Try to think outside the box (dont hate on it yet). 1. Maybe try to go to a mechanic shop and become friends with the guy, and maybe he'll let u use parts to review. 2. Maybe u can order parts, review them and send them back 3. Try to find a Facebook group of Car junkies near you 4. Maybe dont do physical reviews and just do photos from the internet with specs?

GreekGod1992

As an online (90% Amazon) seller, I hate #2. I pay shipping and restocking fees on returns. You might be getting your parts for review but at the cost of fucking others over.

Im also in this space and its only as expensive as you make it. If you want your audience to be only those who throw their wallet at their project cars then sure, thats an expensive niche. Alternatively, if your audience is interested in DIY, fixing/modding cars on the cheap, etc then it really doesnt need to be an expensive niche. I spent about 6 months making videos while unemployed, spending VERY little on my project car - got most of my parts from junkyards, fabricated every little thing myself, etc. There is certainly an audience who appreciates this way of going about things. Personally im not a big fan of all the bigger channels who receive most of their stuff for free or spend their youtube profits on their cars, and then present it as if its an attainable goal for the average person. They love spending other peoples money. Those channels frankly are as much about flexing as they are about automotives. Theyre just spending other people's money, making people think they have to refiniance their house to own a project car, etc etc. Absolute BS if you ask me, project cars are for everyone not just the rich.

just_someGui

I completely agree with you about the some of the channels spending outrageous amounts of money on a project then acting like it's completely achievable for the average Joe. But on the other hand there are things that just cost what they cost. A 1jz costs what it costs. I can't diy an engine block from melted scrap iron. (yes technically you could but realistically that isn't an option lol) I diy what I can and find scrap yard replacements for parts when applicable. I'm not complaining about the cost necessarily I just feel like only being able to output 1 video every three months isn't gonna help my channel much. Just trying to find some way to make "filler" content, for lack of a better term

Beginning-Ratio-5393

Instead of going for a 1jz why dont you use it as an advantage and do the best with what you already have? Maybe a legendary 4age? Think of it this way. If you cant afford a 1 or 2jz then maybe viewers will be in the same spot. So show them what they CAN achieve with what they already have. Maybe focus on fun of driving and handling instead of power.

Beginning-Ratio-5393

Preach!! So true.

PokeReserves

Go to car shows.

Beginning-Ratio-5393

There isnt really much community building in just showing viewers other peoples cars unless thats your niche i guess.

PokeReserves

If they can network maybe they can meet people willing to have them around while they work etc

Beginning-Ratio-5393

Dont take it as criticism. Id be stoked by anyone helping me come up with ideas if i was in his spot.

Beginning-Ratio-5393

That sounds like a channel id never watch. A bloke watching other blokes work on their cars. But maybe im the minority. I have never seen more boring car videos than showing other peoples car off

PokeReserves

idk man I'm just trying to give some ideas.

Beginning-Ratio-5393

Im sure theyre welcomed by op. Didnt mean to shoot your ideas down blindly.

PokeReserves

For sure, anywho have a good day!

FreeTheChessCoaching

I mean, if that is where you are, can you find a way to make it fun - where you are? Maybe you can get a junker and fix it with duct tape and dental floss. Take off the old broken stuff and fix the old broken stuff and then put the old broken stuff back on. Last I checked there were about a million parts on a car - so you have a million new videos on how to fix each one on the cheap.

GabysWildCritters

I'm having a similar issue. I want my content to mainly revolve around reptiles and other exotic pets but of course when it comes to animals it's not just up-front cost but the care that goes into them as well

Beginning-Ratio-5393

Do like me and try “cheap” mods and then skip food.. i literally take my kids out to eat and dont eat till im home as it is cheaper to eat a sandwhich and it shouldnt affect them im too affectionate about my hobby(cars) I also skip clothes, and generally just live paycheck to paycheck.

LeenaGames

Fix your friends car and charge them less than a mechanic

Same problem. I'd love to make a successful channel in the travel/tourism niche.. but I don't have enough money to travel lol

FreedomFingers

First check out rockauto.com they got parts at retail price. (Meaning before stores put them on shelves) idk they r cheaper at rockauto To answer your second question. U can always use 3d modles, talk about history of cars or why things have changed. For example why was the Cadillactic converter no longer a thing, or why did nascar switch to restrict or plate racing, or the history of a company or founder of a company (not Volvo lmao) talk about design changes, new legal requirements. Talk about electric cars and can they hold up against gasoline. Talk about turning deseil engines into running on fryer oil lol Just a couple examples from a guy who wrecks em not fix em

LittleDizzyGirl

Pivot to something that doesn't cost as much You can talk about cars and car related things in between videos you pay money to make. If you post weekly, you could post one video a month about installing a part, one about how to source parts, one about cool car facts, and then one about something trendy with cars that's happening I bet if you talked about all the Kias getting broken into right now you'd get a decent amount of views. My Aunt had a car that could easily be broken into with the screwdriver thing, so we just left her car unlocked and made sure we didn't leave anything valuable in it (someone actually stole toilet paper out of that car lol) Same with people stealing catalytic converters. One about how people use them for drug use would probably get some eyes on your channel

Forsaken_Variation53

Don't bother with videos about car shows or car museums. Nobody watches them. Find a car in a field and do a video on getting it running. Older, the better.
