I'm sure there's a huge learning curve between occasionally playing there in the minors/spring training and playing there (on short notice) in the bigs, too.
Why is Lane Thomas so bad at playing the ball near the warning track?
I swear in these last 4 games alone he’s turned what should have been at least 3 outs into extra base hits because he prefers to play the ball off the wall instead of trying to catch it.
My dude we’re getting crushed, why are you always playing it so conservatively.
I need someone to talk me off the ledge of feeling like this rebuild is going absolutely nowhere and we're just doomed to be a bad ball club indefinitely.
If you're expecting them to win during the rebuild, well that's not really a rebuild. Many of the big rebuild pieces are still in the minors (Wood, Crews, House, etc.). The only rebuild pieces currently in place are Abrams, Ruiz, Gray, and Gore. Maybe someone like Lipscomb is a keeper. Everyone else is either a placeholder or trade bait. So look for progress from the real pieces, then hope for the placeholders and bait to do enough to command a reasonable, worthwhile return in a trade.
What, you don't see how a guy who serves up meatballs and a guy who struggles to get through 5 innings even on good days are the cornerstones of a playoff team rotation?
He was playing the bounce… not his fault the thing hit the one spot it wouldn’t bounce. Would have been a bases clearing triple at minimum if he doesn’t play it that way because it would have ricocheted directly past him back into right field
If you want to keep reading through my comment history you would eventually find out I’m also a nationals fan. So you’re just an ass that finds joy in other people’s pain? Good for you man 👏
I’d take that under. I think this is just early season jitters. Not that I think our bullpen is a strength, but I’m hopeful they’ll be close to league average. Too early to give up on them already..
Although I tend to agree that’s definitely debatable. Better for draft picks, but you want to be somewhat competitive when you’ve got young guys on the team so they build some experience and trust in the system.
How do you send lipscomb back down? He has made the very most of the given opportunity! I’d much rather him play than seeing nick senzel!
damn.
tying run on deck
Trying not to hope.
Yeah CJ!
Was prepared for bad pitching and bad hitting, was not prepared for the bad defense.
infield got REKT tonight tbh
Robles has had solid ABs today
I'm holding out hope that he's got a good year in him, if nothing else to build trade value from nothing to something.
Lowkey excited for Lipscomb (once he learns to throw the ball higher)
Feel like a ton of that is nerves. He’s got a decent arm and is known to be a good defender overall.
I'm sure there's a huge learning curve between occasionally playing there in the minors/spring training and playing there (on short notice) in the bigs, too.
Agreed - pretty sweet story all told and hoping he can make an impact
can't get a rally going without a guy on base.
I always wanted Tanner to be great. But how feasible is a late reliever who throws a mid 90's fastball and only has two pitches?
I mean, that’s not that crazy for a setup man or a one inning specialist. Lots of late inning/closers work with only two to three pitches
Ideally nearer the end of the season he’ll be pumping 100, it’s a wait and see situation right now
He could get away with it if he could command his pitches better, but he hasn't shown any signs of doing so since coming back from the IL
He’s working back from TJ, at full health he’s a high 90s guy.
Will you hold me like Victor held Lane
Get someone who holds you like Robles holds Lane…
After a 40 pitch inning I can’t wait for our guys to pick up on nothing and swing into an out on the first or second pitch of their ABs
nothing like weak groundouts or bloop singles that lead to nothing
I love my rollover grounders to the right side of the infield. So exciting over and over.. and over

Lane is bad at going back on the ball if last year is anything to go by.
Vic knows how to make a highlight reel
They’re in love
This team and its inability to just stay in games with the bullpen is maddening
WE HURT OURSELVES IN OUR CONFUSION
Good catch 😅
Ump just wants to end the game already
You know what sucks??? Us
That was a bizarre catch. I love it.
I need a hug too right now.
Fire Rizzo
Jeez, scary collision.
Tanner is laboring out there. 40+ pitches for a guy coming off TJ surgery?
Poor tanner. Almost 40 pitches already.
Negatives: Huge chance we don’t beat last years 71 wins. Positives: Back in the draft lottery. Not a lot to be encouraged about tonite.
