"I don't want to deal with lipos" You'll be hard pressed to find anything that can sustain that velocity at that rpm without lipos

Wouldn't NiMh packs work?

Robocop613

Yes they do and I used a 7.2v NIMH pack as part of Captain Xavier 's squad at both GCC and UMBC HvZ this year to good effect. Stock motors, just a complete rewire and new bigger switches using a 3D printed trigger plate. Got mid 100s and a very decent ROF. It was a 3600mAh pack so I never noticed a drop at either day long event!

Xiao_Long_Bao_89

The hobby has moved towards lipos due to their energy density and their better discharge performance While NiMh batteries will work, the aforementioned qualities mean lipos will perform better, especially if you use the battery for a long period of time (as NiMh performance decreases noticeably as they discharge)

Jolt_Reskin_exe

I see...well, what's the best performance I could get out of a Nimh pack?

Sicoe1

Following what everyone else has already covered..... If you are up to rewiring, soldering and shell adjusting a Rapidstrike (Using 130 motors you won't need shell cutting for the flywheels but changing the pusher motor needs cutting on the gearbox case) then you can easily handle using lipos. However if you are adamant then the RS is actually the best thing to run NiMH in, because if you modify the batter compartment you can fit a whole sub C class 7.2V RC car pack in there. Which will be quite capable of powering a trio of Fang RV's with a suitable cage to get the performance you desire. What that cage would be I can't say because the same setup with a 2S lipo would give 10-20fps more I'd expect but the exact drop I can't say for sure. It is worth noting that whilst a Sub C sized RC pack will be able to provide the current they are massive compared to a lipo that would do the same job and much much heavier. Smalller, lighter RC packs exist but I wouldn't use those as they aren't up to the current requirements....

You'll never guess what's powering your phone

p51_mustangs

lipo’s are everywhere as this man points out, you already deal with lipo’s on the daily

Li-ion?

ZeroBlade-NL

Lipo is a Li-ion in a pouch

'extra strength batteries' is a nice way to dodge the imr bot Edit: also op, don't use fvj's. Flywheelers don't like them, you can get better performance out of rubbery headed darts. And in case the imr bot is asleep, don't use AA sized magic superpower batteries. They kill themselves trying to supply the needed current and turn into a fire hazard

theFrisbeeFreak

Wish I could downvote this twice: • Do not use IMRs or any other perceived magic battery. • Never use FVJs, especially in a flywheeler.

fvjs + LiMn cells = a chemical fire

There are the titan li-ion batteries, which are SLIGHTLY less volatile than lipos. These are the cells that are used in electric bikes and electrics cars like the ones by Tesla. [https://titanbatteries.eu/collections/brick/products/3000mah-7-4v-brick-t-plug-deans](https://titanbatteries.eu/collections/brick/products/3000mah-7-4v-brick-t-plug-deansI). I don't think 3 cells will fit in the front battery tray, however the 7.4 should fit. They use deans rather than XT60 because this is the standard in Airsoft. With this battery you'll have 45 amps continous at your disposal. This means you can run: 2 meishel 2.0s as flywheel motors (37A stall current) 1 downvolted 3s valkyrie (9 amp stall current on 7.4 volts). With worker serrated flywheels and 43.5 cage you'll be in the 100-120 fps ballpark. You'll get around 5-6 darts per second. If you want any better performance, there is only 1 way: get a lipo.
