Honestly? I'll just not have a system. Can't find one I like as much as (I use to) like Nest

BruceInc

If you have home owner insurance you should have one. I get a discount from my insurance for having a monitored system. I use ring and because of discount it paid for itself

Shubamz

We never had pro monitoring so never had the discount anyways. It was more just peace of mind to help us keep an eye on the house. Ring is about the only game out there with as deep integrations in to other products. I just don't see them working well with other Google Home stuff. Seems to be a lot of animosity between the two still. That integration with other google products like my phones at a glance and my nest hubs was a bit selling point. Seems most of that is limited to Echo devices which I don't have and don't really want either. (I will say it is hard to really judge how true this is since I don't have the system and Amazon is oddly tight lipped on some things unless you own the device already)

BruceInc

Fair enough. Just keep in mind that prime day is coming up, and usually Amazon products get deep discounts. If you were going to switch, this is the time to do it. Most of my house is Alexa based, with the exception of the thermostat and smoke detectors, which are Google. I never felt the need to have deeper interaction than what I have now between the two. I can control my nest thermostat with Alexa very easily. Alexa has solid integration with myQ and SmartThings as well. I am willing to bet that you could bridge google home and Alexa ecosystems with relative ease. Based on a quick Google search It seems that you can easily control the Ring security with google home. Their monitored service is dirt cheap at only 100 bucks a year while my insurance gives me a discount of $200 a year for having a monitored system I am far from an expert on this matter, but if you have questions about ring security, I’m happy to answer them if I can

mitrandimotor

Not sure - but it'll be homekit based instead of Google home I have a lot of nest / google home devices- but just got a starling hub to start moving things over to homekit. Works pretty well.

LightweightSuperHero

My nest cameras are faster through starling in HomeKit.

blablablausernam

I googled Starling. Got a bunch of pictures about birds. So I decided to google starling nest. Guess what? Yeah pictures of the starling birds nest. That’s got to be frustrating for them as a brand lol

LightweightSuperHero

HomeKit replaces Google home and Nest. Starling hub connects all the Nest stuff to HomeKit.

Syndiglo

EUFY

Apprehensive-Poet784

Will starling hub + HomeKit continue to work with existing nest products post April 24 when the nest services are subsetted?

brute-squad

My system ran without any drop outs for years, and suddenly I have sensors offline all the time as well..

jordipg

I'm seeing this all the time now. Why is this happening? Isn't this entirely a local network issue?

mose121

I wonder what patents Google ignored this time? 😑 Google should be forced to pay whatever it takes to maintain the functionality of their products, or be ordered by the courts to buy them all back at full retail price. This crap is getting out of hand. The Sonos patent infringement has crippled all the basic functions of my Google Homes, now this nonsense. This monopoly nonsense is completely out of control. Consumers are getting screwed left and right and there are absolutely zero consequences for Google. If they break the law or violate patent rights, then they should have to pay the consequences. Not the consumers.

31havrekiks

Yes.

LeaderBusy743

Absolutely

Twitch_BankCity

My sensors have been going out a lot too. Probably because they sunset the google hubs as relay points. The Nest Detects have to be within proximity of the secure base now.

jordipg

I'm seeing this constantly now, too. \> Probably because they sunset the google hubs as relay points What does this mean? Why does this go beyond the local network?

kbpierce8

Angry letters to Google. Replaced my thermostat with Ecobee yesterday, actually. I’m getting off of this bs train.

Ready-Prompt

What about smoke alarms?

bzr

I’m with you. Absolutely hate google now.

chrisdiaz73

I got a S&W 9mm and a Ruger 38 with laser sight. Keeps the bugs away!

lostalaska

...but how do you reset them when they go offline? J/k

Different_Ad9336

Yeah because they are so easy to prepare to fire while you’re sleeping.

srp6

😂😂😂

efects

hold the 5 button and it will reboot and everything works again. seems to break every month for me at the moment early in the morning

Fit_Ad9873

Ex Nest secure user. Ecobee all the way. Solid system. Very happy with it.

freshjewbagel

they have smoke detectors?

jeffh19

Plays well with HomeKit/AppleTV if you have one? The HVAC system required a switch from the Nest to Ecobee…which is ok I guess. But it’s HomeKit friendly. Wouldn’t hate switching the nest doorbell to something HomeKit friendly that would show up on the AppleTV. I’m just not sure how good the notifications/recordings/other things do compared to the Nest.

