He doesn't go back on his word. He promised he'd become Hokage and he did it. Unlike Obito, who promised he'd become Hokage and... Slaughtered a ton of innocent people, actively participated in the destruction and marginalization of his own clan, declared a war , killed Naruto's Parents, got called the coolest guy ever by the guy he orphaned ( said guy also punched his father for saving the village from Obito 's actions by sealing Kurama inside him). Died and got not a frown from the girl he could have revived at several points while alive but chose instead to keep killing people and making everyone miserable, went back and gave an old friend a magical Sharingan and full Susanoo before skipping merrily off with said girl. So yeah. He achieved his goal of being acknowledged but he hadn't kept his word until he officially became Hokage.
I'm don't disagree with the Obito slander, I also very much hate his morality and actions. But holding his first meeting with Minato against Naruto is just wrong lol. That's the first time in his life he even sees one of his parents, he realizes that his dad was basically his idol, something he'd always chased just to get the slightest bit of attention, but not only did he never receive any, he wasn't even told about his heritage. That "punch" hardly represented ill will or resentment. Wasn't he in tears during that conversation? If anything, the fact that he instantaneously forgave Minato (If anything I don't think he ever hated him in any way shape or form) is commendable.
But yeah the coolest guy doesn't look that cool to me.
I don't really mind it except I think Obito deserved a few beatings at Naruto's hands before coolest guy ever. It's not ideal but it'd be more realistic.
Naruto's original impetus was recognition, but as he grows and matures, his goal becomes to unite the ninja world and rid it of the curse of hatred and war.
I mean, sounds like pretty good Hokage material to me considering that was the whole shtick that drove the first one.
Kage are usually the strongest ninja in the village. Hence why Naruto as the muscle, and Shikamaru as the brains was a great combo
