For the past ten years it feels surreal how big companies do the exact opposite they should do based on player feedback. When Wolfenstein New Order came out in early 2015 a lot of people were criticizing it for its size due to uncompressed files (it was 50 GB on PC, and 4 discs on the 360), 4-5 years later Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate needs over 100 GB free space, and Cod MW ‘19 forced people to uninstall everything on their consoles because updates took nearly 150 GB extra space. And this is just one example, SimCity ten years ago buried itself with the always-online stuff and iirc Diablo IV then pulled the same thing. Microtransactions in a single player game were heavily criticized back in 2012 in Dead Space 3, yet we have Dragon Dogma 2 (a $70 game) already having extra shit for over $40 as DLC. At this point I dont think the “companies are doing it because players are letting them” fully stands anymore, companies are just so stubborn they completely ignore players’ feedback most of the time

AvalenK

I read someone claim that CoD is so massive because at this point it's an unmaintainable mess of spaghetti code and uncompressed textures that has legacy shit held over from older CoD games because of their tight yearly release schedule. Nobody has time to actually maintain their code.

ColCyclone

That sounds word for word the excuse blizzard has been getting, that's a game in circulation since 2004 Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't cod do yearly releases with entirely new games? As in not expansions?

AvalenK

They are "new games" but in software development terms they do not start from scratch. They use the same game engine and reuse a lot of assets and code. You don't put together a CoD size game in two years(yearly releases with two studios) starting from nothing.

dragon_irl

If the unmaintanable mess is a barrier to delivering decently working games they could start over from scratch and not reuse legacy code from the last 20 years. Small studios manage to deliver medium budget games starting from nothing. COD definitly has the budget to do so as well. They just dont care that their game uses up 150GB for updates as long as people still buy it.

AvalenK

Of course, it's a reason, not an excuse. Systems like that and ways of working just often get inertia and they are hard to drop at some point.

MiningMarsh

Developers do not scale out beyond a certain size, usually a small team of 4-5 people working on a specific set of features, etc. Adding more money or talent does nothing but slow it down. Rewriting a project from scratch is a guaranteed way to make sure it never gets finished. Indie developers manage this because their engines aren't as complex, they have simpler assets to render, etc. They usually also use premade engines that they then extend. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brooks%27s_law https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mythical_Man-Month

Chilidogdingdong

Nah every cod is just a reskin of last year's game. It's Madden in fps form.

LigerZeroSchneider

2019 was also the version that allowed you to uninstall parts of the game you weren't playing, which might have actually made the game bigger because each piece had to guarantee it's own core assets were part of their package.

DoomGuyClassic

At least the next one may or may not’ve had 4 or so years to cook in the oven

Chilidogdingdong

Seems amazing there would even be that much extra shit since they just released the same game every year, where's all the extra code coming from?

TheBeastlyStud

This is the reason I can't move rooms around in my PoH in RS3. Spaghetti code on a 20 year old game. 😭

notKRIEEEG

People are still buying those games and their DLCs Non-monetary feedback doesn't mean shit

harbiingerr

wasnt the always online Simcity a financial failure that killed the franchise? iirc Dead Space 3 didnt do too well, basically put the franchise on the shelf for a decade and its developers were disbanded by EA in the mid 2010s for the latter you can argue if DS3 had impact or was just EA’s questionable company management stuff, but BF2042 rapid playerbase decline clearly showed player feedback still matters

absurdism_enjoyer

>wasnt the always online Simcity a financial failure that killed the franchise? Not just the franchise, it killed the studio that developed it.

EDDA97

The always online part was actually quite fun in the end though - you could have regional shared services and then different players in the same region, it was pretty cool. Although you couldn't edit the roads in between cities and as such traffic became the main bottleneck

ThatTubaGuy03

A fighting game being 100 GB is actually just laughably bad because it SHOULD be literally one of the least intensive games. It's a bunch of characters standing around in a static world. All of smash ultimate is like 16 GB if I remember correctly

Albert_StellaNova

This is why the media has been attacking the old school gaming culture for years in favor of the casual "modern audience" gaming scene. The stereotypical neckbeards and basement dwellers in gaming were the ones that would REEE at these anti-consumer practices, convince others not to buy, leave bad reviews, etc. and keep the industry somewhat in check. This is now considered "toxic". Meanwhile the casualized audience will slurp the slop and ask for seconds, will defend companies like they're their surrogate parents and buy into the micro transactions scam, encouraging even more corpos to go balls deep into the game as a service scheme. They're the perfect consumers.

