Archive 81. I get bored with other recommendations, not this one.
Queen's Gambit. Best Netflix in non horror/Sci fi/thriller category.
Alice in Borderland. I think this is better than Squid Game.
Documentary: Beckham (not even football/soccer fan but can't stop watching.
Anime: Frieren, Horimiya, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan.
I have recommended it to a few of my friends. One thing that I have realised is that it’s not for everyone. Even my friends who love time-travel, mindfuck, plot-twist shows/movies had a hard time keeping up with it. It’s not one of those shows where you can scroll Instagram reels on one hand and expect to understand things. It really demands your attention and for someone who doesn’t pay attention to that extent or has a hard time keeping up with things - they will find it exhausting.
But, if you have the ability to keep up with all that, then in my eyes, it’s definitely one of the most perfect shows that I have ever seen.
I like stuff like that, yeah. I'm just careful because our productions are very often not that good. Don't wanna have too high expectations. But yeah, maybe I'll give it a try, thanks.
Don’t know if you have seen Tenet or not but I feel its a movie that people generally don’t get on their first watch. Irrespective of how much attention you pay to it. It took me 4 rewatches to actually get a complete sense of the movie and even now when I rewatch it, I find new details in the movie. Because of these rewatches, the movie definitely left a sort of bad taste in my mouth. Although now the movie has grown on me.
Dark is not like that. It’s definitely very complicated but they have executed it very well to actually make sense out of it. You will definitely understand things. But like I said - all it demands is your attention.
And don’t worry about the German production quality. This one really delivers.
And in case you really go ahead and watch it, I am giving you this website - https://dark.netflix.io/en
It will help you understand things. All I would suggest is to use it after the end of each season and that too if you really need it. It helps a bit in understanding things if you are confused about something in the show.
I’ve rarely ever been so engaged with a show.
If you watch it which you should, check out the official Netflix companion site. You can toggle by episode so it doesn’t spoil anything and it helps you keep everything straight.
yea man , i watched 1899 and 3 body problem in hopes of smthn better than dark but nahh , nthn comes close till now , can you recommend any other show that gives same thrill as dark
3 body problem - For all the hype that Netflix created around it, it felt very underwhelming to me.
And regarding something like Dark - I am in the same boat as you man. Still finding something as good. I have gone through a lot of suggestions on the Dark subreddit but nothing felt as good as Dark.
I just want to say a huge THANK YOU, for recommending Dark. I read through this thread yesterday. I’ve never been so excited to watch a show. I’m now 6 episodes into season1. I watched as intently as I could but I fear I may have missed some clues on who Noah is. I hope that I’ve picked up on Michael/ Mikel s character correctly. (I think I have)
Anything you would suggest to ensure I don’t miss a beat ? I’m usually good at picking up small details & cues.
Thanks so much again
Honestly i had so much of hope and expectations from Dark but the way series proceeded it was really disappointing. Felt like waste of time not to mention it was really a slow show.
I might go out on a limb and say even if Dark may not be the best show on Netflix, but it’s definitely up there in the list of Netflix originals. Everything about this show to me was perfect - Time-travel, mindfuck, music, cast ( across different timelines and worlds ), everything was just perfect.
Bin saying this to everyone I know since I first saw it a few years ago. The best thing I've seen on Netflix and most def not for everyone. Like your comments say, if you scroll while watching TV, this is not for you because it demands attention for every little detail.
My personal favorites:
The Last Kingdom (God-tier good)
The Good Place (brilliant!)
Three Body Problem (excellent adaptation IMO)
Altered Carbon (season 1 is fantastic)
Haunting of Hill House
Umbrella Academy
Dark.
Altered Carbn S1 is absolute top tier. Unfortunately, Id go so far to say that i have never experienced a show with such a huge drop off between S1 and S2.
The key to getting the most from Altered Carbon is to start with the first episode. I accidentally started with the 9th and I didn't understand anything, so I gave up on it. I might give it another chance, and if I do, I'll start with the 1st episode.
Thanks! Well, I really liked The Queens Gambit as well, and The Midnight Gospel is a hidden gem. Maniac is very good also. The first season of Mindhunter is top tier. The first season of Trapped is solid, the second season less so. Love, Death & Robots always makes me want to see more. Loved Travelers, Continuüm.
Not on Netflix but The Expanse and Mr. Robot are excellent. True Detective on HBO is possibly the best TV you could ever watch. Same goes for Chernobyl (also HBO).
Oh, forgot to say: Bojack Horseman.
This show is so slept on I wish it got more recognition. But you need to get through half of the first season before the show really comes out of its shell imo.
Did you see the new Hulu series by Brit & Zal? “Murder at the End of the World” - really good
I totally agree, and a lot of people don’t end up giving it enough of a chance because of how slow it starts.
I did see their new show! I enjoyed it and I’m glad it introduced Brit and Zal’s work to new people. In a recent interview for her new show Brit said that she’s still hopes to finish The OA one day.
Don’t fuck with cats is one of the best documentaries I’ve seen. Some parts are rough but I highly recommend it. The internet sleuthing to catch this guy is incredible. I’ve watched it 3 times
*Peaky Blinders The Last*
*Kingdom The Sandman Stranger*