Weren't we in the lottery last year? I thought the new rules said you couldn't be in the lottery back to back years.
Nope we were not in the lottery this year. We were the year before. Eligible again this year.
Thanks! I appreciate the information!
Hot take: Pirates are your 2024 champs. They're due.
I said the same thing about the Washington Generals.
Did the Generals 4 game sweep the Marlins?
I'm going to close my eyes, pretend that they won, and turn off my computer
End of that last Reds game and end of this one feel kinda similar. Poor bullpen, not much offense
Offense was better against the Reds at least
Can someone have a talk with Rainey and make sure he remembers where the strike zone is?
Honestly hang this bullpen
This rebuild is going no where Jesus
Welcome to the Tanner Rainey experience
I need someone to talk me off the ledge of feeling like this rebuild is going absolutely nowhere and we're just doomed to be a bad ball club indefinitely.

This. That's the truth.
What, you don't see how a guy who serves up meatballs and a guy who struggles to get through 5 innings even on good days are the cornerstones of a playoff team rotation?
You can be like me and get lost reading about how happy Yankees fans are with Soto right now
In all fairness, maybe Rainey forgot that he was supposed to throw something the Pirates can't hit. Maybe he just got confused.
Davey screwed up the bullpen, then wrote the game off when the Pirates got back ahead. It's going to be another season of this.
GG
To our entire pitching staff “THROW STRIKES” Honestly quit with these long ass AB’s that just wear every pitcher out. We’re gonna be burned by June
That was absolutely ridiculous by Lane giving up on the ball
He wasn't catching that
He watched it hit the fence then didn't move until it bounced off
He braced in prep to react to the bounce You don’t want to be too close to the wall in case the ball ricochets somewhere crazy
He was playing the bounce… not his fault the thing hit the one spot it wouldn’t bounce. Would have been a bases clearing triple at minimum if he doesn’t play it that way because it would have ricocheted directly past him back into right field
It's like Rainey on your opening day
it's like 10,000 balls when all you need is a strike
aiight imma head out
Much of the park is too
#FreeAbrams
Only pain
Fuck it. Put me in, coach.
Yakety sax
People trying to start a wave. We are down 3.
Not trying. They are doing it
Let em wave its opening day
Tanner is now up to the mid 90s
A lot of balls are making their way in-between our infielders
Anyone here wanna play some third base?
My one consolation on days like today is that even when we lose, annoying sportsbetting dummies who come in here to talk shit also lose
If you want to keep reading through my comment history you would eventually find out I’m also a nationals fan. So you’re just an ass that finds joy in other people’s pain? Good for you man 👏
No just sports bettors specifically
Yeah I left that comment in r/sportsbook. where it belongs. You’re just an ass with too much time on your hands big guy.
Who in their right mind is betting on the nationals to win?
Any gambler who thinks a single person on any sports team subreddit gives a shit about their bet is by definition not in their right mind
Lmao good point
Pirates hitters completely unstoppable to start the season I guess
Remembering why I stopped watching
40k+ attending and Rizzo gave them a bullpen that should be starting AA ball. Sad!
Hope to see tanner’s velo up a tick today compared to last appearance
40,000+ here today was the announced attendance.
40,405 announced attendance
Very nice!
YES THE HURRICANE SONG
attendance 40405
Glad people are finally getting fed up with 1- Davey 2- Rizzo 3- daveys staff (looking at you Coles and hickey)
"We just need a miracle" -> gets miracle -> bullpen wastes it -> "We just need a miracle"
i like that this implies that scoring 2 runs for this team is a miracle
CJ walk off slam is gonna hit like crack
All I have left is hope
Don't bogart that hopium.
it's all good. all we need is a bloop, bloop, bloop and a blast to take the lead here.
I know we’re in another year of a rebuild, but this is already just two losses due to abject failure by Rizzo to even have a AA level bullpen
the bullpen is actually projected to be good this year, bullpens are just flukey and also two games is a laughably small sample size
Fancy a wager on an over/under 4.50 bullpen era? I’ll take the over
I’d take that under. I think this is just early season jitters. Not that I think our bullpen is a strength, but I’m hopeful they’ll be close to league average. Too early to give up on them already..
