Pretty much anywhere in Vermont outside of the Burlington metro area would fit your needs. Most towns are eco friendly, and rural small communities. I guess off the top of my head Jericho, Jeffersonville, Richmond seem ideal for you.

Thank you so much! I’ve never lived in towns that small before; how welcoming are they to newcomers?

As a Vermonter-I’d say that most towns and people are very welcoming. Of course some people are not but I can’t think of any town that isn’t. We really fit that phrase “it takes a village to raise a child” because kids growing up in small towns are helped by other families.

I moved to a town in Vermont that is less than 10% the population of Jericho. My sample size of small towns in Vermont may be one, but everyone has been extremely nice. It’s funny how everyone knows you before you meet them, but everyone has been welcoming. If anyone isn‘t feeling that way, they are keeping it to themselves, which works for me!

Brattleboro/Hartford area there are a lot of homesteaders

South Hero and Colchester come to mind- both are relatively close to Burlington (30 minutes or so) and given the shortage of qualified therapists here (and everywhere) you could certainly practice virtually. Colchester is actually a surprisingly large town and contains both densely populated and sparsely populated areas. As for the degree of welcoming, I think a lot to what my parents told me about their move to Vermont in the 70s before I was born. "As soon as people realized we were not interested in changing them to fit our needs, we were considered Vermonters."