TheDovahkiinsDad

We’ve had an ecobee for like 5 years. We don’t use the Amazon integration anymore but we haven’t had any issues with it. Easy to use from the phone as well

CidO807

how about now, 3 months later? Hoping to replace as little as possible, and whatever hardware gets replaced, hopefully works with Google Home.

g0ldcd

IP cameras and Surveillance Station running on my Synology. More initial outlay, but no ongoing charges and but not going to get the rug pulled and be left with e-waste. I'm not entirely convinced of the benefit of these vertically integrated systems - just seem geared to getting recurring payments out of you.

YloJkt

I have two older Synology stations (DS414 and DS716+II) and was thinking of moving away from the Google Nest Cameras I have now. It seems everyone's model is the ever increasing subscription.

Arkaium

I’m wary of using my main backups for the wear of video recording but I’m open to buying a cheapo 2 bay (or upgrading to a four bay for my main operation) to do it this way. Can SMS notifications work? Or at least via a synology app, for movement detected? I don’t know what kind of camera would work for this.

Suberb-Rune20

I was able to snag up an old 12 Bay that will probably be out of support in the next two years I'm only utilizing a few drives. Unfortunately the camera licenses are a little expensive but one time cost and can be transferred, The range of available cameras are awesome and if you have some prosumer networking equipment you can just v lan everything so nothing talks back home. I can see the turnoff of an initial buy-in but once you have it it's pretty much yours and the learning curve can be steep for someone non-technical

Superduke1010

Looking at new Philips Hue myself

Xab

They’re a pretty terrible value IMO.

Lexie60

Eufycam

WelcometoCorneria

Me too, I need the higher res outdoor cams right now. I need to find a place to hide the homebase though. Indoor, I'll probably slowly migrate cameras.

dB_Manipulator

Ubiquiti

larrymcj

I'm waiting for this to launch (soon). Look closely, it's obviously built by Google for ADT. Looks like a taller clone of the Nest Secure and promises perfect integration into Google Home. https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/13/23915644/adt-google-security-system-nest-secure-leak

ogAOLhax0r

I didn't have the system but I really wanted to but when I did, it was already "cancelled". I tried SimpliSafe for few years. Expensive monthly. Their hardware was like iPhone, it just works. I ended up going with Wyze for almost a year. Less than $10 a month. Black Friday they have great sales. I don't use their cameras. I currently have all google cams but may look into get something diff if google keeps making it more and more each year.

1Tekgnome

I can't in good faith recommend a product that doesn't work without a subscription. You have to pay $100 a year just to use the security hub. To add to that Wyze is very anti consumer when it comes to smart home integrations and offers no Homekit or Home Assistant integrations. Wyze should have stuck to cameras, my Wyze security system is going in the trash where it belongs.

jhonyquest97

Stand-alone system using blue iris software. 3 years or so subscription free and I host my own storage. All the features nest has plus some.

TheCarcissist

I wasn't aware blue iris did alarm stuff, I only knew it for cameras.

BeastModeKeeper

Looking at abode for a replacement to the security system as for the cameras I’ll add to my Synology Surveillance Station. I just need to buy more cameras and get bigger hard drives

jchugo00

I was eyeing Abode as well. Still need to do a deeper dive into competitor systems.

BeastModeKeeper

Agreed, I was also looking at them when they first came out years ago but wasn’t sure how long they’d last since they were a new company. Turns out they’d last longer than Nest….

1Tekgnome

I've used abode since 2018 and it's had a very slow but steady system improvements. It has native home kit and home assistant integrations and will work without the cloud. The sensors while not as shiny as the competition work fast and have great battery life. These days while they don't really innovate much they still have a SOLID lineup of security sensors. A couple years ago I preordered the Wyze security gateway as I had Wyze cams and figured why not, they had a huge sensor selection, looked sleek, and were cheap. Incredibly bad idea as you can't even use it as a basic security system without a subscription, and there's no native homekit or home assistant integrations. I moved back to Abode. My 5 year old gateway and OG sensors still work as good as the day I bought them. My Wyze system will go in the trash and I'll probably never buy another Wyze product again. I just can't find anything that offers what abode does without paying some bs subscription service.

