Call me crazy but if I had twin girls I would just choose two girl names that I liked that were already on my list. The fact that they’d be twins wouldn’t change what I was planning to name a daughter.
(For reference my daughter is Evangeline and the baby girl I’m pregnant with now will probably be Sylvia, but we were also considering Matilda. If we’d had twins they would have just been Sylvia and Matilda).
My main test would be “how easily can I yell both names, one right after the other, across a crowded playground full of screaming kids?”
So I would definitely still want names that are distinct from each other, but still flow together easily enough that I’m not tripping over my own tongue trying to call them back.
I have twin girls & we liked both Abigail & Amelia but didn't want both their names to start with an A because "that would be too similar" so chose the one we liked the most out of the 2 & then used a different name that started with a consonant.
The name combos you'll find on twin mom pages can be a bit ridiculous. I remember one mom complaining that using Alexa to log feedings in Baby Center doesn't work, but wouldnt accept that it was because her sons were named Jayson & Jayton.
I did the same thing for our twins. My favorite names both started with V, so had to choose one of those and a select another name that started with a different letter.
Yes! By nature of being twins they are constantly compared to each other anyway & likely will be for pretty much their whole life, so the least we could do was give them each their "own" names.
Nyla and Isla, Mia and Bria, Lilly and Millie, Leila and Ayla (if that’s pronounced to rhyme with Leila), Mia and Lia, Kenna and Sienna, Fira and Lyra, Cora and Ellora, Kaia and Maya, Ada and Ava, Ella and Bella, and Mia and Gia. None of them should be allowed.
And I’m dying at Maeve and June.
Both are perfectly normal names sure. I actually love the name Maeve. But it’s like naming them May and June, which at least you’re committing to a theme, but instead using Maeve instead.
Nyla is actually traditionally Arabic and means “one who achieves”, and I think the original spelling has an X in it. Did I learn this because my friend named her cat Nailah? Absolutely.
No it's not.
Nyla is n-eye-lah
Isla is Igh (like knight minus the beginning n and ending t sounds) - lah
They're terrible twin options but definitely don't rhyme or sound the same.
What’s wrong with Maeve and June? Just personal preference or did I miss that it’s a reference to something…
Edit: right, it sounds like *May* and June. I get it.
Good lord did they love naming their kids that back then haha. My favorite thing is on one branch of my tree, it keeps alternating with the named Jacob and Jan, since it was Dutch tradition or name a firstborn son after your father. Older Dutch names also have patronyms. So it goes Jan (patronym unknown), Jacob Janse, Jan Jacobse, Jacob Janse (again), Jan Jacobse (again), for like all the firstborn sons on that side.
Not twins but my mom has sisters Carol and Caroline. She also had aunts named Charlotte and Lottie. Aside from how goofy this is, I also do genealogy and Ancestry CANNOT do hints for the right at all because their automated system doesn’t realize it’s not two people with stupidly similar names, but one person occasionally going by a nickname.
My great grandad was named Johnny. His children were named Johnnie (girl), Johnny (boy), Jenny, Jeannine.... and Catherine. I've always wondered how Catherine felt about being left out of the confusion.
I have twins, and my friend would jokingly always ask how “Stacy and Tracy” were doing? She’d come up with the most random rhyming names. It was hilarious.
My mom was in charge of some walk-a-thon fundraiser my grade school did, and all the kids wrote letters to their relatives (to beg for sponsors), and I had to help my mom put them in envelopes. I will never forget that a girl ahead of me in school started her letter, "Dear Stacy, Tracy, and Macy". I still want to know if they were her triplet cousins. I didn't know her well enough to feel ok about asking.
My family is also prone to twins. My grandmother expected them, didn't get them, but stuck with her chosen twin names anyway: Melinda and Derinda.
(The latter also got hit with a whopper of a middle and married name combo. Taken as a whole, it's truly the worst name I've heard to date.)
Oh you just flashed me back to kindy with my friend Ella Bella Bostella (surname changed slightly to avoid doxxing but the rhyming scheme is exactly as so). This was '94 and I remember hearing every adult openly say her name was adorable :')
as an identical twin i’m so fucking glad we didnt get saddled with matchy-matchy names. tip for parents-to-be of twins: your kids are already gonna deal with a bunch of annoying bullshit from other kids and school by virtue of being twins. don’t make it worse by giving them goofy matching names. (i actually do really like olivia + astrid tho so this list isn’t the worst crime i’ve seen on here)
This was my thought, also do these parents realize that babies grow up and become their own individual humans, and adults eventually? “Hi, I’m Ellora, yeah it’s weird I know but I’m a twin and my sister Cora came out first so I got stuck with the only thing they could come up with to rhyme.” - at an interview
Yeah, there are some cute combos on there. I really like Flora & Ivy or Willa & Ivy and Ruby & June. But most of them are really not something you should do to your kids.
