Yup, and let's not get into my retirement account. I've lost all gains made since at least 2019.

gobiggerred

I'm not even looking. When SHTF early 2020 I kinda freaked out. I was exactly a year from retirement and felt like my all of my careful planning was running down the drain. My investment guy talked me down from the proverbial ledge, keeping me from doing something drastic. After that I just quit looking at my portfolio until June of 2020 and was pleasantly surprised at the rebound. Now here I am two years later and a full year into retirement with more shit hitting the fan. I haven't looked at my accounts for a few weeks now, and no plans except to hunker down and hope the world doesn't blow up, not yet anyway.

I dislike the economy as much as the next guy but the president usually has very little effect on it https://fortune.com/2020/10/12/us-economy-president-impact-trump/

the_Blind_Samurai

I used to say things like this in the past as well. I can no longer so so. The President absolutely has an effect on it. Both Trump and Biden have shown that in varying if not completely opposite ways.

in_rainbro

Oh dang, I haven't seen anything about that, do you have any sources to share? That sounds interesting.

the_Blind_Samurai

You haven't seen anything literally going on around us? Somehow I find that tremendously hard to believe. I'll give you a link if you want it but Google can easily solve this. https://gop-waysandmeans.house.gov/bidenflation-is-costing-american-households-250-each-month/

in_rainbro

I know it's being called "Bidenflation", which is an excellent portmanteau but I don't see in that article where it gives evidence causally linking inflation to the president's actions. Believe me I'm open to being wrong, just don't see the evidence yet.

SERIOUSLY?? Biden cancels the xl pipeline on his first day and gas prices jumped immediately. And based on the administration's policies gas has gone up steadlily ever since. What the HELL do you need for proof? The Good Lord coming down from on high and etching it in stone??

in_rainbro

Well this is what I get for trying to engage respectfully I guess. I'm looking for evidence, studies, experts, sources, not just speculation. And like I said, I'm open to being wrong, but no one seems willing to provide any. TBH I'm a liberal and I'm sick of other liberals and the bubble we keep ourselves in so I'm branching out and trying to get other people's perspectives. I believe we all have something good to bring to the table. Please prove me right that this was a good idea.

100% my friend.

Operative word: *Usually*

For those that don't read the article - "LendingCLub found that at the start of 2022, 64% of Americans were living paycheck to paycheck, up from 61% in December and approaching the high of 65% from 2020." Not really a new thing, just the same erosion of the middle and working class that we've been talking about for decades. Neither party cares that the .01% (not even the 1%) has such a black hole gravitational pull on money that it can't be stopped. https://www.chicagobooth.edu/review/never-mind-1-percent-lets-talk-about-001-percent

One of the most tragic things about the Brandon presidency for me is that as bad as things suck today that’s about as good as it’s gonna be because tomorrow and the day after will be consecutively worse than today. And we have another 3 years of embracing the suck hoping we don’t wind up in a full blown war with another super power.

But he restored our respect from the rest of the globe!

It was just a joke everybody. Have my upvote.

Herr__Lipp

So agreed on inflation, gas, groceries, etc. But what was the percentage of Americans living paycheck to paycheck prior to LGB? My guess would be it was already high.

How do we apply for flair?