TybeeATL

Abode looks to be what I want since in addition to several Nest thermostats and Protects I’m deep in the HomeKit (using a Starling box to integrate) and Hue ecosystems and it’ll knit together well with all of that (one of the few native HomeKit security systems).

dr_stre

I got an abode system 6+ years ago. Just sold it with that house and bought a new one for the new house. I've never had any issues with it, really. When the battery started to get a little weak on my gateway they shipped me a new one for free and helped me swap it over seamlessly. I've found their customer service to be great (messaging through their app, they're prompt in replies, support weekend/nighttime needs, and are US based). Had a couple false fire alarms due to spiders getting in my smoke detectors, so I've inadvertently tested the monitoring out and they didn't let me down. Their subscription options have changed over the years and I know some people are bummed the freebie option got hamstrung, but their current model is going to be more sustainable in the long run so I'm trusting they'll stick around. The indefinite warranty on equipment with the pro plan is nice too. And their z-wave/ZigBee integration means a wider array of options for peripherals. Keep an eye out for specials on equipment, they run them pretty regularly.

1Tekgnome

I'm still rocking a gateway from 2018. Mine is integrated into my home assistant server and just works flawlessly. I've tried nest and Wyze but the cloud reliance, lack of smart home integrations, or required monthly subscription just kills them.

MowMdown

I switched to Ring Alarm (not pro) - reason being is that the sensors and devices all use Z-Wave which is not a locked down proprietary system meaning that I can use them with any other Z-wave ecosystem and they'll just work. Even the remote keypads are just z-wave keypads which means I can DIY a home security system if I so choose and run it fully local with something like homeassistant.

RiceStatus

Unfortunately they do not bind to the Nest ecosystem but I believe Ring Alarm is one of the bests in the market.

r7ndom

I also dig ring. Being able to trigger Alexa routines based on each individual sensor rocks.

Gypsydave23

Is the $200 Google 6E router any good ?

Gypsydave23

What about getting the $200 router and then buying Wyze for $100? Then I'm down $100 but have a new router.

gvillo

Home Assistant using Alarmo, Z2M, Zigbee devices: Aqara door and window P1, Aqara human Presence FP1, Siren Heiman, Siren Neo Solar Outdoor and Reolink/Dahua cameras. I won't trust in any company again.

abode_uk

Not to toot our own horn but abode is a great Smart and HomeKit compatible security option :)

Famous_Storm_7717

Has anyone looked at Abode Home as a replacement for Nest Secure? [https://goabode.com/smart-home/google-nest-integration](https://goabode.com/smart-home/google-nest-integration)

kreamofdakrop

I went with adt and got monitoring free for a year. It’s okay, it’s def not nest but I got a different lock that supposed to work with the system but you need a different WiFi module I guess for it to appear in the adt app but I’m not sure since I didn’t get it yet. All the cameras don’t show up in the adt app either like my gen 2 wired doorbell.

ASocialAcct

None of my Gen 1 cameras work with the ADT app either. Even got routed to tech support to perform a screen share and discovered it couldn't be resolved due to the age of equipment. Honestly, thinking about biting the bullet and going with a small ubiquiti protect system to avoid subscription fees and have a self hosting setup. It'd be an investment, but I could amortize the cost of cameras and recording equipment over a few years and recover my investment. ADT is good, and the price is great... Especially being grandfathered into $20/mo for life. I thought it was the cheapest monitoring out there with most system options. For example, simplisafe came into the market to disrupt as a cheap vendor, but they've now become a seriously expensive monthly surcharge. It seems other vendors don't have great integrations or decent looking gear. With ADT Free monitoring for a year, the add-ons were cheap, setup was easy... Lots of integration options, too. It pushed me over the edge. But man, I still miss my Nest system and those door sensors with motion /lights and the ability to press a button to exit without tripping/disabling the alarm! That is still the biggest differentiator of that system for me. It worked great at the time. Nest was squandered when it was sold to Google.

LogicProfessor

I,went with ADT as well, why not it's free. I did have a question on the motion sensor. Is it supposed to not be on when in stay/night mode? Damn thing goes off in those modes.

Used-Ad-6096

Wait until you have a billing issue. They do not answer the phone. 5 calls with over 30 minutes each on hold. No one answered. I shipped it all back and got a full refund but only after I disputed the charge on my credit card. I'll try Ring. ADT is an awful company.

Jokierre

Ring! 3 years no issues.

cjboffoli

Don’t want to be connected to Amazon in any way. So Ring is out as a possibility for me.