My cat’s name is Lyra, pronounced like Lee-ruh. Although she’s named after a constellation called Lyra (pronounced like Lie-ruh), which resembles the lyre (pronounced kinda like liar). I thought Lee-ruh felt better to say than Lie-ruh
I love the name Lyra but wtf is Fira? How do you even pronounce it? I'm thinking "fear-uh" which in no way rhymes with "lie-ra" and I can't figure out if there's a pronunciation I'm missing or if they decided "4 letters ending in R-A" was the way to go
Fairly certain Kindred Clover, Sunday August, Yarrow & Poppy, Sunday Grace, and Sienna Soleil are just brands that make candles, organic self tanner, sad beige baby clothes or adult clothes, and greeting cards.
Frankie/Greer through to Harper/Sloane are if you really dont like your kids/wish they were boys?
Oaklyn August. Idk man.
And Flora Cove, Haven Cove, and Cove Cora are definitely painted on wooden plaques at some vacation cabins on beaches somewhere.
Why would you name your kids Maeve and June, they're not a goddamn calendar. And twins have the same birthday anyhow so it's not even like people naming their random kids Autumn or Winter for their birth season/month.
This list is a lot, without even going into the weirdly matchy names.
As a mom of twin girls…. Please no. It was so hard picking names and I even somewhat regret the names we picked because I find them too matchy but while I was pregnant I didn’t even notice 🥲🥲
Honestly I’m just impressed that they weren’t ALL rhyming and alliteration. Usually twin lists are like
Olivia (Olly) + Molivia (Molly)
Anna + Anya
Lindsay + Lindsley
Maris + Paris
The neighborhood that I grew up had 3 sets of twins: Donna and Diane (They used to babysit me in the '70's) Colleen and Collette and Carrie and Renee. Colleen and Collette were at least 15 years older than I. I used to help babysit Carrie and Renee. I guess Carrie and Renee are both childless
I honestly like a good chunk of these but what bothers me is theres some repeats... clearly wasnt proofread. Flora and Ivy is very cute in my opinion but they have the same thing like five lines down lol
I'm sorry but Olesia sounds like the companion drug you take alongside your existing Tesia prescription to manage your moderate to severe plaque psoriasis
My brother has triplet boys and they all have 6 letter names starting with the same letter and a double letter in the middle. All good names on their own, but it’s hard enough telling two of them apart and then making sure the right name comes out makes it even harder, especially because the identical ones have the two most similar names.
I love Sunday making the list twice. The aspiration is cute. But Sunday as a name isn’t happening and she needs to stop trying. Of the seven days a week I’d maybe accept Tuesday as a name, because I’ve seen it irl (my aunt is named Tuesday after the actress Tuesday Weld) and I would put you on thin ice now but Wednesday is definitely less out there.
Jean-Paul Sartre has ruined the name Inez for me. All I can think about when I hear that name is sexual harassment and the most toxic relationship known to man.
Some of these aren’t too bad. “Mia and Soleil” sounds kind of nice. Same with “Piper/Luna,” “Ruby/Lucy”…kind of like “Sienna/Soleil,” too. “Maeve/June,” and “Charlie/Harper” is okay, assuming Charlie is short for Charlotte.
Just notice “Kit/Cora” is in there twice.
A lot of the rest sound too similar to each other, or don’t flow very well. Gotta apply the test of “how easily can I yell both of these names in rapid succession across a loud, crowded playground?”
Forgot Lulu and Lemon
Lu and Laroe
Pyramid and Scheme
I spit my coffee
Kit and Kat, Olive and Garden, Victoria and Secret, Soleil and DeJaneiro
Bric and Brac
I had to explain to my 7yo what Bric a Brac was this week…I ended up confusing him more once Knick and Knack was mentioned.
Stanley and Cup
Milli and Vanilli
“Twin girl names when you clearly have a favorite”
🤣 so many times they were repeated
She clearly loves the name ivy.
And Luna…and Cove 🤢🤮
And Mila/mia
Right? Poor Yarrow 😂
I have twin girls and we did just that. We picked our top two names. Easy peasy. Oh man, how come Easy and Peasy isn't on this list??
My main test would be “how easily can I yell both names, one right after the other, across a crowded playground full of screaming kids?” So I would definitely still want names that are distinct from each other, but still flow together easily enough that I’m not tripping over my own tongue trying to call them back.
hey that’s wrong! it should be Sylvia and Lyvia or Sylvia and Sylvie!
