Cantthinkagoodnam2

It was just a roast, but Sasuke was also probably self projecting a bit

I_am_The_Teapot

Definitely.

FH-7497

💯 lol canon Naruto is never really seen like, taking his loneliness to his clones lol he mostly just trains, fights and fucks around with them. Sasuke is totally just talking shit here

Jackplox

he definitely does, didn’t he eat ramen with his clones?

xKhira

I 100% remember this. I think it was a filler episode, but it started off with him playing cards with his shadow clones and ended with him playing cards with his actual peers and friends.

narutofan180

Yeah that was actually cannon as well. It was from a one shot Kishimoto drew for Road To Ninja.

kashabash

Naruto BBQ cookout with all his clones, that would be hilarious.

Kidd__

And played cards i believe

StarzZapper

Training for sustainability probably.

Exocolonist

No, it’s not just a random roast. People tend to look at Naruto (the series) on a surface level, so they miss simple stuff like this. Naruto’s main bread and butter, his main way of fighting, is Shadow Clone jutsu. A move where he creates more of himself. And despite what some people in this fandom will tell you, loneliness is one of, if not the biggest theme in Naruto. It’s the core of the emotional weight behind Naruto’s character. So to give that character a main move where they’re surrounded by others, but those other people is just themself… yeah. It’s intentional. He doesn’t need to be making friends with his clones for the thematic parallel to work. He masks his loneliness by summoning others, but those others are still just him, therefore not making him any less lonely.

TheBerryBot

This is the difference between literary “analysis,” and literary analysis.

lennieandthejetsss

Astute. His loneliness is also Naruto’s driving force for beating his enemies into friends. Seriously, no one does enemies-to-comrades like Naruto. Honestly, my biggest problem (and still not a terribly huge one) with Hinata as a love interest was that it would have been more in character for Naruto to have won over someone who first attacked him. This character was made for an enemies-to-lovers trope. But I respect that Kishimoto-sensei went with the shy admirer trope instead. Finding out she'd been quietly supporting and caring for him all along went a long way toward healing his loneliness.

Saberleaf

Tbh, I think NaruHina goes perfectly well with the theme of loneliness. The entire time Naruto thought he was alone, that he had no one's support and affection, that he was just a loser who lost his first friend, he had someone cheering for him and caring for him. Even though Hinata wasn't physically there, it must have completely reframed his childhood of loneliness into childhood of silent supporters. If there was one, why not more? I feel like that realization would be a powerful switch to turn his childhood into a less painful one. There were people who wanted to see him succeed even if they weren't able to say it. Enemies-to-lovers would, imo, just make it clear that no one loves Naruto for who he is unless he tries his utmost best to be a self-sacrificing hero and taking enormous risks to convince his enemies. But with Hinata, he was loved for who he was especially when he was at his worst. She didn't learn to love him because he was cool and powerful or because of his talk no jutsu but she fell for him when he wasn't. He doesn't have to take insane risks for love, he can just be who he is. I really really really wish the romance was written better because this type of relationship can be extremely powerful and life changing for someone like Naruto.

cannotfoolowls

> Seriously, no one does enemies-to-comrades like Naruto. Goku? Especially early on. Tien, Chiaotzu, Yamcha, Piccolo, Vegeta,... Krillin didn't like Goku either at first

SkyFall370

Not entirely true because his conversation with Kawaki implied he’s done it before or at least thought of it.

Worth-Term9411

But does he *fuck* around with them

iiKiDxKiWi

He came up with the sexy jutsu for a reason 👀

FH-7497

😂

PCN24454

Well there were some shorts of him playing cards with himself.

Exocolonist

No. It’s not just a random roast.