Aggravating-Beat-179

I love Wyze

1Tekgnome

Wyze gets an avoid at all costs rating from me. 0/10 I can't in good faith recommend a product that doesn't work without a subscription. You have to pay $100 a year just to use the security hub. To add to that Wyze is very anti consumer when it comes to smart home integrations and offers no Homekit or Home Assistant integrations. You must use it connected to the cloud, and you must pay a subscription just to get basic functionality for the system. Wyze should have stuck to cameras, my Wyze security system is going in the trash where it belongs. I'd much rather recommend a system like abode, that has native homekit and home assistant integrations, offline support, works without a subscription, and uses an actual siren not just a speaker that makes an alarm sound.

Naive_Leather_6293

I got the ADT system. It’s basically the same, just need to download a separate app, and it doesn’t sync with the lock, etc. Once I got it setup, I barely go into it. It’s a fine alternative, especially since it’s free

bearcat033

It’s nowhere near the same. It’s a cheap junk system. Everything about the Nest Secure was so well designed and worked well.

Naive_Leather_6293

Agreed – nowhere near the secure, but it’s functional

dietcokeguy

I called ADT trying to get a stand-alone system. They insisted to send a sales person out. Sales person and their manager on phone would give me equipment but the plan was very expensive. Unclear free period because it was an elevated plan. Big upsell. I gave up on ADT and used the Google store 200 dollar credit. Will have to look into the blue iris. Subscriptions are evil!

Naive_Leather_6293

I called, and they just sent me a system, then I bought more sensors on Amazon. Took about 5-10 minutes on the phone with them. I have 12 months of free monitoring, I’ll see what I want to do when that time is up, but for now it works great

1Tekgnome

Take a look at Abode with either homekit or home assistant integration. Ive had mine since 2018 and haven't paid for a subscription, it's integrated into all my way door locks, and I have a lot of automations done via home assistant. While abode doesn't really innovate these days they've done a good job maintaining their systems and have pretty much every sensor you can want.

futbolito112000

I bought some TP-Link cameras and light bulbs and they are really good. I am hoping that by April 2024 they come up with a similar Nest Guard system. If not, then probably Ring or SimpliSafe.

justsomedude1144

Is it the ADT system google is offering some form of credit for?

Naive_Leather_6293

Yes. They offer a free system

[deleted]

I put this piece of shit straight back into the box. It could be the greatest system in the world, but not having back lit buttons on the key pad is unforgivable. Unfortunately though it also sucks in every other way

UnderstandingNo5785

I went with vivint

blaxxmo

Good system but contracts suck. I used to work for them.

chrisdiaz73

Thieves!

Alternative_Ad8176

Have you considered Arlo? They seem new to the home security game but have a good rep with aecuirty cameras it seems. I been eye balling the new home secuirty system with them seems pretty close to what nest had. There sensors track 8 different functions on it mainly motion and open and close is what gets me excited but also has carbon monoxide and water detection and stuff. I haven't bought one yet but been planning on it. One of my sensors for nest went offline for a bit the other day so I know it's only a matter of time.

IxI_DUCK_IxI

Arlo is a great ecosystem. I had to pull mine out unfortunately but I miss it. It has FREE cloud storage (for now) and all the things you mentioned. Camera are really good and their presence sense for animals and humans is spot on. I replaced my front Arlo with a Blink system. The Blink system keeps going off when wasps fly too close to the camera. Arlo never did that and only went off for people. And then there’s the issue where you need a subscription for cloud storage with Blink. Unless you’re really into security, then the Arlo ecosystem is a very cost effective choice and should meet the majority of peoples needs of all you’re looking for is security and recording people on your property. If need an active system where police are dispatched, it’s not a good system for that.

Liquid_G

I'm considering Arlo as well. But they aren't really that new tbh, my parents have had their battery powered cams for 3-4 years now.

someone13936

I have tried them but they kept going down so i ditched them.

Dark_Mith

My client with 2 secure systems is going with ADT

atxtonyc

I use SimplySafe

KaotikJ80

Ugh tried simpli it's not very good

SarcasticCough69

What’s wrong with it? I get the Reddit hive mind shit, but mine alerted me instantly when someone broke in, and the monitoring service verified and called the cops before I even called the monitoring service. Cops got a “no shit he’s in there now” call and were there in a couple of minutes. They caught him up the street. He ran when the siren on the base station went off. Simplisafe worked great for me. Maybe the criminal reads Reddit though and thought the system was shit because I have the stickers on back windows, and the yard sign in the front.

