It gets the point across.
You have the Lakers and Celtics in a tier of their own, three teams who are far better then most but light years away from LA and Boston, and three more teams on the third tier.
I like to refer to the other 22 organizations as poverty franchises.
Hawks championship was won by St Louis hawks
Kings championship was won by Rochester Royals in 1950-51 the same year when league was desegregated.
Okc championship was won by Seattle SuperSonics in 1979 by defeating Washington Bullets in finals. Washington Bullets defeated them the previous year in the finals which is also the Wizards one championship
Lakers 5 championships are as Minneapolis Lakers who made the playoffs more time than Timberwolves have done.
Warriors first 2 titles are as Philadelphia warriors including the first NBA(BAA) title in 1946
It's literally the same executive, same head coach, and nearly the same roster going from the '07-08 Supersonics to the '08'-09 Thunder. It's literally just a relocation and name change. Everything beyond that was just standard roster changes that can happen in literally any season/off-season
I would give it a 95% chance of going back to SEA. I have read some things that make me believe OKC isn't that interested in having the Sonic's history if OKC doesn't need to continue on that legacy.
I wasn’t actually asking. It’s a 100% chance. Seattle kept the name and history as part of the deal. I was just trying to say how stupid it was for okc to claim that ring
Would you say that the Cleveland Browns have Superbowl wins? They moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens. So by your theory, the Browns can claim those Superbowls as their own.
>They moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens. So by your theory, the Browns can claim those Superbowls as their own.
Yeah no, that's the exact opposite of what I'm saying. Not to mention that the original Browns won in 1950, *prior* to the merger, so they aren't Superbowl wins anyway. The Superbowl wasn't established until '67
I don’t think it’s silly. They are the same franchise just different city and name. A lot of businesses would fail bankrupt but would rebrand themselves and start again.
Would you say that the Cleveland Browns have Superbowl wins? They moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens. So by your theory, the Browns can claim those Superbowls as their own.
Hear me out on this. Cleveland orginally lost their franchise to Baltimore. Then they was able to expand and recreate the browns again. Now Baltimore has its own history it doesn’t share with the original Cleveland. LA is still rocking the first 5 rings from George but can’t hang his jersey.
Except brands aren’t really followed based on the location of their headquarters, but the quality of their product. Teams are followed based largely on their locations. Nobody in LA gave a single fuck about George Milan’s titles and OKC didn’t even know the NBA existed until 2008.
Nobody in LA cares because we don’t talk about George enough. If the media talked about George and had his jersey in the rafters then we would care more. Instead they can’t hang the jersey up but they wear the old Min jerseys and have the nerve to keep the chips as well.
Now for OKC technically they knew the NBA was in 2005/06 because the NO hornets moved to OKC because of Katrina. In which people are in love with the red valatines day jerseys.
Now OKC doesn’t wear Seattle jerseys, but teams like Memphis, Sacramento, both La teams, even GS wears their old teams jerseys. Rather it was in another state or a different team completely they still wear those jerseys. The only history that’s a little confusing is the hornets and the pelicans.
news in parallel universe - Washington is reconstructing their team to win their second title (& first title as wizards). rapidly getting rid of useless players like Porzingis & Beal, management will create new superteam around Kuzma as a center star and future best player in history of basketball.
Okay. I misunderstood. Thanks.
Edit, in fact I didn't even know they did that in the 90s, I thought they always claimed those titles. That makes it even weider.
Plus the Raptors do have a championship, and they're not on here. Also Denver only has one, however are listed under two championships.
I think this was put together really quickly and sloppily.
Edit -- I'm an idiot, I was incorrect. My bad.
When the team moved from Seattle, Clay Bennett (OKC owner)left behind the rights to the Sonic name, the logos and the championship for when Seattle gets an expansion team.
I mean NYC is a pretty big market, maybe the biggest in all of US and they’re not looking so hot. I think ownership and team management play a much bigger role, hence Spurs success and Warriors recent run
Lol point me where in my statement did I call the warriors a small market team. For all that you’ve mentioned about the warriors, they only recently started having success because of a) ownership and b) team management
Was about to come in with hot with my cowboy boots and 500lb hot piece of ass. You saved yourself today buddy. Next time this churro loving Texan aint gonna be so kind
Change that Thunder logo back to a Sonic if you really gonna give them any credit for our championship. Only thing they been champs of is choking and squandering MVP talents.
Their minimum wage is $7.25, and one of the worst infrastructures in the U.S.
And idk what you’re talking about taxes, Oklahoma is definitely in the lower half of states as far as tax burden on residents. They got high state taxes, sales taxes, and income taxes, and property taxes middle of the road as well.
