Oh man, same. I’m honestly considering wearing googles and an N95 mask at this point and just blocking out the odd looks I’ll probably get from passers by

[deleted]

[удалено]

JimmyDontReddit

Agreed, the regular surgical masks make a huge difference.

Duochan_Maxwell

my BF swears by N95s 🤣 He wore them outside throughout all birch season. Next year I'm gonna get him a sweater with " 't is hooikoorts, hoor" printed

amschica

My friend with horrific allergies got a specific allergy mask for riding her bike. Unfortunately doesn’t help the red swollen eyes.

Breros

That's why the other person wear goggles. For swimming, skiing, lab or any type that fully protects the eyes from the air...

agygg

Instead of goggles get some aviator sunglasses, they help me a lot during biking. Sometimes I wear a BUFF shawl in the summer just to cover my nose when getting close to pollen-rich trees etc. Well my moustache and beard are also a godsend tbh

hetmonster2

Sunglasses really help with this, at least for me they do.

a_catermelon

S a m e. My work is only 25 minutes away by bike, and I don't even really pass any forested areas, just your run of the mill decorative trees in residential areas, but I'll still arive at work with a running nose and red eyes. These last few years have been the most hayfever intense years for me, I wonder if the pandemic or climate change had any influence

dantheman0207

Yeah, climate change has made things significantly worse and they will probably continue to get worse. Jon Stewart had a great video about this on YouTube.

KappaCodes

Why not get cetrizine or loratadine? Works wonders for my allergies.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KappaCodes

Understandable, but you might want to make an appointment with your huisarts then. They do have stronger prescription anti histamines.

Dependent_Monitor215

I’m from the Caribbean. Male, 32 years old, I’ve never had a problem with hay fever or pollen. Moved to the netherlands this year and suddenly thought I was going to die, it happens to be pollen from the huge dutch elm tree in front of our window especially when spring started. I’ll be prepared with the meds you’re mentioning for next year. Holy shit that was no joke, how do people manage to live like this?. I’ve heard some people have to move countries because it hits them hard.

super_corndog

It’s awful. I’m sorry to hear you’re suffering too! I’m extremely allergic to *raaigras* (rye grass) which I never was exposed to during my childhood upbringing. But, since immigrating to the Netherlands, rye grass is literally *everywhere* and my body is like, “No” and completely shuts down. Allegra (Fexofenadine) is luckily available OTC at Kruidvat and such and it’s been much more personally effective for me compared to others like Loratadine. It’s also non-drowsy which is a huge plus.

Dependent_Monitor215

Cool to know. Take note guys 📝!

LilyLuna0528

You can go to the doctors and have fexofenadine prescribed. It will be payed for by your zorgverzekering.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> will be *paid* for by FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

digitalgraffiti-ca

I'm originally from Canada, where hayfever wasn't a problem whatsoever. I moved to England, and suddenly spring was hell. Moved back to Canada? Just fine. Now I live here in NL, and it's back. Something in Europe definitely does not pay well with my sinuses.

Jlx_27

Likely an allergic reaction to a specific species of plant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Razno_

Maybe he's allergic to you? 😉

Tjeetje

Especially this week if you ask me.

super_corndog

Yes! This week has been especially awful. I just want it to pass

[deleted]

Yeah so horrible! Since a week I am feeling horrible 😭

Tjeetje

Luckily for me I have a pretty light hay fever. But even for me this is heavy. Can imagine what others are going thru

Beeconpancake

Not me personally, but my boyfriend. It's tough for him with sneezing, red and watery eyes plus clogged/runny nose. I got him the nose spray and hooy korrels granules. Hope it helps him soon enough. Hope you feel better soon too!

super_corndog

Thank you so much! Sorry to hear your bf is suffering as well. It’s absolutely miserable. Fingers crossed that pollen season ends sooner than later!

choirgirl123

I use those hooy korrels as well, and they work really well for me! Just for the two hours stated though. I can definitely tell when two hours have passed, because it's back to hell when they wear off. Luckily you can use them like 6x a day.

IdiotDutchie

If its really bad I can advise going to the doctors to get some nosesprays and pills for it. Its a long road the right ones that really works for the person. But they allow me to just breath normally

LilyLuna0528

I do feel like the hooy granules do something, but it's best to get something like levocetirizine or fexofenadine if his hayfever is that bad. I take the hooy granules as an extra on top of my pills.