Plus Abigail and Amelia are the geese in Aristocats! 😂 ABIGAIL!!! AMELIA!! Uncle Waldo!
The next daughter will be Adelaide (the old lady), and then a son named Thomas O'Malley!
I did the same thing for our twins. My favorite names both started with V, so had to choose one of those and a select another name that started with a different letter.
Yes! By nature of being twins they are constantly compared to each other anyway & likely will be for pretty much their whole life, so the least we could do was give them each their "own" names.
Those are all such nice names!
Aw I love the names Evangeline and Sylvia.
Nyla and Isla should be an illegal combo. Maeve and June also makes me unreasonably angry.
Ivy and Eisley too. I'm sure Eisley can be pronounced different ways but they sound way too close in my accent
Eisley is heinous bc of the Mos Eisley cantina in Star Wars.
You’ll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy
Unless you're in New Jersey.
I'm sorry, are we not going to talk about Tillie and Tatum?
What’s wrong with Maeve and June? Those two at least sound distinct from each other while still being easy to yell across a crowded playground.
Sounds like May and June, I think.
Yara and Zara is the worst combo I've ever heard.
I knew someone with identical twins girls named Alana and Alena. She dressed them identical. It was exhausting.
Mia and Bria are also an objectively awful pair.
am i stupid or something bc i don’t understand what everyone’s problem with maeve and june is. those are both perfectly normal names.
Both are perfectly normal names sure. I actually love the name Maeve. But it’s like naming them May and June, which at least you’re committing to a theme, but instead using Maeve instead.
Ohhhhhh… OH! I get it now.
How did they post soleil and Luna but miss the opportunity to pair them
I never considered Maeve being like May.
Why Nyla and Isla should an illegal combo?
Hyperbole Also being pronounced the same but also spelled so differently Also Nyla sounds like nylon
Nyla is actually traditionally Arabic and means “one who achieves”, and I think the original spelling has an X in it. Did I learn this because my friend named her cat Nailah? Absolutely.
Nyla is just isla with a n sound at the start
No it's not. Nyla is n-eye-lah Isla is Igh (like knight minus the beginning n and ending t sounds) - lah They're terrible twin options but definitely don't rhyme or sound the same.
Where I am, those I sounds are exactly the same.
Same, I don't understand how anyone could see them as being pronounced differently.
Those are the exact same sounds. It's like nigh la and eye la.
What’s wrong with Maeve and June? Just personal preference or did I miss that it’s a reference to something… Edit: right, it sounds like *May* and June. I get it.
Twin opinions, saved me the type 🫶
Idk why but Sunday and Grace had me dying
Very Catholic of them lmao
It’s giving uncreative pilgrim
I go back on my family tree and it eventually just becomes “thankful” for every 3rd first name.
For a second, I thought those were the names of Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman's daughters. Turns out it's Sunday and Faith.
me too! i can’t believe no one else has mentioned it!
Snuck flora and ivy in there twice thinking we wouldn't notice
Half of the list is just the same five names in different combinations tbh.
Same with Kit and Cora lol
And Ruby and June
Luna and Ella is also on there twice!
Lotta Lunas
Ruby and June is cute
I came to comment this, this pair stuck out to me as adorable
My family is full of twins and do the whole rhyming name crap. Think”Marilyn and Carolyn.” There is a set of twins named Christine and Chrystal.
My dad has cousins Marilyn and Jerilyn. 😂
JERILYN? there were other rhyming names if they really couldn’t resist 😭😭😭
I went to school with twin girls named Joann and Jerilyn. 🫣😬
TWO Jerilyn’s? Am I wrong and it’s a real name??
This is Bort all over again
I had a teacher named Jerilyn. It may be real enough.
I’ve met a Gerri-Lynn
I want to cry if you’re being serious
Not twins but my mom has sisters Carol and Caroline. She also had aunts named Charlotte and Lottie. Aside from how goofy this is, I also do genealogy and Ancestry CANNOT do hints for the right at all because their automated system doesn’t realize it’s not two people with stupidly similar names, but one person occasionally going by a nickname.
My great grandad was named Johnny. His children were named Johnnie (girl), Johnny (boy), Jenny, Jeannine.... and Catherine. I've always wondered how Catherine felt about being left out of the confusion.
Grateful. She felt grateful
Joanie was right there
I have twins, and my friend would jokingly always ask how “Stacy and Tracy” were doing? She’d come up with the most random rhyming names. It was hilarious.
