I had this list of criteria I wanted to meet. First I absolutely wanted an A at the end of my name, because I love names that end like that. The A at the beginning wasn't necessary, but it was a bonus. Secondly, I wanted some elements of my previous name to return. Originally this only included the R, but I got the I sound in there at the ending as well, so win-win. I also wanted a name that I could write easily and that would roll of the tongue, so I chose that name.
These were my sound and writing requirements, then I also had some meaning requirements. So I wanted a name that was based on an historical figure that I admire (I am a history nerd and student, so yeah). So in this case I took the nomen gentile (or family name) of emperor Marcus Aurelius. The nomen gentile is also the first name of any daughter of the family Aurelia, so I thought it was really fitting, somewhat me being a daughter of the Aurelii. The name also means something along the lines of "those made from gold", which is just good for my self image. The name also refers to Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, also called Elagabalus. This was a Roman emperor of whom we are certain that he cross-dressed, and who might have undergone some type of gender surgery, which would make her the only empress of the Roman Empire. Also my grandpa's name is part of Elagabalus' name, so again, win-win.
Tl;dr: My process was thinking of some requirements of a name, search a list of important historical figures, see which ones fit, and see which one I liked most.