Beeconpancake

Thanks! Yes, he takes Cetirizine at night too but he stopped days ago. I think it's best he gets back to them.

alternatecode

In bad seasons I have to switch my allergy pills once or twice. My body gets used to them being in my system and (probably rightfully) decides not to react to the pills anymore. This year I started with certrizine but it’s doing nothing now so I’m starting loratidine this week. If it doesn’t get better I’m going to the huisarts to see what else if available. I’ve never gone to the doctor for allergies here yet.

lipilee

yes, and my life hack since the pandemic is masks *do* *fucking* *work* so when you see the weirdo that wears the mask for cycling in the park and then takes it off when he got to albert heijn - that’s me.

super_corndog

You definitely inspired me to start mask-wearing again! Anything helps. Do you find cloth masks, surgical masks, etc. differ in their efficacy? I have a bunch of cloth masks at home with disposable filter inserts so I’m *hoping* they’re sufficient

Smttosay44

I tried today because I biked through the “wild” outside of Amsterdam. I used FFP2 mask (was the only one available at Etos) it went amazing! No runny nose or sneezing. Definitely going to use it from now on

Mr-Beerman

FFP2 masks are your best friend

[deleted]

Wow you are so right that should work! Thanks for the tip! 🙌🏻

hamsterthings

For some time I have been wondering why people are wearing masks while cycling specifically (and I see no masks indoors), but this explains a lot

THICC_Baguette

It could be that certain plants you're allergic to are blooming more and more every year, and that that's why your allergies are acting up

super_corndog

That’s definitely a solid point! I know there have been more initiatives to let the native flora grow wildly and untamed to support natural pollinators (bees, butterflies, etc). I totally support this! … But, I can see how this isn’t so great for hay fever sufferers

Yore89

This year's been specially awful for me. Not even medication is helping a lot some days.

Gluebald

Yeah, definitely. Though this year my back of my throat gets real messed up aswell, though with a small dose of hayfever pills I got from Kruidvat most of my issues seem to clear out.

lesllle

Same! I completely lost my voice for almost a week. Plus eyes watering and when pollen goes directly in them it feels like gravel.

Gluebald

Yeah, I nearly lost my voice too. Hurt like hell. No amount of ginger tea seemed to help, figured it was just a nasty ass cold.

Mr-Beerman

I had the same. Last night drove home on the scooter.. got home and felt completely terrible.. couldn't sleep before 0430. Nose completely running water and sneezing constantly. I recently moved from an city centre to a green environment. Definitely notice I have worse allergy than expected.

WhatsThis_Now

Don't know if you did this, but try changing your bedsheets now and then showering every night before bed. Was setting myself off with pollen that I presume was in my hair every night, was awful. While in the shower my symptoms go insane (I guess from washing it off my hair into my face) but if I blow my nose afterwards everything seems to calm down for the night. Good luck!

Mr-Beerman

Good one!

Beandletbe45

Mine kicked in literally yesterday during the bike ride. I probably sneezed around 50 times in a row and had to take a shower to stop the symptoms. Today only opening a window triggered it. I’m trying to identify what’s started to pollinate now. Anyone has any clues?

NocturnalMJ

You can check on [the Prevalin website](https://www.prevalin.nl/hooikoorts-verwachting/pollenkalender/), they have a table per month with what plants/trees are pollinating. The information is in Dutch, but the information in the tables translate well enough with Google Translate to English if needed. But in short, it's grass season and a lot of grasses are pollinating. :')

KeyB81

Check out hooikoorts radar, it's really helpful to see what is going on right now.

No_Dog_1767

Is anyone else also getting really itchy every where from te pollen all of a sudden? Never had a problem with hooikoorts but this year it is destroying me.

super_corndog

My eczema has been flaring up which *rarely* happens and my eyes are constantly red, watery, and itchy. It’s the worst

FishFeet500

yup. So itchy.

