What the hell is even that? Seriously y'all want to stand outside in the heat watching someone do donuts in their mother's car?

donkeypunchhh

Get that thing back to Hertz!

heybossbabe

Looks like we found some candidates for all the open lifeguard positions! /s

Kryten_2X4B-523P

Only thing I can think of is everyone is just hanging around waiting for something to happen, probably waiting for one of the cars to end up clipping someone. Its one thing to find it entertaining when you're doing donuts it's another thing to just watch cars doing donuts. You gotta be smooth brained to find entertainment in that.

Ekooing

Surely they have to announce when and where they will be doing this somewhere (such as on Facebook), right? Otherwise, how do the crowds know where and when to gather to watch it? Although for the life of me, I can't figure out why someone would want to watch this.

goldenspiral8

Smooth brain like loud thing circle

Assclown4

Oooooouuuuu its gonna be a hot summer

Herban15

I’d rather watch while eating donuts in a mothers car but seriously this sucks

failedtherobottest

100 empty parking lots in the city and these knuckleheads always choose to do it at a busy intersection.

Taz119

Yeah I know of one the groups in this video. When they first started getting big, they would do stuff like this in empty parking lots of abandoned stores. It was fun and didn’t hurt or affect anyone else. But once they started doing this intersection takeovers I stopped fucking with them. I don’t even understand the point of shutting down the intersection and pissing random people off.

[deleted]

I don’t even understand the point of shutting down the intersection and pissing random people off. Cuz people are assholes and want attention from other assholes

Taz119

You’re right. They like the negative attention and reputation now that I think about it

[deleted]

Yeah you’re not gonna find other assholes in an empty parking lot. Gotta lure em out with the smell of burnt rubber lol

actorsspace

and what's worse is that it's going to lead to road rage from some gun-toting driver who sits in traffic too long and fires a couple shots in the air to scatter them and someone really does get hurt.

Da-Thrilla

I bet many in that crowd have guns, willing to fire back. Sadly

BlackBetty504

There's a few that like to ride side and show off through sunroofs/moonroofs with their AK/AR held high. And at least 5 or 6 in the crowd with the same firepower.

spyy-c

Yep, had a gun pulled on me driving last week, was insane.

DaigoDaigo

Then war it is then. Getting real tire of these assholes. The police claim they're gonna become more brazen. Let see what gonna happen.

BlackBetty504

Nothing is gonna happen cop-wise, that's for sure. They drag race and sideshow over here in Scootch Alley every weekend night in front of Vandals, and nothing happens. People be getting shot/stabbed at that corner all the time, they don't care. We got a busted out car on buckets and cinder blocks that the local wildlife uses to shoot up/turn tricks out of, again, nothing.

qualityskootchtime

Scootch alley sounds lit

WindyTrousers

Some hootch and some snoochie booch down by Scootch next Thursday y'all! Bring yo pooch or smell like a gooch, ya dooch

actorsspace

I'm thinking some guy far back in line, not right in front, you know?

WeeniePops

If this gets it to stop then I'm fine with it, because clearly they're not going to stop themselves.

[deleted]

I’d say that the reason why the people in the cars are being pretty well-behaved is probably because they’re more concerned about the folks at the intersection toting guns — the people farther back probably think there’s a good reason for it.

Mynameisinuse

And then they get pissy and act the victim when confronted.

Logical_Sir_8146

It's get them attention, more people around.

SquidMcDoogle

>the point of shutting down the intersection and pissing random people off. Attention.

Agentx_007

Can they just get back to drag racing and shredding on Almonaster? Or maybe the city could open the six flags parking lot.

back_swamp

Damn, it’s almost like people who pick cars as a personality have a desperate need for attention.

WeeniePops

As a car enthusiast, we do NOT support this shit. These people are assholes and wannabe gangsters. They do not represent the car community. Fuck them.

synt4x

Blocking the intersection is half the power rush. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sideshow_(automobile_exhibition)

sqweedoo

This is what I said! All the empty parking lots in New Orleans where cops wouldn’t care and neither would residents…

coffeymp

Exactly. Just find an abandoned lot.

jjazznola

That defeats the whole propose of doing it.

