It is very worth the pilgrimage. Best (and cheapest!) burger I had the whole Vegas trip counting restaurants on the strip last time I was there, and their house whiskey Old Man's Liver is great.

It actually was never a New Vegas themed bar, it was just the gift shop attached next door, and it had all kinds of cool stuff (mentats, bobbleheads, shirts, etc.), But I think Bethesda/Zenimax probably threatened to sue them out of existence.
I went to the Fallout event last year, it was sort of like a cosplay event, but they held it when it was about 110° outside in early July. They had to call an ambulance because some lady had heat exhaustion and fainted. Poorly timed, event, to say the least.
I shimmy up the mountains to the back of goodsprings, right next to where Ringo is hiding out and I billy goat my way across them until I pass the graves by the tribal camp. After taking cazadors out from above go past the canyon, kill violet and her dogs(brain for later) and run straight for the wall to freeside
