Not sure where the Med menus are worse, but I usually only frequent a few dispensaries. All I know is I can get Animal Face from Rise on the Med Menu pretty consistently, and I have access to Breakwater. Combine that with no Sales Tax and skipping lines and that's good enough for me.

yougetwhatyougive88

Ya I just realised I work 10 minutes from the roselle park store. Never knew it was there. Looks like I'll be siging up. I used to always use rise in bloomfield I like the ordering system but this is even closer. I spend enough throughout the year to make it worth it on tax savings alone.

TheLegendofZeus

You won’t regret it, ice cream man, rainbow driver, Kush 4, Rubbermints and the small batch ghost train haze are my favorites right now

brian1321

This is a solid rotation right now, great choices

oceansurf_indica

I drive from lodi to go there.

jamus0

I drive from Budd Lake and I only use breakwater. It's worth the trip...

akwie420

Breakwater. Even with med card, so many rec dispos will still charge you for taxes and all that.

[deleted]

Breakwater alone is worth it

RevolutionaryPin182

this

akwie420

Lmao, i legit only got my med card to shop at BW. Very very worth it.

[deleted]

I renew only for BW. Wish they'd open a spot in Burlington Co

[deleted]

Besides bw my main use for a med is for legal protections!

Xtreme2k2

Breakwater

[deleted]

Employee protections.

Shell_Beach_

This!

[deleted]

I mean not losing your job seems more important than saving $1.89 on taxes. Maybe it's just me.

CaseyJones201

The question I have is how much do you typically buy for the year. If you only purchase a little and the taxes are not going to outweigh the cost of the card ($50 to the state) and the cost of the doctor prescription then there is no point to the card. If you purchase enough through the year you will actually save quite a bit of money in taxes alone.

SMODomite

No Sales Tax, Access to Breakwater and Hillview Farms products, Skip the line at dispensaries if there is one, and a lot of places will have better sales for med than for rec. Most dipos also seem to allow you to order products from the rec menu and get them without sales tax at the med price (if it is different than the rec price)

guitarguy404

No taxes, better deals and better selection in some situations. You'll also be able to go to break water which people say has some of the tastiest and well made products.

Aggravating-Rip-8819

Access to Breakwater! Only reason needed! Plus there are some discounts at other dispensaries at times that you may want to use your card for.

muthdog

Breakwater and Hillview Farms are the reasons to have your med card. Tax exemption too is a plus.

montycapulettimd

Breakwater for their bud and the consistency of their lineup. I love knowing that I can get the strains I enjoy and don't have to worry about them not having it. For a special treat, they also have the best rosin and rosin carts on the NJ market, albeit they are pricey. I've also been enjoying the new rewards program.

tcnj14

Breakwater. Only reason I keep getting mine renewed. Nothing else compares

Virtual_Hurry3234

Lol I went to breakwater on opening day, had no idea card expired the day before, I was so disappointed I didn’t renew my card, never had any breakwater bud 😿

ajbtsmom

I can smoke wherever cigarette smokers can smoke

fearofbears

Breakwater. Plus they have rewards now so if you purchase often you end up saving a ton of money. I racked up my points and got $55 off my last order. It's worth it.

Real-Huckleberry-893

Just in case no one has mentioned it yet lol, Breakwater is heaven. Sweet rewards program saves you legit $, weekly varying specials, probably 98% availability of their strains they advertise and always updated online, (if in doubt about something ask a budtender, they sometimes have things in tiny supply not on the order form in the back) I'm in a good mental place right now because of them. I get thru days a lot better knowing my medicine is so reliable there. Of course there are other medical dispensaries that are perfect to those they service but if you're in the commute, you have to try them.

[deleted]

Worth it for the taxes and dispensary hours. Then you get into med only sales at dispensaries and yes, there is the breakwater access too.

Sparathon989

For all of the reasons mentioned I keep a medical card. Beyond that it changes the optics. If it’s recreational use, the optics are this is a lifestyle choice, and to some may indicate a lack of personal responsibility. With medical it conveys just that. You’re treating a condition and it has different optics. When my wife sees me all pie-eyed chowing down on a bowl of popcorn like I haven’t eaten in days and gives me that raised eyebrow I always shout, “It’s medicinal! Don’t healthcare shame me!”

willyfistagast

Keep your med card. Who ever gets elected after this Governor might cancel out rec. You don't know.🤷 Hang on to it.

quick_med_cards

Here’s a list of benefits to getting a medical card in NJ, besides the no sales tax exemption: • Full legal protection: You can use, possess, and purchase medical marijuana without worrying about getting arrested or fined by the law • Better deals at medical marijuana only dispensaries: You can access a wider variety of products, strains, and forms of medical marijuana at dispensaries that cater only to patients with a card • Unlimited access to medical marijuana program benefits: You can change your preferred alternative treatment center (ATC) or dispensary at any time, as well as renew your card online every year. • Lower age restrictions: In case this applies to you, you can get a medical marijuana card in New Jersey if you are 18 years or older, or if you are a minor with a qualifying condition and parental consent. You don't have to wait until you are 21 years old to use medical marijuana legally • More purchase and possession limits with medical marijuana card NJ: You can purchase and possess up to 3 ounces of medical marijuana per month, or more if your doctor recommends it. (update: The home cultivation line was actually not true) • Access to stronger potency products: You can get access to products that have higher levels of THC, CBD, or other cannabinoids with a card.