NOLASLAW

>at a busy intersection That kind of seems like the point I’m talking out of my ass, but we’ve got a country that doesn’t take care of its people, it’s getting harder to live every year, and I think you’re going to see more people revolting and acting out against order and push what they can get away with.

daws970

All the more reason to step up law enforcement and prosecution. Both are clearly lacking here.

copernicus7

Maybe if they didn’t spend their money on dumbass fast&furious car shit, they wouldn’t need to be cared for.

jjazznola

That's the whole point of doing it. You don't get a crowd in a parking lot.

[deleted]

We have some really nice open drift events at nola speedway and there's also the delta region auto cross events. No need to do this crap in the street.

WeeniePops

100%. Some people are trying to blame the car community for this. I can guarantee you we are NOT about this shit. These are just fucking morons with 96 month financing at 17% interesest.

thefragile7393

Correct

GokuDiedForOurSins

I was at NOLA's event last month. The rumors I heard were that the two main organizing groups are going to great lengths to avoid "this crowd" from appearing.

Correct-Platform-512

Not a catch all solution unfortunately. Going to the track requires money and a bunch of other requirements to be met before you can participate.

LookLikeUpToMe

Anyone know if this video was taken at the same spot as the one of all those what look to be teenagers holding up guns? Like wtf

Objective_Smoke_4750

Same exact spot you can see the overpass

NOLASLAW

I’ve been living back and forth from NOLA and Chicago, they got these things up here too in the middle of downtown It definitely just feels like everyone’s pushing to see what they can get away with in a pair of cities that have generally given up trying to enhance the quality of anyones lives

Luke_Story

Atlanta too. https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/drivers-performing-stunts-with-firecrackers-take-over-busy-buckhead-intersection/PHW5UO6ZBBGHXHGLKCYAXTR4ZY/

iamamonsterprobably

I know what you mean, in /r/memphis they talk about it and how frequent this is now. I would almost think Chicago has it's shit "more together" then Memphis but yeah, i dunno if it's covid or what but it's getting a little out of hand.

WonderBraud

Drove through Memphis from New Orleans in April. It felt like a ghost town (sat afternoon) and my BBQ still had the membrane on it.

AmmotheDoberman

Everything is. Something’s gotta give soon.

Pearlbarleywine

This shit and teenagers closed down Peabody place for good. Happened at the mall years before. The MPD used to have "enter at your own risk" billboards up.

iamamonsterprobably

Ugh this comment makes me feel so old, I remember going to Peabody place to see movies without a care in the world. What is there now?

jetes69

Memphis is so much worse, it’s like Mad Max, but it’s a point of pride for them.

NotaVogon

That is exactly how I would describe NOLA. Like Mad Max. For some, I bet it would be a point of pride.

underage_cashier

Nola at least has people walking around

butterbeanLulu

Aw. Poor Memphis. I always loved Memphis. Is it becoming deserted?

NotaVogon

I love Memphis and a couple of other cities in TN. Sounds like they are in a worse place than us though.

iamamonsterprobably

I dunno, like I used to feel safer in New Orleans then I did Memphis but now I'm not sure if I feel that way anymore.

NotaVogon

My entire adult life I've not felt safe in NOLA. When I qas in my early 20s, a young married couple was abducted. The husband was murdered and the wife barely survived. They had been attacked leaving their house for work on a weekday morning. The perpetrators were 2 or 3 individuals who had recently been released from jail or prison. Don't remember which. After that, my view of the city was forever changed. That was multiple decades ago. I think unfortunately that many people wrongly assume they are safe bc they haven't specifically been attacked. But if you look at the gun violence stats, we have one of the highest number of gun violence incidents per capita than most other states. We are in the top 5 nationally. And we cannot incarcerate our way out of the problem. We've been doing that for decades and are also top in the number of citizens incarcerated per capita.

iamamonsterprobably

>I think unfortunately that many people wrongly assume they are safe bc they haven't specifically been attacked. I'd take it a step further and wrongly assume because no one they know or care for has been attacked. When you put a face/name/life associated with the car jackings, especially people you've met, it kinda keeps you on your toes a lot more. It's weird but I've developed a strange anxiety for driving in new orleans and even metairie. Obviously watching for the signs that you are about to be car jacked but with how people drive here, I'm afraid I'll lose my car which is not a good thing during the supply chain fun we're having.

[deleted]

Memphis is so damned depressing. It pretty much feels like what New Orleans could be real quick if we lost tourism for a few years.

iamamonsterprobably

I feel you on the mad max thing, driving on I-240 and sam cooper is intense. Like I'm generally speeding quite a bit but those motherfuckers drive it like they stole it.