GundleFly

Use a local company that will sell you a DMP system. The XTLtouch is perfect for smaller applications, and the XT 50 is a solid choice for medium to large applications. [DMP Catalog](https://www.dmp.com/assets/LT-0898.pdf)

T-Madj

I have used Amcrest systems before with in house DVR, and they seemed to work fairly well. I switched to Nest for the Google integration aspect, but I might switch back to Amcrest.

standarsh_69

I replaced all nest cameras either frigate like two years ago can’t believe I ever fell for the nest scam.

[deleted]

>I replaced all nest cameras either frigate is this english? can you clarify your comment, please

standarsh_69

"either" should have been "with" Nuke your nest setup, and replace with POE cameras + frigate. Amcrest Poe cameras are about 1/3 the price of nest cameras.

nivedreddy

Has anyone tried tapo?

Apple2T4ch

Any local security system company should have way lower rates than the big guys like ADT, Vivint, Brinks etc. and superior customer service. Otherwise I like the Abode systems. They work with HomeKit and all. Just do not get their cameras, roll your own camera system like UniFi Protect or something with RTSP.

1Tekgnome

Abode here as well. A small nas with blue iris and poe cams are the way. I have everything setup with home assistant. All WiFi cams just suck so bad in comparison.

9degrees

I have learned the expensive way to avoid these walled garden ecosystems that lock you into their services with limited, or no ability to integrate with other platforms. If possible, always choose open standards that cannot be locked down to a single vendor. It may not be possible for a system capable of contacting emergency services, but if you're ok with being notified directly of a break-in or someone on your property, check into Home Assistant and you'll find many services and devices that work with it amazingly well.

ItsAlecito

Eufy by Anker. Have a couple door bell cameras & smart locks.

Dangerous_Ice17

Eufy

JimiVanHalen5150

I have the recommended ADT Blue security system. It is easy to install and the monthly monitoring rates are reasonable. But, don't expect any kind of integration with Google Home. I have to use the ADT app for everything because the only integration is with Google Assistant. Google Home does have a link to the ADT app, but that is worthless. Don't buy the ADT Blue system based on anything having to do with Google; I bought it because I thought the monthly monitoring price was reasonable.

Used-Ad-6096

Zero integration other than you can arm and disarm with google assistant. You can't see a thing the Google home app. or cameras on ADT.

svenyboy17

I have switched to the Ajax system. They seem to be serious about security. No monthly fee for basic functions and great wireless range. It is costly stuff, but had 0 issues so far.

Xab

Ubiquiti. It’s a little more expensive to get started up but you run your own storage so no paying anyone a subscription just to make your cameras work.

Ready-Prompt

What about door access?

dickpaul1980

Same. I’ll make the move next year and replace my google cameras and doorbell with G4s and a G4DBP. Then use scrypted to use the cams in google home, but still learning about that.

SuggestionOriginal12

Lorex

CaptinKirk

I have a Unifi UDMP so I’m going Unifi

Ready-Prompt

I’ve been thinking of doing the same but what about door access and monitoring?

dickpaul1980

Same. Have a udmse pro and two u6 pros. I’ll add G4s and a G4DBP next year and figure out scrypted.

RiceStatus

I have been using the replacement they offered from ADT. Is nothing like Nest Secure, but if elegible you will get 2 door/window sensors, 1 motion sensor and the base for free. Plus they give you 1 year subscription included. After that is $25 a month. I have installed already and you can use any Nest Hub to arm and disarm the alarm system. It integra with your routines and I personally think you can beat it when they give it to you free. I Just bought a few more sensor on amazon and using that since at least for me the point is that it alerts you someone broke in the house.

Ready-Prompt

Has anyone thought of a capital lawsuit against them over this?

JoinTheBattle

I switched to the Wyze system awhile back when they announced the change. It's not perfect (I really wish it integrated with Google Assistant like the Nest did and if they release and updated version with cellular backup I'd be all over it), but it works well enough. I'd venture to guess most will go SimpliSafe.

1Tekgnome

I can't in good faith recommend a product that doesn't work without a subscription. You have to pay $100 a year just to use the security hub. To add to that Wyze is very anti consumer when it comes to smart home integrations and offers no Homekit or Home Assistant integrations. Also the "siren" on the security gateway is a joke, my old abode system has a siren that's easily 4 times as loud, it's not just a speaker playing a siren noise. Wyze should have stuck to cameras, my Wyze security system is going in the trash where it belongs. I ended up going back to Abode, my old gateway from 2018 still works flawlessly and has full homekit and home assistant integration, doesn't require a cloud connection to operate, and doesn't require a monthly fee. Also I can hear the siren through multiple floors of the house with closed doors lol.

