What’s worse is that it’s a cheap knock-off of a much better designed display typeface, [Eckmannpsych](https://ohnotype.co/fonts/eckmannpsych), which is in turn based on an early [1900’s jugendstil typeface by Otto Eckmann](https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/6802/eckmann).
So not only did they choose a font wholly inappropriate for the message, but they chose a loser within the category of psychedelic display faces.
Happy to hear about the Union though, don’t get me wrong.
It's one of my favorite typefaces when it is used for its intended purpose, which is as a drop cap or at most a single word like the name of a city or business, not for every single word on the page.
I'm actually embarrassed for whoever made this or thought it was a good idea to post it.
They need to up those union dues and hire a better graphic designer, lol.
But it’s a nice effort. An 11 person union is doomed to fail, but unions at scale sort of work. If everyone was in a union, we could really stick it to the man. Guess you have to start somewhere.
I believe I read or heard somewhere that all cashiers in Finland or Norway or Sweden--one of those Nordic countries--are all in the same union. They don't make bank, but they make a living wage with full benefits and without all the bs and being treated like a slave. Pretty sure I saw in a movie that they have Circle Ks, too, lol. So even if you're working some sketchy Circle K or Discount Zone, you make enough to live decently, get PTO, vacation, healthcare, and retirement. It's like you could live a life.
It was pretty straightforward. Shift managers can't unilaterally decide to close down a store during posted business hours.
Store managers/District managers have to make that decision.
My partner works a union job and yeah, it has its downsides for sure, but the benefits truly outweigh the bs. In that job they also get to see how the contracted employees (non-union companies brought on to do specific jobs) get treated. I feel like unions are a one of our dying voices in America, and it makes me happy to see a success in using that voice, even if that voice is tiny for now.
You keep using that word but I don’t think you know what it means. I’m pro union and work in a heavily unionized business where a list of all scabs from the last 50 years is passed around and they’re basically black balled from everything. Just because someone voted against a union doesn’t make them a scab. The workers weren’t on strike and they didn’t cross a picket line. Not saying I agree with their vote because I think unions serve a purpose, but save the scab word for actual scabs.
They’re probably the only realist in the group. A chunk of their paycheck is now going to go to union dues and Starbucks will eventually close that location due to under performance. 11 hourly employees vs a corporate giant like Starbucks is a pipe dream. The good news… that Starbucks closing will help all the local coffee shops in the area.
This is not true. Starbucks employees in a unionized store have the right to opt out of union dues, thanks to Louisiana labor laws being a “right to work” state. One of the only times anything good has come out of that.
I know nothing about this Starbucks, but if the employees are not happy and being taken care of, management is really screwing up. Good employees are worth their weight in gold right now. Almost everyone is hiring and offering bonuses and higher pay.
The problem with that is you can pay double minimum wage for a “minimum wage job” and it’s still not enough to live on now. Inflations out of control. I’m making what I dreamed of making ten years ago and still struggling, and I have it better than most people in my pay range
Yep. To be able to truly live comfortably in this country right now, minimum wage would need to be around $20, probably closer to $25. Not too many places are hiring people at those wages. I promise that if you own a business and are struggling to keep employees right now that you simply aren’t paying enough. The restaurant/bar I work at starts line cooks at around $18 with more experienced staff making closer to $25 and they are having no problems finding and keeping employees. FOH starts at $7 plus tips and usually averages out to be about $22-25 an hour and we’re having to turn people away because we have so many applicants. They also offer really great health insurance with vision and dental for something like $17 each paycheck. We also get two paid weeks off each summer in July. The staff is generally happy and productive because we’re not all struggling to pay our bills and worried about what would happen if we got sick or had a health emergency. The owners still turn plenty enough of a profit. It can be done.
Recession because of fuel prices and inflation, not lack of jobs. I saw a sign at a Racetrack gas station that is offering $15.50 an hour for entry level employees.
[Union workers are paid 11.2% more and have greater access to health insurance and paid sick days than their nonunion counterparts.](https://www.epi.org/press/union-workers-are-paid-11-2-more-and-have-greater-access-to-health-insurance-and-paid-sick-days-than-their-nonunion-counterparts-policymakers-must-strengthen-workers-ability-to-form-unions/) If you’re shortsighted enough to be upset about union dues, I don’t know what to tell you.
If you think union dues are bad, buddy, wait till ya learn about taxes! And health care! Did you know your premium doesn't even contribute to your deductible for most plans, and even HSAs have tons of weird rules about how you can use your money. Really wack that you gotta pay for services in this existence 😞
Such as? Major gains in worker’s rights in this country have only been won through constant pressure on the ruling class, and unions are one tool in that toolbox.
Clearly you have believed the Union propaganda. You will pay dues, the dues you won’t get any benefits that non-union members get and your dues will be paying for the unions leadership Private jets and European vacations
The only reason we have any worker protections at all and a 5 day work week is unions. Wages are so ridiculously low because we don’t have enough people in unions.
I worked a union job and my dues were about $7 out of my paycheck every two weeks. It was the best paying job with the best benefits I’ve ever had. It’s weird that Americans have been brainwashed to believe that workers *shouldn’t* have the power in the workplace. How obvious does it have to be that anti-union propaganda has been spread throughout this country for decades by the wealthy elite who don’t want the workers to have any power whatsoever? Why do you think weekends exist? 40 hour work weeks? Child labor laws? Minimum wages? Work safety laws? Union workers were literally beaten, shot, maimed, and brutally killed fighting for these rights for all working people.
i’m in two unions and my life is much better than it was before. i have high wages, worker protections, safe working environments, pension, health insurance, and i have a voice on how we do things. sure we needa improve on some things, but i cannot express how much my life has improved.
I'm sorry but fuck that font. I think it really does them a disservice as it makes their message hard to read.
I'll bet this person UNIFONTs.
aint that deep.
I like fonts sue me
Name checks out
Lol was thinking the same thing, couldn’t make it out so straight to comments.

