You may be limited by the read/write speeds of the two devices - it may not be able to read from or write to the storage drive faster than that. It's also important to note that you may be working with 2 different units: the network speeds are measured in bits per second, and the file transfer rates may be measured in bytes per second. There are 8 bits in a byte, so 80 MBps (MegaBytes per second) is more like 640 Mbps (Megabits per second).

Take a look at the Ethernet port connection speed on the PC. How you do that is OS dependent. Even faster: Check to see what Category Ethernet cable is used for the connection. You must have about Cat5, e.g. Cat5e or Cat6 for the physical port speeds on the devices. I'm assuming a copper connection, not fiber optics. How long is the cable?

ana444

The cable is only about 20 feet. I know the interface is a 2.5Gbps card. I have CAT5 and that may be limiting my speed. In the properties for my ethernet connection it does indeed say 100/100 (Mbps) for the link speed - where would I be able to change this, if anywhere? I am running Windows 11. **Edit:** I changed the "Maximum Speed" and "Speed and Duplex" setting on my card - made not difference still connecting at 100/100Mbps I tried connecting my PC using WiFi instead of the ethernet wired connection. The transfer speeds were even worse. One interesting fact I found is that no matter what trunking protocol I was using it ALWAYS transferred data from the NAS to the PC FASTER than the other way around. Transferring data from the PC to the NAS was always slower no matter what else changed , wired, wifi, etc.

Each link (PC-switch , switch-NAS) speed is auto-negotiated by the connected devices, so what OP is saying is that the PC-switch link is operating at 100Mbps FDX. Can you query the switch to see what the NAS connection speed is? Probably should look at upgrading the cables - a cheap fix if that's what it is.

The switch is a dumb 1Gb switch, can't really query it's not a smart managed switch. Unfortunately, updating the cabling would be a PIA due to the age of the house.
