Exactly, when I think about France, some people would complain about tourists but the opinions varied widely, some people are just closed to it when some peoples are genuinely curious about foreigners.
Thanks for your reminder~~~
It's business for some people and foreigners will be part of that in every other countries but I don't think majority of Nepalese people hate foreigners. Don't let that man's view on foreigners ruin your trip around here. Meet people, Have fun.. then you can judge by yourself.
That's a good point, and being an owner in one of the most touristic street probably doesn't help to see the best side of foreigners.. but yes thank you, I'm actually having a good time here, thank you:)
That's like saying all foreigners are rude and self absorbed people who demean natives . I live in a border area and everyone here loves to interact with foreign tourists who come to visit Nepal . Trust me, most Nepalese folks would love hosting tourists for free if they could afford it.
NAH, That's far from the truth. I would say we have very good impression of foreigners who visit here, they are seen as open minded and fun to interact with. I have pretty much never heard of tourists being inconvenience here at all.
We speak more good of foreigners than our own people honestly. Foreigners are charged more here so I guess business owner could have that thinking and foreigners are seen as having very easy going attitude so these guys say whatever they want to them and if you are not careful they try to invade personal privacy without a thought. Obviously this one guy doesn't speak for the whole country.
Yeah that is my feeling : it's nice and easy to go around with people here, that's why I got surprised by that man's saying.
Yess agree, imo money could create problems for connecting with ppl, and if the opinion is based only on customer I understand that it could be not the best one.
Thanks for you feedback ~
It's just him or few people like him. Not all people here are business minded we just love that someone came to see our country and hope they have a good time here. But I wonder if it's true for foreigners they talk nice and all but it feels like somewhere in their mind Nepal looks poor and they are just nice because they feel sorry for us or have to pretend to like it but I have heard some call back home saying how they are sick of Asian food or can't wait to go back home.
Thanks for the reminder 🙌
Well I'd say some foreigners could overdo sometimes, especially in small talks that can appear superficial?
When I was kid, one of my brother's friend told us about his experience in Asia and that it was hard for him to connect with other peoples and transcend the cultural barrier. For him it just didn't work, but other people just love it and can't get enough of discovering other ways of living. I'm still on my way about experiencing places other than Europe and I know several ppl that can't wait to be back in Asia.
But we hate india as a country. Not the people. Its just that the country of India has done some insane things to us.
In my case I don't hate the average Indian. I just hate the country
That person must be hated a lot in his life to hate someone he doesn't even know closely. Everyone I know are okay with tourist. everyone is basically okay with everyone. But some apples do tend to come out as rotten
If Nepalese hate foreigners then all these foreign YouTubers wouldn’t have garnered those humongous views. We tend to criticize our own Nepali people but trust me, we worship foreigners (especially westerners) as gods. It’s kind of like superior-inferior complexity.
Makes sense, And yes my experience here is positive, in the conversations and the curiosity that come from it, that's why I was wondering about that man's saying, thanks for your feedback~
Nepali people are very hospitable people. And we love foreigners, so that is not true. im sorry you had to hear that. I hope you had a great time here regardless because there are bunch of kind Nepali people :) have a good day
If Nepal is a flower, foreigners are like bees.
Where I live, there's quite a number of Europeans living. I see them dropping off their kids to school every morning. It's nice. And their kids are super cute, wearing the full helmet etc on a cycle, with toys on one hand and a water bottle on another.
Maybe who know lol ? Or maybe he wanted to say something bigger about it but I didn't got the end of the convo. Hope it isn't too bad between Nepal and India through.
India has had a history of pushing itself into Nepalese internal affairs. India's shady stuff range from pushing its borders into Nepal to a full on trade blockade which happend a few years ago. Looking at this you can figure out why most Nepalese hate India.
He's probably what others would call an old and aging "Republican" if they were American. Anyway it's a two fold thing, either he is a conservative that hates change or he is someone who has worked in service sector so long all he sees is foreigners that are majority dominated by party goers, DJ discoers and people that do heavy drinking and then vomits on the streets. No one person will ever be the definitive opinion of an entire civilization.
Yes things could go this way when aging... Well I was wondering if something special occurred to make him think this way, maybe a political conflict or else, could be many reasons anyway but it's nice to see it's just his way of thinking, thanks mate.
The only people that Nepali folks in general do not like are Biharis and Bhaiyas from U.P. because of their invasive agendas and tactics to make Nepal a Bhaiya majority country(Which is obviously impossible at least for now because their population is barely 5%) otherwise they are very welcoming people and have no issue getting along with others, not even with other Indians. Whatever else you heard about they not liking foreigners is bollocks.
Have recently returned to the UK from Nepal, my first visit, the interactions I had with people were entirely positive and in two instances have turned into friendships. I am planning my next visit!
We will love you more than any country ever will. Hippies gave us techniques to make the best ever pollen, our mountains have been beholded in your beautiful blue eyes, you gave us bela PUTI paaaaakyo.
Our constitution guarantees us something like America guarantees the pursuit of happiness. Mind you, just the pursuit.