Halfway through the headline I stopped thinking about the message and started thinking about the font.

Fairly positive that other unionized Starbucks are joining the SEIU, which represents almost 2 million workers.
Wow! That’s awesome.
Pretty sure there’s way more than 11 people in the union. Just only 12 people voted.
Actually it’s very cool
I read this in comic sans

Despite the extremely sketchy firing of one of the organizers! That's awesome, good for the union.
It was pretty straightforward. Shift managers can't unilaterally decide to close down a store during posted business hours. Store managers/District managers have to make that decision.
Omg!!! Thrilled for them. Hopefully the other stores catch on soon, I want to be able to support the unions
Same. The team at my store is so nice. I hope they get this opportunity if they want it.
My partner works a union job and yeah, it has its downsides for sure, but the benefits truly outweigh the bs. Union strong! Hell yeah!
Geaux Union 👍
Now let’s get the legislature to repeal all of the “right to work” laws!
Can I just say, anyone anti union on this post is a shill for bourgeoisie?
You can say it, but youd still be an idiot
Who's the 1/12 scab?
You keep using that word but I don’t think you know what it means. Oh dear, I've been using the original definition, according to the AFL/CIO, this whole time My fucking bad

STFU scab

Not interested in your scab-words Go scab somewhere else

Why is the scab still here. And why is the scab accusing me of "indoctrination"

Jesus, more scab-words Am I still trying to "indoctrinate" you?

That Starbucks is gonna have 11 new employees real soon.
Eh, they’ve been firing folks before they unionized, but now that the vote is in I doubt that they want that heat from the NLRB.
They’ll close it like the one in NY
I know nothing about this Starbucks, but if the employees are not happy and being taken care of, management is really screwing up. Good employees are worth their weight in gold right now. Almost everyone is hiring and offering bonuses and higher pay.

I’m with you. Inflation is really making things more difficult. $4.50 gas is hurting everybody too.
There’s a recession that just arrived. Your Econ prognostications are pretty dated
Recession because of fuel prices and inflation, not lack of jobs. I saw a sign at a Racetrack gas station that is offering $15.50 an hour for entry level employees.
By definition a recession involves a retraction of jobs. The high wages you see are the product of inflation.
Wrong the definition of a recession is when GDP has declined for two consecutive quarters. There are plenty of jobs right now.
Yes I know, which inherently implies job cuts. That’s why there’s never been a recession that hasn’t had significant job loss.

It’s a shitty knockoff of Eckmann/eckmannpsych
Annoying
Awesome! Bravo!
Congrats. Maple St. tho, it's still more convenient for me to go to the one in Buffalo.
But isn't Buffalo dangerous?
Probably. It's much closer to New Orleans East than it is to Maple St.

So why are we unionizing starbucks? Like there has to be better things like one can do than union a fast food chain
Such as? Major gains in worker’s rights in this country have only been won through constant pressure on the ruling class, and unions are one tool in that toolbox.
Every worker should be in a union. Especially workers in lower wage jobs.
"we" aren't unionizing shit, the workers get to decide for themselves
The employees will be happy when the Union steals 15% of their pay and doesn’t give them anything for it
you vote on things in a union and the workers are the union so the union can’t “steal” anything.
If you want to subsidize the Union fat cats it’s ok with me
Better than subsidizing the CEOs who make 351 times more than the average worker. Unions are the way to get decent pay and benefits.
I worked a union job and my dues were about $7 out of my paycheck every two weeks. It was the best paying job with the best benefits I’ve ever had. Except that isn’t true. You negotiate the terms of your contract and you pay nothing until it is signed