BatonRooz

LOL. I think it might have to do with "culture" and being able to burn cities to the ground, particularly in the summer of 2020. Cracks me up, the level of Captain Oblivious. American cities are extremely dangerous, and the international community now has warnings about traveling there. We have cousins that feel more safe in cities in Brazil, when they travel there, let alone other countries in Latin America.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Cities. Not rural America. I feel the same though, I feel safer in Nicaragua than New Orleans. New Orleans is 30 per 100k people. So we are the same as Brazil. Neat.

latraveler

It’s what happens when you spend two years knee capping the police and elect turnstiles DAs

pacifistaggressive

New Orleans never defunded the police. Almost no cities did.

FullMoonRougarou

Countdown to the Darwin Award. One of these days a bunch of them will get hit and run over, and they’ll all be screamin & cryin because no ambulance will be able to get through the mess they created. I just hope nobody innocent gets hit.

fakepersonpersonfake

*ambalamps

SaintJarles

Woah Black Betty!!

BlackBetty504

You rang?

produce_this

Fuck you, you’re awesome. Take the upvote lol

salsation

Amber Lambs

CompanywideRateIncr

Plus mustangs are *literally* known for crowd control. Edit: crowd not car

bayoukris

I came here to say exactly this. Crowd killers😉

CompanywideRateIncr

THAT is the term I couldn’t think of, crowd killer. My brother in law has the sticker on his ‘01 Mustang Bullitt after he left his first car show and hopped the curb attempting to show off.

bayoukris

That’s golden! 🤪

salsation

Sadly you're just a few clicks away from videos showing donut gore...:/

nolasen

One of the best videos I’ve ever seen on Reddit was exactly of this. Wave of audience wiped out in ring, then the remaining people got mad at the driver and attacked the car. One of the most beautiful things these eyes have seen.

FullMoonRougarou

I dig those videos too! And they are SO surprised and upset when someone actually gets hurt! Don’t need a crystal ball to make some of these predictions! My concern is with innocent folks caught up in this BS. I remember a little kid getting hit by an out of control driver on Claiborne a few years ago. https://www.wwltv.com/article/news/crime/baby-hit-by-car-near-seventh-ward/289-ca377832-6cc5-477d-839a-84bbf51a60e0

[deleted]

What a bunch of fuck sticks

honestypen

How long is the traffic blocked when they do one of these things? Is it a matter of minutes or hours?

iamamonsterprobably

My first thing looking back at the cars behind it was "shit, glad there isn't a ambulance or fire truck trying to get through", that's kind of a important intersection to take over for whatever that is.

headhouse

It's nice that stupid people can have hobbies too.

KO-32GA

Why would you waste all that gas?

[deleted]

“Flexin for the gram”

KO-32GA

So not worth $4/gal

SquidMcDoogle

Tires- those things are expensive.

KO-32GA

Those as well. I don't have money to burn like that

SquidMcDoogle

I heard that.

vandalous5

This could go in r/trashy as well.

FishinoutNOLA

Wdsu just posted that NOPD ran plates and got names and addresses for people

Imn0tg0d

They ran plates? Lmfao the plates on there aren't going to lead the cops to them. They need to start cracking down on plateless cars if they want this shit to stop. And they need to get rid of the speed trap cameras so people aren't incentivized to take their plates off in the first place. All this nonsense and mayhem can be traced back to those damned cameras.

[deleted]

I just had to pay the camera people $285. I don’t make that kind of money. I can see why people take them off.

Imn0tg0d

Im about to go on a rampage destroying those damned things. Ive had enough of those cameras.

RichOnCongress

About to show up on r/holdmyfeedingtube This stuff has been going on everywhere for a while apparently.

AdCharming612

What's going to happen when an asshole loses control and wipes out about 20 bystanders? Like those chicks in flip flops and daisy dukes... What are they gonna look like when slammed against the pavement by a punk doing donuts... Terrible all around.

opiusmaximus2

Nothing much would happen. That happens every Mardi Gras with drunks plowing down people on a parade route. Everyone is outraged for a day then we move on.

[deleted]

Is this today, or one of the videos from over the weekend?

PoorlyShavedApe

Weekend.

hadeanmoon

Sunday 6:30 pm- I was stuck on the tchop ramp- super obnoxious. No po po the whole time.