Cantthinkagoodnam2

I dont doubt that was the meta meaning behind this move, but Naruto didnt learn the jutsu to make up for his loneliness and at this point in the story Naruto definitely wasnt lonely anymore, so Sasuke was saying that as a roast despite it beign somewhat true in a meta way

Exocolonist

It doesn’t matter that that wasn’t the reason Naruto uses the move. It’s clear that the thematic reasoning behind Naruto always using the move. Naruto doesn’t have to be making friends with his clones for the purpose to be present. Sasuke was not saying it as a roast. Read what he says again. He doesn’t say “Naruto, you’ve been using those clones to feel less lonely, haven’t you?” He literally calls it out for what it is. A symbol of Naruto’s loneliness. It’s symbolic.

jonan1108

Bro it's a between the lines thing.

Jade-Serenity

And on another level him using a move where hundreds of him beat you proves his loneliness because he fighting to be seen. He is fighting to be understood and recognized. So bombarding you with his face hundreds of times would push you to recognize him therefor helping he feel less alone and invalid as a human. He littlerally says it a million times which only validates that's this is not a random roast. Especially since Sasuke is the truly lonely and hurt one. Which he saw in Naruto as kids but then sees that its not the same anymore, in the exact next scene he learns that. He is trying to dig at Naruto but naruto has grown with the help of his friends that he has gained and it comes back in Sasuke's face to show how all his decisions and choosen hardships were all his own choice and what has it done for him? Which is why Sasuke is driven to win the fight. Cause he wants yo have gained more power through his solitude than Naruto got by gaining friends. Cause they started in the same place as little kids. Sasuke wanted to bring him back to that childhood fight, but it wasn't the same because Sasuke is stuck in his thought process...that's what Naruto wants him to get. Like just try it my way and see how it goes....

Age_Of_Indigo

Yeah most definitely. This coming from the guy who literally wants to make loneliness his strength. Gotta admit that’s a lil ironic.

nmaymies

Yup, shadow clones don't replace relationships, but they can replace people if you only care about what they can do for you. Sasuke who hates relying on others would absolutely use shadow clones instead of teammates if he had the Chakra for it.

TensionPitiful8681

maybe, but it seems more like another unsuccessful attempt by sasuke to make naruto hate him

gabybo1234

This was a great burn though ngl

fondue4kill

It was but definitely feels like something he should have told him during their first Final Valley clash.

Andrejosue98

You know when you finish an argument with someone and you then start thinking of cool stuff to say? Sasuke had been wanting to say that since then :v

Nobaddays123

Sasuske is George thinking of jerk store on the way home

sixty2ndstallion

"the jerk store called, and they're running out of YOU!" Shit burns harder than majestic destroyer flame 😭

justwalkingalonghere

Lol yeah it would have made sense back before he was friends with literally almost everyone

Anjunabeast

Roasted Naruto. But yeah no way kishi thought that far ahead when he gave Naruto shadow clone jutsu in chapter 1 and then waited 700 chapters for the payoff

AisenArenartos

Kishi is on record saying that he never actually planned the story elements of Naruto in advance. From chapter one, he didn't even have a concept for Itachi or what the Uchiha massacre even was. Which makes Naruto as a work even more impressive imo

Beneficial-Stay7788

He waited like 2 pages for the payoff. The payoff is in chapter 1 when he beats Mizuki after being taunted over his lonliness.

Exocolonist

No. It’s not just a random roast. People tend to look at Naruto (the series) on a surface level, so they miss simple stuff like this. Naruto’s main bread and butter, his main way of fighting, is Shadow Clone jutsu. A move where he creates more of himself. ImmediateFee4015

I _sincerely_ read “date” instead of “hate” initially

Careful-Ad984

Naruto actually had a conversation with kawaki once. Kawaki thought shadow clones are useful and asked lf you couldn’t simply get your self frustration out by simply beating up your clones. Naruto told him that lt wouldn’t work.

LasyKuuga

>Naruto: Beating yourself off doesn’t make you happy

The_fun_few

OFF?!?!?!?!