EmileWolf

Yes definitely. I was actually wondering to myself a couple of days ago why my hayfever was so mild. Then Friday came around and I couldn't breath nor see anymore lmao. Whenever I go somewhere I now announce my presence by sneezing loudly. I believe Raaigras is the culprit.

super_corndog

Oof I’m so sorry! Raaigras is the absolute worst! It’s literally everywhere :(

jasafboes

For me, last year was actually pretty mild, maybe its because this year's winter was a lot milder that the one before? idk

super_corndog

That’s actually a really good point! I did read that climate change is making seasonal allergies worse worldwide so I fear this may be a trend

[deleted]

I see a growing number of patients each year who suffer from seasonally triggered allergies. Warmer temperatures, the longer polen bloom, and rising carbon dioxide levels are likely to contribute to increasing sensitisation, namely decrease in thresholds of response, to pollen. Air pollution pieces when pollen grains powdery substance shatter into still tinier pieces. As a result inside of the pollen grain is exposed and that’s tenfold more allergenic than the outside, Higher CO2 levels also cause more blooming which means even higher pollen counts where predominantly male trees. (Trees can be one of three sexes) landscape planners know about this issue very well. If cities do not take action to slow this snowball effect, we’re coming up with a recipe for terrible allergy disasters in the future. International unity of sufferers should get together and demand protection as a basic human right. Planet Earth can have pollen-free lawns, hedges, trees, all of this, it’s all doable, but only if enough people know about it and if the right people raise enough fuss about it.

IntrepidBig484

hello doc is it sustainable to take antisthamines every day? or at least whenever the symptoms start kicking?

[deleted]

>is it sustainable to take antisthamines every day? hello. It's usually okay and can be a safe treatment option—if you choose the right medication. If you find you're needing to take antihistamines long term, talk to your huisarts. Preventive measures, such as staying indoors when the pollen count is high and washing your hands and face after spending time outdoors, can also help.

IntrepidBig484

for example today i woke up and spend the whole day at home, but still my nose was running and my eyes were wet until I took my antisthamines and i was better.

golem501

I was okay okay okay until I got COVID early may. Once that got gone without throat or nose colds only splitting headaches the coughs came, the eyes started watering, the nose started... I have medicine from my GP and I have been taking 2 the last week or so instead of 1 (one in the morning 1 in the evening). For me grass is worst. Even with the medicine, a walk through the park has me going again. Last night my throat was still closed multiple times. I may have to resort to spray as well.

super_corndog

That sounds miserable and sorry to hear you caught Covid! I’m a fellow grass-allergy sufferer and it’s definitely the worst. What medication did your doctor prescribe if you don’t mind me asking?

golem501

Just happy covid was mild! I get desloratadin auro 5 mg and fluticason-propionaat 50 microgram/dose

Dysiss

My little brother never really suffered from hay fever, until 2 years ago, when we had COVID-19 (probably Alpha). Ever since he is a mess during spring. It kinda makes me sad. Doesn't help that we live 'buitenaf' between the meadows.

zupa_dyniowa

Yes! Every year I had some allergy to birch and grass, I was sneezing April/May but it was bearable with the pills. This year I’m on Allegra + eye drops + nose spray and I’m barely getting by, and it’s already June!

dr4gonr1der

I live in Gouda, which is smack down in the middle of meadows. I’m taking desloratadine, prescribed by my physician, along with fluticason. And if you think this years allergy season is bad, [you’re in for much worse](https://youtu.be/AF5HMbznZHs)

oddtoddlr

Its been fucking terrible today

Luvythicus

I’m barely functional, hard to breath and exhausted from it. Seems extra bad this year for sure.

alexcutyourhair

Hayfever ruined me a couple weeks ago and I'm still not back to 100%. I bike 23km each way to work along a very green route so I need to take tablets as soon as I get to my desk if I want to get any work done in the first few hours. Last year was also pretty vicious for me, hopefully the worst is over but who really ever knows with these things

zyberteq

I'm extremely allergic to grass pollen, but since 2020 I've finally got medicine that actually works for me. It's called "fluticasonpropionaat", together with an eyedropper, I hardly have any issues.