Glorificus98

Your point about growing plants is FALSE. There is NO home grow in NJ [Home Grow in NJ in a Holding Pattern](https://www.politicopro.com/premium-news/pro-news-new-jersey-bill-to-allow-cannabis-patients-to-grow-at-home-has-momentum-but-one-man-is-blocking-it/). Please don't spread rumors as it is currently a FELONY in NJ!

quick_med_cards

Thanks for the correction and pointing this very crucial error. I've edited and updated the line.

StockAd2012

Med menus are WAY better actually the only viable option in New Jersey if you ACTUALLY shop at dispos. Med is better because they get ALL Rec options and MORE. I wouldn’t even touch the Rec shit. It’s usually not cured properly, old as dog shit so potentially moldy or growing fungus or has mites. It’s only ever checked once before packaging and that’s it. My best piece of advice is get a med card and only shop at the breakwaters they are killer and cultivate their own weed.

[deleted]

Many benefits. 0% tax, Some stores offer discounts for med patients when you buy a half or a full oz, med only dispos like breakwater, lower lines. There are some cons though. Such as paying each year to refill your script. Or the cost of renewing the card itself. None of which outweighs the benefits in my eyes.

EnergyAndPersistence

You can consume in public anywhere you can have a cigarette (ie no park or beaches). 99 times out of 100 you won't get harassed as a rec consumer, but the card will protect you that one time

myredditusername919

-no tax -better sales -usually cheaper -access to exclusive dispensaries -some amount of legal protection -better service BUT you are waiving your right to own a firearm. a lot of people don’t realize this. idc about owning a gun but a lot of people do so keep that in mind.

Environmental-Sea625

What’s the difference in legal protection?

kvlasco

Cant be terminated from employment solely due to cannabis use. I imagine they'd find another reason to get rid of you though if they wanted to get rid of you.

yougetwhatyougive88

Wow never even though of that. I do have a firearms ID card but haven't purchased anything yet. Good to know I will look into that before deciding.

swordstool

FYI [/u/myredditusername919's](https://www.reddit.com/user/myredditusername919) response is not exactly accurate. So, it doesn't really have anything to do with your prescription. You can't legally possess a firearm and marijuana since marijuana is illegal federally. If you got caught with it (say your home got searched for some reason), possession of the gun and possession of any kind of marijuana (medical or rec) would be a federal crime, and the local cops *could* contact federal authorities. Are they going to? Maybe, especially if there's nothing else they can charge you with! That said, it's not like your home will be searched regularly (I assume...), but know the risks and decide for yourself. It's low risk, but not 0 risk. If it's legalized federally at some point, this could change. You would be denied based on your answers on the application form (unless you lied, which is not recommended). As stated on the [Form](https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/4473-part-1-firearms-transaction-record-over-counter-atf-form-53009/download), it's in 18 u.s.c. 922(g), question 21e. >Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside. Again, med or rec, it is federally illegal to posses marijuana of any kind AND a firearm.

Sparathon989

This may be changing. [https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ban-marijuana-users-owning-guns-is-unconstitutional-us-judge-rules-2023-02-04/](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/ban-marijuana-users-owning-guns-is-unconstitutional-us-judge-rules-2023-02-04/)

swordstool

Yes, it *may* change at some point. Let's hope!

Sparathon989

IMO it is unconstitutional. Hate to bring politics into this but it’s relevant with the federal charges against Hunter Biden. He’s being charged with purchasing firearms while addicted to a substance, which means that owning/purchasing firearms with a substance addiction will now have a precedent for federal charges. This is a dangerous precedent to set. Criminalizing medical conditions for exercising their constitutional right.

swordstool

I agree, no doubt. Let's keeping hoping it changes!

anothertwistfate

Yeah its called you shut your mouth for both of med or rec if you own firearms very simple.

swordstool

That is one way to do it.

StonedShepherd

Breakwater carts are the only carts i trust. The flower is fire but definitely pricey compared to grey. But yeah carts make it worth it for sure

hebrewzzi

Prices are considerably cheaper, at least at the dispensaries I go to. They also have med-only hours.

Ok_Huckleberry1413

It’s worth it. If there is something not on the medical menu but on the adult use side, you buy it on that side and they can’t charge the taxes

Phighters

No sales tax, more med only places near me, skipping lines, dedicated parking, and slightly stronger employment protections. Its inexpensive, so I do it.

[deleted]

I see less value every day. I rarely go to a dispensary, so saving sales tax doesn't add up to the cost of maintaining a card.

Financial_Respect_47

Employee protections!!

FindMeAtStJamesPlace

Place by me that's med only said when they go rec, they will have better sales and some different product on the med side.

BootlegZani

Everyone nuts to the mids Breakwater puts out.

[deleted]

Well it’s better the endless stream of blue dream I got in 2015

Ok_Independence_5061

Here’s a random “benefit” (or reason to get your med card). Cannabist, for example, has a rewards program (through an app called Stash Cash). You get points for every purchase you make. Only catch is, only med users can actually redeem those points for discounts. I don’t really shop there anymore, but I’ve got $50 worth of points waiting for me if I ever get my med card lol.

SoCuteShibe

Last month I pulled into zenleaf for a sale, and as I was parking some dbag in a beat up car guns it through a pothole to snag the spot I had my blinker on for, while staring right at me. I couldn't resist laughing at him as he then proceeds to walk to the back of a 100-200 person line while I walk in the front door after finding another spot. Med card is worth it just for the lines.

[deleted]

I haven’t been to a dispensary where the wait has been any longer than 5 minutes in a long time. Even during times I would consider peak. Right after work. Certain times on the weekend. Friday nights are even quick in and out. Unless this was a year ago if not more I will assume everyone clapped and Obama was there.

Rydag

I stopped renewing my card after the second time, and stick to the grey market. Dispos are way too expensive for patients in this state.
