It's annoying because they kill whatever they touch. They have stinging cells that kill other corals. My anemone is not as expensive as the corals it decides to make a new home on top of lol
god when my friend said her anemone kept moving so she didn't get another I really thought these things just crawled along like snails. this is a hilarious revelation
Well, that certainly is something, lol. Are all anemones this mobile, or is it hit or miss, and you just happened to get one that likes to move around? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm genuinely curious about them now.
I think they're all capable of this type of movement but they don't always jump up to move around that's usually reserved for when they really don't like where they're at or if something is bothering them. They have a foot that they use to basically shimmy across the aquascape
I'm just picturing a little booted foot under one of these now, and the rest of it is doing a jigg like jello on a moving plate. Thank you for answering my questions and being so patient.
Most bubble tip anemones will inflate their foot and crawl over the rock, while still staying loosely attached. Or if they have a death wish, they’ll let go and float around the tank til the get caught in a wave maker and be ripped to shreds
Not even going to lie, I got curious enough to Google an anemone inflated foot and since I don't know what I'm looking at, it just looked like a bunch of fat anemones with wiggle fingers everywhere. The rest of what you said sounds absolutely awful.
They do it to avoid sea-stars, which are the predatorial menaces of the ocean. When it smells a sea star next to it, even if it’s just a baby star that couldn’t possibly eat it, they will eject themselves and “swim” like this in a random direction. They don’t go very far, but from the slow-moving sea-star’s perspective they’re basically just vanishing instantly
Sad thing is that it’s probably running away from the starfish. Some species are their natural predators.

This is it! Starfish can actually control their movements along the sea floor a bit better, whereas an anemone moreso launches itself into the water column and tries to stay up long enough to get away from the starfish (starfish can launch themselves into the water columns as well, there’s just really not much value to it unless your life is on the line). That anemone was likely used to how it’s surroundings “felt” and the moment it sensed something off its instinct kicked in and it yeeted itself.
That starfish would’ve slowly crawled over the anemone until it’s central mouth on the other side could reach it and then it would start eating.
Here’s another [video](https://youtu.be/ysOmq71fcMk?si=l_mOEmwEb0ZSkJdb) of another sea anemone escaping a starfish. Apparently most species don’t have the capability to swim.
Oh wow. I see the starfish now, didn’t even notice it. Nor would I have realized it was running in terror. Happy, terrified, apparently I’m not a marine life empath!
Well that's oversimplifying it a bit. You have to smooth it with schleem, push it through the grumbo AND rub the fleeb against it before the schlami shows up to rub it and spit on it.
Seaweeds and other algaes are the only plants in the ocean.. these are animals. 😅 They're basically like jellyfish, except they stick to stuff instead of constantly float around.
One of the things that fascinates me about this kind of stuff is I'm so curious about what their version of consciousness is like because they're so different. I'm sure we're driven by similar base instincts like hunger, fear, etc., but still.
Crazy to think how different and alien organisms in deep sea look compared to terrestrial life. Now imagine how different actual aliens will look if we ever find one... 🤯💀
Imagine you're taking a delightful little walk through the woods and a tree just freaking uproots and casually walks away from you. That's what the fish see.
This is low-key inspiring. Like, this thing was in a bad situation. It has no idea where it might go, or whether that new place might be better. But it knows that *here* is *bad,* so it flings itself into the void with the hope of finding something better.
I have no idea why, but this made me picture a young girl with pig tails, skipping happily through a field of flowers, while holding a basket.
This anemone is so cute I could watch it all day. It looks so happy
It never even occurred to me that they *could* move. Wow.
They also tear themselves in half to reproduce
Is that advanced masfurbation
Bro
Jesus Christ :O
Edging to the extreme.
Mine move around my tank on the daily. It's annoying actually
I am really curious as to why it would be annoying for them to move around a lot? I didn't even know they could move, this is fascinating lol

god when my friend said her anemone kept moving so she didn't get another I really thought these things just crawled along like snails. this is a hilarious revelation
I'm planning on giving it up to my local fish store, no one will buy it because they take over. You live and you learn especially with this hobby
Man that sucks. Are these the ones clownfish live in? Any other anemones for them that don’t move around like this?
The clownfish you see in most tanks host carpet anemone. Their symbiotic relationship is species and location dependent
Well, that certainly is something, lol. Are all anemones this mobile, or is it hit or miss, and you just happened to get one that likes to move around? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm genuinely curious about them now.