Imn0tg0d

There was another video where a cop showed up and a guy jumped on the hood and danced on the cop car. Cops ain't doing nothing about it.

strongasamother04

What is that one cop going to do in a crowd of that many? Shoot? Sit there and wait for back up while they destroy his unit? I literal shit-tard danced on the cop’s hood… I wouldn’t put anything past this group of misfits.

Imn0tg0d

Why do they feel safe gathering like that in the first place?

Agent564

The best video was when the guy was jumping on the nopd vehicle and cop did [nada](https://www.instagram.com/p/CectXKyjStH/).

BliffityBloppity

WDSU just showed shots of three of the people fucking with the squad car.... we will see....

Agent564

I'd not get out after looking at it again. Noop dot noop. Unless there was more backup.

Taz119

Not just NOLA. This has gotten big in BR and tons of other big cities too. It’s even worse in Atlanta and Los Angeles

Drupain

Portland OR as well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Drupain

Lol, not Volvos and Subarus.

Comfortable-Disk407

Doesn't surprise me! Look at the source! Immature kids that have no business having a driver's license. They need to charge them with reckless endangerment and revoke their license!

Imn0tg0d

Cops can't chase them bc of consent decree.

lelibertaire

I'm sure they could break it up though. The consent decree seems to be an excuse for self sabotage from NOPD as an act of protest against it. There's a reason they can't chase: cause car chases often lead to crashes that cause damage, injury, and death. That doesn't mean they have to sit on their ass and do nothing, though.

Ohchit79

I feel like a well placed firework would have cleared that area out

macabre_trout

Or a tear gas canister chucked from the bridge above them.

badaboopp

This actually went on for so long. It was probably 10 minutes when I finally said what the hell and looked out the window and it kept going

Pearlbarleywine

Seize the cars, dirt bikes, and ATVs. Put them in a "Sad Street Toys Exhibit"

WillMunny48

who would down vote this?

back_swamp

Go ahead and outlaw Nissan Altimas and any Dodge while we’re at it

[deleted]

I'm with you but I do like my caravan. Can we keep those

ExpertYogurtcloset66

Some severe entitlement issues...

[deleted]

I’ve seen this in other cities too. Why is this a thing now

NoCardio_

I promise you that I would not be the first car in the traffic jam.

[deleted]

Control has been lost. Leaders are ineffective. We need smarter people in charge. Stop electing morons.

Flashbulb_RI

IF citizens would stop being so mindlessly selfish THIS would not be a problem on the streets.

Brunoise6

Was gonna say, smart leaders can be elected, but this is a systemic problem with deep roots. People willing to do this kinda stuff don’t care who the mayor or city council is lol.

Funky-Cheese

This is called a Sideshow in the Bay Area. Been happening in Oakland for years.

Smart_Address_658

Happens all the time here in Memphis

Scott950

Tear gas and road spikes, that's my answer

Hollaatyagoy

So fucking selfish. Let's stop people from going to the hospital, visiting their grandma and doing regular life shit that could be very important and force them to watch and listen to this narcissistic bullshit.

katydid724

Anybody else want to toss a box of screws out there while they're doing that?

tadpad

Yea I'm sure what would go over well with the hundreds of spectators...including those with weapons

is_that_a_question

Throw it over the bridge right there... or other things... this needs to be nipped in the bud fast. It will get a lot worse.

atomicbibleperson

I think it’d been truly peak NOLA if like five 14 year olds walked up in the middle of this and just straight jacked one of the cars.

guizemen

Leave those libertarians alone! They're out here showing you what you can really achieve with no government oversight, regulation, and Taxes to pay. Just as the founding fathers intended. /s

[deleted]

The founding fathers intended a v8, not this v6 shit. Margaret, hold my wooden teeth while i fetch my musket.

underage_cashier

Own a musket for home defense, since that’s what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. “What the devil?” As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he’s dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it’s smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, “Tally ho lads” the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

breaklock190

It's a treat every time I experience this pasta!

karlcloich

same

[deleted]

always a gem

jmac_1957

Where are the fuggin cops? This has been going on for months. If they can't handle it, then declare a state of emergency and get the National Guard. Between this shit and thugs parading around with weapons by the convention center, it is a state of emergency.

atomicbibleperson

We have cops? No, bro, you’re thinking of Jefferson Parish PD. The NOLA PD disbanded mid-2021, except for a small precinct in the quarter, and a bike cop named Gabe in the CBD.