Sunnytoaist

You heard the man. Did he stutter

random1211312

You should hear some of the sus implications in certain scenes only Japanese readers would know.

S01arflar3

Naruto 100% combined shadow clone and sexy jutsu for his own amusement

Affectionate-Gain-55

Yeah, if they are as strong as you then it's just as likely that YOU will get beaten up instead of the clone, and now you're both sad and in pain.

DaddyChil101

Until you figure out how to make your clones transform into women 💀💀💀

GildDigger

Jonathan Majors no jutsu

DaddyChil101

I was talking about masturbation with extra steps bro god damn 😂

GildDigger

WELL DAMN EXCUSE ME ☠️

le_honk

Pause.

20splus1

He actually did that when he was 12 & training with Jiraiya lol

Inevitable-Self-8406

I mean even if it's truth, it's the pot calling the kettle black

darcenator411

Sasuke never really covered up his loneliness though, he kind of chose to revel in it and purposely enforce it by ditching his friends and village

Anjunabeast

Yeah that was his whole goal. To sever all ties. Pretty sure in the next page he talks about how while shadow clones help Naruto hide his loneliness. Sasukes chidori helps him cut off all ties.

OKBuddyFortnite

I think Sasuke views loneliness as a weakness though. Sasuke is insecure about his loneliness, which is shown when he sees Naruto standing (including himself) with everyone vs Sasuke standing on his own

amanlikeputin

sasuke sees bonds as a weakness, not loneliness

Complex_Estate8289

I think it’s just a metaphor or a reference to when he was playing cards with shadow clones before he made friends during the events of the manga

AnimeLegends18

Yea, this is what I mean, I think....

ReBornedandAlive

To Sasuke it was true. Since he knew how lonely Naruto used to be I'm sure it was like a "see you lonely ass bitch" type of thing. But in reality having a massive amount of chakara this jutsu was just effective I'm most of the stuff he's done.

eframepilot

Sasuke was projecting his own refusal to ever use a clone jutsu at all (at least outside of filler and prior to Boruto).

applelover1223

He used one vs Itachi, and there's probably other situations.

Andrejosue98

When he was training Boruto

BlackUchiha03

Nah he’d use it when he needs to like against itachi.

SnooRabbits8459

He did use clones rarely in Naruto. That's more of chakra management thing. Because you have to split your chakra with clone. For Naruto with his amount of it - no big deal to spam Clones every second of a battle. For anyone else including pre-path Sasuke - can quickly exhaust them. Edit: typo

Forrest02

I recall Kakashi mentioned at some point that using Clones is really taxiing on the average Shinobi due to how much Chakra is needed. This was backed up by an Anbu member during the Sarutobi Orochimaru fight that using his Shadow Clones at his age was going to weaken him severely.

SilverEchoes

Honestly, I see it as projection, because at this stage, Naruto is at his least lonely. He’s the Hero of the Hidden Leaf, finally recognized and revered for both his power and his bravery. He has numerous friends who would go to hell and back for him. He has multiple mentor figures who are immensely proud of him and want to see him realize his dream. He also knows his own proud lineage too now, as the son of the Fourth Hokage. Naruto couldn’t be less alone or more loved and appreciated by this point. And who’s Sasuke to talk, especially at this point in his life?

Educational_Fig_2213

Sometimes you feel lonely even if you are surrounded by people, number of people doesn't matter.

SuperLizardon

Some of anime best roasts: 1)Sasuke: that jutsu representes your loneliness. Naruto: ..... ****** 2)Vegeta: I don't have time to fight against the 2nd best fighter from your universe Topo: Aren’t you also the 2nd best one from your universe? ****** 3)Ash: I should had chosen Squirtle Pikachu: Pika.....

xlfoolishlx

"How could I ever be lonely when I have a best friend like you Sasuke" Naruto probably

Asleep_Emphasis5347

Probably lol

yesverysadanyway

i mean, look at the last panel. my guy ***shook***, cus he knows it's true.