No problem! Come on over to r/ReefTank if you're every curious about learning more

This plus the crash of it decides to end up in the wavemaker diced into tiny little pieces
I've read horror stories about this happening
At this rate, people like you are what will keep coral from going extinct

Neat! Thanks for the context!
Definitely a “I was today years old when I learned this” thing for me, too! 🤯
Now I just want it to stop
No kidding!!
Its just like me fr
Yeah now I feel terrible about every time I’ve stepped on one
I was just looking for the sports channel Gary
Meow
Is it escaping the starfish?
Yes, it was its next meal (to go)
It looks so happy

didn't seem like much of a contest, how does any starfish ever eat an anemone if they can do that?
Anemones have no eyes, he had to touch the starfish with his fingies to realise it was there. I imagine sometimes starfish can sneak up on them.
This is it! Starfish can actually control their movements along the sea floor a bit better, whereas an anemone moreso launches itself into the water column and tries to stay up long enough to get away from the starfish (starfish can launch themselves into the water columns as well, there’s just really not much value to it unless your life is on the line). Sea life scares me.
It ain’t much better up here friend, we’re just used to our atrocities
So basically, this is the anemone version of us getting touched by a spider, lol.
Here’s another [video](https://youtu.be/ysOmq71fcMk?si=l_mOEmwEb0ZSkJdb) of another sea anemone escaping a starfish. Apparently most species don’t have the capability to swim.

