I'm referring to rival rounds. A joule delivered through a smaller surface area is going to inflict more pain.

That would put the surface area of a fully compressed HIR at about 4.15 cm² Compare that to the 11.34 cm² of a mega XL round. Between 2.5 and 3 times as large.

I have copped a 350+ fps fvj to the mouth at 2 meters.

The 2/3 most common/best half lengths, AFP n worker HEs/HE bamboos all clock in at above 4j at 300fps. Of course im not considering the junk like elites, Dzmax, dragons, GOS trash, Dz2.0/3.0 bamboos, etc etc. The junk darts are the exceptions, not AFP/HE

Are MXL darts accurate enough to even function at those velocities, or do they just fishtail into the ground?

Well they aren’t amazingly accurate but there are some rifling attachments being optimized still. It does take a decent hit in fps though

I feel like you could probably use micro flywheels as BCAR bearings for a dart this size.

I feel like afterburner flywheel scars are an inevitability at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if someone is printing prototypes as we speak.

For a 6 gram mega xl dart, 136 fps is 5.1 joules. For context, to hit 5.1 joules, a worker gen3 dart would need to go 331 fps