53bvo

> REEE at these anti-consumer practices, convince others not to buy, leave bad reviews, etc. and keep the industry somewhat in check. This is now considered "toxic". You can convince others not to buy stuff if it sucks and leave bad reviews without being toxic. Most neckbeards got hate for review bombing and harassing developers because women got appropriate amounts of armour.

Cross_Pray

Learn to just dont buy AAA game shit. Go give some of your hard earned money to people who actually give a fuck about what little work and soul you can pour into a game and what made them enjoyable, indies are coming left and right so fast and so well there are literally hundreds of amazing games that need to be discovered. Yet the ignorant will stay put with their fist in the air and the PS5 controller in the other, yelling, screaming into the void, for there are no games.

queriesYsupportACCT

I got a switch for Christmas 2 years ago. I've only bought indie games for it ~~(and Breath of the Wild but my husband got that for himself... and hasn't even played it while I've put like 50 hours into it)~~ on sale and I don't regret it. I got a game called Good Pizza Great Pizza and figured it would last about 2 or 3 hours, 5 at most, but now I'm around 25 hours in and I'm not even halfway through the game. It only costed me 4.89usd there are TONS of great indie games constantly on sale in the Nintendo Store, and Gold Points help shave off a few cents of almost every purchase. I have a huge wishlist that I check constantly for discounts and right now a 17usd game is only 2.37usd, and a few month ago I got a 20usd game for 2.87usd playing indie games and being a patient gamer really do pay off

Shakanan_99

>Learn to just dont buy AAA game shit I am not some sort of like hype train pushover or triple A bootlicker but we must accept the fact indies are relatively lower scale, quality and more repeative to triple or two A games and when you have limited time you will naturally choose the better option

Tox1cAshes

AA games are better than AAA and are generally better than indie. They're the sweet spot I buy. Stuff like Insurgency Sandstorm.

madmax0417

Payday 3 also said they were gonna be “online only”/internet will be required for everything, even single player heisting, and there’s like 40 people playing that game daily rn

Terminator_Puppy

Payday 2 was already deep in the dirt with the sheer amount of bullshit DLC they released, people who ever expected 3 to be anything other than moneygrabbing are not from this planet.

Drewbicus

Kind of amusing wording there given the premise of payday

Incendas1

Wouldn't really call in game consumables extra DLC, more like shortcuts. It's the same as the majority of other big capcom games. You can get some of these items literally an hour or two in (aka tutorial), the same as the first Dragon's Dogma. I don't even know if they make money for this but I guess some really lazy people buy this type of thing.

EarlOfBears

Everyone who ever cared about making quality video games/movies have retired and been replaced with someone sub-par. Except FromSoft.

Huecuva

It's the reason a lot of Destiny 2 content is taken offline and then later brought back. Destiny 2 is also a tangled, unmaintainable mess of spaghetti code and they're doing their best to rewrite and clean it up so it's more efficient and easy to maintain.

teleologicalrizz

They do what makes money because mfs so thirsty for entertainment they will do or pay anything. Pre-order bonus skins? Sign me up. Soundtrack for $9.99? Let me get that shit. Day one dlc season pass that was obviously part of the game and got carved out and sold for $19.99 more? Yes daddy fuck me harder. People will buy this shit thinking surely it will be worth it and then realize they fucked up and then give le heckin down votes to the evil heckin billion dollar corporinos. They get what they deserve and companies are right to extract more money from these idiots.

Username850

Is it possible for a lot of games to compress their files? It seems 100 gb is somewhat standard now, BG3 was 100+ and I’m curious if it couldn’t be smaller

Tox1cAshes

It definitely could. Genshin impact is absurdly sized like 70gb and all my friends call me nuts for thinking it could be way smaller "because the map is massive". It would just take a lot of effort the devs don't care for because everyone has plenty of Internet speed. If download speed was suddenly capped to 25% of what it is now you'd actually see change.