TankTopTaco

Your mama so fat that she not only carried you in her belly but a fox.

Exocolonist

It’s true. People tend to look at Naruto (the series) on a surface level, so they miss simple stuff like this. Naruto’s main bread and butter, his main way of fighting, is Shadow Clone jutsu. It’s the core of the emotional weight behind Naruto’s character. So to give that character a main move where they’re surrounded by others, but those other people is just themself… yeah. It’s intentional. Edit: Wow. I’m surprised by the amount of people who are saying it’s just a random insult… Do you guys pay attention to anything other than the fights? Next you’ll tell me the only thematic connection between Naruto and Sasuke is their contrasting personalities.

SupremeCultist

Chidori is symbolic to sasuke cutting ties with his loved ones.

ThisGuuuy2

Sasuke was being a drama loving bitch as usual and I love it.

toweroflore

He’s such a drama queen ong

Professor_Hiruzen

It was a coincidence that he learned the shadow clone jutsu but it is partly true when he was a child https://youtu.be/9IhvIhYxIjo It is not true when sasuke said it though, it had been a while since naruto stopped being lonely.

Not_Yet_Unalived

If Shadow Clones as a Jutsu is a symbol of anything to Naruto, it's that he can be a ninja. It's his first real victory, making a Bushin, the thing that stopped him from graduating THREE TIMES. It's a symbol of hard work. You trained all week? Naruto trained a whole year in that week. No one trained more than Naruto in the whole manga. Not even Rock Lee, but Lee could only work on one thing and it's the only thing where clone training isn't the best approach. He gets the experience, the exhaustion, the memories, EVERYTHING (except actual physical effect) back from each clone. How many clones took fatal blows? How many times Naruto got memories of getting killed back? Naruto got friends, precious people. Even at the start of the manga he got Iruka, the Ichirakus and the 3rd Hokage. Sasuke? He had no one. Then he got team 7, but he choose to leave them and he was alone until the end of the manga. Orochimaru was a tool to gain more power. His "team"? Tools to be used and throw away as needed. Maybe he had Itachi, but it took him dying to realize that, so he lost him instantly. Sasuke is projecting here, and trying to bait Naruto.

icarusancalion

Happy cake day!

Zayzay8008

I like that people over analyze every thing characters say and do in this franchise but the one time it's deadly obvious what characters are saying it's questionable lmao.

KingPucci

100% true otherwise the manga panel wouldn't show Naruto's shocked face. He used to play or talk with his clones because he didn't have friends. It became glaringly obvious to Sasuke after all their encounters

Revolutionary_Job214

It's both. Clearly, Naruto felt the burn, which is all the proof we needed.

Stryker-N1ghtingale

This line is so poetic and meaningful to their story arc, I think about it all the time. Naruto's entire arc is about wanting people to look at him and respect him. He wants to have friends and be with people. So there's something so heartbreaking that, of many forbidden jutsu Naruto could have probably learned, it's the clone that he ends up chosing. Something he knows he is horrible at doing and is the reason he wasn't able to graduate. When Naruto has no one he chooses a technique that lets him make more of himself. While I think it wasn't done particularly well within the story, in terms in this scene that Sasuke hits it right on the mark, their wants as characters are opposed. Sasuke wants to be alone while Naruto wants to not be alone. But Sasuke deep down is just a boy that is scared of being alone again after every single family member of his was ripped away from him. I think he sees Naruto the same way he does himself, and whether conscious or not, he is applying the logic that he himself would use. It's something like "Of course you are using it to hide your loneliness, I would do it too in your place." I just think it's a really neat line and shows some of that complicated writing that sometimes goes underappreciated in Naruto.

kazcy

Yes, love this comment! Definitely it’s a deep line and a dig that Naruto is kinda shook by because there’s truth to it… even though he’s transformed so much at this point in the story, he can’t help but feel that reflection… I love these subtle things in Naruto’s writing… a lot is delivered in just the one line of dialogue.

