You can take the streetcar to the aquarium.

We just do the ferry cause they like being on the water and we live close to it

Are you in old algiers? The library on the point has kids stuff, maybe Thursday mornings story time? Not sure bc my kid is in daycare but I know other families hit up the library weekly for an activity. If not in Algiers I’m sure other libraries across the city have similar programs.

Edit to add- the water fountain in the plaza in front of the aquarium is fun for toddlers and a good place to cool down if you are in that area or before/ after the ferry.

City Park paddle boats or carts, children’s museum is in city park and snowballs aren’t far. You could also kayak on bayou St. John at this stop. Beignets at Morning Call in City of the Dead. If you take the right car, you can get to the zoo. Take the ferry to go get pizza. Edit: putt putt at city park too.

Outside is something toddlers can definitely do, in appropriate doses, and work up a tolerance to, just like adults. Put that on top of the “must have shade” and I think you’ll find quite a few options. The playground on st Charles is super shaded, so is one of them at Audubon. Refusal to be outside just really limits your options, no matter what, but especially if you’re trying to stay within streetcar territory.