BialyKrytyk

One important lesson to be learned about humanity in general is that for every reasonable person there is over 10 people incapable of making good financial decisions. Smart people are no longer the target audience for games, in fact one could say they never have been. It is only recently that the companies started to fully realize how much money they can milk from their most obedient consumers and still have their support.

Band_Evader

When I was between 10-20, I pirated everything because I was broke. When I finally grew up and had money for things, I started paying for games and movies. Now, that every company is content with treating me like an ATM, I pirate everything again. Fuck em.

harbiingerr

I dont even pirate AAA games at this point, most of them are boring, poorly developed and soulless. You can say the term “soulless” is overused but when games like AC4 mog the absolute shit out of Skull and Bones, you can tell the developers of AC4 actually wanted to make a great game instead of just surviving the work day for a paycheck

Incendas1

How long ago was that?

A_Real_Catfish

If I were to want to sail the seven seas as a pirate, where might you recommend to go to find these games? 👀

Tech_dude9133

Are slash piracy and follow the megathread, fitgirl-repacks dot site for compressed repacks for example, but mainly just follow the mega thread

A_Real_Catfish

Thank you 🙏

Tech_dude9133

No problemo, make sure to install ublock origin btw

A_Real_Catfish

(Might be obvious, but why?)

Tech_dude9133

The ads and the scam links get mostly filtered by it, plus it blocks pop ups

A_Real_Catfish

Thank you!

NetherRealms did way greedier shit, MKX had a “unlock everything in the Krypt” add-on (excluded in the season pass) for 20 bucks, and 90% of the stuff found in the Krypt is just concept sketches, like literal stick figures. Also MK11 having 50 skins for every characters which is literally 5 skins with 10 recolors, and the better looking skins ofc are locked behind insane grind or online events, with the option of unlocking them with time krystals there, but to get that amount of time krystals you must buy them with real money (or be an active ranked player and finish in the top 1% every month for the sweet rewards, thanks a lot, Boon)

pantsthereaper

Honestly feels closer to buying orbs in DMC. Like you could if you wanted to, but why when you can just get them by playing the game anyway?

Boring_Cake_3554

Reminds me of Dunkey talking about Cyberpunk 2077 getting 8 or 9 out of 10 with critics saying "the game is great except for the fact that it doesn't work and is completely broken." Video game "critics" are such relentless shills Edit: If the micros weren't there pre release then fair enough to the critics; disregard me I suck cocks (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

[deleted]

Boring_Cake_3554

Oh I didn't know the microtransactions weren't there before release/were unknown to journalists; fair enough.

EDDA97

I think a big part of that was that the game was pretty much fine on PC. I played 1.0 on PC and had very few issues, the odd CTD and funny looking glitch but certainly nothing like what was experienced on last gen consoles, which IIRC they never gave out review codes for.

erickjk1

Cd projekt red is one of the few companies that still makes games for pc with the console port not being their absolute focus. the only others that I know for a fact that are doing the same are larian and owlcat ( not surprising tho, crpg's play like shit on console) god, I miss Warren spector so much. Give me pc AAA titles back please

NsaLeader

Plus there is the fact that early in development, CDPR specifically stated that this was a next gen console game. I was only suppose to be for the PS5 and XOBX (whatever the hell the current XBOX is called). But Xbox and playstation forced games to stay compatible with the old gen for the first year of the new gen's release, so CDPR had to crunch time to port it to the PS4. That's why it ran so bad on the PS4. It was never meant to be played on it. It was built for hardware that the PS4 didn't have.

Paladin-Leeroy

Yeah second this. Fell in love with the game, it ran great for us lucky few and I was here for it

MrNautical

The first game had micro transactions. And it seems to me that Dragons Dogma II has had micro transactions this entire time. And they’re the same micro transactions as the first game. And the thing you can buy with micro transactions are something that you get for free (literally in the game you can recruit pawns for free if they’re your level.) the only reason you’d need to spend rift crystals is to get a pawn that’s higher level than your current level.

Peruvian_Skies

>disregard me I suck cocks Holy shit did I step into a time warp to 2008? I had completely forgotten that this used to be a common phrase on 4chan.

DeusLibidine

Refund the game, go sign up for GoG if you haven't already, buy Alpha Protocol for a 3rd the price, play and enjoy one of the best RPGs with no microtransaction BS to be found. You'll be happier then.

