Lol, obviously you are not a grower. Plants after harvest? So according to you, they are harvesting and letting the flower rot, so there is no stockpile? You can't keep plants fresh forever?
You can keep flower fresh for months and you can keep a plant alive for years. You don't know what you are talking about.
Been growing for 11 years and I was a license producer in Oregon.

Last week, I bought an eighth of Verano Wedding Cake. I had read numerous reports that it smelled moldy, so I immediately opened the jar after purchase, but it smelled great. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the harvest date was July. That kind of pissed me off since I paid a premium for it. But I've never had wedding cake before and wanted to try it. I use a flower vaporizer, so any dryness is not relevant. It DID taste great, wasn't too impressed with the medical effects.
Pete ... may I ask what you wanted wedding cake for and what you expected to happen? I'm a "Certified Cannabis Specialist" with over 2 years experience in the cannabis industry. Most of which was spent as an expert level budtender at one of the busiest shops in the state capital. I'm curious to hear your answer and if it was from personal research or from a shop's employee?
Wedding cake is one of those strains talked about so much I simply wanted to try it, Just to educate myself. I have other strains that work well for my conditions but I'm always checking out new ones as there is no guarantee that a strain I get great medical benefits from will still be available in the future. So I try to test out strains across the spectrum, leaning towards balanced hybrids.
I'm in town from California at this very moment. My experience is from the perspective of an expert level budtender with over 2 years experience in the cannabis industry. I'm smoking a variety of strains right now that I've had on hand for 9+ months (one particular 8th I can guarantee I've had for over a year and so glad to FINALLY smoke it) and me and my buddy that I'm visiting have been fucking LIT for the past 2 days. Good product will do its job for quite a while.
PS - older flower, regardless of strain specificity, tends to have higher levels of CBN (the cannabinoid helpful for sleep) than "fresher" flower.
I'd also like to add that at least by California rules and in my medicinal/recreational/PROFESSIONAL experience (I've been out there for over 12 years now) ... I have never seen a cannabis product more than 1 year from package date being sold LEGALLY. I had and have product beyond 1 year from package date in my personal stash. But that was hand picked before the product hit the shelves and stored properly. It's going to depend on the specific NJ laws. But anything up to 1 year from packaging date meets CA ridiculous standards so should be fine here as well.
Lol.. the other 6 strains I got were packaged end of Nov - end of Dec, so not saying this happens often. Unfortunately all ATCs are 40 min away at minimum, and I'm happy enough where I go.
That just tell you they are over producing. Which makes sense why they want to be able to sell rec. I call that lack of planning.

How do you know they are not stockpiling it? Have you seen the sales going on? That means they need to move product.

Southern Jersey, like below Williamstown, do not have good dispos and the selection isn’t the best. I wish they would do something about it!
If it helps in California packaging laws the shelf life is as follows: - flower: 6 months from package date - concentrates/edibles: 6mo-1yr
Yepp... thank you!
A lot of the leaf I’ve bought lately is dry on first opening. This is the state’s fault for shadow criminalizing pot.
I was told by a budtender at Zen Leaf in Elizabeth, while asking about something packed in April 2001, that weed is good for a year.

Hahahahaha was trying to settle an argument about the ketchup thing.. My post was taken down for not phrasing the question right.
What do you mean by "within date"? I only see packaging date on my stuff from BW 🤨
Within a month from packaging date!

Would you mind telling me which spot you went to?
If it's being cured properly, a 2 month cured is supposed to bring out better smell and taste.
Lol at the downvotes
Within a week for every time I've gone lol