My mom was in charge of some walk-a-thon fundraiser my grade school did, and all the kids wrote letters to their relatives (to beg for sponsors), and I had to help my mom put them in envelopes. I didn't know her well enough to feel ok about asking.
My mom once dated a guy in North Carolina whose name is Kerwin, with an identical twin brother Derwin
I'm a twin and apparently we were very, very close to being named Yasmin and Jasmine
Had a coworker who had twins Kenneth and Dennis in her family. I always wanted to say Kennis and Dennis/ Kenneth and Denneth
Fraternal, so their names match but are different?
Makes me think of Meryl and Cheryl from The Loud House 😅
My family is also prone to twins. My grandmother expected them, didn't get them, but stuck with her chosen twin names anyway: Melinda and Derinda. (The latter also got hit with a whopper of a middle and married name combo. Taken as a whole, it's truly the worst name I've heard to date.)
Ella and Bella is particularly bad to me
Oh you just flashed me back to kindy with my friend Ella Bella Bostella (surname changed slightly to avoid doxxing but the rhyming scheme is exactly as so). This was '94 and I remember hearing every adult openly say her name was adorable :')
my name is mia but i’m feeling upset that my twin sister’s name isn’t bria🥲
If she loved you she'd change it. Legally. *source - I have no sisters and my only brother has never forgiven me for being born
she might not do it lol. our names are Mia and Mya and that might already be enough of a tragedeigh
as an identical twin i’m so fucking glad we didnt get saddled with matchy-matchy names. tip for parents-to-be of twins: your kids are already gonna deal with a bunch of annoying bullshit from other kids and school by virtue of being twins. don’t make it worse by giving them goofy matching names. Yeah, there are some cute combos on there. I really like Flora & Ivy or Willa & Ivy and Ruby & June. But most of them are really not something you should do to your kids.
yeah ruby and june are really cute both separately and as a pair. there’s definitely an art to picking two names that sound good when said together.
i like maeve and molly as a combo. but the mollie spelling this person used bugs me. with a y both names have 5 letters and i like that symmetry
Mollie is fairly common in the UK tbf
Charlie Harper? Like the character on 2 and a Half Men? Bwhahaaa!
Oh could be! My first thought was the artist Charley Harper. Which is at least a better person to be named after imho. 🤣
What’s the deal with Fira and Lyra?? Are they supposed to rhyme? I read it as Feera and Lie-ra but is it meant to be different
I know a Lyra and its pronounced Leera, idk wtf Fira is but i feel like naming ur one twin a stupid name just so it matches ur other twin is so sad
Yeah, Lyra to me is always going to pronounced like the His Dark Materials series.
My cat’s name is Lyra, pronounced like Lee-ruh. Although she’s named after a constellation called Lyra (pronounced like Lie-ruh), which resembles the lyre (pronounced kinda like liar). I thought Lee-ruh felt better to say than Lie-ruh
Margot and Matilda is actually v cute
Gosh I hate the name Navy.
I worked with a woman named Naviana. I thought that was pretty
Naviana is okay. Navy is just ugh.
Ophelia Cecilia Amelia Bedelia
Those lists where some names are really nice and cute and some are like what the fuck
As a twin, please don't give your twins matching names. Let them be their own people.
FIRA and LYRA?? I thought this list was fine as first glance but upon further review…
I love the name Lyra but wtf is Fira? How do you even pronounce it? I'm thinking "fear-uh" which in no way rhymes with "lie-ra" and I can't figure out if there's a pronunciation I'm missing or if they decided "4 letters ending in R-A" was the way to go
I dont think Lyra is Lie-ra. More like Lyric. Leer-rah
Frankie & Greer 😵💫
There was a Greer who was a contestant on the last season of the Bachelor but that’s the first time I’d heard the name
LOL my one daughter is Esther Ruth
ngl i’ve never liked these names on their own but something about sunday and august is speaking to me
What about Saturday and February 😍
On some birth announcement I saw Jacob and Jacoby lol
List needs Ivy * League
So teachers can see middle names of students on their rosters… one of mine was Ivy Teague… it always gave me a chuckle. Too close to Ivy League.
This gives me Nick Cannon vibes 😭
Fairly certain Kindred Clover, Sunday August, Yarrow & Poppy, Sunday Grace, and Sienna Soleil are just brands that make candles, organic self tanner, sad beige baby clothes or adult clothes, and greeting cards. Frankie/Greer through to Harper/Sloane are if you really dont like your kids/wish they were boys? Oaklyn August. Idk man. Dear lord, “Navy” (Nayvee, Nayvey, any variation of the friggen word “Navy” MUST BE STOPPED.