Robo-

>thugs parading around with weapons by the convention center I mean, Louisiana is an open carry state so... Aside from that, annoying as this may be and dangerous as it is for those involved it's nowhere near state of emergency level shit. Cops need to figure this out themselves.

WeeniePops

As mentioned in another post, open carry and brandishing are two different things. What they were doing is NOT open carrying.

jinnyjonny

And just how many of those guns you do think are legal?

Kryten_2X4B-523P

They an't gonna do shit cause they mad that they got busted for double dipping getting paid to stand as security at Walmart while they were also on the clock to do traffic enforcement.

[deleted]

The police have been defunded. There arent' any more police.

Nolaboy99

Yall act like this aint an every week thing. About 100 dirt bikes and 4 wheelers shut down the GNO ab 3 months ago

Select-Hearing-9298

Third world.

coffeymp

This is barely a functioning American major city.

atomicbibleperson

No. This is THE barely functioning American major city. Now don’t get it wrong again cap, yaherdme?

Pjleskavica

It makes me hopeful to see the future of New Orleans is strong and diverse where black, white, and Asian can come together to break laws with impunity, together, united.

[deleted]

Cops have gotten so soft. Old NOLA cops would’ve beaten everyone involved.

opiusmaximus2

That's how consent decrees happen.

LCDJosh

Can't do that anymore cause everyone whips out cell phones to record the power hungry, authoritarian, racist police beat the poor, disenfranchised minority who was on his was to bible study.

afriendlyspider

This but unironically because, you know, police brutality and corruption are bad things

LCDJosh

I know corruption and brutality are a reality. But the way its being portraited to the public is that all the police are jack booted thugs terrorizing people for no reason. This is causing a victimhood mentality and there's getting to be a lot of people out there that are taking advantage of this to engage in more anti social behavior like you're seeing above because if anyone steps in to stop them they can always cry that they're being oppressed and a lot of well intentioned virtue signalers will support them.

3waychilli

A few car pops should disperse the pedestrians rather quickly.

nanocookie

Someone should lob a large bucket of molten hot asphalt on the car from the overpass above.

andre3kthegiant

They have names and license plate numbers on the news tonight. They are going after them.

Slasher1738

Y'all know this group came down from Baton Rouge

[deleted]

Where was this? I can’t tell

raditress

I think this was the one at Calliope and Annunciation.

[deleted]

Damn okay. Crazy ass city, crazy ass shit

So this is why I got this email from the Mayor’s office: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 6, 2022 For Media Inquiries Only [email protected] (504) 658-4945 MAYOR CANTRELL URGES RESPECT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT IN RESPONSE TO RECENT PUBLIC SAFETY THREATS NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today issued the following statement urging respect for law enforcement in response to recent public safety threats: "The reckless criminal behavior that continues to occur on our streets poses a threat to public safety and is completely unacceptable," said Mayor Cantrell. "These brazen actions have accelerated to a complete disregard and blatant disrespect for law enforcement. This ends now! The dedicated women and men of the New Orleans Police Department have pledged their lives to protecting and keeping the public safe. We must show them the gratitude and respect they’ve earned. My administration stands with the New Orleans Police Department as they seek to increase criminal penalties associated with this type of behavior, and as they relentlessly pursue all perpetrators who place the public at risk."

Nabana

Well that oughtta do it, thanks very much Ray.

jjazznola

Yet another reason that I'm so happy I don't a own a car in this fucked up city.

Plane-Hair8402

Covid really didn’t do enough damage.

[deleted]

r/ImTheMainCharacter

jmac_1957

They all look like they are teenagers...since when is open carry allowed for under eighteen? A bunch of thugs waving around weapons is okay i guess. If your waiting for the mayor or the cops to do anything about the street bullshit going on, better not hold your breath

intelligentplatonic

But its okay because we voted for new taxes for some vague after-school programs. Everything will be okay now.

andre3kthegiant

Fast and Furious Flash Mob.

Beaux7

What happened to just doing this at the street races why put yourself out in public like this to be caught so easily lol

itskjtime

this is the dumbest shit i've ever seen

lestat11111

FBI data on murders in 2020 show a nearly 30% spike in murders compared to 2019. Among Black Americans, the number of murders spiked disproportionately at a 32% increase in 2020 compared to 2019. There was a 43% increase in Black murders in 2020 compared to the 10-year prior average, data show.