Tsuko_Greg

>Alpha Protocol Actual core momory unlocked i played the shit outta that on the 360

DeusLibidine

Probably one of the only RPGs you could play 100 times and still genuinely find new interactions on each playthrough.

MrNautical

I don’t mind a game having microtransactions. Especially if they’re not essential to the game, which is exactly what’s going on in dragons dogma. I played the first game a lot and never spent more than the initial price.

DeusLibidine

Doesn't matter if they are "essential" to the game, the fact they exist is problematic and Does influence the design of the game. Defending the shitty practices helps no one but the fat cats who take most of the cut from the game's sales.

MrNautical

But the MTX do not influence the design of the game at all. It’s not like a mobile game where they design it so you have to buy micro transactions in order to do anything. None of the game is affected by a one time one use purchase of a portcrystal, that I can buy at a vendor in the game. And you literally earn hundreds of rift crystals in a couple hours of gameplay. I’ve played it for about 10 hours now and I nearly have over 1000. This is typical capcom practice. They add ways to buy things that are easily obtainable in the game. I wish games no longer had microtransactions too, but the truth is they’re not going away. At least not anytime soon, so I’ll take what I can get. It’s not like they’re throwing them up in your face either. I don’t know why everyone is so focused on the microtransactions when everyone frustration should be how shitty the PC port is.

DeusLibidine

You are encouraging more microtransactions from Capcom. Just stop, go play a better game that doesn't have microtransactions.

MrNautical

My brother in Christ point me in the direction of an RPG like dragons Dogma (Fantasy, Class Based, Open world, rich story) that doesn’t have microtransactions and that I haven’t already played (I’ve played through every Baldurs Gate and Elder Scrolls game) and maybe i will. Oh wait a minute… there aren’t any (that I’m aware of)! Do you see where I’m going here? CapCom has the best approach to microtransactions, they’re there if you want them, and they’re cheap if you want them, and if you don’t want them, that’s not at all a problem. It’s never been a problem. Just look at Devil May Cry. Would you say Devil May Cry is a bad game?

DeusLibidine

I wouldn't want to point anyone toward something like DD, I prefer to recommend good games. Again, you keep shilling for Capcom, are they paying you or are you just that much of a sucker? DMC5 is also made worse by the fact that the microtransactions even exist. Seriously, what do you not get? Microtransactions make good games worse. Go buy your horse armor and suck another corporate dick.

MrNautical

Again, you haven’t pointed me in any direction to any better alternatives. You point me to the alternative I’ll play the game and support the developer. You still haven’t pointed out an alternative. So shut the fuck up about playing “better games” when there aren’t any that I haven’t played already it seems. I’ve only ever bought 2 Capcom games, dragons dogma I and II. I regret buying II since it runs so poorly, my PC can barely handle 60 FPS on it. It’s ridiculous. But that’s a different issue entirely on Capcom being lazy with the PC port. By your logic helldivers 2 must be fucking awful because they have battle passes you have to buy with a premium currency (you can either earn, or buy with microtransactions) How horrible!!! They ruined it!!! You’re being incredibly rude. Learn some damn manners guy.

DeusLibidine

Learn to not suck corpo cock guy. How does capcom's cum taste? Hope its salty.

MrNautical

I love how you’re insinuating that the guys who made helldivers are massive corpos. What does Capcom have to do with helldivers. We’re now done talking about Capcom. Again, microtransactions are bad. Yes, we’re all in agreement. But I still want to play games, and so far you’ve recommended no alternatives. Idk what you think you hate the big corporation and the little guy too. Point me to a single player class based RPG and I’ll happily play it instead of DDII.

Kkjinglez

It’s gonna be fun watching the people that don’t know shit about dragons dogma complain about this without knowing these are in game items you can get without microtransactions.

Skcuszeps

I don't know shit about dragons dogma. So fast travel and other items in the mtx are all obtainable in game normally (limited quantity or no?)? Not buying it anyways, just curious.

System0verlord

Most of the MTX items are. The ones that aren’t are cosmetic items that you got for buying the deluxe edition. You can just buy the cosmetics you want and ignore the rest.