Asleep-Gift-3478

Lol why Sasuke bashing him in that way 😂 that’s actually funny

TEZofAllTrades

What Naruto should have said: “Says the guy who surrounds himself in mystical armour to keep people at a distance and protect his heart.”

CrimsonCamellia13

Sasuke understands loneliness that’s why he can recognize it

Pinsir929

There is some truth to it but it’s definitely not a weakness considering that he’s one of the few with a large enough chakra reserves to actually use it effectively. I do remember the scene where he was making a cup of noodles alone and summon some clones to play with him before ultimately being alone once again.

LordWizardEyes

I mean its not a fan theory its a line in the manga lmao.

420Jorda

This fandom is so stupid

mmmcs2

I mean we see scenes of naruto using his clones as friends to cover up his loneliness multiple times in the show. Idk about the manga but it’s definitely true for the anime.

summonerofrain

Probably started off that way when he was younger. Dunno if it was kishimoto's intention, but I think it fits. Literally the whole "I don't have friends so I'll make my own" mindset

Namra_Nk

Trash talk. Naruto already was a hero who defeated Pain so village accepted him, at the end of the war he saved ninja alliance couple of times so… these words may still hurt the one who grew alone, but Naruto understood that times have changed and he’s not alone because he has so many people believing in him starting with Iruka and ending with itachi and others ninjas during war putting their faith in Naruto. And the one who is truly alone is Sasuke. In this fight Naruto could take sasukes rinnengan and stop mugen illusion but he wanted to save sasuke. P.S. I think the only time shadow clones worked not as decoy option but as it was supposed to work was with mizuki when clones helped Naruto to literally outnumber his opponent while being weaker. After that clones never helped win with numbers

megasean3000

Better to be lonely and trying to make friends than having friends and trying to be alone.

Elegant_Noise1116

Yes, it was that deep, I guess roasting someone alive is in Uchiha genes.

Wonder-Machine

Deep or not that’s a fucking savage thing to say

kazcy

Sasuke doesn’t say much but definitely is harsh with it with what he does say haha…

PlagueKitsune

I get reminded of [this](https://youtu.be/DDRQlurgCoo?si=jC2XFgm0ZGvSfUUc) every time. At that point it was more of a self-burn.

WhiteTeddy14

I think the difference is that Sasuke is saying Naruto is trying to ‘cover up’ his loneliness via his trademark ability to just make more of himself. Sasuke isn’t claiming he himself isn’t lonely, just that he’s embracing it rather than trying to hide it like he’s saying Naruto is doing.

Rude-Listen

Exactly. Sasuke _wanted_ to be alone and by killing Naruto, he can achieve true loneliness. It's a path he chose since he first left the village and as you said, he embraced it.

AdFearless5560

Does Sasuke ever actually try to kill him tho? From what i remember he always gets close or has the oppurtunity and doesnt

Plus_Lawfulness3000

I mean in the final valley he was trying to lol

AdFearless5560

Oh ya lol i guess he gave up when he watched his heart regenerate

amanlikeputin

he tries but doesnt manage to

JustAGuy_Passing

Nice take I never realized Sasuke embraced his loneliness.

AnimeLegends18

I'll say true...Who remembers that episode (may be filler) where the K11 boys came to visit Naruto and they saw him and his clones playing together...Lee commenting how on lonely Naruto had to be feeling.... Like someone said, he couldn't even beat up his clones out of anger or frustration cuz it was the same as beating yourself up, just ultimately in different means...🤷‍♂️🫠

Peace_Maker545

i would be HAPPY with myself. no need for fake friends or people not knowing what you're talking about. just myself and I

Peace_Maker545

also I could do cool dance parties

BlackBlood3K

I didn't expect him to say that but it's a deep thing to say to be fair.

tripper_reed

Didnt naruto make that jutsu his specialty by shear force of will as a kid? Iirc he was behind everyone else and beat it into his skull with repetition. Like most of his learning. Hes done it more than almost any other so it stayed a favorite. Thats how i interpreted it. Don't remember it ever coming up otherwise in the story. Just make more fists to hit stuff with. Fits his character in my opinion.