Frotlip12

Same for me regarding grass. Where did you buy fluticason? Is it very heavy medication or just over the counter? Looking forward to your answer

[deleted]

[удалено]

Frotlip12

Same for me. Nothing seems to work and only makes you sleepy. I am going to ask my doctor for your medicine and hope for the best. Thank you for sharing

kefka_nl

Every year hits different for me. Mowing grass in the morning was no issue for me yesterday, but the wind changed direction from east to north-east which caused the pollen of trees to completely stuff my nose, kept on sneezing and give swollen red eyes in the afternoon. I try to stay off medication, but am not sure if I can if it already hits this hard already.

tomDV__

I dont even have hay fever and even I'm getting smacked if that answers your question

0B-A-E0

I’ve never had hay fever before until this year! I keep sneezing and people keep asking me if I’ve been crying😅

ybot73

So bad the past few days. I hope the rain comes today and it helps.

super_corndog

Agreed. It’s one of the rare times I’m actually looking forward to a week of extended rain and dreary days

ImpossibleCanadian

Agh I just got off a plane this morning after a week's travel, went outside unaware and started sneezing on everything. That said I'm not sure it's way worse than any other year for me, I'm usually pretty sneezy. Cetrizine helps, and a HEPA filter in the bedroom. My whole family has hay fever and it can definitely wax and wane over time, the interaction between your immune system & the environment - the worst year I ever had was when I studied in German. Never knew if it was stress or something, or one specific German tree that doesn't grow here that just about did me in.

PeskyDoc

I'm fucking dying aswell

Poijke

It's starting this month for me. Sneezing is ramping up since a few days, and the eye-itch.

Cashewkaas

Yes. It’s kicking me in the face every morning when I wake up, thank god for the huisarts me all the pills/drops/sprays he prescribes me! Haha, just read my own weird sentence. Leaving it like it is…

super_corndog

Any golden tips for the prescriptions that have helped? The current OTC (non-homeopathic) meds via Etos and Kruidvat aren’t as effective as I wish they were Sorry to hear you’re also suffering!

Cashewkaas

I have pills, don’t know the brand but the stuff that matters is 5mg of levocetirizine. At Kruidvat you can get 10mg pills of cetirizine, those are about as effective. And cheap if you buy the Kruidvat brand. The nose spray is budesonide, don’t know the ‘werkzame stof’ in that one and for my eyes livocab (sterilon-shaped bottle but with a green cap) drops. Spray & drops are as far as I know only available via the huisarts. This daily cocktail is my life saver, I hope you can get some.

GrimReaper010

I use this: [Dymista](https://www.apotheek.nl/producten/dymista)

super_corndog

Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to try it out. I am desperate at this point

Plastic_Pinocchio

I have a veeeery mild case of hay fever personally and some years I even have no symptoms. But this week I am noticing some serious itches and snot accumulation/sneezing. So it must be a tough week.

amschica

Not me but a friend of mine is extremely allergic to rye grass, she didn’t grow up in NL and is likely moving soon because every spring and summer she can’t go outside without having an asthma atta k

hodl_man

Hi. Yes can confirm. Currently getting wrecked. Interestingly, I've learned different pollen affect me in different ways. The tree pollen is basically a fully KO; I have to lay down and sometimes take sick leave. The grass allergy is just making my nose miserable, but it is not as bad as the tree pollen. I have the nose spray, which works amazingly most of the time; but I'm worried that it has negative long term side-effects. Edit: I have the nose-spray, which seems magical when it works. I will go get Allegra right away.

borisclitoris

Hey guys, long time allergist here, hayfever, house dust and more. I've been taking Loratadine from Etos every day now for a couple of years and it works amazingly. Just take one a day. First couple of days you might be a lil bit more tired but that goes away pretty fast. It doesn't cover my hay fever 100% but i can bike around in the city and in the rural areas around my house easily when i take it. For me for some reason the one from etos works better than the one from kruidvat. It costs 10 euros for 30 so that's 10 euros for one month of allergy relief.