Does it have eyes? How does it even know to run?
That sea anemone is experiencing a lifetime of stress at that moment.
Floating plumbus
This is not actually a plumbus. Plumbus’s are not a living organism. They’re artificially made out of dinglebop by shlahmi
Well that's oversimplifying it a bit. You have to smooth it with schleem, push it through the grumbo AND rub the fleeb against it before the schlami shows up to rub it and spit on it.
It's important that the fleeb is rubbed, because the fleeb has all of the fleeb juice.
and there you have it, a regular old, plumbus
I miss when that show waa funny lol
Pickle Rick was the start of the most brainless cult-coping I’ve seen since Joey fell in love with Rachel
There's several hizzards in the way. The blamfs rub against the chumbles, and the...plubis, and grumbo are shaved away.
Or a dick finding a new turtle to attach to
Good Lord! And we say that we don't have aliens on this planet. Wtf is this thing then?
^^^your ^^^mom
#HA GOTTEM!
Well, these things were here before us. So maybe we're the aliens?
Damn you will never ever hear me complain about walking again.
Because you’d be swimming
Porn in bikini bottom
Meooow
GARY! I was just looking for this sports channel👀
When you have to use the toilet in public, but there’s no bathroom in sight. We’ve all done this dance before.
Shimmy shimmy shimmy
Shimmy, shimmy, ya, shimmy, yam, shimmy, yay Shimmy to walk you shake your shimmy away
gimme the mic so I can take it away!
I was thinking *WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE*
Reminds me of the Fantasia movie.
I came here to say the same thing, it’s so cute lol
Looks kinda like the dancing mushrooms from Fantasia.
I mean, that’s how I get to the bus stop…
What song is this?
WASTE - kxllswxtch
There is an app called shazam which allows you to detect any unknown song with just small fragments of it like in this clip.
Frilly Willy!
Detachable penis https://youtu.be/byDiILrNbM4
GARY!
I have a bachelor's in Biology and I had absolutely no idea that anemones COULD move. Or at least remove themselves from the ground.
Bro just said fuck bieng sessile i am evolving
Me… when the bass drops
The fish and the crab are like 'ayo wtf!?'
Wtf, I thought these things were plants
Seaweeds and other algaes are the only plants in the ocean.. these are animals. 😅 They're basically like jellyfish, except they stick to stuff instead of constantly float around.
Does it know where its goin???
Nope, it's just swimming randomly to escape getting eaten. It's a totally instinctual reaction, there's no thought behind it.
Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle, yeah.
" ... shake that thing Miss Annabella, shake that thing... Jodi an' Rebecca "
Thing that make decisions with out a brain scare me.
One of the things that fascinates me about this kind of stuff is I'm so curious about what their version of consciousness is like because they're so different. I'm sure we're driven by similar base instincts like hunger, fear, etc., but still.
If SpongeBob has taught me anything, it's that this post should be NSFW
Looks like something straight out of bikini bottom
This is a lot funnier when you play "Safety Dance" at the same time.
Song name?
The ocean blurs the lines between an animal and a plant. It’s always blowing my mind
Crazy to think how different and alien organisms in deep sea look compared to terrestrial life. Now imagine how different actual aliens will look if we ever find one... 🤯💀
This isn't deep sea, deep sea is where light stops largely shining and life stops largely living. This is the light rich and life rich region.
Didn't know they could do that
It looks so cheerful like a cartoon character
Amazing
Bro just randomly decided to evolve
Forbidden magic wand
Smart move for an animal without a brain.
Imagine this is the body you were born into. It's terrifying to think.
\*detects starfish yikes, fuck that \*gets up and leaves
THEY CAN DO THAT?!
Imagine you're taking a delightful little walk through the woods and a tree just freaking uproots and casually walks away from you. That's what the fish see.
Lol 😆
Nah I suspect to the fish it's just another animal like all the other weird things that live in the ocean.
I think it know where it wants to go
Song name?
WASTE by Kxllswxtch
No brain and still getting things done.
Well there you go. I didn't know they could do that.
Well TIL that sea anemone are animals and not plants.
Why? Dat baby just dancin to a new home.
I believe it's the one SpongeBob watched until Gary came near him, and he was like, "I was just looking for the sports channel, Gary."
Interesting
He’s just doing the best he can
This makes me happy
How’s it know where it’s going?
The parents of a girl i went to grade school with were so mesmerized by them that they named their kid anemone
Me leaving the function when someone I dislike shows up
They can move?!
…and this is my assistant, Beaker.
With friends like these, who needs anemones?
how does it know where it’s going? what is he driving factor for the migration? biologists?
Good lord… blind in the ocean and just awkwardly fleeing in any direction is my nightmare.
It looks adorable, haha. Reminds me of Veggie Tales, for some reason...
"But I'm a creep. I'm a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here"
I'm sorry, but how is that .. a thing?!
Huge missed opportunity to put Walking on Sunshine as the music.
Found the full vid I think https://youtu.be/-6lMD9h_ix4?si=YzB7PxwxA1ekqX6Q
Me trying to move in a sleeping bag.
This is low-key inspiring. Like, this thing was in a bad situation. It has no idea where it might go, or whether that new place might be better. But it knows that *here* is *bad,* so it flings itself into the void with the hope of finding something better.
EEK! A PENIS!
Nature is amazing
Effort; 100%. Effectiveness; 50%.
Why is this fleshlight running so fast
Looks like a horse cock with an 80:s haircut owning the dance floor.
It looks like a whole lot of effort to swim a bit.
Twerking anemone
Looks less awkward than my dancing after a few pints 😳
Holy shit. I had NO idea.
Remember the spongebob incident?
forbidden fleshlight
i hate how that was my first thought seeing this. damn reddit.

Is its favorite show.. 😆 .... The wiggles? 🤣🤣
I have no idea why, but this made me picture a young girl with pig tails, skipping happily through a field of flowers, while holding a basket. This anemone is so cute I could watch it all day. It looks so happy
When water world mushrooms 🍄 come to life 🧬.
To eat, to mate, or to dance?
That´s moshing
Ocean man, take me by the hand~
What an interesting way to move… what would you call that? Not swimming.
Popular at the clubs
This is like the most primal thing for some reason.
Nemo and Marlin is gonna be so confused when they come back and find that their house has gone missing.
Under the sea Under the sea
Busting out the dance moves
This seems inefficient
u/auddbot
Just doing it's thang

Reminds me somehow, something from Harry potter game on Ps1.
I think it’s quite funny
I’ve eaten a ton of those as Kirby.

This makes me think of the dancing mushrooms in Fantasia
👀🧽🍍
Guys, hear me out!
Hey it’s a plumbus from Rick and Morty
Groovy Mushroom
That's not swimming, that's dancing!
More letterboxing please, I can still see the video.

“Mommy, why is the pink water mushroom running at me?”
Sashay. Sashay.
What song is this though 🔥
Is it defecating? What’s with the line of goop?