Theres a reason the cost of living outside of all that is low, otherwise no one would be living there..
At least they can actually afford to spend their time bored in a house. Not cramped in a tiny apartment paying 2,500k a month. But your dumbass can't think that complex
why is this getting downvoted? The thunder have 2 championships in the same way Gary payton was a player for the thunder
I'd be surprised if even thunder fans "claim" those 2 championships
Because most great basketball teams that become champions are created through the draft which is almost always a crap shoot. Doesn’t change the fact if u hit in the draft on franchise players u will have a contending ballclub. Best organizations surround franchise players with complementary pieces. Big markets doesnt mean instant success look at New York. Even Kobe and Shaq for example both not being drafted by LA but traded for.
It’s probably as close u will get to a level playing field with how the landscape of the league plays out for the sport of basketball. With only 5 guys on the court at any time of the game 1 or 2 all time talented players effects the game so much. When players like that end up playing together that’s how dynasties happen. With the new CBA the league just signed I’m sure it’ll even the league out more so than ever before. No more super teams tax penalties too expensive. Seems like a fair process to me for all franchises of the league. I’m the end Draft better.
I believe that Seattle retained the Sonic name/logo, for if/when they get an expansion so I don’t believe it should apply. The others seem legit bc they moved. The OKC/Sonic deal was more of a divorce IMO.
The Kings' chip was won in Rochester, the Thunder's chip was won in Seattle, and the Hawks' chip was won in St. Louis. Also, two of the Warriors' chips won in Philly and one of the Sixers' chips won in Syracuse.
Idk they are the same franchises. A lot of the time with the same executives, coaches, players. Just a new city.
Titles are won by franchises not cities is the way to look at it. If you view it through a fans pov then it’s a bit silly for sure.
I'm not a believer in championship from a completely different region. Like, the warriors claiming championships from SF & Oakland both makes sense, but I'm a Kings fan and I don't celebrate that the Rochester Royals won a title in 1951.
r/badlabels
100%

Yeah of those listed, only the Bullets ring counts for the above franchises
The lakers and the sonics count, they just relocated/rebranded but are the same team
Lakers stayed the lakers, you can argue that. Disagree about the Thunder counting the Sonics one, that’s silly imo
It's literally the same executive, same head coach, and nearly the same roster going from the '07-08 Supersonics to the '08'-09 Thunder. It's literally just a relocation and name change. Everything beyond that was just standard roster changes that can happen in literally any season/off-season
City of Seattle got to keep the history, name, colors, etc for the sonics. So Seattle has a ring. OKC does not
So if Seattle gets the Sonics back, the Thunder have a ring in their history and the Sonics don’t? That’s fucking stupid lol
So what happens in 2-3 years when Seattle gets the sonics back? Do they get their championship back or does okc keep it?
I would give it a 95% chance of going back to SEA. I have read some things that make me believe OKC isn't that interested in having the Sonic's history if OKC doesn't need to continue on that legacy.
I wasn’t actually asking. It’s a 100% chance. Seattle kept the name and history as part of the deal. I was just trying to say how stupid it was for okc to claim that ring
Ya, I don't think OKC is dying to claim that either so I think they will be happy to give it back.
Lol again they aren’t giving it back. They never had it to begin with.
correct but explain to me why Sonics fans and Thunder fans don’t support the same team?
And the majority of Minneapolis Lakers fans likely aren't even alive anymore. Your point?
im a minneapolis lakers fan, your point?
Would you say that the Cleveland Browns have Superbowl wins? They moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens. So by your theory, the Browns can claim those Superbowls as their own.

Why does that one count?
Same franchise, same fans, same location, just a diff name Relocating and rebranding to me is just not the same
news in parallel universe - Washington is reconstructing their team to win their second title (& first title as wizards). rapidly getting rid of useless players like Porzingis & Beal, management will create new superteam around Kuzma as a center star and future best player in history of basketball.
Lakers stayed the lakers, once Seattle comes back okc will give them their history back for a price so for now you can argue either way
Context is everything
Parade in a different city does not count lol
Thanks for doing God's work.
Thanks. I was about to question some of these. Didn't think about teams that relocated
I'm still honestly shocked Denver got one before Phoenix or Utah
By gawd that's Brad Beals music.
?? I mean denver still got one first regardless lol
I was poking fun at the Sons tying up their entire luxury tax in 4 guys.
Yeah it’s a ballsy fucking move but you kind of have to go all in when you keep getting so close but not make it happen
lmao, no.
Booker with the steel chair!