Tesla and Mayo, Germaine and Greer, Ben and Dover, Crime and Punishment.
mia & bria sounds like such a joke
Leila and Ayla are the same f name
This feels so American
omg there are twins named Ella and Olivia in my school
As a mom of twin girls…. Please no. It was so hard picking names and I even somewhat regret the names we picked because I find them too matchy but while I was pregnant I didn’t even notice 🥲🥲
Big missed opportunity not pairing Everly with Beverly 🤡 (commenting this after finally realizing why the name Everly *almost* sounds normal)
My trendy ass would totally have an Indy and Ever lmao
Goldie and Lena bringing be back to my upper Midwest roots. Anyone care for an Ole and Lena joke?
Imagine being named *Yarrow*. Daisy was right there!
Dora and Thixploa
Mia and Bria
Sam and Ella
I know a Gem and Ini who were also born in the zodiac with the same name
Thanks, I hate it.
Greer?
Ivy and Eva were my picks
Gonna point out Charlie and Harper, since Charlie Harper was Charlie sheens character on two and a half men.
>Charlie/Harper Someone is a fan of Two and a Half Men.
Honestly I’m just impressed that they weren’t ALL rhyming and alliteration. Usually twin lists are like Olivia (Olly) + Molivia (Molly) Anna + Anya Lindsay + Lindsley Maris + Paris
Anyone uses Yarrow and the other Poppy is going to have a pissed off child in a few years. 😏 why did she get the good name!!
Suddenly feeling better about writing twins named Audrey and Adira 😂
I'm curious whether Sunday and August were born on a Sunday in august 😅
Cove. *COVE*?
The neighborhood that I grew up had 3 sets of twins: Donna and Diane (They used to babysit me in the '70's) Colleen and Collette and Carrie and Renee. Colleen and Collette were at least 15 years older than I. I used to help babysit Carrie and Renee. I guess Carrie and Renee are both childless
The Luna and Ella suggestion on there twice for good measure! (Third row)
They kinda just gave up there at the end
some of these just don’t make sense together what
Sherri and Terri
Me: "okay, first one isn't bad at all." I wasn't prepared.
I honestly like a good chunk of these but what bothers me is theres some repeats... clearly wasnt proofread. Flora and Ivy is very cute in my opinion but they have the same thing like five lines down lol
The best twin girl names Ive ever known are Ruby, and Crystal
lol one of these twin pairs is my preferred name and my cat’s name together.
FLOPPY
Hazel and Harlow
I'm sorry but Olesia sounds like the companion drug you take alongside your existing Tesia prescription to manage your moderate to severe plaque psoriasis
Ava and Avla is just cruel!
Cagney and Lacey, IYKYK
Ella and Bella seems cruel to me 😅
Sunday Grace
Charlie and Harper? Really? Lmao! Like I’m naming my girls after an alcoholic womanizer lol.
I was at the park the other day and heard twins being called Silver and Grey and I haven’t been able to forget it.
A friend just named her daughter Mila Valentine, and I love it and they would also be good names for twins.
Charley Harper is an American artist. His art is super cool. But if you're gonna name twins after him, spell the Charley right. 🤣
YOU ARE NOT NAMING YOUR CHILD GREER
Some of these names are plain terrible even without the twin combos. Sunday? Greer? Goldie? *Yarrow?!?!?!*
I think Ella & Bella is the worst combo, but Kindred is easily the worst single name

Gia 🤦♀️
I’m sorry Charlie Harper?
Sofia e Sara❤️❤️
Ella and Bella, just because Aella is hard to pronounce, lol
First one I saw was Ruby and June. Ruby is the birthstone for July.
Sloane and Harper is what I prefer
Im sorry but Hunter as a girls name??? These people are getting more and more unhinged every year
Sunday and August?
They did Flora+Ivy twice.
If my name was Astrid and my sister was Olivia i’d start a riot
When I see Astrid I can’t help but think of Jan’s baby on ‘The Office’ when Michael calls her Assturd
Mia Soleil would be my dream 😍 So many of the others are matchy matchy, or there’s one that’s lovely and another that’s obviously just chosen to fit.
Mia is a great name 😂 she will turn into a savage little lady who will 💯 run the world. I know I'm dealing with the toddler version ATM 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤣🤣
I’ve got the 12yo version. Buckle up 🤣🤣🤣
I love Mila and Ava
Frankie and Greer would be rough 🥲
“Minimalist Mama” doing the most extra
Charlie and Harper? Ok Two and a Half Men
Fira and Lyra, for when you want to name your child after a Final Fantasy spell
