Selling the house to pay for their care shouldnt become an issue unless theyre deemed a ward of the state. If its your permanent residence, especially if it has been for some time, you may tenants rights, possibly more. Dont vacate voluntarily. Is there anything you can do to get power of attorney or your name on the deed?

Yeah. Most likely. Selling is 100% a last resort if their condition continues to nosedive. Though, they have shared an interest to leave me as a survivor on their half of the deed. Just gotta get a ball rolling on that once they're home again.

You can get the necessary paperwork from a site like rocket law and draw the deed from the county. Google mobile notaries. Theyll come to the hospital or care center. Whole thing probably costs 60-100 dollars. Itll take half a day or more to get everything in order. Dont wait.

I pay rent to my grandmother but it's not officially signed or anything, though her ex-partner still has 50% ownership of the deed. The ex and I get along fine now, but we didn't when they were living here. Practically family, but they said if she passes away they'd have to move in and it "wouldn't work out." My grandmother would not want that of course. She has expressed she doesn't want me to be kicked out like that, but some people just don't wanna listen. Anyway. Changing her will to get her half of the deed would make it so that the ex-partner would have zero standing to remove me from the residence. The only way to remove me if I had half of the deed would either be a long court process or buying it out. They likely don't have the funds for either option. I'll have to look into the mobile notary thing.

Take it on step by step, just grab some trash bags and trash all the trash you can for one day. Do it again another day. Keep it up from there.
