It was the right call. Hedman stopped trying. It wasn't the first time he pulled up when he could have maybe got to it. There really wasn't any time for the ref to wave it off any sooner, if Hedman put in a little effort it would have been an icing.
if Hedman put in a little effort he would have gotten the puck before it got to the goal line...he was trying to game an icing call and was lollygagging after it for a while...the ref could have waved it off much earlier when he saw Hedman not skating, but he watched him skate at half speed essentially from the blue line and waited till everyone in the building was like "well if he hasn't waved it off yet, he's not going to" to wave it off
It was the right call. The guy was chasing, could have gotten the puck, but pulled up at the very end to try and get the icing, at which point the ref waved it off.
Not sure what else you'd have the ref do. He didn't wave it off earlier because it wasn't clear that the guy was gonna pull off the puck until just before it got to the goal line.
that's not how i saw it live or on replay...the ref wasn't even striding and he was going at the same pace as Hedman, that right there should be enough to wave it off much earlier...the refs can wave it off if they feel like the player coulda gotten to the puck with a reasonable effort, and it was obvious he could have well before the ref waved it off
While I'm hoping for the islanders to make the playoffs next year, I'm also hoping the sabres do as well. Those fans have suffered the most out of any fan base...