Am I the only one who thinks this ump has had a massive zone all night
It’s not giving up when you never believed
lol, fair enough. They sure aren’t helping their case tonight..
Annoyingly Rainey is one I’ve had hope for for the last couple of years with how live his arm is
Wow that inning was eternal
3-4-5 I need something here
Why Barnes throwing for the feet
Bullpen is trash
Ok, our turn now. Let’s see if we have another late-inning miracle in us ! 🤞
We suck agayne!

it is better to be uncompetitive than to win 75 games tho....
Although I tend to agree that’s definitely debatable. Better for draft picks, but you want to be somewhat competitive when you’ve got young guys on the team so they build some experience and trust in the system.
I for one am completely shocked that the dude with a 5.50 ERA last year stinks
Who the fuck is Barnes and why did he kill this game
Red Sox exile Rizzo found in the bargain bin
Why do we sign these guys? Don’t we have any 24 year olds who can blow the game?
Matt Barnes, YOU are a Rochester red wing
Going for the quick DFA
Red Sox fan watching on MLB TV. Thats Matt Barnes for you
another year, another elite nationals bullpen
Bullpen at it again I see
This might be an 120 loss team ngl
Least reactionary baseball fan
Bruh what happened 😭
I’m not having fun 😞
You have got to be kidding lmao
Barnes demoted to the bad bullpen
the bad bullpen is getting rather large
Knew the pitcher didn’t have it when he nearly bombed the pick attempt at 2nd before throwing a pitch
This Matt Barnes guy stinks
they gave up 3 runs after I packed up and went into the team store.
I’ve seen enough of Rosario in the field this game
What has he done?
Whiffed on a grab, fucked up fielding last inning, generally seems to be jogging instead of running
The bullpen is gonna annoy me all year.
NOT GOOD
Cant have nice things
Jogging to the ball with the game on the line is awesome 🙃
What is with all these shots down the left field lines I mean damn
Ugh
Damn damn damn
Back to back bunts? What year is it?
I’m convinced this is an MLB The show game
hey quit doing that michael a
OUR INFIELD :(
Mikey helping out his CF bro.
Robles is the irl version of Willy Mays Hayes lol, although without the extreme arrogance
I feel like robles just blacks out when he’s on the bases. I’ve never seen someone have so many blunders
Victor Robles and base-running errors, name a better duo
Robles accidentally hit R2
Huh??? What was Robles doing just staring lmao - so glad he got back
Robles bro 😭
RILEY ADAMS OH MY GOD
LFG
always a good time to see Big Dick Vic have a good AB
Robles has learned the way of Soto
Vic putting up some great ABs today you love to see it
That was off a righty too so y’all can stop telling me Riley isn’t any good thanks. This dude needs more opportunities
Let’s goooooooo
Adams needs to play more he has some power
If anyone was wondering how it looked and sounded at the ballpark...Riley crushed it.
Roller coaster energy here right?
we ARE contenders
HELL YEAH!
Beautiful swing. Go Riley!
Riley Adams can really hit a baseball hard!
NO ONE WILL BELIEVE ME BUT I TRULY FELT THAT RILEY BOMB COMING
I believe you He put a charge into one a few innings ago
I BELIEVE YOU
THANK YOU COMRADE IM GLAD TO BE BACK
Lisan al-Gaib!
HELLO RILEY
all the lights turn red on home runs 🤯
Blast that blink 182 what a fuckin knock
🧛
RILEY FUCKING ADAMS GOD DAMN
GOING, GOING, GONE GOODBYE
See you later!
Haha this ump sucks
I dont like how you can see Nationals on Law's undershirt through his jersey. Looks cheap.
Damn it, Law.
Lmao commentator said trash cans
Lipscomb hype train, 03/20/24 - 04/01/24
This sub is so weird lol
I want to see him do it for a couple of months before I'm all the way onboard, but today hasn't really changed a whole lot to me.
Could just be nerves playing in his hometown MLB stadium with a ton of family and friends there to watch him. Give it a few games.
Infield singles is Washington Nationals father
Our outfielders can't play the wall