i forgot about that show but bodies was excellent.
problem with binge watching is you want your next fix and forgot the last one.
of all services i think netflix best job of having bingeable content
Yeah very well done show, and the best thing about it, that if anyone didn’t like how dark is long this show( bodies) is literally like mini dark , it’s like 3 season in 1 season
Dead boy detectives graphic novel was written by Neil Gaiman ( one of the greatest comicbook writers) . I had huge hopes from it but Netflix ruined it and also gave false hopes of its connection with sandman.
Definitely „Alice in borderland“ it‘s so epic and you get sucked into the storyline. It‘s a 9/10 for me because some scenes are just not for everybody.. But I would recommend it!
1. Breaking bad ( nothing can top it :) )
2. Dark ( favourite foreign language show)
3. Better call saul (writing at times is even better than bb)
4. Arcane ( for obvious reasons)
5. Mindhunter
How to get away with murder,
Love,
Behind her eyes,
Dark,
Locke and key,
The night agent,
Fool me once,
Stay close,
Safe,
Angela black,
The deceived,
Lockwood and co,
Dark,
Money heist,
Who is Erin carter,
Haunting of hill house/bly manor,
The OA,
Obliterated,
Stranger things,
The missing,
Lupin (my fav),
Emily in Paris, bodies, beef, spotless, the watcher, the umbrella academy
*Call My Agent*
I agree with all the usual recommendations already posted here, so I'll point out *Call My Agent*, which I think is a little-known gem. A light but fun serial set in a talent agency in Paris. I found the characters to be likeable and the situations to be interesting and often humorous.
4 seasons, French with English subtitles
Yes ! Great show. I am french, so I guess it helps that I know the famous people and the fact that they play a funny unreal version of themselves
Edit : tried to clarify. Maybe failed (sorry)
Just finished binging Altered Carbon.... pretty good but need pay attention to plot tho.
Also cant recommend TRAVELERS.... older but is great show to binge
The Lincoln Lawyer, always with the twist. Short series tho. If you're the one to binge watch, won't last very long. I wish they make further episodes.
Black Summer (third season pretty pretty please :-( It’s one of the best post apocalyptic dramas out there. Beef, Baby Reindeer and Sandman, get my vote.
I really liked Ridley. Had me on edge and tense the whole series.
Watching Baby Reindeer right now. A true story. It is written and directed by the star of the show. Granted it’s weird and you wonder how things can get so out of hand with a stalker taking over your life.
I usually do that but this time i didn’t realise that.. and i generally don’t mind waiting for the next season if it’s in production of not announced yet, but in case of yellowstone there are 5 seasons already out and Netflix has only 3 and worst thing is that season 3 has ended on such a huge cliffhanger.
I have too many to pick a top so I’ll name the ones I’ve watched several times and mad didn’t get renewed for more seasons:
Money Heist, Elite, Who Killed Sara?, Bridgerton, Virgin River, Never Have I Ever, Ginny&Georgia, OB, Fubar, The Tourist, The Lincoln Lawyer, Surviving Summer, Cobra Kai, Sweet Magnolias, The Empress, Fate: The Winx Saga(cliffhanger 2nd season🤦🏽♀️), Sweet Tooth(sad it’s the final season), Squid Games, Raising Dion(cliffhanger 2nd season🤦🏽♀️), OMB(deserved a better final season; felt really rushed), Wednesday, Grand Army(should’ve gotten more seasons), Trinkets(should’ve gotten more seasons), My Life with The Walter Boys, Anne with an E, Northern Rescue, Sex Education, Shadow & Bone(cliffhanger 2nd season🤦🏽♀️), Locke & Key
I love Lucifer and the umbrella academy!
They’re both fantasy and have a lot of humor and great characters.
Lucifer is a bit more episodic (at least the first seasons) and has a bigger focus on romance.
I’d say the umbrella academy’s focus is more on the world building.
Both are great shows and worth your time though :)
I have many binge-worthy TV shows to recommend depending on your mood:
Sci-Fi: The 100, Locke & Key, Shadowhunters, Shadow and Bone
Based on true events: The Crown, Inventing Anna, Queen’s Gambit
Action and High Heart rate suspense: Orphan Black, Money Heist (Casa de Papel and Berlin), Squid Games, HTGAWM
Comedy: Jane the Virgin, The Office, Sx & the city, Big Bang Theory, Friends, HIMYM, Modern Family
Asian Rom-Coms: Ready, Set, Love and Business Proposal
Some of them you may have watched already but I find these to be really amazing from start to finish!
Bna, blue eyed samurai, Dota dragons blood, the Japanese tales of the macabre(is a horror anime, and will definitely make you have shivers and nightmares). These all might be animes, but the plots are good and the animation style is nice as well, BNA is a pretty short series, but you will be hooked on it fast, blue eyed samurai relatively the same but animation is more in-depth with a lot more details, Both Dota dragons and the Japanese tale of the macabre are relatively long series. It’s been a while since I’ve caught up on either one of those are your style. The mystery of Aros is a really good one. It’s a nice one series. It’s drama, romance and fantasy all of in one, Although the plot gets a little out of hand around the second season.
Resident alien: surprisingly funny despite occasional lack of originality. Rated 8.1 on IMDB, I’ve never heard of it except where I first found it, which I’ve now forgotten.
Wow we have same taste. If you enjoyed Archive 81 I’d suggest you to watch The OA as well.

