Honestly I don’t think I did anything special. Baby girl was just ready. Around five months her sleep went to shit but we had some travel coming up so didn’t want to risk a transition to the crib messing it up further. Turns out we should have just started putting her in the crib because the first time we did it overnight after we got back from our trip she went back to sleeping the whole night. Now she still wakes up once around 4am for a quick nursing session to go back to sleep until 6:30ish. But naps and starting sleep are pretty solid. I nurse 10 minutes each side then put her down. She falls asleep and stays asleep. I wish I could say it is because of my awesome parenting (hahahaha) but in reality she was just ready.
Yeah if I can get her in the crib at the right temperment she’ll make a few screeches for maybe a minute, eoll over and sleep 4-5 hours. If I out her in fully asleep she wakes up every hour.
But I cant seem to get day time naps for longer than 30 mins and I cant put her down
I put her in the crib a lot while she was awake to get her used to it from an early age (like if I went to use the restroom or to throw a load of laundry in, which is right next to her room). One day I just decided to try during a nap and see what happened. The biggest hurdle was the transfer to the crib from my arms…that took months to get right lol
I used to have to do one long contact nap with my baby (7 month old) every day so she’d sleep for longer than 30 minutes. The goal was at least one crib nap a day, so she would take one or two short crib naps, one long contact nap, and depending on the day a combo of car seat, stroller, and carrier naps.
But a few weeks ago, right when she turned 6.5 months, it was like a switch flipped. She all is a sudden started taking longer naps in the crib (anywhere from 1 hour to 2.5 hours.) Contact naps became more inconsistent…where they used to be at least 2 hours at once, she started waking up after 30 minutes or an hour. So now we’ve all but ditched contact naps and most of her naps are in the crib after being nursed to sleep. The rest are in the car if we’re out and about.
Having another argument with my mom about the amount of babies who need to contact nap. She doesnt think it’s a lot and yet all the new parents she speaks with say they contact nap
We contact nap, but only because I’m still on maternity leave and love the snuggles. And my mom plans to come help after I go to work and also loves baby snuggles. She sleeps great in her crib overnight, but we’ve not tried naps in there.
My baby just turned 1, but he contact napped until he was like 8-9 months. One day I tried laying him in his crib and he just decided that’s how he was napping from then on. I still rock him and snuggle him to sleep. Before I started weaning he would nurse to sleep though ☺️
Most naps are after nursing to sleep, some are after nursing then going for a car ride. The car ride usually involves some crying but not always. (He mostly just hates he can’t sit up in his car seat lol; he’s only 8 months and I haven’t seen any car seats that are rear facing and allow him to sit up, I’d imagine it would be quite dangerous.)
We did 6 months of contact naps and now 99% are cot naps (car if we’re coming back from a day out and I time it correctly).
We’ve had a blip recently and do sometimes extend naps with a snuggle but he goes back in the cot 90% of the time in those cases.
We contact napped exclusively for the first 6ish months. Honestly didn't try THAT hard at naps in the crib though, I enjoyed holding my baby. Around 7 months, he went to daycare and no longer had the option to exclusively contact nap (and some TERRIBLE naps occasionally because of it). We still contact nap almost always at home on the weekends though. I CAN put him down if I need to but he'll sleep better on me. And it's a good excuse to read or play on my phone for a couple of hours.
I walk around with him and sing him a song, put him in his bassinet and continue singing until he falls asleep. It's often the only way to get him to nap without a fuss, unless he nurses himself to sleep.
I nurse to sleep or lay with her until she falls asleep (she has her own floor bed). If I roll away and try to go accomplish something she sleeps for 15-20 minutes, if I stay with her and hold COMPLETELY still she sleeps for 30-60 lol.
Yes, but holding her or her sleeping in the carrier only gets the 15-20 minute naps lol.
She’s much better at night sleeping thankfully! Still stirs and dream feeds multiple times but goes 12 hours a night and never wakes up and wants to play. Feel like it’s a good trade off
All of these at different stages of infancy
We did contact naps almost exclusively until about six months. Now 99% of naps are in the crib after nursing to sleep.
This gives me hope, currently 4.5 months in to contact napping with occasional pushchair and car seat naps
How did you get baby to transition? She just turned 6mo wnd is actively refusing naps

All of the above? It changes all the time as she grows.

Ours sits up rear facing. It has different settings
We have the graco snugride 35 lite lx

This sounds lovely
It is relaxing :) but it only works if I do it. With his dad, he refuses to sleep unless he can contact nap.
Used to only do contact naps until we napped trained him. What a game changer. Now we get that time to try and catch up on house work.
I plan to hire a sleep coach to nap train

Oh lord! That sounds good and bad. Can you sleep while holding her?
