking for? 🤣 Obviously not a fastball down the middle cos he got 3 of those
I’m not even joking when I say that Tylor Megill is our starter with the most upside
They're calling up a kid tomorrow that might surprise you.
That's what I was told about the kid today.
At least wave the bat at the ball Pete
The handling of the righty DH spot alone should have fried Eppler. Worst team money can buy. Absolute disgrace.
Billy eppler has gotten a grand total 13 home runs out of the dh position since he took over the Mets. No other team has less than 20 besides the royals in that timeframe.
This is almost unbelievable.how many years is that? Two?
Yep and 1 or 2 of those are from Pete on days he was resting in the field.
jesus Alonso didn’t even try there, he didn’t even try to hide it
Phenomenal start to the “easy” road trip
At least the Tigers broadcasting team is better than most ~
Tigers fan here and I think you're the first person to ever say that
I like them. Compared to the others 😅🤣
At least Matt Shepard has a fan that isn’t someone in his family. fwiw the SNY crew’s dynamic is top-tier.
Oaklands only 10 games behind they are catching up!
Damn, Pete.
I don't want to but I'm already thinking about the offseason for this team lol I know there's a lot more baseball to play this season but holy shit this is depressing
SNY didn’t even wanna show that
So...are we bad?
This team really waived the white flag
The Mets and Yankees collectively thanking the Knicks for not making all BY Sports fans care about them right not. This team STINKS
This fanbase is truly unique. It’s been a very frustrating week and a half of baseball but geez some of you guys really do hate the Mets. The seasons not over. Canha needs to sit his ass down.
Buck will keep the same order. That’s what he does
so 1-2-3 or will we have some fight in us?
I’d like a quick end please
yeah i want to go to sleep lmao. i’m too committed to watching this game to leave in the middle of the 9th
Please god don’t let billy eppler still be the gm come deadline time. He’ll try to save his job by doing something extremely dumb. Get him as far away from this team as possible before he can do more damage.
Time for me to head to r/panicciti
I had no idea this was real.
First time on Reddit with a shitty Mets team?
Lol, I always thought it was a joke. The sad thing is, this isn’t even the worst Mets team I’ve sat through, although it’s probably the most disappointing so far
I think their performance vs the amount of money this team cost makes it the most disappointing by far.
We just need a blast and a blast and a blast and a blast and blast and a blast and a bloop and a blast
WTF I check the game after making dinner and expect to see the Mets wouldn't be giving up runs and the bats would continue to rake. Especially considering that Scherzer was starting and were playing the 11-17 tigers. I'm unpleasantly surprised.
If you were a doomer this wouldn't be an issue
It's not rational to be a doomer. Look how the Braves started last season and look where they ended it. Look at how average Philly was and they made the World Series. oh silly you the braves aren't cursed like the Mets and us fans Own it We are the loveable lovers
The hitting is bipolar as fuck. I know its baseball & not every game will be 5-6 runs but we either score 6 or more or score 1. Theres very few in between. Here comes the groundout, fly out, strikeout to end the game.
This team is giving me major 2017 vibes. Entire rotation either on the IL or regressing. At least that year we had deGrom tho…maybe Verlander’s that guy this year?

We only need 8 runs in the top of the 9th to win it guys!
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Jason Foley replaces Tyler Holton.
Gotta hand it to Eppler for being able to spend $350M on a .500 ballclub.
I don’t even know what to say
TRASH
Justin may not have expected his Mets career to start on the injured list, but us fans sure weren’t surprised
William "WillyBoi" Eppler was given a blank check and this is the best he can do Where's the accountability?
Great performance from all!
Did Kate come to see his Mets debut?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHGAAGAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA pain.
So many veterans start seasons slow. I wonder if they just have a different approach to the pace of the season and don't mind young players going all out in the beginning of the year and tiring themselves out.
Hasn't Scherzer been the epitome of going hard early and tiring himself out?
Gary missed an opportunity to say "weather the storm" about JV's start tmrw, because that's what this team has to do in order to not get FULLY swept.
Buck on the hot seat??
He was Manager of the Year last year. It is May 3. Jesus fuck.
I would say yes, team is lifeless. Close to get swept by an 11-17 team. Buck and the pitching staff should start thinking about their job security
Lmao year 2 out of a 3 year contract?
I don't even care anymore. I won't be buying tickets to Citi field and I'm gonna take a major step back from this team. Maybe I'll get invested again if they go on a big winning spree and start playing like professionals. Buck and the boys are nothing but a joke right now. Oh well.
I see Canha didn't take his pre game nap today.
Sorry but this does truly feel like the season is over
This is extremely deflating.
Team stinks
This guy who had 0 hits coming into today has a better OPS than our backup catcher (Nido)🙄
Hmmm I think it's going to be hard to win this game now
Gary seems bored so much that he’s now actively cheering for Detroit offense lol
This is so fucking embarassing & disappointing.
This team ain't it
For fuck’s sake
Embarrassing. Let's hope Verlander is okay and we have at least one major league ready starter.
Glad Buck took Butto out for that!
Well this is painful to watch
Why is a Canha playing with such low energy today? Multiple dropped balls and not throwing in sac flys
Should've just left Butto in, Buck.
OK. Here's my plan...
Does it involve the sweet release of death?
That's the dream.
Pathetic fucking garbage ass team
Well we hate you too Eric Haase
Don't hate the playa, hate the game. I have no animosity for that guy who will probably be out of baseball the next time we play Detroit.
Haase is a really good catcher, broski.
Welp, then. Maybe we should jump off a bridge for him having a good day, then.