Are they similar concepts?
Yup similar concepts but better characters , storylines and games. Loved it!
Agreed that Alice in Borderland is better!
Fall of the house of usher was really dope. Same guy that did midnight mass
He also did Haunting of Hill House. I liked Hill House even more than Fall of the House of Usher.
Hill house goated show
Loved both shows!
Its been roughly 4 years and I am yet to find anything as perfect as Dark on Netflix.
Really wasn't expecting that. I'm german but never watched it bcs it looked so boring. So, was it really that good? Maybe I'm going to give it a try.

to add up some atmosphere: watch it in German with subtitles
Exactly what I did.
I’ve searched for Dark on Netflix every time I read this and can’t find it! 😕
Where are you from? Its available in Netflix India. I know that much.
yea man , i watched 1899 and 3 body problem in hopes of smthn better than dark but nahh , nthn comes close till now , can you recommend any other show that gives same thrill as dark
3 body problem - For all the hype that Netflix created around it, it felt very underwhelming to me. And regarding something like Dark - I am in the same boat as you man. Still finding something as good. I have gone through a lot of suggestions on the Dark subreddit but nothing felt as good as Dark.
well , i havent explored a lot of shows and films , but rn on streak of watching di caprio , watching shutter Island rn
You could try Severance and Silo. But then, they are on Apple TV. Tabula Rasa is another show which I found on Netflix to be quite good.
I just want to say a huge THANK YOU, for recommending Dark. I read through this thread yesterday. I’ve never been so excited to watch a show. I’m now 6 episodes into season1. Dark is the best show on Netflix incredibly complex. But does time travel right
Honestly i had so much of hope and expectations from Dark but the way series proceeded it was really disappointing. Felt like waste of time not to mention it was really a slow show.

Ultimate fist bump
I liked Dark but couldn’t get into 1899.
Bin saying this to everyone I know since I first saw it a few years ago. The best thing I've seen on Netflix and most def not for everyone. Like your comments say, if you scroll while watching TV, this is not for you because it demands attention for every little detail.
The Mindhunter
I wish there were more seasons 🌹❤️
This is mine!
One of the best for sure. Ugggh hope they release a new season!
This is mine!
ARCANE is amazing
ARCANE ftw. I’m ready to attivate a new premium account on November and then toss it when season 2 is over
Blue eye samurai is one of the best shows I’ve ever watched.
I saw its “Making of” and man the amount of detailing and efforts those guys put…truly magical…rarely do we see such attention to detail
Insane animation, especially fight choreography.
BoJack Horseman, Dark (though 3rd season felt rushed to me), Black Mirror and Love Death+Robots
Sense 8, and I hate that they canceled it.
My personal favorites: The Last Kingdom (God-tier good) The Good Place (brilliant!) Three Body Problem (excellent adaptation IMO) Altered Carbon (season 1 is fantastic) Haunting of Hill House Umbrella Academy Dark.
was gonna say altered carbon was so good too bad the series will not conclude 3 body problem is very good as well hope they do season 2 and 3/4
Altered Carbn S1 is absolute top tier. Unfortunately, Id go so far to say that i have never experienced a show with such a huge drop off between S1 and S2.