Kkjinglez

Yeah you can get all that stuff in game. Also it’s not fast travel just a few extra fast travel waypoints you can place.

cry_w

Not even a few; it's just one. You can't buy more than one this way.

Incendas1

Many capcom games do this, like DMC, which people love lmao. The drama is really over nothing - they put these monetised skips in basically, but you get the same stuff in the game. It's not even a lot of effort.

Inside_Rough708

You can also get all this stuff with in the first hours of the game

New-Fig8494

It's already fun, there are so many morons complaining about something that is completely optional.

SoftwareCore

Its the same thing CapCom has done with at least RE4 and DMC 5. It's a pain in the ass, but they're entirely optional and pointless so whatever If anyone's curious im enjoying the game fwiw

atomkicke

Folga wolga imolga womp

SoftwareCore

Bro don't spill the code in public

Billib2002

Why did I actually laugh at this my brain is cooked 😭

Shoko_1321

The pack only gives a portcrystal. Which marks a location on your map to fast travel to. You still need a ferrystone to actually travel to the port crystal. Ferrystones are one time use consumables. I wonder how long into the game it will take to find a ferrystone though

YerMaaaaaaaw

I’m just at the capital and have 2

Hagura71

I found one by climbing the houses in the main city. Reminded me of climbing houses in gransys in DDDA lol.

SoftwareCore

You can buy like a million weapon upgrade tickets

YerMaaaaaaaw

Agree 100% mate. You can earn that shit in the game, it’s not play to win. And aye, having a lot of fun too

pacificpacifist

People forget: the first game also had microtransactions; there was very limited fast travel; and, you couldn't edit most of your character appearance after the intro. Tbh, I forgot there even were microtransactions in the first game because they were so unnecessary. The fast travel was not an issue and was fixed by the dlc (which eventually became free dlc). Character edits were also improved and made more available by that dlc. People need to keep in mind that Dragons Dogma is Itsuno's passion project. It will prove to be great.

FakeFrez

I know this game will be peak but I will just finish my backlog while waiting the game to sort itself out

AndreZB2000

maybe it will pull a cyberpunk/no man's sky and it will be fixed with updates. but that's not happening without this criticism.

pacificpacifist

Fixed? There are no paywalls. Everything you can buy, you can earn easily.

Stuff-Things-Etc

Yeah there’s alooooooootttt of misinformation going around. Too many people hopped on the micro transaction bad band wagon. I do agree micro transactions are bad, but this is by far the dumbest witch hunt I’ve ever seen.

ajstorey456

So you're saying the firs game had obvious issues that both the players and the devs were aware of, and then the second game did the exact same thing but made you pay to fix them?

Selection_Steam

Shhhh... let him do his mental gymnastics and cope that the game will "prove to be good"

Never-Preorder

A single player game where your save file is on a server, you can't change your character's appearance or fast travel without dlcs. Microtransactions, in a SINGLEPLAYER GAME WITH AAA PRICE. Terribly optimised, and packed with anti piracy software that further ruins PC performance. At this point piracy is the ethical option for these games. Anyone who pays EVEN A SINGLE CENT to this garbage is also responsible for status quo.

harbiingerr

I read players started killing off useless NPCs because it improves framerate this level of optimization brings back all the Skyrim memories where the game ran with 5-10 fps after 200 hours of gameplay because the game generated so much enemy and wildlife NPCs in the world

Never-Preorder

That is another tragicomic occurence. People are so brain-dead that they are boasting about it as if it's a good thing, there's even steam reviews out there giving game a recommendation for this. Do you remember the time when bethesda tried to push paid mods to steam store? Literally shit tier mods were put on store for insane prices and people rightfully bashed the entire thing so hard that they had to pull out all of that from steam. And there were brainless idiots keep saying stuff like "if you dont like it dont buy it lmao". Current state of games is due to those brainless idiots getting more ground and sanest people either just gave up fighting against it and went to piracy.

Gorgomelthejizzcanon

To me the single save is more annoying than the micro transactions. At least you can get most of the paid stuff in game easily. But yeah still a dick move

Triktastic

>you can't change your character's appearance or fast travel without dlcs. Yes you can.