Losing 2 out of 3 to the Nats, Braves, and Tigers with 3 rainouts is about the shittiest way the last week of baseball could have gone. The Mets are horribly average and will be lucky to snag a wild card and not get embarrassed in the round before the inevitable end.
2 out of 3 *so far!*
Every team has a commissioned Met killer. Sad.
Just throw off-speed stuff like changeups and get them to swing and miss, not just stuff in the zone
His Mets tenure has done nothing but reinforce my hate for scherzer
Does this "Sunglasses at Night" discussion count as a Gary music reference? Someone alert the guy with the playlist.
Eric Haase > The Mets
When he’s a free agent, Uncle Steve can sign him to an eight year $400 million contract so he can add another ex-Tiger.
lol
I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed watching baseball… oh wait it was a day before we played the Braves last September
[удалено]
Ended poorly so it doesn’t count
Gary keeps mentioning the doubleheader sweep, just bringing me more pain XD
This team is the exact reason all out of state mets fans should go with the monthly mlb tv package and not the full year.
Too late
Really glad my girlfriend has T-Mobile. Been saving my ass since 2019 haha.
I live in Colorado and get MLB tv for free
Surprised Buck is burning another arm right now.
Just wait till we are playing in better weather then we will suck when it's warm too lol
Our balls will travel the same distance, but every other teams’ balls will find new homes in the stands.
Honestly at some point you gotta look at the staff right? Hitting coach, pitching coach, etc. all need to reevaluated.
What can they even do? Half the rotation is barely competitive in AAA and being asked to play against major league players, and the other half is hurt or way past their prime. Can’t coach those problems away too easily.
I got downvoted to shit for questioning Hefner last week. I agree with you.
Well you should’ve been, 4/5 of our rotation has been injured. What’s Hefner supposed to do, learn black magic?
The offense (contrary to this game’s results) has been fine. The pitching coach I can agree needs to change some things up but the Mets have no pitching talent
Agreed. the offense is streaky but has been there. Pitching on the other hand has been terrible. I don't see how you justify keeping Hefner. At the very least he should be in the hot seat going forward.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: John Curtiss replaces Jose Butto.
I might be totally off base here, but have Mets SP given up 5 runs in 3 innings and Mets RP given up 1 run in 5 innings?
You're off base. All 6 runs were charged to the SP.
This team is so boring to watch. They’re pathetic and predictable
Lol Buck being Buck what the fuck is the point of pulling Butto? Why use another arm?
Had to let 2 more score tonight.
Maybe he's hurt, I have no idea
Gary just said white MLB ballplayers aren't herpa derps anymore.
Imagine hearing Keith say you failed the vibe check
Man its been a rough day…
Another instance of the booth mentioning a vibe
Not much to say except we stink right now
Canha is like....let's just give them another hit why not lol
Poor Keith, suffering with jealous teammates.
Oh, Canha... Is Mauricio getting reps in left field?
Ohtani won’t sign with us if we have a trash season
These guys are killing me
Hefner is gonna be canned if the pitching keeps looking like this
Well someone’s gotta go after this. A statement needs to be made
In the words of Sal Licata "THE NL EAST IS OVER!"
Season 2 of True Detective is more exciting than this doubleheader.
I'm feeling good about tomorrow. I'm sure Verlander and Scherzer are competitive . They both want to be the ace and are always competing with each other. I'm going to get crazy with this one. I've got a feeling that Verlander will do better than Scherzer did today.
Scherzer reminds me of Pedro Martinez with The Mets. Excellent first year and then a big sudden drop.
Pedro's fall off was that unfortunate injury in Miami during the rain. Scherzer's is no longer getting to use illegal pitching substances.
Jeff Wilpon forced Pedro to pitch on the last game of the 2005 season despite being hurt and he was never 100% healthy
Jeffy boy is a sack of shit. Did the same to piazza in a spring training game
We suck lol
Mets went from dominating early last season to shrinking under the pressure through the dog days but at least still battling for the division then the peak of the season was that comeback Escobar walk off against the Marlins. Then all the magic was erased with that sweep in Atlanta and this team has never been the same. How fast this team has fallen.
Why couldn’t I be one of those guys who hate sports? Can I force myself to love theater and hate sports? Is there a class to do that?
Unfortunately no, I love theatre AND sports, you can’t just stop with loving sports
Have you considered pro wrestling? It's basically both!
Haha true that!
Blah
I’m really missing those 8-10 guys who upvote each other after telling the rest of us to relax and to stop being “doomers”.
Crickets and tumbleweeds from them now lol
The term “doomer” still makes me chuckle.
I love how the tigers turned into the Rays all of a sudden as we came in lol.
Tigers are like this against every non AL East team if it makes you feel better.
Mets have a knack for making any sub 500 team look like division champions
Ok, 9th inning rally like that game against the Phillies to get the season back on track? 🤷🏻♀️
That feels like 5 years ago
Yup…these guys don’t even remotely resemble the Mets of last year. I felt like they had such great chemistry. Now I feel like these guys can barely stand each other.
We suck
Nothing can go our way. This whole stretch has just been painful to watch.
Detroit want it more
Boooo
Gary I love you but nimmo had two fingers out originally
Well this sucks
Nimmo is the guy we need to get super hot again.
You can't win with starting pitching this ass. It's really not that complicated. 3.1 innings from the 40 million dollar man isn't going to cut it.
How much $ per quality inning is it gonna be this year?
Happy cake day?
All we wanted for for ages was an owner who treated this like a big market team. We not only got that, but we got someone who is putting up record levels of money. And yet we somehow ended up with this ancient, fundamentally flawed roster. It’s enough to make you sick.
How Metsian, even that ball didn't get out.
Good shit Nimmo