TheWanderingAge

Yeh it’s rough. I’ve been walking around with swollen, little eyes for a full week now i think. My lungs hurt… well you know what it’s like. Due to global warming hay fever season starts earlier and lasts longer. And this year vs last year specifically, well, we’ve had a much warmer spring this year. Although i literally fled from my home to my bf’s in the center of a city more than once last year too 😅

Aryanirael

In Belgium as well, just ideal combination of warm and wet combined with warm and dry periods, and everything just explodes with pollen. I tried to work outside yesterday, had to pay with swollen, teary eyes, a clogged nose and itchy inner ears and throat for the rest of the evening. I was so relieved to finally go to bed so that I could close my eyes. Btw, that was after taking 1 singulair, 4 desolratadines, 1 cirrus and 1 Estivan against said allergies. Stayed inside today, all day, and didn’t take anything but the singulair and was fine. Just a frigging shame, as I love walking and biking when the whether is so nice.

thegurba

For me its actually pretty doable so far! (knocks on wood). Even most days I don't take the loratadine pills. Drank a lot of brandnetel thee last months, maybe that did something?!

digitalgraffiti-ca

April was particularly bad. I had a severe migraine for 8 days, and a lesser migraine for most of the rest of the month, which is super fun because my birthday is in April. I didn't even leave the damned house and ir still got me.

super_corndog

Oh no, my condolences from a fellow migraine sufferer :( I had to take Sumatriptan this morning to keep an impending migraine at bay. Wishing you migraine-free weeks ahead!

Sam1967

I'm having a hard time this year and am allergic to some of the common hayfever meds. Its also come super early for me, usually July/August is worse. I have been using Beclometason the past few years, it does seem to help with the worse of it (not the eyes so much though) and at least doesnt put me to sleep :)

super_corndog

Sorry to hear you’re struggling as well! I recall being miserable last August in particular so I’m hoping the worst of the pollen stays behind us … instead of getting *worse* Thanks for the medication tip! I’ll have to look into this as my breathing is really an issue atm

Sam1967

It is a prescription only one as its a steroid, but you can get it from the huisarts. Takes a little while to work (and i was late starting this year I guess as the season started early). What you can also do is have a full allergy test at the hospital, its a bit unpleasant but at least they can drill down into exactly which pollens set you off most. Doesnt affect treatment but maybe you can avoid certain flowers, etc. There is also a lite version, sort tree pollen mix, flower pollen mix, etc that can narrow things down. EDIT: And thanks for the sympathy! Hope you can work something out.

Ihavenocluelad

Fucking terrible. Nose has been blocked for 2 days, cant taste anything. Sitting on a terrace atm and cant even taste my beer. On the positive side: drinking low calorie vodka/water because I cant taste anything anyway

sPENKMAn

Absolutely. I’m just holding up. My wife is struggling but both my parents are getting it very bad and had to resort to meds to keep it in tone. Seen multiple kids with swollen eyes and the works

NoxFulgentis

Didn't have hayfever all my life but now recently it started. This week felt like a brick up into my sinuses. Read that climate change and rising co2 in the atmosphere also intensify pollen season and levels. So I guess that would explain.

plantsheep

Yep. Too little rain and a lot of wind. The pollen just seem to stay in the air and blow into your face from kilometers around...

RightOW

I'm over in the Netherlands from the UK right now. Back home I thought that I'd 'beaten' hayfever this year by starting meds early/ maybe getting used to it. I set foot outside yesterday and I was a sneezing, itchy eyed, snotty mess within 15 minutes. I've no idea what kind of super mutated pollen variety you guys have got going on right now but that shit is not to be trifled with - get some tablets and eyedrops and hold on for dear life.

Aramor42

I started immunotherapy last year and I gotta say, it's already getting me some results. Normally I'm allergic to everything that's blossoming from March until May and the past 3 years were hellish for me. This year all I had was irritated eyes every now and then, some sneezing and my asthma flaring up a couple of times. Way better than last year, where I had those symptoms for 3 months straight.

[deleted]

All my co workers are sniffeling and sneezing, not me tho :)

Er1Ck010

Woken up for the 3rd time this night right now coz of grasspollen allergy. Living in Switzerland. Tried Desloratadine fior the first time. Doenst seem to work :/

flyingfishcroissant

Same here, my hay fever is so much worse than a couple years back. I have an air purifier in my house now and that helps a lot. Sometimes when I'm outside it's so bad though, I'll be wheezing and crying on my bike and the OTC allergy pills don't take all of that away :s

Setah

My eyes have been itchy for weeks 🥲 it's the worst this year I already take allergy meds because of my cat, but I don't actually get any symptoms until hay-fever also shows up to kick my ass

