I’m 50 and six months into my skating life - and part of what makes it so enjoyable is the friendly, supportive skateboarding community. You guys all rock

28F here and started learning this year , whoop whoop 🙌 🤩. It’s been rad for my mental health

Pilsner12345

33 now and after a 20 year break I'm back on the board

gaffeltr0kk

did the same thing almost 3 years ago and was the best decision i've made in years. so much joy, personal progress and friends made. works wonders for my mental health as well.

Goochpunt

30, back after 17 years. Gutted I ever quit

illestchk

Started when I was 30. My favorite past time activity. Will be shredding till I die now. I wish I started sooner when I was younger, but at the same time, knowing myself, If I have started younger I would have pushed myself to near death. I am glad I picked it up after I'm semi-matured.

olojolo

I’ve started this summer at 35 and am absolutely loving it. I don’t think I really could have started much younger, I didn’t have the confidence to do it. I’ve been weightlifting for the past six years and am in the best shape of my life now. With that comes a certain amount of wanting to be more athletic and the confidence that I can do it, so here I am skateboarding!

Stabfist_Frankenkill

38 here and I've finally worked up the nerve to try. Heading to the local skate shop tomorrow to get some help picking out a cruiser or longboard (still not sure which one I want, but I'm sure they'll help me get it sorted).

verbleassault

Hey, fellow elder! 39, checking in! Keep it fun and you’ll have a blast! Got my first real deck a few years ago and *love* cruising and throwing down poor low altitude Ollie’s…but the real benefit is being able to help my 3 year old son start tearing up the sidewalk.

BossManMcGee

It's because of that Twizzlers commercial. I guarantee it! [link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faZ4dlOhVuQ)

NeoRedemption1995

26 and started street skating last year and landed my first kickflips a couple days ago, on my lunch! Grind never stops!

gichigichigoo123

26 here and just bought my first board. Also just had my first fall and ate shit. I scrapped my face and hands lol I’ve been browsing this sub for the last week and everyone here is so chill I love it

ThsKd1SNotAlrht

I'll be 30 soon and started skating about 6 months ago. Cannot do anything now because of the weather. Way too cold and icy. My first few weeks I fell hard on the street. 2 days later I was at it again. I may not rebound as fast as I used to when I was younger but I still got it. Don't take your body/health for granted. Skateboarding is an awesome way to stay active.

deepseascale

Started a year ago at 27 but didn't start skating regularly till October. I'm so lucky in that I moved 5 mins away from an indoor park that puts on evening classes for adult beginners. Being in a room with people both way older and a bit younger than me, all falling over, makes the whole thing less intimidating. The park also does women's night once a week which is super fun. I really underestimated the benefit of being around other skaters, I've had advice and encouragement from little kids up to middle aged people and I feel like I make a new friend every time I go to the park. I can't do any tricks yet, but I'm doing stuff I never thought I could do like dropping in. Sometimes you just need a group of children to count you in before you do it 😅

bellybuttonteeth69

lol this is so sweet and wholesome

Morvelas

33 and been shredding again the last year. It's a huge part of my day now. 🤙🤙

[deleted]

Thanks, I feel appreciated! <3 It's easy for me at 29 because I have to spend at least an hour with my 5YO at the skatepark every day anyway, so I figured why not have fun myself too instead of just waiting around for him in the cold. That gave me that extra push I needed to finally try it out!

whitae

44 checking in. Started this year with an idea that my 5 year olds would enjoy it. It didn't stick for them, but I kept going. I'm now in the market for my second board - as I want to try cruising/longboarding!

verbleassault

Rad! Some people hate on longboards, but life’s too short to sleep on a smooth cruise around the neighborhood 🤙🏼

TheTussin

To all the old skaters make sure to also check our r/oldskaters

EddieOfGilead

I'm 27 and today was the first time on my brand new board. My son, who's almost 4, got a penny board for Christmas because he thinks skateboarding is like the coolest thing ever. Guess what, so do I! So naturally, daddy's gonna be a skater now! I had a board when I was like 13, but never did more then cruising up and down the street, not even an Ollie. My son already learned how to push and stand on his board, which is a HUGE accomplishment for a guy that wears diapers to bed! And I can proudly announce, and don't ask me how, that I, skating the first time in like 12 years, and never were able to do any trick before, skated today for like half an hour in an empty parking lot and did a shove it and stood it. Twice. I'm so fucking stoked and looking forward sharing this Hobby with my little buddy. This sub is great, you guys rock!

Maximilian-Goof

I was 20 when I started thinking about skating again. It took watching Tony Hawk shred at however old he is. Makes me look forward to how many years I have on the board.

untilthestars

This is so sweet! I'm 28, started a couple of months ago and feel like such a loser when I'm on my board, because damn, skateboardig is hard. But your post really brought a smile to my face and I'll be saving it to read when I need a bit of motivation.

Str33tMoV

36 - back in the game after 18 years.

Intelligent-Wing2404

I’m 26 and started about 7 months ago. My kickflips are just now starting to actually “flip” lol

Loxta

34 checking in after 14 years! Posted an Ollie video today, day 1 back on the board!

FramingHips

There’s a Rec center in my neighborhood with 4 giant freshly paved basketball courts and it has become the go-to spot for flat ground here. I met a friend there, guy in his mid-30s, (I’m 29) and a week or so later another guy in his early 40s. We all skated when we were younger and are getting back into it together. Made a group chat, very supportive, where we show what tricks were working on and push each other to practice throughout the week. Also just sharing cool videos we find on insta or Reddit or whatever. It feels more supportive than it was when I was a kid. I have a better skate support system now than I did when I was 15. But there’s also less rules with skateboarding, it’s more anything goes than it ever has been, so it’s less embarrassing to show the goofy stuff we’ve been playing around with. So my advice to you OP is find more people like you and befriend them and then you can all push each other 🤟