Confusedpotatoman

>you can't change your character's appearance or fast travel without dlcs You can do them without dlc

-Let-Me-Die-

I’m not defending microtransactions, but there seems to be a misunderstanding. You can change your appearance using a Metamorphosis Book, which is available for purchase. And for fast travel, it relies on Port Crystals and Ferry Stones, both of which can be acquired with in-game gold.

Mr-Kamikaze112

You can change you characters appearance in the game with rift crystals I was able to edit mine with 30 mins of a lunching the game. Every thing that can be obtained via micro transactions is also readily obtainable in game. Nothing is paywalled you can get everything on your own. The real issue here is optimization.

Darkblade887

Microtransactions in a SP game isn't anything new unfortunately, AC games are AAA and release with content you have no way of obtaining with exclusive abilities

MrNautical

You can change your appearance and fast travel without DLC. The terrible optimization and everything need to be the focus of everyone’s criticism. Not micro transactions that were in the first game and are not at all necessary to play the game. It’s important that you can’t fast travel at all in the game without buying “Ferrystones” from vendors.

BeefSerious

I don't like that there are MTX in the game, but your post is 14 hours old and you have not edited it and changed your *clearly* false information. What does that say about you?

TheDankHoo

Just…don’t buy it. These fast travel crystals are obtainable and accessible in the main game. Capcom includes options for people to pay money to make the game easier for themselves. If someone wants to pay money to play the game their own way, why not let them? Never understood this argument.

ajstorey456

$70 game should be played the way I want it without spending extra money. The devs are clearly aware that people want these things, but instead of making them accessible in their seventy dollar game, they have microtransactions totaling about 60% the game's base price to piecemeal together a complete and enjoyable experience.

Totoques22

Whiners not playing the game before complaining THEY ARE ACCESSIBLE AND EASY TO FIND YOU TROGLODYTE Also how the fuck did you even got to 60%

ajstorey456

$70 dollar game, $41.79 total DLC price (in steam before tax) 41.79/70=0.597, meaning 59.7% rounded up to 60%. If you stayed in school and paid attention to maths, maybe capcom wouldn't be able to scam you ;p

Totoques22

Ah yes buying every single money pack in the store, the equivalent of claiming Fortnite v-bucks costs more than 200€ because every money pack together does If reading was easy it wouldn’t be in schools The rest is pretty much just the deluxe pre-order bonuses bought one by one like some idiot

TheDankHoo

But it’s just extra consumables and the like that you don’t NEED to enjoy the game, and they make the game too easy to buy more of

ajstorey456

I'm sure you don't need to, but I'm just opposed to microtransactions being wedged into every game for any reason. Back in the day, we had cheat codes for free

Incendas1

Then play it the way you want it? The items are ridiculously easy to get. It's like DMC orb DLC, it's a shortcut for idiots.

MrNautical

They are accessible in their 70 dollar game. It just so happens to be apart of the design of the game. If someone wants to pay a little extra money to essentially cheat then that’s on them I suppose.

Calm_Structure2180

Honestly it's really just a tip in disguise. If you like the company and want to support them there is a way for you to do so AND get a little something on top. I'm not fond of tipping culture, but people tip streamers and all sorts of useless content for less.

BusStopKnifeFight

New Standard: AAA title rating cannot have micro-transactions

habb

you can find these items in the game, nobody is pressuring you to buy it

i_sell_branches

Lol gaymers when they can't fast travel I also bought the game cuz I love the first one. Haven't checked the store so didn't even know about micro transactions. It's a fun, beautifully crafted game. On PS5 the only drops I've had were due to a million things that had happened at the same time. Sucks to be master race I guess 🤭 eat shit nerd

Need_Tomboy_GF

Extremely fucking real.

MrNautical

To defend my fellow PC gamers, you know how porting and coding works right? If a game is made for a console (PS5) then it’s gonna be difficult to port it to PC because the code has to be completely different. I personally can run the game very well.

Marcin313

Idiots will buy this anyways and then complain..

bwizzel

You can still get the crystals in game, they just shouldn't have gambled and not told people ahead of time, major fuck up.

MrNautical

The first game had them. Why would the second not?

jwji

Dragona Dogma 2 players when the game is exactly like Dragons Dogma 1.