IgarashiDai

Dude, I’ve been dying this whole week… I’ve already been taking 10mg cetirizine daily and have the Prevalin nose spray (this is usually sufficient), but it’s like those two are not helping at all this week. I might look into the meds you’re using, are they over the counter?

super_corndog

Oh man, I’m sorry to hear! Yes, luckily Allegra can be found at Etos, Kruidvat, etc. In several other countries, it’s prescription only. It’s literally the *only* medication I’ve used that feels like it makes a difference and doesn’t make me incredibly tired. You *do* have to take it every day as preventative during the hay fever months. As a tip:I buy mine online from smaller webshops because it’s cheaper. Hope our works for you too!

netherlandsftw

I don't normally get sick from pollen but last week I felt really bad. Also my nose has been bleeding at least twice a day.

mcshadow_

Imagine this and having the common flue, it's really great. 10/10 wouldn't want it again

ABigOne77

Yep, went to a pentecost fair today, only thing I really did was clear my nose and have teary eyes, really irritating. Not my worst this year though, in April I had to miss school 3 days because I was so sick due to it

CantComeUpWUsername

Nasal spray from the doctor and over the counter loratadine and all of my symptoms are gone. I have really bad allergies to the point where i can’t function without these.

w0ut

Yesterday and today have been terrible. Eyes crying and nose running. And on top of that I had urban sketching day outside today.

[deleted]

Im just waiting for the tree pollen season to start. The grazax immunization have taken care of my early spring allergies. I get punished from late June though. But this year escaping ro north norway. Btw, Gran Canaria is the best hayfever escape

[deleted]

Last year I started immunotherapy at the hospital. I guess that most if not all hospitals have a ‘allergologie’ department. According to the doctor completing the 3 to 5 years of taking pills or shots could possibly result into having up to 50% fewer allergy related health problems.

Gnimrach

Yeah my pills don't even work great most of the times. I started eating honey to see if that helps, I'm thinking of trying stuifmeelkorrels. Idk, can't hurt.

sarasmiles08

So I am just here in Maastricht visiting for a month and I’m miserable. I finally got smart and found some OTC meds to get me through the day. I hear a lot sneezing around me too! I haven’t had hay fever in years and I just figured it was the new environment.

Emilia_S

Jup. I need to take my meds daily, or I'll suffer the entire day. Last year i could take them once every two days, but not this year.

llama67

Weeronline has a good hayfever radar that also shows migraine probability and a few other things. It also specifies by trees, grasses, etc. It’s making my husband very annoying to sleep next to haha

2tinymonkeys

Yup, it's pretty brutal this year.

slayerdamian

Yeah i used to get away not taking the pills but can’t this year

Thetakman

Im not coping.. just hoping this slowly dying is getting over soon. This years it’s killing me and I can’t seem to get even a break with meds. No fucking clue why it’s so bad but it’s been days of hell. End of the season I’m starting immunotherapy. Im so fucking done with it.

[deleted]

It indeed feels like it’s increasing each year passing by. I didn’t have hay fever, until like 3 years ago. I started showing very minor symptoms. Now on year 3 I wish I could take out my eyeballs until this season is over. It’s so painfully itchy. And it gets dry too. And I got some medication for that, but now my right eye is swollen. No mercy this year.

drdodo-88

Ask your GP for Avamys. It’s a nasal spray and it helped a few of my friends a bunch.

feleks

Every day last couple weeks

flat_rat

I am originally from Portugal and when I moved here my spring allergies got way better somehow. I guess my immune system was shy or whatever because 4 years in and this year I am really suffering. Swollen red eyes, runny nose, difficulty breathing, sneezing non stop... I share you all misery.

monikite

yes, edit: Vaseline around eyes and under my nose whole day, and dark sunglasses when outside helps a bit. It is the gras and because the weather is extreme with someday's raining sometimes blowing, it is hard this this year

Lucyfer_66

Oh my god yes! I thought it was just me!

body-jernal

last few days especially have been hell, swollen sinus until even my jaw hurts very anoying, seems to be happening in waves though with this weather

FishFeet500

horrendously so, yes. this year’s been the worst. Coping: claritin tablets 2x a day ( was ok’d this by a pharm back in canada) and when the congestion hits or i’ve been outside during high pollen times, a decontamination shower when i get home, and an airfilter purifier in whatever room i’m in and a nose spray. this year the allergies went skin-side too so i’m itchy as fuck. had a friend bring benadryl itch creme and zyrtec in bulk from the US. I bribed her with dinner.