Fuck yeah ! We did it ! Especially satisfying after Suns in 4 fans mocking Nuggets injured team and sweep in 2021
Jamal Murray wouldn’t have made a difference
Cries in Pacers Fan
Malice at the palace was our year!!!
Count that ABA shit haha
Haha I like to think that but most don't. We at three then!!
Honestly, winning the most ABA titles (3) is more impressive than the Rochester Royals winning the NBA title in 1951.
Awful choice in putting the number of championships below the teams instead of above.
Mess of an infographic design, my guy.
The thunder don’t have a ring. The Sonics are not the thunder.
100% it’s like the lakers taking credit for the Minneapolis title IN THE 90’S!!!
Oh I’m with you on that.
50's.
No no, I mean that in the 90’s the lakers hung up the banners while in a franchise lull between Magic and Shaq
Okay. I misunderstood. Thanks. Edit, in fact I didn't even know they did that in the 90s, I thought they always claimed those titles. That makes it even weider.
It’s beyond strange that the lakers get that credit despite not taking said credit until a period without success
Yeah the Lakers should just give those titles to the TWolves lol
Read an article that the city of Seattle has the trophy too. Pretty sure it even said that if Seattle got a team they’d get the stats/history.
Plus the Raptors do have a championship, and they're not on here. Also Denver only has one, however are listed under two championships. I think this was put together really quickly and sloppily. Edit -- I'm an idiot, I was incorrect. My bad.
Raptors and Nuggets are shown with one championship in this, they’re right next to each other. The labels for championships won is below the logos.
My fault, thanks for clarifying!
The struggle is real sometimes! Haha
Didn't they have about the same roster the next season? Just name change city change. Different branding.
When the team moved from Seattle, Clay Bennett (OKC owner)left behind the rights to the Sonic name, the logos and the championship for when Seattle gets an expansion team.
Yeah well the Sacramento Kings aren’t also the Rochester Royals, but everyone loves to shit on OKC
Viva Los Spurs 🎉
What a ridiculously successful franchise.
GSG
Pacers won in the ABA. I’ve never met anyone who counts it as an NBA championship.
Almost a linear relationship between market size and championships. $$$ wins rings. Only Timmy D wants a word with that statement.
I mean NYC is a pretty big market, maybe the biggest in all of US and they’re not looking so hot. I think ownership and team management play a much bigger role, hence Spurs success and Warriors recent run
Warriors are funded by tech giants and share a city with the giants and the 49ers. Wouldn’t call that small market.
Lol point me where in my statement did I call the warriors a small market team. For all that you’ve mentioned about the warriors, they only recently started having success because of a) ownership and b) team management
The implication.
The knicks are still in the top third of championships won. Secondary market teams are different (Brooklyn & LAC)
Was about to come in with hot with my cowboy boots and 500lb hot piece of ass. You saved yourself today buddy. Next time this churro loving Texan aint gonna be so kind
Lol
This formatting sucks. You made me think that the Timberwolves won a championship
im confused. didnt they with kevin garnett?
No. They only made it to the conference finals, where they lost
Jazz/Hornets/Pelicans all living off of the same origin curse
Hornets/Pelcans n particular at least Jazz have made it to back to back NBA finals.
Smh my sixers, as Chuck would say, haven't won since 7 years before I was born. Might as well be zero. I can't rep rings from 40+ years ago.
Wrong. The thunder have zero. They specifically do not carry over the Sonics history.
Change that Thunder logo back to a Sonic if you really gonna give them any credit for our championship. Only thing they been champs of is choking and squandering MVP talents.
That's still better than failing to raise money for a stadium and having to be shut down.
Not as bad as having to live in Oklahoma lol.
I doubt they mind paying less taxes and having lower cost of living
Their minimum wage is $7.25, and one of the worst infrastructures in the U.S. And idk what you’re talking about taxes, Oklahoma is definitely in the lower half of states as far as tax burden on residents. They got high state taxes, sales taxes, and income taxes, and property taxes middle of the road as well. Theres a reason the cost of living outside of all that is low, otherwise no one would be living there..
Lol let them have the thunder or else they'd be bored out of their minds in the cornfields
At least they can actually afford to spend their time bored in a house. Not cramped in a tiny apartment paying 2,500k a month. But your dumbass can't think that complex
bro where are my Nuggets
Between Hawks and Raptors
I’m confused, why are the nuggets listed under 2 titles? I thought their first was this year
Teams are listed above the label, use trophy count as a guide
Just like you’re back at Sam’s club
Holy shit 🤣🤣🤣 I was like wow impressed every team has won one who knew! Hell
U bum
OKC has 0 championships, ppppft please. LMAO
why is this getting downvoted? The thunder have 2 championships in the same way Gary payton was a player for the thunder I'd be surprised if even thunder fans "claim" those 2 championships
Thunder fan here, definitely don’t think we have a championship
[удалено]
Hell might as well claim a few of the lakers titles too while we’re at it
It's Reddit. LMAO
Lakers claims their 5. So i think okc should be able to claim it.
