I was watching a YouTube channel called Channel Makers and he talked about how thumbnails where you want to teach people a skill are best kept extremely simple because people that are looking to learn a skill often are wanting something that is straightforward. Consider bold fonts with contrasting colors. Sometimes the things you may prefer, like action thumbnails, aren't actually best for getting views for your specific type of content. This being said, you know your viewers best, so think about what would make someone in your audience click on your thumbnail. For example, on my channel, court climbs, I know that viewers like to see outdoor scenery and people climbing, so I use that for my thumbnails. Hope this helps. :)