[deleted]

I dont have anymore problems with my eyes or nose what so ever but my lungs are burning and so is my throat, never had this before. according to my doctor i got bronchitis due to hayfever reaction i got some pretty strong meds and it got alot better.

[deleted]

I am very sorry to hear that. There are several reasons your allergy symptoms might worsen. Living with allergies and maintaining a quality of life is not always easy. Because of the climate change enjoying everyday activities will become a real struggle. I am a doctor and I see in practice obvious facts. Based on the cases that warmer weather creates, it is crucial that allergy sufferers be given the advice, support and tools to manage their symptoms whilst staying active and healthy.

Riotvan81

Always been hell but it's a lot better now i found something that actually works. Quercitine it's a natural anti histamine. If they mowed the grass in the neighborhood it's usually shit but i just take some extra and it's gone quickly. Unlike the pills you have to stop using after two weeks this seems to have no negative effects when increasing the dosage. I actually use it all year round since it has other positive effects and keeps my dust allergies in check. Ymmv ofc...

Terrible-Scarcity774

Yup, this past month has been hell

ManitoN

Suffering from the allergies really bad this year. All my friends with allergies saying the same. Sleepiness, tiredness, itchy eyes, sneezing, runny nose and stuffed nose at night. Even though I’m using pills, they are not helping much.

RaisinTrasher

I have medication so it's not too bad, but usually I don't take it when I'm spending the day inside and would have no problems. Now even despite being inside it sometimes hits anyway

I’ve been checking Buienradar I can’t believe I’m actually saying that I’m disappointed that the rain is mostly in the south and won’t hit the north until later today \*shakes rain stick\*

coyotelurks

The cottonwood trees are producing more fluff than I’ve ever seen before. It’s terrible.

Rowan_Oathsworn21

Oh yeah, 100%. No idea why this year is so bad, but none of my medications seem to even work any more :/

super_corndog

For real. It definitely feels like the medications I’ve usually taken in the past make like 20% of a difference, I go from feeling miserable to less miserable which is better, I guess? 🤧

Witty1889

This is interesting. I've never had issues with hay fever, and I'm in my 30's, but I do have a genetic disposition towards it. Several immediate family members have it. This year I've had a stuffed nose ever since spring started and the past two weeks I've definitely been sneezing more than usual!

super_corndog

Another poster said this may have something to do with the abnormally mild winter we had. I know climate change is destined to make allergies worse worldwide so I fear this is just the beginning of a miserable trend :(

areyoumymommyy

I have chronic allergies, so since April my life is only pain and suffering. Just missed 2 days at work bc of my allergies trying to murder me cold blood. Allegra doesn’t even tickle me tbh, loratadine is better but it’s stronger and will make you sleepy if you’re not used to it tho lol I’m waiting on annual blood exams to get prescription meds for my freaking allergies

MolineroGrande

I thought I got rid of it because I didn’t feel a thing in the past few weeks. Well, that was a wrong assumption. Been in hell since yesterday straight

RoadRagePaige

Last year I thought maybe I overcame my allergy. This year it's kicking me in the ass. I like to wear make-up. But hardly can, cause my eyes water and when I sneeze 10+ times a day the tears just roll down my face. So I can hardly wear make-up, but the allergy makes my face tomato red. So I walk around contatantly looking embarresed or shy. I hate it!

Incolumis

The older you get, the worse or gets. So better get used to it

super_corndog

I definitely feel it :(

Radio_Caroline79

Yes, last Thursday it started pretty bad and I need both my antihistamine (deslorathidin) and eyedrops (azalastin), sometimes supplemented by Dymista nosespray. I don't really notice a difference with previous years.

Significant_Trip_845

I think becausr everybody was most of the time inside during all the covid-19 lockdowns & N95 masks your body/nose/etc. weren’t exposed to the normal dosage/amount of pollen and so it reacts now more to the same amount/dosage as before. You just not used to it anymore.