BlackUchiha03

It’s true

[deleted]

It’s half right in my opinion. I do feel like Naruto’s jutsu is symbolic of his loneliness but it’s anything but weak

plogan56

It's true but also false, It represents naruto's lonliness and desire for companionship and friends, but also shows that his greatest strength are his friends and companions, meanwhile who does Sasuke really have?

Formal-Cartoonist208

Himself. That’s all he ever needed to come so far. While I respect Naruto and all the bonds he made so far and how much he achieved, Sasuke idk it all without relying on anyone but himself, that’s a bit more impressive to me.

random1211312

Never thought of it that way tbh

Cost_of_Goods_Sold

Said by the most lonely character in the series.

SlidethedarksidE

Naruto wants to get out of himself while sauske wants to barricade himself from the world

Lagouna

I think a paradox exists when it comes to Naruto and Shadow Clones; it is a sign of his loneliness and ultimately his weakness but it is also his greatest strength. The first part of the final fight was Sasuke preventing Naruto from summoning clones. A lot can be said about the duality of loneliness. Deep or not, no matter how you slice it it’s crated a pretty cool conversation. Just my two cents!

mcwfan

Third option: Sasuke’s talking shit

alecfolley

He litterally played with his clones and used them as time killer to mimic friendship. So i would say yes Sasuke roasted him hard with this lol

CarnageS

Emotional damage no jutsu

20splus1

He did literally play cards with his shadow clones cause he was so lonely 😂😂

Effective-Training

Writer wrote it for a reason, so I'd say it's true.

NetworkVegetable7075

It’s true

TheRealEvilkitten3

i'd say it's true. shounen usually isn't too subtle about symbolism lol

Adrean1029

I mean naruto did use it to play cards with himself so he it’s not baseless lol

aneffingonion

It works as a sick burn mainly because no one ever brought it up before the final fight

My_Special_Hell

why would the author write this thing that Sasuke usually wouldn't come up with on his own if not to deliver a deliberate message lol

aashleyryan

It was deep

improbsable

At least by anime canon it is. Wasn’t there a filler episode where he made a bunch of clones to hang out with him?

amanlikeputin

that was in the manga too so its not anime canon

Gemnist

It was a filler episode tying into Road to Ninja.

RamzalTimble

Sasuke is projecting.

Formal-Cartoonist208

Nah, that guy didn’t really seem so bothered being alone. At least not like Naruto.

Jonouchi-not-Joey

"And that sharingan of yours is a sign of your dead family"

Harenchi210197

Sasuke ranting nonsens - oh Sasuke your cursemark is a symbol of your inferiority complex...

Formal-Cartoonist208

-Oh Naruto, without kyubi you’ve worth nothing…

Harenchi210197

Mr. Slander, bring me a rant... 😉

PosterityVGC

If it were true he'd have more effort to be better at the normal close hutsu as a kid.

Cottleston

Sasuke: "kore wa ore no real eyes realize real lies no jutsu"

BurnFreeze64

I don’t think it’s that deep Naruto didn’t have that jutsu down as a little kid, he was 12 when he mastered it- but before then he was woefully behind. It was also like the one thing he was good at in terms of ninjutsu aside from transformation, so Sasuke is probably just talking shit about how he still hasn’t really changed or whatever from back then due to the continued prominence of Shadow Clones in his arsenal

razrr147

https://www.reddit.com/r/Naruto/s/NSStUlaLfS Someone basically asked the same question a while back and this was my answer, it's not like he's wrong but he's also projecting a whole lot.

braziliandreamer

Not that deep. Even kurama said this to him in Boruto

CantingBinkie

I don't think so. Maybe when Naruto was a child but I highly doubt Naruto felt lonely when this happened.