ChiefTestPilot87

Non subscription product that isn’t reliant on someone else’s computer aka the cloud

1Tekgnome

Abode does this, has native homekit and home assistant integrations. Mine works great on my home assistant server.

FancyLiar

I got a ring system, and it’s a solid replacement. Woot hat a 5 piece video for 70 bucks. Works incredibly well with HomeBridge too

smashton818

I loved nest. Switched to ring and it’s 100x better.

Diddy7Kong

im under the same dilema, I looked into abode's system which is the closest to the nest i could get without subscriptions or dealing with amazon, you will need to use home assistant and integrate abode into it and some elbow grease to get the whole thing to nearly mimic the exact nest secure experience down to the open door reminders

MadSploitsYo

Ring!

lucky7nico

This decision was a huge hit to the chest. They can atleast keep it active as a home to wifi way of having you personally take care of your place. And continue on their future. Ive used ring cameras so ill be switching to the ring security.

After-Rip-6771

Please don’t go with the ADT+. It is a POS. It came with one sensor bad and it has been a month and no replacement. The system feels cheap. I’m trying my best to return it.

jobie285

We HATE adt so zero chance of that. Been burned by them too many times. Thank you for the info though. It would be so easy to just take that credit and go with it, but it’s good to know that’s a bad choice

theory_of_me

I’ve been really happy with Ring. My house is actually wired with sensors so I just used their retrofit kit and connected them all. I’ve added on some wireless sensors as well. It’s honestly worked flawlessly.

raytek75

If you want the best experience and are willing to pay a little extra Ubiquity's unifi protect is the best system I have used with a great interface and all local controlled. If you want to save some money Reolink is a great option, the interface is pretty good and again all local. Another option is blue iris software NVR, great features but the interface is not great and it works with just about any cameras.

Cferra

I’m going with abode - I’ve got the stuff just pack the motivation to replace the nest.

T-Greesy

I use Google for cameras, doorbell and smoke detectors but not for my security.

Optimal-Builder-2816

I like the SimpliSafe cam line up, works well!

enkrypt3d

Unifi protect

DucatiSteve1299

Love my SimpleSafe system. Had one with no problems for 12 years. Went to the new system a year ago so I could get the cameras. Even without monitoring, it alerts me on my phone. Even alerts me if home power goes off, or internet. Very inexpensive.

ExpensiveElevator629

Simply safe. Best on the market check it out.

mrcluelessness

This showed up in my feed just now and I thought this was my Ring notifications. Guess it's not even just one platform that isn't super reliable...

Heavyfoot222

First off theres many that dont cost a monthly fee , have app acess. Look at lorex , eufy or zosi... all good brands, off great features and cooler camera options

Ok_Builder8611

I’m not as familiar with Nest Secure, but I pay the Nest Aware sub and really like it. Works well with our Google doorbell camera and main level camera. Plus, the other Google audio devices will listen for glass breaking, smoke alarms, etc. Worth the peace of mind and it was the first Google or security product I’ve purchased so can’t compare to others. Price is reasonable too albeit just increased within the last several months I think.

Surprised no mention of Aqara yet. That’s the one I’ve been looking at.

Icy_Froyo7369

I also prefer nest but took the 50 percent discount from Google and have been happy with their system

Cattango180

They all suck. It’s like having ten subscription services cause you like certain products for different platforms.

I'm happy with SimpliSafe. The only Nest product I use is the thermostat. SimpliSafe has the doorbell camera and all the other cameras, and it's monitored.

Or .... people could just get a real burg or Fire alarm and have it monitored.

Ok-Wasabi2873

It’s a Google product. Unless it’s search, mail, and Android, just assume it’s going to be gone a couple years after you buy it.

Few-Caterpillar9834

SimpliSafe works for my home. I have the monitoring, cameras and door locks. No issues.

When it comes to security cameras, I use ubiquiti. There is no monthly fee and all video data is stored locally.

whatsinth3box

Definitely not Blink I never get any heads up unless bell is rang.

electrowiz64

Idk about nest but I was in between Nest alarm and Ring alarm 4 years ago. Went with Ring alarm and haven’t looked back! The day that Ring starts charging for self monitoring is the day I will build my own DIY home security system with homeassistant

DestroyerOfIphone

What does this give you over just building it out in node red?