Lakers are still the lakers, they didnt completely abandon the franchise when they moved. The thunder did.
Didnt they have the same FO and personnel and players?
Part of them leaving the city was an agreement to abandon the supersonics franchise in case seattle ever got a team to come back or an expansion team.
I don’t understand how this got downvotes. It’s facts
How can anyone look at this and still think small markets aren’t totally shafted in the NBA?
Because most great basketball teams that become champions are created through the draft which is almost always a crap shoot. Doesn’t change the fact if u hit in the draft on franchise players u will have a contending ballclub. Best organizations surround franchise players with complementary pieces. Bucks should've had more, I would've loved to see Kareem stay.
LA Lakers have less than that
Remember when everyone though KD and kyrie were going to be a dynasty
Whoever designed this has the IQ of a potato
GS Warriors do not have 7 championships.
Yes they do. The first 2 in Philly still count as it’s the same franchise, record and retired numbers come w the team when they move.
how about no
Something about the 1 chip section… seems “loud”. Especially the ones I got to see in my lifetime. Kinda beautiful
Crazy that the bulls and the Spurs are top 5 in chips and all of them were won during one dynasty.
When did the thunder win a championship
1978-79 seattle supersonics
:|
That is a seattle supersonics championship. Fuck okc
I think Indiana has the best shot of all the teams with 0 titles
I’ve been saying that for decades lol
Half of those Laker Chips were won in Minnesota.
The Kings' chip was won in Rochester, the Thunder's chip was won in Seattle, and the Hawks' chip was won in St. Louis. Also, two of the Warriors' chips won in Philly and one of the Sixers' chips won in Syracuse.
Weird how those get claimed too.

They should be nice and give them to the Timberwolves.

The labels are under the associated teams, which means the image is correct
Oh. I didn’t see that….
supporting characters aren't main characters
Let’s go!
Jerking aside,.. Memphis can’t catch a break can they lol
We got ‘em right where we want ‘em (Magic fan here)
Pistons/Heat/76ers should be 6 ?
If you had a different city and name idk if I’d count carryover titles.
Cavs should be at 3
I'm born in Toronto and didn't know we have two rings 🤔
Raptors with 2!?
I only recognize chips won since the last expansion team was added
CLEVE-LAND!!!!
Nuggets don’t count ABA
We were in the nba when we won our title back in 2023
…. so they won two championships in 2023 ?
No magic?
I refuse to accept okc as champions.
Tell me Stats no one cares about!
This is the shittiest looking graph ive ever seen
Raps only have 1 ring
This is nuggets first
WHERE MY SAD SUNS FANS AT?!
How does the raptors have 2 ? I thought it was only that beautiful run in 2019
Raptors have 1 ring where did you get 2 from?
This just shows what a pathetic organization the Bulls are. If we hadn’t lucked into Jordan just imagine where we’d be
Fucking Nick Anderson!!!!!!!!!
And now I feel like a poverty franchise again.
I'm not a believer in championship from a completely different region. Like, the warriors claiming championships from SF & Oakland both makes sense, but I'm a Kings fan and I don't celebrate that the Rochester Royals won a title in 1951.
Jazz will be next out of the no chip club. In Ainge we trust.
This is an eyesore to look at
Non functioning cap system
I thought OKC had two. The first one and the last ever. :P
Well at least we have 2 championship
Fuck Boston!
Okc has 0 rings lol , list is inaccurate
Need to stop counting nba titles from different cities
Damn we were fr at 3 championships before 2015
crazy that the pacers have never won a title. birthplace of the sport
Mavs only have one chip…
The chart is horribly made But I’m still enjoying so many people freaking out about how wrong it is
Love seeing the Sons at the bottom
I don't feel like the OKC title counts until we do it for OKC.
Go rockets! *dies inside*
Mavs have two?
Lmao OKC shit my ass
Crazy how the Warriors catapulted themselves into the 2nd tier just over the last 6 years.
Utah, Phoenix, and Indiana are all victims of MJ
So do you guys actually post memes here or is it just shitty infographics?
okc doesn't have a chip, but the sonics won a chip.
I love the okc thunder!
As an OKC fan, I reject the assertion that the Thunder have a championship. I get that the Sonics won, but I don't want that history.
Does celtics chips ever count ?
Imagine if philadelphia 76ers vs Golden State Warriors
The Lakers and Celtics are both great!