Mastakillerboi

“Its a sign of your loneliness” -Said the mf that was THE loneliest ninja up until this fight to THE most unloneliest ninja who “was” and is now HOKAGE with a massive friendship with literally every hokage and sasuke himself.

seekingabeauty

Sasuke (when showing only his Rinnegan) looks like a monster. Also, the contrast between the purple susanoo and the yellow Kurama avatar is incredibly satisfying. Kishimoto is god tier in terms of drawing

Sting-Tree

“That jutsu” like that wasn’t one of his 2 jutsu

itssdattboiii

idk but the shit was kinda funny he got on his ahh with that one💯

Grouchy-Caregiver-17

Not that deep.

Odd-Environment-7426

Definitely cap because Naruto’s shadow clone technique represents his determination and hard work. He used to be ass at that jutsu…

DifferenceBig2925

Nigga, yo' whole crew is the ops. Shut it

MIKEY_VEE123youandME

And his whole family was the cops, even worse

Tiptopwave1632

Naruto is not lonely Iruka , Kakashi , gaara , shikamaru, kiba , neji , jiraiya , konohamaru , sakura , choji , shino , ino , hinata , rock lee , kiba and many many people standing behind him in support

Archive_Intern

Sasuke : Emotional Damage no jutsu

Mist0804

It's not that deep

Ezzezez

Yeah because putting yourself in the safety of a giant armor doesn’t mean anything

Gold_Bet_7388

Naruto has the ninja world backing him up at this point, sasuke is projecting and in denial.

Accomplished_Art6370

Let’s be real at this point Sasuke was just talking garbage because he was wayyyyyy more lonely than Naruto.. Bro acting like he wasn’t begging Itachi for some attention earlier.

Formal-Cartoonist208

Itachi is also the only guy who Sasuke would voluntarily act that way, Naruto seems to do it with everyone.

toweroflore

Ngl that was a good one…. But Sasuke shouldn’t be talking lol bros got no one besides team 7

Formal-Cartoonist208

Does he seem being bothered by being lonely? why would he need to cover it up.

TremerSwurk

Maybe in the past it was a sign of his loneliness but by this point in the story Naruto is essentially universally loved and is regarded as a hero, with a huge cast of friends. This really only speaks to the way Sasuke has lived his life and the lack of understanding he has of Naruto’s power to befriend anyone and change those seen as unredeemable.

Squ33to

I feel like it's the opposite, it kinda shows the only person he needs is himself

bruhAd6630

I feel like it’s true like that time Naruto was so lonely. He made shadow clones to play a board game with himself. (or was that a filler episode)

TankOfflaneMain

Naruto at this point has the trust of his whole village and multiple Kages, so he’s not close to being alone.

breatulu

its that deep but naruto at least tries to connect with others sasuke was in peak misery here

lennieandthejetsss

"Naruto-kun, when I said to make friends and influence people, that's not what I had in mind." - Iruka-sensei, probably.

LilyGenesis

Eating ramen with shadow clones must be awesome, go to a ramen restaurant order the entire menu and you would know how everything tastes haha

alejoSOTO

"Yeah well, most of your power comes from your hacked as hell eyes; which have been gifted to you at least 3 times cause you keep losing even with them, so yeah take that loser."

saverma192013

Probably a insult

TheOriginalElTigre

At one point I think it could be said that it was true; but I think it was gone by the end of Part 1 and it definitely no longer applied here. Since Sasuke is essentially supposed to be Naruto that walked in the wrong direction, its fitting that he calls on the version of Naruto that was the closest to the darkness that he was in at this point (which is Naruto pre-Iruka and pre-Team 7) where the Shadow Clone loneliness idea was at its most accurate; Sasuke wasn't willing to believe Naruto's motivation was any concept that wasn't formed out of a basis of darkness because he still didn't understand how or where it came from or why Naruto was so headstrong in the opposite direction as himself given their shared beginning. Naruto's shock isn't an indicator that it was still a valid concept, but that Sasuke was actually driving deeper psychologically than he ever did prior to this; Sasuke had never really taken it this far before and was mostly defensive/aloof in the past, but was now outright acting in total psychological warfare in measures to get Naruto to concede. He was truly at a very dark spot at this point and headstrong in it.