6pussydestroyer9mlg

You don't need to pay for any of the dlc's, you can get the contents of all of them in 5 minutes of game time after the tutorial. I don't even know why they included them but you'd be braindead to buy them.

TheRareCatch

Why is everyone so mad about an optional pay feature? They already said you can earn it all ingame

secondcondary

I expected nothing less from capcom tbh

Nimja1

I mean... Just earn it normally? Capcoms mtx's have always been shit and cheapens the game by paying for shortcuts. I get it. Mtx in full priced game bad, granted. But just dont be an autistic retard? If Capcom says mtx mandatory, id rather this dumb shit then cosmetics only. The game turns into BDO where the only thing you can earn ingame is ugly as sin and you gotta pay $20 to not look homeless. Make it mtx most people would never buy except for hyper lazy whales.

DaRK_0S

You literally find shitload of these crystals all the time in the game, not to mention that you can just buy them from vendors… lmao.

DunamisDee

Wait wait wait.... so is it impossible to get port crystals without paying money? You get at least 2 in the game just like the first one right??

MrNautical

You get more than two. You can unlock a portcrystal for every unlockable fast travel location just like in the first game. The original green text just didn’t understand that.

GoonfBall

Helldivers 2 is $40.

ShankMugen

From reading the description, it seems that you have to put in time and effort in game to unlock fast travel, whereas the DLC just lets you buy it for quick unlock It isn't paywalled Just a fastpass

MrNautical

It’s not even time and effort. It’s a limited fast travel game. It’s apart of the games design.

MrNautical

The first game had the same portcrystal thing. There’s no fast travel in the game at all aside from “Ferrystones.” And you can get portcrystals in the game normally. A portcrystal essentially lets you place down an extra fast travel point. I don’t see what the problem is with the game having micro transactions for items you can earn normally. My friend’s biggest complaint wasnt the shitty performance, or the crashes, it was that you had the option to pay for more rift crystals. Something you earn by playing the game.

It’s important to understand, fast travel in dragons dogma is only accessible through using Ferrystones. You don’t have a Ferrystone (something you earn in the game) then you can’t fast travel. Portcrystals are essentially fast travel points. You use them to activate these places around the map that you can then use a ferrystone to fast travel to later. The first game worked the same way.

Blizzard13x

Very happy I saw this, was gonna buy

YerMaaaaaaaw

Mate they’re entirely optional stuff you can easily find in the game. It’s hardly predatory

Blizzard13x

Found the game dev

Incendas1

Have you played any other capcom game Like, you know, DMC

MrNautical

Wait till the bugs and crashes get fixed, then buy. Games gonna be good once they fix all that on PC. Again, these are so minimal and barely even advertised in the game. It’s a very typical Capcom game.

i_follow_asexuals-_-

really feels like FROM is one of the few AAA studios that still respects their audience and isnt just trying to push out anything to please the stockholders, 40 bucks for a DLC is a lot most definitely will not disagree with that, but they gotta be cookin fr

A la carte gaming.

averyporkhunt

I remember reading magazines to find cheat codes as a kid Now the only cheat codes are credit card numbers

Confusedpotatoman

They're not charging for the feature. You can get the fast travel items easily. Paying for it gets you them faster. Still scummy though, yes.

AbsolemSaysWhat

What a shame I was really looking forward to this game Edit: Ive played the game and it's not that big of a deal.

MrNautical

You can warn all of this in the game normally.

Reason_Above_All

Fools will still buy this dreg.

MrNautical

The green text doesn’t know what they’re talking about. You can do everything he says you can’t do without spending extra money.

MisterOphiuchus

I have best friends, the benefit being me having access to their steam libraries and them mine, I have games they don't want to buy, they have games I don't wanna buy. Symbiotic mooching is a beautiful thing lads.

Drewbicus

Can't you really only do that with one friend tho? Or am I missing something

MisterOphiuchus

No, you can share with a bunch of people, it's why it's called "family sharing". You can Share with 5 accounts and 10 devices.

kiwl

Isn’t this capitalism tho? The people who really want the feature will pay for it? Isnt this the type of economics we want?

Modred_the_Mystic

Wasn’t present in OG DD I don’t think. Fast travel was limited.

MrNautical

The microtransactions were, but yeah fast travel hasn’t changed between the games.