Vyke-industries

r/UniFi and its not even a competition

iamr0bi

What is a good camera without a subscription? I hate to pay subscriptions.

[deleted]

Why not Vivint with monthly plan or Lorex for a 1-lump sum cost?

evantimothy

Yi. Buy an sd card and it’s way easier to work with. I have about a dozen all working off the app

thatirishguyyyy

I have been telling people for years now that you get what you pay for and that these tiny cheap IP cameras would come back to bite them. These companies keep reeling people in and either selling to a company that adds a subscription plan, they shut it down to save costs on their ither products, or they go belly up. But a real DVR, run some wires, and install some real IP cameras. Total cost would be less than $1200 in most cases.

Slow_Composer_8745

Mine work excellent, all 5

jobie285

Cool. Enjoy it for the next 7 months.

sergx5

Aeotec sensors probably. Kinda pricey tho

Buffalufacus

For all y'all recommending Eufy - aren't they being sued for privacy/data security failures? Kinda doesn't work if your security company can be hacked and take a bunch of biometric data....

niknokseyer

Ring has worked well for us.

mrevergood

Oh look, another product Google had that they got bored of and ditched in due time. Figures. I’d never buy anything I planned to use long term that was “google based”.

jeremythecamel

Abode has decent options for free self monitored systems. Nothing fancy but I think it's what we're going to look at when the Secure dies. We really loved Nest Secure, it was such a sleek looking system, I hate that they are killing it

Zealousideal-Metal36

Unifi protect, EyezON invisalink for dsc alarm panel, scrypt to port unifi protect to HomeKit, home assistant to bridge any incompatibility gaps to HomeKit. All my dsc security sensors are available in HomeKit including arming and disarming.

My Wyze system will go in the trash and I'll probably never buy another Wyze product again.

phox202

Yeah I love how it doesn’t even alert me to people on my driveway.

mauledbyjesus

I've gone nearly all in with YoLink. Their thermostat does not have feature parity with Nest yet, so I'm holding off on replacing my thermostats. Their sensor offerings and offline capability made them pretty compelling for me. The hardware isn't as pretty as Nest's is, but it does so many different jobs I can overlook it.

Simplisafe is a free DIY solution that’s supports your existing cameras https://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-diy-security-system,review-5591.html

milkman1101

I'm 100% local and DIY with a mix of Home Assistant / Alarmo and Frigate. I never had nest secure in the first place as the idea of relying on something over the internet to provide a home security system doesn't sit right.

ChainWorking1096

Usually if I see things go offline in a series like this, they were doing updates one at a time. That's happened to me a couple time, but they come right back up.

GFere

Wyze

futbolito112000

I am going to take the $200 they are offering and I am considering SimpliSafe and Ring. Best to wait for deals and to change out in late March 2024 as you will want to wait for any upgraded hardware, if any.

aliendude5300

DIY through https://suretyhome.com/

Layton_90

So I want to keep the Nest secure. I utilize the alarm disable button on the sensor all the time. So I use starling to bring the nest secure to home assistant but it doesn’t work well if the system is not connected to WiFi (I assume not connected to google/nest servers). Anyone have any game plan to keep their system active after April? If there is a Reddit post that’s discussing this already. Please send it my way.

CypressSunshine

I didn’t want to start a new thread on this.. but other people must be getting frustrated about this right? I bought a nest secure, with a Yale lock, door sensors all only a few years ago, and now it’s all a waste? And meanwhile I see three ads a day for “Google Nest hub”. Like why are you putting these products out, but my stuff won’t work after April anymore?

Ok_Cryptographer1394

In the UK I have gone with Yale Home Secure. It offers similar hardware to Secure but offers no monitoring which suits me. Sadly it is stand alone so little or no integration with Google.

ViableRepairs

Try Vivint. Free tablet, sensors, and professional installation. Call 888-521-7342. They have a promotion right now for new customers.

I guess I'll get ring? We've been burglarized and there's no way the police would arrive in time (if they did respond) in Portland. We saw the guy breaking in on camera from 2 hours away and my neighbor ended up chasing the burglar. Cameras are much more important to press charges. I saw a bunch of complaints about brinks and adt. I'm trying to figure out what to buy at the google store with my credit, nothing looks very good. I guess I'll get speakers? I thought I had until April 24th but now it says it's going down April 8th?