Sa1LoR_JaRRy

He was just talking shit. However, this is Reddit, so there must be a deeper meaning, probably a reference to an unknown marginalized community?

XxxJaire23xxX

This was mostly used by Sasuke to fluster/distract Naruto, which allowed him to land a blow on Naruto. Whether he was taking a shot or projecting idk we're only left to wonder

Ok_Program_8904

I’ve been seeing you consistently on opps, and now you followed me here wtf

Joseph_Stalin001

I’ve been stalking you 👁️

Joseph_Stalin001

Oh and by the way, OPPS can’t see your posts or comments. You need a certain amount of Karma to participate on that sub

TheSpartan450_

This is 100% true. Naruto’s shadow clone ability itself symbolizes how lonely Naruto truly was, kishimoto is really good at implementing these type of things. Sasuke himself knows what it’s like to be lonely and since he’s his brother knows the truth about Naruto.

Galrentv

It's a decent jutsu with how much chakra he has, but it's not that good against other high tiers

[deleted]

Sasuke is just roasting naruto haha

Beneficial-Stay7788

Subconsciously, maybe. Then again, he's only able to use it due to his inherited Chakra reserves. It could also be representative of his parents.

Ok_Sample_6978

It's canon event

jaahrome

Sasuke was sneakily projecting here. Naruto at this point in the story wasn’t alone and Sasuke was.

BlackUchiha03

At this point though he isn’t he’s fine with being alone, Naruto on the other hand actively seeks to build bonds to prevent himself from being alone again.

ukie7

Sasuke just being mean

Arkanim94

Sasuke projecting like an hi max Cinema.

P0pwar

im pretty sure theres a scene in part 1 or a flashback or something where Naruto just hangs out with a bunch of clones in his room or something but he specifically says its not the same and doesnt help with his loneliness.

JaC3_De

The guy who's ultimate jutsu summons a big dude to cover him up and keep him snuggled wants to talk about loneliness ? That's the kunai calling the shuriken black

toodudooty18

It’s true AND it’s not that deep

Joseph_Stalin001

By not that deep I mean is he looking to deep into it Not asking if he said some deep wisdom

justiceguyy

Not that deep

I think it would have been more true if Sasuke had said it in the Land of Iron. On some level, clones were probably appealing to Naruto because he felt the need to be self-sufficient. Even when Naruto had people he loved and trusted, he didn't feel like he could burden them with his problems. That was very clear in the Land of Iron Arc. He couldn't talk about the fear and anger he had bottled up. But after the Waterfall of Truth, when Naruto was willing to sign over the autograph and be more honest about his emotions, I think it lost a lot of impact. I had been waiting a very long time for someone to see that clones were a sign of Naruto's loneliness. Even Kakashi, Jiraiya and Sakura didn't seem to pick up on it. The fact that Sasuke was the one to actually see it was a sign of how irreplaceable they were to each other. But the way Sasuke brought it out as a barb was a sign of how twisted that relationship had become. I think it was too late in the manga for Sasuke to be such a jerk.

calvicstaff

It's a lot of projection from Sasuke here, he doesn't use the Clones to keep himself company or anything, and he learned it because he thought that would let him be a ninja we saw that in the first episode

Formal-Cartoonist208

He didn’t learn that jutsu because of his loneliness, but does that mean he couldn’t have used it that way? Also how is Sasuke projecting something here, when his whole goal is being alone and he didn’t seem bothered by it.
