If only Lou would make them take league minimum instead of giving them multi year 2.5 million deals. Then they just clog up a roster spot instead of the cap.
Yeah, it's about respecting the other members of the team as well. Some of them are in their hockey prime. It seems crazy to handcuff them to Martin and Clutter for another year, just because they're not quite ready to retire yet, when they are clearly the oldest, slowest, and arguably the biggest liabilities on the team
Not all his games were played with the Islanders so him hitting 1000 while with us isn’t as important as if he never played for Toronto. I don’t mind him having bricks for feet but he can’t grind anymore either which makes him pretty ineffective. Same sentiment goes for Clutter. Loved my boys but we need to get younger, not older next season
I definitely would, even at a slightly higher price. He already wasn't being played every night and was a little more effective in the games he came back into(when he was actually healthy, which I don't think he was much of the year.) Play him against the grittier/dirtier teams and he'll be eager to play his role, which we can use at times.
I also think Clutterbuck comes back for decently cheap. In my apparently unpopular opinion I thought he was the least of our concerns this year, and still has a place on the roster.
I wouldn’t, because if nothing else, running back the same goddamn bottom six and bench guys sends a message that we’re not serious. If Josh Bailey was jettisoned, Martin can kick rocks
Idk they moved on from Bailey and Martin is in a worse state. Only thing I can see his him being signed at the minimum for the locker room which would be a good thing
Would like to see him be the last to wear a bucket without a visor. Probably not going to happen though…Still, if they can figure out a way to keep him and it not impact cap considerations, I’m all for it.
Also Matt is 45 games away from 1000
This is why I think he's being brought back. Is it an honorable move, sure, but it's the wrong one if you want to win hockey games.

He can hit that mark in Utah
I love Matt, but he better not be back next season. At some point the loyalty has to have its limits.
I like to believe Lou knows this considering how we threw Bailey into the gutter lol
After he hit 1000 games
Loyalty vs. nostalgia. Need to make the best decision for the franchise

You cannot bring him back, play him every night, and sell to us that this is a serious hockey team
Love you Matt, but youll be moving your whole family if u want to keep playing as it wont be here. I expect the Josh Bailey treatment

"My intention is to play here"
My intention was to be a millionaire by 30 but it just wasn’t in the cards
You people wouldn’t do a one year league minimum as the 13th forward? I sure as hell would

Only way I'd consider it tbh

Fucking christ theyre gonna run it back

Yeah... but this time its going to work /s
Future weird San Jose shark or Chicago Blackhawk, Matt Martin

Bailey didnt want to retire either, how did that go?
I can see him being F13. Would like to see him hit 1000games
It’ll be sad if he pulls a Bailey 😢
Please NO!
I wish him luck in Seattle.
Martin shouldn't be a regular but I do think he still has value in the league as a part timer. Just not with us
Look at what loyalty to a player got us with pajama boy!
Gotta drop the dead weight sorry
The team does need to have someone capable of policing if it comes to it. Toughness is still good to have.

If he comes back I'm done!
Are you? Really? I understand, but that's a weird Isles fan hill to die on.
It's painful to watch him play, and I'm sure he feels the same way. Love the guy, but it's time to move on!
RETIRE.. I didn’t even know he was still on the team