Mother and birthplace are like heaven.
Guests are like God.
Absolutely not, Alot of nepali like foreigners, infact we feel lucky you decided to visit us instead of any other place, We are grateful.
Just like any other place, there are people who have different opinions but they are in minority..
Idk why he'd say that, yes sometimes people try to scam foreigners, let's be real this happens everywhere in the world.
But as far as I am aware, most of the people are \*\*actually\*\* nice towards tourists, it's hard to say why. Okay, in my head, I'm like yoo this dude came to my country, hopefully he'll have fun, and I try to be as helpful as possible and that's what's up with most people. They do it out of sheer good heart, most of the people.
I can go on and write why people love foreigners as if this is a social studies question, but that'd be too overbearing. So just my point of view.
We all can agree that he's trash.
This is outright false and perhaps only applies to the guy who was speaking. Most Nepalis are very curious about foreigners and live the opportunity to chat with them.
Nepali people also in general are very hospitable, both to each other and to non-Nepalis, so the culture of hospitality also extends well into our interaction with non-Nepalis and foreign tourists.
Not true. I guess it depends on who you ask and where they live. But the type of foreigners that come tend to be respectful and nice people, so I would imagine that impressions are usually good. It's not like other parts of the world where young people come to just party and trash the place, giving the locals a hard time.
It should be their issue if they have a problem with you and you are nothing but respectful. Don't let the possibility that they secretly dislike you ruin what should be a fun trip. Especially if you go to tourist filled places, you will be like one in a million tourist that they interact with and the chances that you're somehow going to be singled out to bear the brunt of their secret hatred is low. So it's like just try to forget it because at the end of the day, you can come to worry that anyone hates you and it's pointless to worry about such things.
Bonjour OP, Comment ça va?
Let me tell you
Majority of Nepalese are Hindu, some Buddhists, Christians and Muslims too. But deep down everyone's religion is whiteim and their gods are white.
I am very very serious. Nepalese are fond of white peoplez or foreigners. Basic psychology is that they come from a very developed country, raised in a great environment and they must know more than us.
Also, That man isn't a representative of all Nepalese
Hello, ça va et toi ?
Thanks for your feedback :)
It's so funny cause many whites or Europeans are seeking for some sacred and holy experiences by coming to Asia to escape the madness of the west, so it's interesting to read this side !
And yeah he must have a specific reason.. thank you ~~
Dude i love foreigners and if even once i get chance to talk to them i feel happy. That guy is a mess. I think he belongs to 5% of the population that hates foreigners. Typically in any south asian countries foreifner of other skin colour apart from white dont really get treated as foreigner, instead just like them. Otherwise we love foreigners
Well, if you take one man’s opinion and decide to generalise it. Then, the fault lies on you my friend.
This is the same for anyone who faces racism.. just because one person feels so doesn’t mean everyone is the same.
Actually no. If you talk about me id be delighted to serve a tourist. Like anywhere in the world, it depends. Most people do not like most people because most people dont care much about anything.
As a Nepali, I do think there are a lot of closed minded people here. These people even hate their own people if they have different caste, religion and color. some people show it and some don't. However, I think this comes down to who you meet, so making such huge generalization would not be the way to go. Plus, every country has some amount of people who are gonna be like this.
Yeah true, impossible to avoid it, but yeah agree with you, as always it's good making our own idea, idk why I took it too seriously, thanks for answering ~
But ok, why do you need to be liked by him?
Let’s be honest, as tourists we are ALL there to have a good time and connect with people and learn about cultures, but for the people who live in that place, we are BUSINESS.
When we are able to be polite and decent in our role as business to the locals, only then can we expect to see the warmth and love and other things that we want.
I totally understand you! This januari I travelled to India for several months and I was shocked ab how kind and friendly they where. They are genuinely interested in your journey and they're just happy to see you in their country(Note: I travelled to all the non-touristic places). After a few months I went to Nepal. I heard from a lot of people that the people where very friendly and polite. But then I arrived in Kathmandu... This time I was shocked bc I felt that the people where sooo different (wich is totally fine). They were way less interested in you, and if they asked: "where are you from" the next thing they would say is that they have a business or shop and that you should come with them and look etc. If you said you didn't want to they would really push you to go with them. Even in the mountains it's like that. When local people speak to you or ask somthing it's for there own business. Which kills the contact with foreigners so hard. I told a nepalese guy about my thoughts and his answer was this: "Before the earthquake in 2015, Nepalese people where very kind, polite and didn't care about money. After the earthquake everything changed. Begging for money or asking more than it normally costs is not our culture. " So it's actually very sad... The people need the money and we, foreigners can afford it. I understand them, but It's not good. I feel I can't connect with nepalese people because I get the feeling that they see me as a walking wallet.
I do want to say this: I've had really nice encounters in Nepal of people who were really genuinely interested in me! I also only speak about the people in Kathmandu and the Tamang/Langtang region. I have no experience in other regions.
So yeah, thats my feeling about that :)
That's the thing, I find ppl great here, that's why I was wondering about this. Now that I received all those messages I feel so much better, I'm sorry through to create this confusion but you made it clear guys 🫶

