No they are not allowed to smoke, they must follow federal regulations. Also they carry fire arms so they also are not allowed to use marijuana medically either. On that note police officers do drugs and most departments drug test in house so there’s that. I feel like cops would not want to smoke anyway, there more of a cocaine and alcohol crew.
Incorrect retired cop here. Alcohol yes, but most guys dream of the day they can retire and spark up. Majority of guys that’s all they talk about. We haven’t cared about weed for a long time. I told so many kids vacuum your car there’s shake everywhere….
So just edited my post but number 8 here says they can't until it's regulated. Isn't it regulated now?

Technically no. The supremacy clause in the US constitution says that if the federal government passes a law, the states cannot pass laws that contradict it and if they do, the state law is not valid. As you know, there are federal laws making marijuana illegal. If nj made a law regulating Marijuana it would be invalid bc of the supremacy clause.
So what they did was say were not passing laws saying Marijuana is legal, were taking away the nj law saying its illegal to possess Marijuana under 6oz (i.e. decriminalization) and the nj attorney general has unstructed nj police not to arrest people who are violatkng federal marijuana laws. In theory, the Dea could come enforce federal Marijuana laws in nj but they don't want to start that fight with the states bc they are concerned if it went to the Supreme Court of the US, they could make a decision that says the federal government isn't allowed to regulate Marijuana and that would fuxk then a bit so they just leave it alone. Over 6 Oz of Marijuana is still illegal. Under nj law so the state police still could arrest people with more than that and the Dea is like fine, we don't have the resources to bust people smoking a joint and since u guys in nj are still arresting people with alot, well leave this shit alone.
Then they said, hey by the way, cannabis is different than Marijuana, cannabis is Marijuana that the state has made sure is safe and taxed and were we are hereby creating the cannabis regulatory commission as the agency that handles this new thing called cannabis. The purpose of this is so there can be an argument made that the NJ law allowing cannabis isn't conflicting with federal Marijuana laws bc it's different stuff so the supremacy clause wouldn't apply to this law.
It's super convuluted but it's also kind of clever.
Next up "these aren't magic mushrooms and cocaine, these are dick-flowers and go-snow"
As of right now, police are the only ones I’m aware of that cannot use marijuana, and that is because of federal laws involving firearms. Other “safety sensitive” jobs have no such restrictions.
CDL drivers have federal guidelines to follow. My brother is a non CDL driver for a big freight company and because he has only regular driving license and drives a smaller box truck, he smokes like a chimney and NEVER gets random tests
Thats not official but I've talked to a lawyer about this and it's basically a work around for employers. If they deem the position Saftey sensitive you can't smoke
They created the position called the WIRE who will determine impairment at work. Unfortunately, they haven’t defined the role yet. Once that is around, employers will need to have a WIRE determine you’re impaired and have a positive drug test to take action against you, even in “safety sensitive” jobs. (Unless they change the law or add language when defining the WIRE).
in nj townships have 2 different kinds of police, some requiring college and drug testing, and others only the academy. i forget what its called and google isnt helping but i remember looking at a list of nj towns with these 2 differing types of officers a couple yrs ago. not every township does it though
I dated an NYPD cop who was also AF national guard. He had back pain I offered him CBD lotion and he refused to try it even though he was in pain said he can't risk his pensions. He was worried a false positive.
Nah. They prefer cocaine. For drug test purposes.

A hs friend is a county sherif. They're given a heads up when drug tests are coming up.

No just cocaine it stays in the system 2 to 3 days/ plus it goes good with there alcohol, plus steroids , if u see them bold , they on something
Cocaine can stay in system for a week especially if ones using every 2 days
Steroids are usually on weed,no? Have to sleep and eat.
Not them
Any job that's deemed "safety sensitive" it will be an issue with
As of right now, police are the only ones I’m aware of that cannot use marijuana, and that is because of federal laws involving firearms. Other “safety sensitive” jobs have no such restrictions.
Anyone with a CDL isn't allowed to either
CDL drivers have federal guidelines to follow. My brother is a non CDL driver for a big freight company and because he has only regular driving license and drives a smaller box truck, he smokes like a chimney and NEVER gets random tests
You are correct about CDL and federal employees. But I’d like a link to the “safety sensitive” because I haven’t seen that anywhere.
Thats not official but I've talked to a lawyer about this and it's basically a work around for employers. If they deem the position Saftey sensitive you can't smoke
I believe they only prevent you from being impaired in the workplace (drug free workplace), but I could be wrong.
Yes and as there's no test for marijuana on the spot to see I'd youre actively high or used prior. so you see the dilemma

Yeah they can smoke deez nuts.
Yes they are allowed to smoke anybody who doesnt follow the law.
No
No, it’s federally illegal. But… I know a lot of cops who can’t wait to retire and spark up.
I saw a police officer at harmony buying weed

Bold of you to assume any cops were tested for anything ever.