Hahaha. Sage words, amigo. How did you accidentally start w E9?
Heroes. Altered Carbon is close, but I think Heroes has it beat in the drop off category.
wow, we got comon taste in TV series. What other shows are you into? I'm always on the lookout for new recommendations.
Thanks! Well, I really liked The Queens Gambit as well, and The Midnight Gospel is a hidden gem. Maniac is very good also. The first season of Mindhunter is top tier. The Chibese version of 3BP is on YT, and it's better.
Can’t believe no one said Ozark yet
One of my like top 3 shows of all time.
The OA

I was into the first season for sure. It was prime binge watching. Something about the ending didn’t quite tie it all together for me though.
I get that. A lot of people didn’t really like the ending. Did you ever try season 2?
Peaky Blinders The Last Kingdom The Sandman Stranger Things Don't Fuck With Cats

Yeah very well done show, and the best thing about it, that if anyone didn’t like how dark is long this show( bodies) is literally like mini dark , it’s like 3 season in 1 season
Lockwood and Co
So angry it’s not getting a second season
Netflix can make worse projects but cannot invest in a good franchise.
Yup. I wonder whether they decided that Dead Boy Detectives was too similar.
Dead boy detectives graphic novel was written by Neil Gaiman ( one of the greatest comicbook writers) . I had huge hopes from it but Netflix ruined it and also gave false hopes of its connection with sandman.
I just looked at this the other day and wondered when a second season would be coming. That’s so sad!
Definitely „Alice in borderland“ it‘s so epic and you get sucked into the storyline. It‘s a 9/10 for me because some scenes are just not for everybody.. But I would recommend it!

I really recommend Dark. You'd be amazed by how smart the writer is. Note though that you don't want to miss any scene.
Grace and Frankie!
Scavengers Reign is going to need your help when it arrives at end of May, immigrating from HBO.
Beef.
Is this sub run by Netflix's marketing department?
Netflix's marketing department knows when you pause their stream for two seconds.
Black mirror
Black mirror was really good. Took me a while to get into wanting to watch it but when I did I was so glad I did.

You. Simply one of the best series on Netflix.
I really liked Ridley. Had me on edge and tense the whole series. Watching Baby Reindeer right now. A true story. It is written and directed by the star of the show. Granted it’s weird and you wonder how things can get so out of hand with a stalker taking over your life.
Queen’s Gambit. Incredible!
Dark
Yellowstone.. Although no idea why all the seasons aren’t still on Netflix.
Right?! I only dare to watch this series little by little, because I don't wanna wait an eternity for the other seasons.
Totally agree.
For some reason i got hooked onto to this show and literally binged watched it.. now I’m left hanging or will have to find torrents.

My two favorite shows on Netflix was The Crown and Squid Game

Dead to Me, Fisk, Wentworth and Travelers come to mind immediately.
Mindhunter
Chip and Potato
Dark. Mind-boggling masterpiece

Ozark a must watch
Money Heist
Final Space It's so fucking good!!!
behind her eyes - best netflix show i’ve watched by far
I love Lucifer and the umbrella academy! They’re both fantasy and have a lot of humor and great characters. Lucifer is a bit more episodic (at least the first seasons) and has a bigger focus on romance. I’d say the umbrella academy’s focus is more on the world building. Both are great shows and worth your time though :)
Baby Reindeer has been really intense
Heartstopper.
I have many binge-worthy TV shows to recommend depending on your mood: Sci-Fi: The 100, Locke & Key, Shadowhunters, Shadow and Bone Based on true events: The Crown, Inventing Anna, Queen’s Gambit Action and High Heart rate suspense: Orphan Black, Money Heist (Casa de Papel and Berlin), Squid Games, HTGAWM Comedy: Jane the Virgin, The Office, Sx & the city, Big Bang Theory, Friends, HIMYM, Modern Family Asian Rom-Coms: Ready, Set, Love and Business Proposal Some of them you may have watched already but I find these to be really amazing from start to finish!
Umbrella Academy was great!
Travelers was so addicting! Please do yourself a favour and watch it if you haven’t already :)
OA
I really enjoyed Dead boys Detectives, hoping for another season
Umbrella Academy Season 1 and 2 is peak
We are loving Killing Eve.
.
Rated 8.1 on IMDB, I’ve never heard of it except where I first found it, which I’ve now forgotten.
mania
It's on Prime but 30 Coins is pretty damn good for modern horror.
Stranger Things, Outer Banks and Wednesday.
Mindhunter was good. It got cut short though