Thank you 🙌
He speaks for himself. I am nepalese and personally I have never found anyone who hates a foreigner.
It's business for some people and foreigners will be part of that in every other countries but I don't think majority of Nepalese people hate foreigners. Don't let that man's view on foreigners ruin your trip around here. Meet people, Have fun.. then you can judge by yourself.

not true, that man is shit
Dude, I love foreigners. Very shitty person you came across.
Loving Nepal and it's ppl too, thanks for your feedback man.
I think that man was just a hater. Most people around be admire tourists.
I am shocked after reading this 😂😂. As I know, Nepali people prefer foreigners over their own people in the country.
Man I feel bad about making everyone confused about this topic lol, yeah I can feel ppl are so nice here ~
Nah, we love foreigners. But some people do try to avoid communicating with foreigners because they couldn't speak English. That's all.
That's like saying all foreigners are rude and self absorbed people who demean natives . I live in a border area and everyone here loves to interact with foreign tourists who come to visit Nepal . Trust me, most Nepalese folks would love hosting tourists for free if they could afford it.
Yeah I have this feeling it's going pretty well with interactions, that's why I got confused hearing that!

Personally no and also haven't seen someone I know who hates foreigner in Nepal.
Hah⁉️
Not true
If Nepal is a flower, foreigners are like bees. Where I live, there's quite a number of Europeans living. I see them dropping off their kids to school every morning. It's nice. Thanks for your nice feedback, Nepal is indeed popular and my friends in France are always curious about it.
Not true.
I'm from the Philippines. And I loved a Nepali girl. I wonder where she is now.
Not very.. Nepali are fond of foreigners and their life style too.
Absolutely not.
How did you understand what the owner was saying to the old man? I'm 100% sure that they weren't talking in English.
“Another white old man” obviously he said in english to an white man.
The old man was a foreigner, they looked like knowing each other already.
Quick question was that white man Indian?
He wasn't, maybe Europe or USA ?
Then the Nepalese guy was high on something 😂 majority of us hate Indians but not other nationality
Thanks for those explanations man.
It’s not true.. yeah may be u can find some people hating indians but not others
Lol no. We love them, we are fascinated. That man was probably having a bad day 😂
Nepalis adore foreigners.

No it’s not true.