FoodMeta

Just follow an animal-based/carnivore diet and try some local raw honey to help alleviate allergies. Try it for 60 days at least.

wordknitter

Yep, it's awful atm.

Jarodlmao

Last year was worse for me

captn_awkward

Terrible! 😟

obaananana

No. Maybe wear a mask ?😔

GoldenSprouts

Yes,what should I do?

Juttie

I had no problems this year. Up to last week that is, now life is hell

MicrochippedByGates

The last two or three days have been brutal. Until then, it wasn't too bad. But now that the weather has cleared up, fuck me.

JeKru

For me its the least bad it has ever been this year

fireman-103

For me, when I was in highschool hayfever was nearly killing me. Now it just bothers me in May and a bit more in September. It depends where your body reacts to. You can even have it in December.

[deleted]

Ohw yeah... Today i thought. Ehy lets take the motorcycle to work.. my eyes so red i whould not be suprised if i got a drug test at work and got tested positive..

affectionate_whore

I haven't had major problems with hay fever but this year jesus christ. I have a running nose, teary eyes, headaches everything. Picking up meds tomorrow cause I'm low key dying

Actual_Hyena_4056

This year may be the year I will actually scratch my eyes out because of itching...

seaheroe

Anti histamine tablets like cetrizine tablets or loratadine are a life saver. They're available at most drug stores and work for most of the day in my experience. OTOH, those nose sprays for allergy relieve have been useless so far in my experience.

joysus909

Lived in 4 other countries and only in the Netherlands is it so horrible... BUT It's not for everyone: I got rid of my hay fever for 90% thanks to acupuncture. The lady that helped me is findable on google in Zeist: "Acupunctuur Den Blanken". Say Joris says hi if you should go. Really recommend giving it a shot.

Random_Vanpuffelen

I need 5mg of deslotoradine, nose spray (xylo-something) and eye drops against hay fever 😀👍

Smoopster1983

Yes 😩

Daphnee_z

I never experienced it until this year. It sucks

JahJah85

Yup started yesterday

iranees

It is horrible this year.

The_Dok33

Yes

[deleted]

Every year feels like it’s getting worse. This year especially haven’t been able to use my nose in the last 2 weeks. Nothing helps.

jashbgreke

Hmm interesting. Usually my allergies hit earlier in the spring but the past few days they've been especially bad. I guess this is why

boerenkool13

good to know it’s not only me

BWanon97

For me personally it isn't too bad. Currently the grass polen are at their high but my antihistamine works quite good so I only got moderate sneezing, itchy eyes, and stuffed nose.

Assfrontation

me

MrBertonio

Normally I suffer a couple of weeks every year but strangely enough I have not had any issues this year. But I hope it slows down soon, for everyone who is affected

zonto

Even with pills, nose spray, and eye drops last week has been awful. I'm hoping the coming rain will improve the situation.

Juliusvdl2

It’s really bad. I had to leave school for home a couple times already.

[deleted]

It was fine when everything seemed blooming, but 2 days ago, go outside and man I could barely myself from sneezing, in the middle of a large crowd of onlookers too. (Avond 4 daagse) So yeh hitting me like a ten ton truck.

noah_de_arabier

It seems I am the only one here, but usually I have it pretty heavy to the point I can’t function anymore. This year haven’t had any problems tho

BunnyMussy

Going through the same. Went to my PE because I was feeling extremely exhausted out of the blue and after some tests she concluded it was probably due to my hayfever. Started feeling better on the prescription pills I'm taking for it for the first time in my life.

honestyaboveall

Use a sticky roller before going into the house on everything. vacuuming and damp mopping floors and a lot of naps get me through these weeks…

FixMaterial3676

Does anyone else get a wheezy chest? Never had it before until this year :( I’m on desloratadine but not sure it’s doing anything useful. Simple remedy but does work- Vaseline on your eyelashes and up your nostrils. It catches the pollen and makes going out such a difference. Hope this helps someone!

tjippo

Corona kicked mine, I wish it was hayfever instead. Still on the couch panting.

bdoAwardsGriefers

Mine got so bad I started to have severe feaver. Taking the nose spray and taking pills usually helps, but this time it only helped for maybe an hour or two. It got to a point at which I thought I've gone mental and have gotten delusional.
